ASSASSIN'S LOVE

CHAPTER SIX – THE DATE

Makoto looked at her reflection in the mirror. She had been wearing Haruka's clothes. A cream blouse with light blue jeans. Even though she and Haruka had a bump in the beginning, Haruka slowly warmed up to her. Her hair was bound above her head with a light green hairband. Haruka folded her arms against her chest while watching the younger woman get ready for her date.

"I never saw Minako go on a date before," she said.

Makoto froze in front of the mirror. She looked over her shoulder in the mirror, where Haruka was standing against the wall. Her eyes darted back to her reflection.

"Did I do the right thing?" she asked, definitely asking herself.

Haruka smiled. "And you made her happy," Haruka continued. "I've never seen her so determined to keep you since the first time she saw you."

Makoto nodded. Deep down, she felt nervous about tonight. "What if tonight, she changes her mind about me?" Makoto questioned herself again.

The taller woman walked closer. She stared at the woman in the mirror. "Just be yourself," she said.

Makoto sighed. "I don't even remember myself," she said in a weak voice. "What if she only likes me because of who I am now? Will she still like me if I go back to the person I was before?" Makoto wondered.

Haruka couldn't find the answer to those questions. For her, only Minako could answer them from Makoto.

A soft knock on the door made two women turn around. Minako was standing at the door frame. Her face looked slightly nervous. When her eyes found Makoto in the room, she felt relieved. A wide smile appeared on her face.

"Hi," she said to Makoto.

"Hi," Makoto replied. Seeing this woman made all her doubts disappear.

Minako's eyes examined her date for tonight. "You look great tonight," she complimented Makoto.

Makoto was blushing at her comment. Her eyes studied Minako's outfit for tonight. She was wearing a blue blouse with light blue jeans. Not too fancy for a date but it matched Makoto's borrowed outfit. This woman was so beautiful in Makoto's eyes. "You look great too," Makoto said.

A wide grin appeared on the blonde's face. "Ready to go, beautiful?" she asked, offering her right hand to Makoto.

Makoto nodded. She accepted the offer and walked out of the room with Minako. Both women took a jacket from behind the door.

Haruka joined Michiru in the living room. Minako looked at the two women in her living room and silently thanked them. The pair nodded. "Please come back early," Michiru said.

Minako rolled her eyes.

As Minako and Makoto left the room, Michiru pulled Haruka to sit next to her. She leaned her head closer to her lover's face. "Thank you for helping Makoto tonight," she said as she placed a small kiss on Haruka's lips.

Makoto had followed Minako to the garage next to the house. She was surprised when she saw a green motorcycle in the garage.

"Are we going to ride this?" Makoto asked in confusion. She started to examine the motorcycles in amazement. Her fingers grazed the items softly.

Minako nodded. She handed Makoto the keys.

Makoto looked at Minako with a puzzled look. "You want me to ride it?" she asked, totally confused by Minako's action.

Minako nodded without saying anything. The brunette woman stared at her date's face. At first she was hesitating, but then she took the keys from Minako's hand. She hopped on the motorcycle and started the engine. As the sound of the engine filled the garage, a wide smile crept across her face. She didn't know why, but this sound gave her excitement. Her emerald eyes found Minako's blue ones.

"Do you like it?" Minako asked.

Makoto nodded, brimming with excitement. "I love it," she said, her eyes lighting up with happiness. "It seems familiar..." Makoto lost her words as her feelings overwhelmed her. "Maybe I had one before."

The blonde woman smiled. "It's yours anyway."

Makoto stared at Minako with a frown on her face. "Why?" she asked.

Minako shrugged her shoulders. "I haven't used it for years. Haruka had helped me to check the condition of it a few days ago. And I think it seems to suit you," Minako answered. Minako's explanation didn't make sense to Makoto. Before she could protest, Minako stopped her. "We can discuss it later. Now I want to go on a date with you," Minako said with a smile.

A wide smile appeared on Makoto's face. "Hop in," she said to Minako.

"Huh?"

"I'll ride," Makoto said with confidence.

Minako blinked her eyes. "Can you?"

Makoto nodded. "I think I know how to ride a motorcycle."

"How about your leg?" Minako seemed concerned.

Makoto looked down at her right leg. "Not too bad, I guess. So far I can walk properly," Makoto winked at Minako.

The smaller woman smiled. She didn't think much as she took two helmets from the table. She handed one to Makoto, but Makoto took the one from Minako's hand and placed hers on the motorcycle. The brunette woman helped Minako wear her helmet. Minako eyed Makoto doing it like it was natural to her. Minako's eyes started to glisten with tears.

When Makoto's eyes met hers, she asked her. "Are you crying?"

Minako shook her head and immediately wiped the tears that almost fell from her eyes. "I'm just happy," Minako answered.

Makoto smiled warmly at Minako. As Minako hopped onto the motorcycle and sat behind Makoto, Makoto put on her helmet. Minako leaned closer to Makoto's back and wrapped her arms around Makoto's waist.

Minako's touch had brought a blurred flashback to Makoto. A woman wrapped her arms around her and smiled at her.

"Mako?" Minako could feel the tension in Makoto's body.

Makoto's eyes blinked several times. She wondered who the woman in her flashback was. "Are you ready?" she asked, trying to ignore the flashback she had just received.

"Yes," Minako replied.

Makoto smiled. With that, they rode the motorcycle together, leaving the house for their date night.

-

The loud knock on Minako's door. Haruka opened the door and saw Rei was standing in front of her. "I thought you have a key," Haruka asked.

"Nope. The key is with Ami and me just back from the police station," Rei said with a glare. Her eyes looked around the house behind Haruka. "Where is Minako? I had been calling her but she didn't pick up," Rei said as she entered the house.

Michiru looked at Rei. "She isn't here."

Rei looked at both women with a confused look. "Where is she going?" Rei asked. She was wondering because Minako rarely went out at night unless they were working.

Haruka looked at Michiru and then at Rei. "She went on a date," Haruka said. "Didn't she tell you?"

The raven-haired woman rolled her eyes. "Since when does she have a date? And no, she seems mad at me after our conversation yesterday," Rei said as she walked further into the house and stopped at the guest room. "Where is Makoto?"

Haruka and Michiru stared at the younger woman. "Minako and Makoto went on a date," Michiru explained.

Rei's eyes widened. "What?!"

-

Makoto and Minako walked side by side on the sidewalk heading to the restaurant that Minako had planned for their date. Minako stopped her walk and turned to face Makoto, who followed her action.

"Here we are," Minako announced with a smile on her face.

Emerald eyes read the signage above them. "Shining Moon Cuisine?" she said, questioning Minako for confirmation.

The blonde nodded. "Well, this small town doesn't have fancy restaurants like in Tokyo," Minako explained.

Makoto smiled at her tonight's date. "I don't mind at all. As long as it was with you," she said gently. "Come on then." Makoto took Minako's hand in hers and walked together into the restaurant.

Minako blushed lightly at the thought of Makoto holding her hand in public.

The restaurant owner saw Minako. "Hey, Minako. I haven't seen you for a month," the light brown-haired man spoke to her.

"Hi Motoki," Minako replied. "How are you?" she asked to start a conversation with this man.

"I'm good, thanks. Just busy with the restaurant like usual," he answered. "How about you?" he asked, his eyes examining the blonde's outfit. "You look beautiful tonight."

He was handsome in Makoto's opinion. She squeezed Minako's hand as she felt a slight jealousy towards this handsome man who seemed close to Minako.

The blonde woman noticed the tension in Makoto's hand. "Oh, Motoki. This is Makoto," she introduced the taller woman next to her to Motoki. "My date," Minako purposely added. "Makoto, this is Motoki, the owner of this restaurant," she finished.

Motoki looked down at their intertwined hands and then back at the brunette's face. "Hi, I'm Motoki," he introduced himself, still in shock.

Makoto took his offered hand and shook it lightly. "Makoto," she forced a smile to the man.

The owner turned to face Minako. "I've never seen you go on a date," he said in a frustrated tone.

"Well yeah, they are not my type," Minako answered honestly with a shrug. "I'll talk to you later, Motoki," Minako said as she pulled Makoto to walk behind her in the restaurant.

As they sat at the corner of the restaurant, they sat across from each other. Makoto looked at Minako and shook her head slightly. "So, am I your type?" she asked with a smirk on her face.

Minako raised her eyebrows. "You should be proud of yourself," Minako said.

Makoto couldn't help but smile widely at her date. Of course she felt proud to be dating this woman.

-

"She didn't tell you where she's going?" Rei asked Haruka.

Haruka shook her head. "No," she answered.

Rei groaned in frustration. "That woman..."

"So you said a man who looked suspicious was looking for Makoto?" Michiru asked.

Mamoru nodded. "He said he was looking for a woman with brown and wavy hair, tall and with green eyes. I couldn't remember any of my patients with those descriptions except Makoto," Mamoru explained. "But he said her name was Kino."

Rei's eyes snapped at the new revelation from Mamoru. "Kino?" she repeated. Her eyes widened. "Kino Makoto!"

Usagi looked at Rei in confusion. "That's Makoto's full name?" she asked.

Haruka and Michiru looked at each other. They noticed something from that name. "We need to find them now!" Haruka announced, with a nod from Michiru. The couple hurriedly walked out of the house without any further explanation.

"What's going on?" Ami asked, feeling uneasy about the current situation.

Rei held Ami's shoulders and looked into her eyes. "Ami, please stay with Mamoru and Usagi. We will explain to you once Minako and Makoto are back home, okay," she said to Ami.

Ami just nodded.

Rei turned to look at Mamoru. "Please watch them both," she said to him.

Mamoru nodded. Without wasting much time, Rei walked out of the house to join Haruka and Michiru.

Mamoru, Usagi, and Ami looked at each other, totally clueless. There must be a better explanation from them later.

-

Minako stared at the woman in front of her after they both finished their meals. When Makoto noticed Minako's eyes on her, she paused for a while. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Makoto asked, curious.

The blonde woman just smiled at her. "I still can't believe my eyes," Minako said.

Makoto's brows arched, questioning Minako's words silently as he sipped a glass of wine.

"Fate brought you into my life, and now you are sitting in front of me, on our first date," Minako continued.

Makoto tried to read Minako. There was something about this woman, keeping something from her. "I feel grateful to meet you, Minako," Makoto said as she reached up to hold Minako's hand on the table. She gave Minako's hand a soft squeeze.

Both women smiled at each other, enjoying the touch of their hands. "Do you want to go somewhere else?" Minako asked Makoto.

Makoto nodded slightly. "Sure, but I need to use the toilet first," Makoto said.

"You need me to help you?" Minako asked, concerned about Makoto's leg.

The brunette woman shook her head. "It's okay, I can walk by myself," she said before slowly standing from her seat.

"Okay," Minako said. Her eyes watched Makoto walk to the bathroom at the end of the restaurant. She saw Motoki's sister, Unazuki. She waved at her and signaled the bill to the younger woman.

While in the bathroom, Makoto had washed her hands at the sink. She heard someone enter the toilet room but didn't bother to look who it was. As she reached for the tissue next to the sink, she felt a cold metal against the back of her head. Her eyes widened when she saw a man in a black suit pointing a gun at her head in the mirror reflection.

"Hello, Kino Makoto," the blonde man smirked evilly at Makoto. "So it's true that you are still alive."

In a blink of an eye, Makoto turned around and held the man's hand with the gun. The man accidentally shot the floor. Makoto twisted his wrist with full force.

"Damn!" Jadeite groaned in pain. His gun fell to the ground, and Makoto immediately kicked it away from them. Jadeite looked at Makoto. "You!" He shouted before pushing his body against hers and making her back hit the wall.

"Argh!" Makoto was in pain.

The blonde man choked Makoto's neck with his free hand and pinched Makoto's wounded shoulder. Makoto groaned loudly and painfully. "I remember shooting you here," he said with an evil smile on his face.

Makoto used all her strength to kick him on his side and make the man lose his grip on her. Makoto kneeled on the floor, trying to breathe. Before she could regain her strength, the man kicked her in the face and made the back of her head hit the wall, breaking tiles into pieces. The hit made Makoto feel dizzy. She held the back of her head and brought her hand to her front. There was blood on her hand.

Before she could do anything, she heard the sound of a gun. Her eyes looked up to see Minako pointing a gun at the blonde man.

Jadeite's eyes widened. He looked at her stomach, which started to fill with his blood. He turned his head slightly to look at the woman who had just shot him. "Aino?" he was curious.

Minako didn't say anything. Her eyes stared at the blonde man with hatred.

"You're still alive," Jadeite laughed, but more blood was coming out from his mouth. "What a wonderful…"

Before he could finish his words, Minako pulled another trigger to kill the man.

Makoto's emerald eyes watched the blonde man fall to the floor in front of her. Her view was blurry.

"Makoto," Minako knelt next to Makoto and took the woman into her arms. "Stay with me, honey. Stay with me."

Everything became blurrier for Makoto. She heard Minako's voice fading and she couldn't fight the darkness that started filling her head.
