WEEEYYY IT'S ANOTHER CHAPTER! It totally went a different way than I was intending but I thoroughly enjoyed how it came out. Please enjoy!
Nova was finally free from the hospital prison.
The doctor had cleared her as fit to leave after two more days, drugging her to the gills with painkillers and prescriptions for said painkillers.
She had adamantly refused a wheelchair and stubbornly repeated that she had two feet and she intended to use them.
The setting sun made Nova squint and take in the scene. It was a different sight compared to what the skyline looked like a week ago.
The sunset was a familiar sight, the soft hues shone onto the damaged buildings that were scattered everywhere as a result of Loki's attack.
The doctor had recommended Nova take it easy with her ribs and arm, they had mostly healed but were still quite sensitive and prone to refracture.
Nova estimated it would be another week before she would be fully healed.
Nova wobbled slightly, unaware of Destiny hovering behind her and muttering something about natural selection.
Her apartment was absolutely demolished by a Leviathan she was told, leaving her homeless, alongside a large percentage of New York.
Travis didn't live in New York, and Destiny had three other roommates she was living with, and Nova had to stay in New York for her job.
Nova sighed, then yelped when Destiny nudged her in the ribs.
She smacked her, holding back from hitting full power, even though she knew Destiny could handle it.
Destiny glared at her before pointedly looking to their left.
Nova turned and looked, spotting Natasha standing next to a car.
"Oh hey, Natasha!" Nova waved giddily, throwing herself off balance and making Destiny lunge forward to steady her dumb ass. "Why is Natasha here?" The question was directed at Destiny.
Natasha couldn't help but be reminded of a golden retriever. If a tail had been attached to Nova, it would have been wagging excitedly.
A chuckle escaped her as her gaze rested on Nova's hair, the golden shade a near perfect match for the breed's fur.
"She's our ride. And you're going to her apartment for now." Destiny rolled her eyes as she felt her stress levels rise.
"What? What happened to your car?" Nova turned on her heel, risking toppling over.
"It got destroyed in the attack, and any rentals have already been snatched up." Destiny explained.
"Oh. Okay."
Nova began hobbling towards the car, Destiny hovering like a mother hen.
"Deeā¦"
"Yes?"
"Can you please stop hovering?" Nova groaned, sliding into the car.
Destiny did not stop hovering, instead acting like a mom buckling Nova in.
Nova grumbled drowsily, sitting in a haze as Natasha and Destiny chatted outside for a moment before climbing into the car themselves.
"-Appreciate taking her in, she's a bit of a handful at times-"
"... Are you talking about me?" Miffed, Nova shifted forward in her seat, swaying a little.
"Nope!"
Nova's eyes narrowed. Destiny had said that far too quickly.
She went to grab at the seat with her good arm, missing altogether and going down while making a noise that sounded like a Chihuahua being stepped on.
The two looked back at the doped up woman behind them, entertained by the spectacle before them.
Destiny eyed Natasha, mirth bringing a twinkle to her eye, "like I told you, a handful."
Finally managing to get upright and holding onto Destiny's seat for stability, Nova striked.
Lunging forward Nova swatted Destiny's head, harder than she had intended before falling over again.
"Too hard Novalie!" Destiny yelped.
From her place horizontal on the back seat, Nova threw back her retort, "don't be such a baby!"
"I'll be a damn baby if I want to!"
Natasha had to pull over and help her up.
With a glare, Natasha made Nova freeze like a deer in headlights.
"Stay. Seated. If you fall over one more time I will tie you to the seat and handcuff you there. Are we clear?"
Destiny had filled Nova in on the Avengers, which apparently, Nova was thought to be a part of. Destiny had also filled Nova in with what she knew about Natasha. She was a spy, the best of the best.
Nova's eyes darted around as she wondered where Natasha would have handcuffs.
Or rope for that matter.
Nova opened her mouth to ask Natasha.
"Are we clear, Nova?"
Nova shut her mouth feeling pinned by Natasha's gaze.
"Yes ma'am." Nova nodded vigorously.
"Good." Was all Natasha said as she shut the door.
Nova pouted, folding her arms with a mutter about Natasha being no fun.
That earned her a stern glance from the front seat and shut Nova up.
As the car engine roared to life, Natasha steered them through the New York streets.
Nova saw the aftermath of the attack. Piles of rubble were strewn about with people picking through them for anything that could be salvaged.
The city lights began to turn on one by one, creating lights that looked like stars against the darkening sky.
Destiny decided to break the silence by pulling out her phone.
Nova tried to see who Destiny was calling without moving, recalling Natasha's threat, but couldn't. The phone rang a couple of times before someone answered.
"Hey, Adam!" Destiny greeted, a content smile on her face as she spoke to her Soulmate.
"Destiny! Is Nova okay?" Adam asked.
"She's fine, we just got out of the hospital and she's a bit loopy from the painkillers," Destiny chuckled. "Say hi, Nova!"
Nova perked up, her sulking replaced by excitement, "is that Adam? Hi Adam! Natasha has an apartment that I'm going to stay at!"
There was a pause on the other end. "Is Nova drunk? She sounds exactly how she is when she's drunk." Adam asked, confused.
Destiny burst into laughter, "It is like she's drunk!"
Offended, Nova pouted again.
Adam laughed as well, "Well, take care of her. And don't let her burn down the apartment, please."
"We'll try our best, Adam," Destiny snorted. "She's a handful."
The call ended. Nova leaned forward in an attempt to move closer to the front seat. Natasha shot her a warning look, stopping her in her tracks.
"Nova, stay put," Natasha all but commanded, her gaze firm.
"But it was Adam! I don't get to talk to Adam a lot!" Nova protested.
"Adam will survive without you. Sit back, or I'll pull over and handcuff you," Natasha threatened.
Nova immediately went quiet, the threat of the handcuffs keeping her firmly in her seat.
The car continued through the streets, Nova occasionally shooting glances Natasha's way, trying to gauge how serious Natasha was on the handcuff threat.
