Chapter 41 – Future Flames

"I'll set one card and end my turn," Jack concludes his turn after Liquid's annoying speech. He's certain this bum will do something about his dragon.

"It's my turn!" says Liquid as he draws. The man then reveals one card already in his hand. "I'll play Fusion Myutrias!"

His spell causes his monster M-05 to float in the air and become one with the Mist in his hand. "Merge as together, evolve your fetter! Become a monster that is so much better! Fusion Summon!"

Emerging from the shadows of fusion is a slugworm alien beast with multiple eye tentacles shining red and green lights. Its mouth attached to the main body bellows open, stomach acid dripping and melting the concrete below. "Behold, the Synthesis Myutrias!"

Synthesis: 2500/2000 (9)

"Upon Fusion Summon, my monster will destroy one card on the field. And that pesky dragon needs to go." Synthesis opens its mouth and gargles on its acidic saliva.

"Trap card open; Daemon's Golem!" Chains shoot out of his trap to wrap around Synthesis. "It banished one monster on the field until the end of the next turn so long as it has 2000 or more attack points!"

"Nice try; Synthesis' effect!" The eye tentacles shine, releasing a powerful aura around the alien monstrosity. "When you activate a card, Synthesis becomes immune to that effect until the end phase." The chains wrap around the alien, but it shakes them off. It then upchucks a powerful acid at Explodewing Dragon. The dragon roars as it slowly melts from the top to its toes.

"Damn it," Jack curses as he watches his monster disappear.

"Synthesis, direct attack!" The slimy monster moves in with its tail ready to pulverize Jack into dust. Jack runs back to avoid a direct blow, but the shockwave of the tail sends him sprawling across the road.

Jack: 1500

"I'll set this card face down and end my turn." Jack groans as he forces himself to stand. He rubs his right arm feeling it take the brunt of the roll. "How's that, Jack Atlas?"

"Shut up."

"That's evolution, buster. The weak get left behind as the real species move on. Those who can't pick up the pace deserve to be…"

Ignoring him, Jack dusts his clothing before glaring at the bastard. "You talk too much for a loser."

"Loser!?" That strikes a nerve, causing Liquid to grip his hand tightly and even bend his cards. "Don't talk like you know about me!"

"I can tell just from listening to you; you just hate society, and now that you got a weapon you're using it on anyone who has ever wronged you. I've seen it before and walked away from it. Now I'm going to put an end to it before it's too late."

"Screw you, you crum bum! Not everyone can be lucky and get to be king!"

"So, that's what this is all about." Jack draws his card. "I summon Vice Dragon!"

His next monster is a familiar demonic sight, a purple dragon with ugly yellow claws. Its power is cut in half due to its effect. Jack then reveals a green card. "Next, I play the Magic Card Synchro Rumble!"

From the graveyard, Flare Resonator returns to the field. "This card allows me to revive a Tuner monster."

"Wait… level 3 and level 5…" Once the math adds up, Liquid realizes what Jack is trying to do.

"I'm tuning my Flare Resonator with my Vice Dragon!" His fire demon tunes the fork, allowing it to pass through the dragon. "The ruler's heartbeat can be heard right here! Bear witness to its earth-shattering power – Synchro Summon!"

Rising from a mirage of blaze, the black dragon returns after cleaning up machines. "My very soul – Red Daemon's Dragon!"

Red Daemon's: 3300/2000 (8)

"Battle! Red Daemon's Dragon, attack Myutant Synthesis!" His dragon roars as crimson flames form around its fist. It smashes a punch upon Synthesis, squishing and squeezing it like a tube of toothpaste before charring the rest.

Liquid: 2900

"Upon destruction, Synthesis allows me to return Super Colony to my hand." He pulls the trap from earlier to his hand.

Thinking of what to do next, Jack pulls one card from his hand. "I play Pot of the Crimson Devil Dragon. This allows me to draw two cards." He pulls two cards before setting both.

Liquid snickers as he makes his draw. "Trap card open; Myutrias' Birth Cry!"

Synthesis, Beast, and Mist appear on his field. "By shuffling these three cards in my graveyard and banishment, I can Fusion Summon the Ultimate Myutrias!"

"Ultimate?!" Jack watches as his three monsters enter his deck.

From the sea rises several black tentacles slamming into the road. Each one is the size of a train and damages the concrete. As each one opens to reveal violet eyes glaring upon Jack, the rest of the body emerges to reveal a more monstrous version of Synthesis. Its legs grip the road as it roars, the yellow mouth as large as the devil dragon.

Ultimus: 3500/3000 (10)

"The Ultimate Lifeform will wipe you and your dragon from history. Attack Red Daemon's Dragon!" The alien monster snarls before raising its tentacles.

"I can't let this monster destroy the bridge. Daemon's Chain activate!" More chains shoot out to wrap around the alien lifeform. But the metal itself erodes in its presence.

"The Ultimate Lifeform will negate that card and banish it by removing my Super Colony from play." Liquid shows the card he added, allowing Ultimus to banish the chains. "You're dead, Jack Atlas!"

"Don't think I only had one in sight! Shockwave, activate!" His second trap opens up, and the dragon's body slowly gains cracks.

"W-what are you doing?"

"My trap card will destroy Red Daemon's Dragon, and both of us will take damage equal to its attack points!" Flames leak out from the cracks. "And since I'm the one doing the blasting, no real damage will be made!"

The dragon shatters, releasing an explosion that consumes the field and everyone's vision.

Jack: 0000

Liquid: 0000

"You bastard! That changes nothing!" shouts Liquid shielding his eyes from the smoke.

From the smoke, Jack bursts through rushing at Liquid. He plows Liquid into the ground with a lariat, his head bouncing against the ground in a clear concussion clobber.

Out like a light, his Duel Disk deactivates and his monster disappears. Jack removes the device and tosses it into the sea. "There's more than one way to win…"

Elsewhere…

"The first turn will go to you. Try not to disappoint."

"So arrogant. You must have been trapped in prison for too long." Sherry draws for her turn. 'I'll burn him to ashes.' "I summon the Infernoble Knight – Turpin."

Coming forth is a dual-wielding knight holding a sword and a spear. His vibrant white and black clothes with fiery red highlights show a Chinese theme.

Turpin: 1400/1700 (4)

"Next, I will equip it with the Flame Holy Sword – Durendal." Turpin sheathes his sword before gripping the mighty red broadsword. "Upon equipment, I can add one level 5 or lower FIRE monster to my hand." He pulls from her deck the Infernoble Knight Olivier. "And, by sending Durendal to the grave I can special summon Olivier as a level 1 monster!"

Durendal shatters to pieces, reforging itself into a human form. That person steps forward as Olivier.

Olivier: 1000/1500 (1) Tuner

"Next, I shall tune my two monsters together!" Olivier turns into a single ring, passing through Turpin. "O maiden of the holy swords, bring victory to your beloved prominence. Synchro Summon!"

Emerging from the light is a beautiful woman with dark purple hair adorned in a lovely peach dress. "The Princess of Holy Swords, Angelica."

Angelica: 1200/2400 (5)

"Angelica's effect; I can add the Horn of Olifant to my hand." She searches out a trap card, revealing it to Divine. "Next, I will set two cards and end my turn."

"So predictable; I'll draw!" Divine says before he begins his turn, looking at his card. As the duel proceeds, people nearby listen and gather to watch the duel. "I will normal summon Psychic Wheeleder." A machine-like monster attached to the inside of a gyro wheel appears, rolling onto the field in front of Divine.

Wheeleder: 600/0 (3) Tuner

"A tuner monster…" Sherry realizes what he's up to next; a Synchro summon.

"Next, since I control a level 3 monster, I can special summon this monster. Come forth, Psychic Tracker!" This time, a similar machine appears. It wields a yo-yo weapon instead.

Tracker: 1600/600 (3)

"I will next tune my two monsters together!" Wheelder revs its engine with a squeal, before turning into three green rings. They pass by Tracker, turning it into stars. "Synchro Summon!"

From the light of Synchro appears Divine's monster, an evolved form of the two monsters. This white android has two longer arms, red eyes, and a bicycle for legs. It looks like Placido after his transformation. "Ride on, Hyper Psychic Riser!"

Riser: 2000/600 (6)

"Psychic Wheeleder and Psychic Tracker's effect. Hyper Psychic Riser's attack power increases by 600. And, your little monster weaker than him is destroyed." As the riser's strength increases, it shoots out its front wheel as a buzzsaw toward Angelica.

"No, you won't. Angelica's effect!" The minute Sherry makes that command, she pulls a card from her deck and slides it into the graveyard. Then, the holy sword princess vanishes into the void, avoiding the saw that carved the ground before her. Seeing the ground receiving actual damage spooks the onlookers.

"I'll banish her from the field and special summon a Roland monster from my extra deck; come out, Captain Roland!" Coming to the field now is the red and black armored swordsman of the Flame Holy Knights, Captain Roland.

Captain Roland: 2000/500 (5) Tuner

"That's the best you can do? Riser will rip that to shreds!"

"And you won't! Horn of Olifant!" The trap opens up, and Roland grabs the horn to blow it. Its music resounds throughout the field as he shatters. "I will destroy Roland to bring forth FIRE Warrior monsters whose levels equal nine."

The Warrior Lady of Revenge Rose, the Infernoble Knight Ogier, and the Brave Beauty of Ruby Regard – Bradamante appear onto the field.

Bradamante: 500/200 (1) Tuner

Rose: 1600/1000 (4) Tuner

Ogier: 1500/2000 (4)

"You must not think much of me to think I'd fall for this," says Divine while staring at her field where Bradamante is ready to fight. "The only monster on your field in attack position and it's the one with an effect that will turn on me."

Riser turns eyes to Rose. "I'll take that one out." The Synchro monster rides forward, slicing through the warrior of revenge. "Now you cannot summon Emperor Charles when Angelica returns."

"So you knew of that…"

"I'll next set two cards and end my turn." As he concludes his turn, Sherry watches as her princess returns to the field.

Sherry looks into her graveyard, remembering the monster she sent as cost. After drawing for her turn, she makes her move. "I will tune my level four Ogier with my level 1 Bradamante!"

Bradamante raises her spear proudly in the air, as if stabbing through something. The area where she does punctures opens to create a Synchro Ring, and she disappears into the void. The ring passes through Ogier, turning him into four stars. "Grand paladin of flames, ride into battle to deliver the song of victory! Synchro Summon!"

Light shoots out onto the battlefield, blinding Divine. Appearing to the field is Bradamante in her true form. Her appearance is more mature and confident, her golden hair flows behind her as a brilliant mane, causing her ornate red, gold, and white suit of armor to shine overtop the flowing, orange skirt with a predominantly pale yellow and white gradient near the bottom. Her lance has multiplied far more, being larger than herself.

"The Flame Holy Knight – Errant Bradamante!"

Infernoble Knight – Errant Bradamante: 2000/500 (5)

"Next, I activate the effect of Ricciardetto in my graveyard! By banishing it, I can special summon one Infernoble Knight from my hand as a tuner!" She reveals her familiar androgynous knight. "Come out! Astolfo!"

Astolfo appears next to Angelica, gaining the Tuner tag. "And I summon Squeaknight in attack mode." Next to Astolfo is a tiny mouse wielding a spear made of cheese.

Squeaknight: 500/500 (1) Union

"I'll tune my three monsters together!" She stretches her arms out as Astolfo turns into a single ring, passing through Squeaknight and Angelica. "Blaze through the crimson battlefield and brand victory in my name! Synchro Summon!"

From the light of Synchro, the sound of galloping resounds through the field belonging to a horse heavily armored in crimson and gold plating. Atop is a blazing knight wielding twin lances, a form of Gaia. "The Force of Blazing Sun, Gaia Blaze!"

Gaia Blaze: 2600/2100 (7)

"Nice little display, but your monsters are worthless. Riser prevents any monster weaker than itself from attacking, and no monster stronger than it can activate its effects."

"Not if I do this. Gaia Blaze, attack!" The knight on the horse charges forth, flames erupting like magma from each hoof. "Intrigue Shield, activate!"

Her trap opens up, protecting the knight. "Destroy Psychic Riser – Blazing Shaver!"

Gaia Blaze pierces through the machine monster, leaving nothing in its wake but charcoal biscuits. "Gaia Blaze can attack again whenever it destroys a monster by battle."

"It won't be able to, not when I have this." Divine's trap opens up, Michizure. He extends a hand out, causing Gaia Blaze to shatter to pierces.

'Why didn't I see that? It happened again…' Sherry turns to Bradamante. "Then, Bradamante will attack directly!"

Her female knight raises her lance and charges forward. She leaves a burning stab upon Divine, one that singes his clothes on the side she struck.

Divine: 2000

"I'll activate Ogier's effect in the grave, and equip him to Bradamante." Ogier rises from the graveyard before turning into flames, swirling around Bramandate. "Turn end."

Divine stares at Sherry. "You expected to win with that. But, you couldn't bring that future you saw to reality."

This shocks her. "What are you talking about?"

"Your powers have already awoken. You can see pieces of the future." Divine draws for his turn. "Psychic Trigger activates; I will banish Wheeleder and Riser to draw two cards."

Divine pulls his two before smirking. "Psychic Feel Zone activates – I will return the two monsters I banished to special summon one Synchro monster equal to its level."

Psionic energy sparks throughout the battlefield. This energy clusters and crystalizes into a single form; a skeletal demon monster with futuristic designs and wings. It resembles a psychic version of Skull Daemon. "Mental Over Daemon!"

Overmind Archfiend: 3300/3000 (9)

He then reveals another monster before normal summoning it. "Come out, Psycho Jumper!"

Jumper: 100/1500 (2) Tuner

'His Mental Over Daemon will probably try to destroy my monster, but Bradamante has an effect that'll stop him.'

"And now! I will tune my Mental Over Daemon with my tuner Psycho Jumper!" Jumper leaps into the air, turning into two rings of darkness. They pass over Mental Over, turning it into nine stars. A powerful wind blows by as electricity sparks across the area.

Sherry looks around, dreading what is about to arrive. "In a world of darkness, my hatred shall call upon the storm. Let my resentment burn away everything – Synchro Summon!"

From the cloud of the storms arrives a towering being that eclipses the skies.

Elsewhere…

"I summon Cyber Dragon!" Lua brings out his metallic serpent, which snarls staring at Inosume.

Cyber Dragon: 2100/1000 (5)

"Next, I activate Cyclone. This card will destroy my Field Magic!" The map is swept away into the powerful hurricane, leaving everything clear. "This also revives Laptopon from my grave."

Laptopon returns to the field in battle mode. "Laptopon's effect will target Cyber dragon and increase its level by 1."

Cyber Dragon: 5→6

"I'll tune my two monsters together!" Laptopon presses buttons on his keyboard again, turning into three stars. They pass through Cyber Dragon, an act that surprises Inosume. "World peace is pioneered by docking both sides together! Synchro Summon!"

Emerging from the light is the new monster of Lua's, essentially Cyber Dragon. However, this one is bigger than before, possesses twin heads, and has far more futuristic tech attached. "Come out, Cyber Dragon Zwilling!"

Cyber Dragon Zwilling: 2800/2100 (8)

"Cy… Cyber what?!" Inosume backs up in shock. A Cyber Synchro?

"If you're going to challenge me as a Cyber Style, then I'll fight you as one! Zwilling can attack more than once per turn!"

"Twice per turn," Luca corrects him.

"That too! But…" Lua pauses, staring at Inosume. Strangely, despite him having a large monster. 'All I know about Jinzo is that it negates traps. Maybe if I attack that Bouncer card something bad'll happen. So, I'll outsmart him.' "Cyber Zwilling, attack Jinzo!"

As the dragon opens its mouth to charge light energy, Inosume laughs. "Gotcha, kiddo! Psycho Bounder's effect!"

The mirror monster flies in front of Jinzo. "When another monster I control is attacked, I can destroy that attacking monster and Bounder!"

"What?!" The dragon fires, but Bounder reflects the blast. It gets shattered into pieces, but the blast bounces back and blows up Cyber Dragon Zwilling. "No!"

"Ha! I can't believe you didn't see that coming! A true Cyber duelist would know how to handle any Psycho Style's tricks!"

Lua grits his teeth. Luckily, he has a plan. "Then, I'll activate the Quickplay Magic – Cyberload Fusion!"

He reveals his magic card, and from the grave, Zwilling rises. "I'll return Fusion materials to my deck to Fusion Summon a proper monster!"

"Wait! You can't do that! That's just one monster!"

"Cyber Dragon Zwilling is treated as Cyber Dragon on the field or graveyard, and, it's treated as two monsters if used for a Fusion Summon!"

"… oh shit."

As Zwilling is shuffled away, the dragon on screen molds itself into a different form. The eastern dragon loses some of its luster, but it ultimately remains the same. "Come out, Cyber Twin Dragon!"

Cyber Twin Dragon: 2800/2100 (8)

"And, he can attack twice too!" The dragon charges energy. "Also, I did it in the battle phase! Attack!"

The dragon fires from the left head, eradicating the android.

Inosume: 3600

"Direct attack!" The dragon fires from the right now, blasting Inosume.

Inosume: 800

"Now I can play as many traps as I want! I'll end my turn!"

Inosume angrily stares at Lua. "No! I will slaughter you for this! I'm not going to lose to another Cyber Style duelist!" He draws for his turn. "I summon the Jinzo-Ningen – Psycho Tuner!"

Appearing now is an android brain bot staring at the field.

Psycho Tuner: 800/400 (3) Tuner

"Psycho Tuner allows me to banish one card from my hand to special summon Psycho Shocker from my graveyard!" Inosume sends a card from his hand into banishment before reviving Psycho Shocker.

"How many times am I gonna see that?"

"I'll tune my level 6 Psycho Shocker with my level 3 Tuner Psycho Tuner!" His monster powers up before turning into three rings. Each one passes through the android, turning him into six stars.

From the light of Synchro is another android dressed as Psycho Shocker. But this one is more black with purple electricity sparking around him. It wears coattails flowing below it on the ground. The red lenses are cobalt. "Synchro Summon! Shatter, Jinzo-Ningen – Psycho Locker!"

Psycho Locker: 3000/2400 (9)

"Geh! A Synchro of Psycho Shocker!" Lua mutters in shock.

"Upon summon, Psycho Locker destroys all Traps on the field and banishes them. And for each one, you are dealt 900 points of damage!" Locker extends his hand as psychic energy pulses. "Psycho Break!"

The two traps on the field shatter, slamming Lua with twin shockwaves.

Lua: 500

"And as long as it remains face up, you cannot set or activate traps or their effects. Next up, battle!" Psycho Locker holds a hand as a black ball of psionic energy forms. "Destroy Cyber Twin Dragon - Cyber Energy Shock!"

It fires upon Cyber Twin Dragon, causing Lua to fly back. Luca shouts out, "Luca!"

The boy manages to recover, feeling himself want to cry.

"I'll end my turn by activating this card. Prohibition!" A continuous magic card appears behind Psycho Locker. "This magic card will prevent any player from activating any one card whose name I declare. And I will forbid Power Bond."

"Power Bond?" Lua watches as Inosume ends his turn, the image of Power Bond appearing on his magic card.

"The only way for you out of this situation is if you use Power Bond, but I won't let you. You lose, kid!"

Lua grits his teeth before drawing his card. Seeing it, his eyes widen. 'Junk Box can revive Laptopon, and I have Gadget Gamer in my hand… could I? … yes!'

"I summon Gadget Gamer!" Lua brings out a blue-screen tv before it turns into a robot with a cannon on its chest.

Gadget Gamer: 300/300 (3)

"Gadget Gamer allows me to add a level 1 Machine monster to my hand. I pick Deformer Telefon!" He reveals the orange and white phone. "And, by releasing him, I can bring out Telefon and Gadget Trailer!"

Gamer turns into a TV before showing the image of Telefon and Gadget Trailer hauling onto the field.

Telefon: 100/100 (1) Tuner

"I'll now tune my two monsters together!" Telefon passes through Gadget Trailer after turning into a ring. "World peace shall be achieved by docking courage with power! Synchro Summon!"

Appearing into the light is Lua's ace monster, Power Tool Dragon. "And now, I play Junk Box! This card allows me to revive a Deformer from my graveyard; come back, Laptopon!"

Laptopon makes its third appearance in the duel. "And, I'll increase Power Tool's level by 1!"

"2 plus 8 makes 10… what are you up to?"

"Isn't it obvious?!" Luca tells him.

"I'll be tuning Laptopon with Power Tool Dragon!" Laptopon turns into two rings, passing through Power Tool. "World peace will be achieved by docking the strength of three worlds into one! Synchro Summon!"

From the light of Synchro, three heads form. Twin wings spread across the skies as the metallic serpent is revealed. Electricity sparks across its body. "Descend into justice, Cyber Dragon Dreieck!"

Dreiek: 4000/2800 (10)

Looking up, Inosume gasps in terror. "What… what the hell is this?!"

"Dreieck allows me to draw for every material used in its summon!" Lua draws three cards. "Then, I can release Dreieck!" The dragon shines as a result.

"By releasing this monster I can Fusion Summon Cyber End Dragon from my Extra Deck with double its attack points!" The dragon's mechanical shell shatters, revealing the powerful Fusion Dragon and Lua's strongest monster.

Cyber End Dragon: 4000→8000/2800 (10)

"D-D-Double?!"

"Cyber End Dragon, attack Psycho Locker! Eternal Evolution Burst!" Cyber End Dragon fires, releasing a triple-blaze attack upon the hapless Psycho Shocker. The resulting explosion blinds everyone.

When this card is Synchro Summoned: Draw 1 card for each Synchro Material used to Summon it. If this Synchro Summoned card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict double piercing battle damage.
