When Nova next regained consciousness, her body was aching, her ribs protested each breath, her arm was immobile, and her head was NOT happy.

She could hear a loud droning, a near constant rhythm of agitation and anger.

It was her brother scolding her.

Of course he would be scolding her.

"Can you be quiet? My head feels like it's brains have been replaced with glass and I've been vigorously headbanging."

"Quiet? Quiet?! Listen here you little shit! I was about to resurrect your ass and kill you again! Do you know how worried we all were? Do you know how stupid what you did was?!"

Nova grimaced.

"Oh hush, Travis. Let the girl rest, you can ream her ass when she's better." Destiny, Nova's best friend said with a sigh, "Valie helped save the world, you know."

"And nearly killed herself doing it!" Nova heard his hands slap his thighs, and could see him pacing and frowning in her mind's eye.

Nova whined at the loud noise, arm covering her eyes from the harsh LED lights.

She heart a smack, and her brother yelped.

Destiny had smacked Travis, where she did not know, but with how high his yelp had gotten Destiny had smacked him pretty hard.

A hushed argument ensued, and Travis muttered something about grabbing a doctor.

His footsteps retreated towards the door, and silence once again prevailed in the room.

Nova wanted to sleep, sleep sounded fantastic but Destiny nudged her.

"Girl!"

Nova groaned, flapping a hand trying to get Destiny to be quiet.

Destiny smacked her good arm, making her yelp.

"You never told me you had a boyfriend!"

"What? No, I don't." Nova looked at her friend like she was insane, "DeDe, I haven't had one for a few years."

Destiny scoffed, a smug grin plastered on her face, "then who is this?"

Destiny's phone was shoved in her face, displaying a man sitting in the chair to her right.

The image was tilted, like Destiny had sneakily taken the picture.

He was very attractive.

He seemed to be dozing off in the chair.

He was familiar.

"Your boyfriend is Hawkeye?!"

Nova's gaze was dragged away from his forearms much to Nova's disappointment.

Nova stared at Destiny, confused, "Hawkeye? Who's Hawkeye?"

Destiny eyed Nova before plopping onto the side of her bed with a hum.

"So you don't know him."

"Obviously." Nova stated giving Destiny a look.

"He definitely has a thing for you." Destiny looked smug.

Nova scoffed, "no he doesn't."

"Denial is a river in Egypt." Destiny sang, "I heard gossip that he's been here for the past three days-"

Nova choked on her spit, "hold up! Three days?! I've been out for three days?"

"Technically four if you count today, plus have you seen the flowers he left?"

Nova gave her an annoyed look.

"Gee, Dee. I've been unconscious for four days. How would I have seen them?" Nova said in a deadpan tone.

Destiny turned, grabbing a vase that was out of Nova's line of sight.

It had lush red roses that were in full bloom, with baby's breath, white lilies and sprigs of eucalyptus, it had no card attached.

"Wow." Nova was surprised, handing the vase back to Destiny, her hands had shook terribly, prompting Destiny to take it from her and gently place it on the table next to several other smaller bouquets and cards.

The girls turned as the doctor came in with her brother.

"Hello, Novalie, how are you feeling?"

"Not doing too well, my head hurts and my injuries are pretty itchy."

The doctor nodded, the soft and fluid scratching of pen on paper filling the room.

"We'll give you something for the pain, it'll probably make you sleepy, but you need all the rest you can get. Your wounds are healing abnormally fast, do you know anything about that?"

Destiny and Nova gave each other a pointed look, communicating without saying a word.

"Ah, yeah, it's a side effect of certain genetics." Nova dodged the question.

The doctor paused, glancing back at the doorway before turning back to Nova, who had become considerably guarded.

He wrote something else down before nodding, "it'll take awhile to get you those pain medicine, but in the meantime we'll see what accomodations can be provided to give you the best comfort." The doctor nodded again before ducking out and talking to someone in a black jacket that had some sort of bird on it.

Nova turned her attention to Destiny, who had a wicked smile and a brush and a comb in hand.

"My, Novalie, your hair is a mess! How about we remedy that, hmm?"

Nova desperately wished she could run.

"I don't think we should be doing that-"

"Nope! We're doing it!"

Nova sent a pleading look to Travis, who ducked out like a coward!

Betrayed, Nova pouted as Destiny combed the snarls out of her hair.

The wind had tangled her hair into a matted mass which was painful to remove.

Nova brooded, waiting for the whole ordeal to be over.

Destiny was far too smug, excited to get Nova presentable for her new prospective boyfriend.

Nova knew her friend was excited to throw her to the wolves.

Somehow Destiny had dry shampoo, which she sprayed all over in her newly combed hair.

Nova was shocked that Destiny didn't have a curler or something, but all she did was braid Nova's hair so it was out of the way.

Nova continued to pout like a child, but her attention was drawn to a snicker from Destiny.

She turned her ire towards Destiny, suspicious.

"What did you do?"

"Nothing."

Nova's eyes narrowed, Destiny's voice certainly sounded like she had done something.

The nurse came in with a smile, holding the beloved painkillers.

"These'll make you drowsy," the nurse warned, injecting it into her IV.

Nova hummed eyes finally closing as she fell back asleep.
