Chapter 2: July 16th Part 2.
To say I was annoyed by the current turn of events was an understatement.
I'd been quietly minding my own business, simply killing time by strolling around the city until Komoe-sensei got her daily fix of tormenting Touma with Make-up exams he had no hope of passing, when who should I run into but Little Miss Bug-Zapper, currently in the middle of being molested over a crepe.
Now it should be noted that, despite our friendship, I'm not as nice as Touma. Put simply, I don't feel the need to involve myself in other people's problems unless absolutely necessary, and to be brutally honest the Level-5 Electromancer wasn't in any real danger from the thirsty, pig-tailed pervert.
However, as much as I would have loved to ignore their antics and move on with my life, the memory of Touma's haggard expression popped out of nowhere and proceeded to beat the shit out of any such thoughts, leaving them to bleed out in the the mental gutter of my subconscious.
And so, priorities reconfirmed, I turned on my heel and marched towards the group of four, fully intending to give the walking Taser a piece of my mind…only to wind up with a face full of Crepes as her attempts to flee from her stalker's clearly unrequited affections led them to topple right into me.
"God Damn it! [THE WORLD]!"
The moment the words left my mouth, everything, even the dust particles in the air, froze in place as if God Himself had hit the pause button on reality, the slow ticking of a clock slowly fading into the background the only sound as I staggered away from the pair.
'I really hate kids…' I growled, using a handkerchief to wipe the crème and…anchovies(?!) (Seriously, who the hell puts Anchovies in a desert crepe?!) off my face as a tall, silver-skinned figure clad in Ivory Armor materialized at my side. Cogs adorned the back of its hands and the belt, while the upper half of its impassive face lay concealed beneath a headpiece similar to the [Red Crown of Lower Egypt], connected by cables that plugged into the twin diving cylinders on its back.
This was my [Stand], or rather, the Stand that had been bequeathed to me by [Whitesnake Ultimate] upon my 'Rebirth', having apparently added it to his 'collection' prior to the council being formed.
As far as looks went, it closely resembled the version utilized by [Diego Brando 2.0], in that it was slenderer than [DIO]'s Version, no doubt due to my slimmer physique, however, its color scheme was more in line with the latter's depiction from the original JoJo OVA's from the 1980's.
'I really need to start hitting the gym.' I mused while glaring at my, or rather, Itsuki's slender form in a nearby window. While I'd never particularly cared about my appearance, I'd grown comfortable with being big enough that most assholes thought better about messing with me unless numbers were on their side.
Now though? I couldn't walk down the street without people mistaking me for a middle-schooler. I shit you not, there were girls in my class that were not only taller than me, but jealous of my (Itsuki's rather) baby face, a fact Aogami & Tsuchimikado took great pleasure in reminding me every. Single. DAY.
Now I'm well aware that girls tend to develop (mentally and physically) faster than boys but I feel the need to point out that, at the time I moved in, Itsuki was seventeen, a whole year older than the rest of Touma's class, and had been attending an entirely more impressive school at the time.
From what I'd been able to discern by looking into his records, he'd been fairly popular in Middle-School due to his [Accuracy] ability, so much so that he'd been the only one of his peers to successfully make it into a pretty decent school, maybe not Tokiwadai good, but certainly better than Touma's.
Needless to say, much like A Certain [Lord Explosion Murder], it didn't take long before the little shit's ego took a serious hit upon learning he wasn't a Special snowflake. To make matters worse, his ability was deemed the weakest of his new peers, leading to him turning to games to escape reality.
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise hat his [Ability Score] never truly developed with me in the driver's seat, so much so that when I moved in with Touma following my escape from those assholes, my lack of knowledge regarding the curriculum forcing the school to transfer me to Touma's class to catch up.
Having to repeat school was bad enough, but do you have any idea how infuriating it is to go from a comfortable Six Foot Three and being able to buy beer without being asked for ID, to Five-Foot Fuck-all and having teenage girls ask you how you manage to maintain your complexion?
Thankfully, possessing a Stand meant I was more than capable of venting my frustrations without being caught out for it. 'Speaking of which…' I mused, reaching out to grab the crepes out of the air as [The World] finished setting the girls back on their feet 'Such a waste of my time…'
…thuuUUUUUM!
tock tick tock TICK TOCK TICKTOCKTICKTOCK-!
"Misaka-san! Shirai-san!" the little girl with flowers in her hair that had been watching from nearby yelped as she leapt to her feet, only to blink, looking just as startled as the pair from Tokiwadai at their sudden change in posture "Wait, you're okay?"
'So their names are Misaka and Shirai…' I mused, committing their faces to memory even as the former raised a few mental flags 'That's right, of Tokiwadai's two Level 5's, their Ace is an Electromancer…so this must be Misaka Mikoto.'
It was circumstances like this that had me seriously convinced that Touma's Bad Luck had to be the work of an [Enemy Stand]. I mean, come on, out of an entire city of Espers, what are the odds he'd wind up running into one of the Seven Level 5's, let alone the Rank 3 Ace of Tokiwadai, the [Railgun] herself?
'Would certainly explain why she hasn't faced retribution for picking fights with him every time they cross each other's paths' I mused, my good humor fading at the reminder of just why I felt the need to confront her. "Hey…" I called out, grimacing as the group flushed the moment they spotted my face, though at the very least Pigtails seemed just as wary of my presence.
"Don't you girls know better than to waste food?" I demanded, unable to help smirking as their smitten expressions were replaced with confusion until I held up their crepes for emphasis "And here I thought Tokiwadai had standards."
"What was that?" Pigtails, Shirai by process of elimination, demanded, her expression shifting from confusion to what could only be described as 'Bitch-Face' as she got right up in mine, earning yet another wave of self-loathing at my lack of height. "Just who do you think you're talking to?"
"A pervert that thinks she can get away with sexually harassing someone in public?" I snarked, honestly amused by her attempt at intimidation, an opinion that was apparently shared by Flower-Girl, who doubled over covering her mouth in a bid to keep from laughing aloud "I suppose I can't blame you for being trigger-happy if this is the company you keep, Little Miss Bug-Zapper."
"Don't call me that!" Misaka snapped while Shirai continued to sputter incoherently, the pigtailed stalker clearly not used to being called out for her antics, "Wait…" the Level-5 frowned, the light of recognition forming in her eyes as she pointed at me in shock "You're that guy's friend!"
"You…know this guy Onee-sama?" Shirai coughed, her earlier embarrassment replaced with wariness as she finished glaring death at Flower-Girl, who was currently being pat on the back by her long-haired classmate, judging by their uniforms "When did this happen?"
"My friend and I happened across Little Miss Bug-Zapper while she was being harassed by Skill-Outs last month." I explained, ignoring The Railgun's petulant glare at my continued use of the nickname "My friend, being the good Samaritan he is, tried to help her out and Little Miss Bug-Zapper thanked him by trying to flash fry him with lightning."
"He was asking for it!" Misaka snapped, only to avert her eyes in the face of my quirked brow and, surprisingly, Shirai's suddenly deadpan expression "O-Okay, maybe I overreacted a little...but it's not like he was even hurt! My Lightning had no effect on him!"
"What are you saying Onee-sama?" Shirai sighed, shaking her head in exasperation whilst waving a hand dismissively "There's no way someone wouldn't be hurt after being zapped by a level 5 Electromancer."
"This guy was." Mikoto insisted, surprising her friends as she looked down at her hand with a complicated expression "I don't know how but he was able to negate my lightning like it wasn't even there."
"And ever since then you've been taking every opportunity to pick a fight with him." I cut in, drawing their attention back to myself "Now my friend's no pushover and can more than take care of himself. Good thing too, since his penchant for helping others often leads to him winding up way over his head."
Seriously, just how in the name of Lucifer's Frozen Balls does someone go from rescuing a kitten from a tree to being chased down the street by a pack of cybernetic-enhanced rottweilers that just happened to escape from a lab?
"That being said," I continued, glaring at the Level 5 all the while "I wouldn't be much of a friend if I just stood back and allowed some spoiled Tokiwadai Princess to keep attacking him like he was her own personal Stress Relief Ball."
"Misaka-san would never do such a thing!" Flower-Girl exclaimed, pumping her fists insistently "I'm sure this is just some big misunderstanding, right, Misaka-san?" she insisted, only to blink at the sight of the Railgun averting her eyes while Shirai facepalmed "Misaka-san? It's not like that, right?"
"…It's not like I'm going out of my way to look for him or anything." Misaka confessed in such classical Tsundere I couldn't help but pity Touma "At first I only wanted to know how he blocked my lightning, but he'd keep saying stuff that made me lash out, only for him to negate it like it was nothing."
Okay, yeah, I could totally see that happening. Say what you like about Touma, no matter how well intentioned he might be, he suffered from a serious case of Foot-In-Mouth disease, which coupled with his bad luck typically resulted in him getting into a fight or having to run from one.
That being said, there was a big difference between getting slapped upside the head for saying something inappropriate and being hunted down like a wild animal just to satisfy curiosity, so if [The Railgun] was hoping to garner sympathy from me, she had another thing coming.
"In the end I guess it just became routine for me to challenge him every time we met." she confessed at length, sighing as she finally got it all off her (lack of) chest, as if it had been bothering her to keep it bottled up inside.
"So…you're saying he's basically your rival?" Flower-Girl's long-haired classmate proposed, earning an excited squeak from Flower Girl and alarmed yelp from Shirai, who was looking decidedly worried for some reason "Or could it be you actually like him and are just playing hard to get?"
"As if I'd ever be interested in a guy like that!" Mikoto snapped, earning a sigh of relief from Shirai and a disappointed pout from Flower Girl, who clearly weren't as fluent in Tsundere as I was "I just don't like leaving things unfinished. I'll leave him alone if he actually takes me seriously in a fight!"
"Good luck with that." I scoffed, shaking my head at her naivete "That guy might be many things, but suicidal isn't one of them." I elaborated for her benefit "He's got enough on his plate without being arrested for assaulting a Middle-schooler."
'Especially not one from Tokiwadai.' went unsaid, though it was clear from the grim expressions on the faces of Shirai, Flower Girl & her friend that they'd realized the legal ramifications such an act would incur if anyone attacked a Tokiwadai student, let alone their precious 'Ace'.
"Though I guess none of that really matters anymore." I confessed, attempting a disarming smile, though given how the four of them tensed as if I'd drawn a weapon on them, I'd apparently failed epicly "Since after today, you're going to leave my friend alone."
"Is that supposed to be a threat?" Shirai demanded, the pigtailed girl scowling as she stepped between Misaka and I, pulling on an iconic green armband alongside a suddenly nervous looking Flower Girl "As a member of [Judgement], I won't allow any form of violence!"
Judgement; Academy City's Student-Based Disciplinary Committee. A sub-division of [Anti-Skill] composed entirely of Students of varying grade levels and power, their duties included maintaining Peace and Order within the system & arresting those who threatened it, only deferring to Anti-Skill in the event of armed conflict or prisoner transfers.
'This pervert is a member of Judgment?' I marveled, torn between amusement at the clerical oversight the organization must have made when they recruited her and disgust as I realized this was likely how Little Miss Bug-Zapper managed to avoid being arrested for abuse of her powers 'Not for much longer if I can help it.'
"So, you're with Judgement?" I asked rhetorically whilst glancing between Shirai and Flower-Girl, the latter of whom was looking decidedly more worried if her reaction to my shark-like smirk was any indication "That's perfect! You can be my witnesses when I contact your main office to report that the [Rank 3 Level 5] has been harassing my [Level-0] friend for over a month now."
"T-There's no need for you to go that far!" Shirai stammered, her professional mask shattering in her desire to protect the object of her clearly unreciprocated affections, who was looking decidedly caught off-guard by my tactics "I-I'm sure Onee-I mean Misaka-san, has learnt her lesson after today!"
"Be that as it may, I'd rather be safe than sorry." I countered, not giving her grounds to refuse "Surely you're not suggesting I cover-up such a clear abuse of power? After all, what business does the [Rank 3 Level 5] have harassing a [Level-0]?"
The answer to that would be 'None'. While Academy City tended to look the other way when it came to their research, there were still laws in place to ensure some semblance of order, and [Abuse of Powers] was one of the most common offences Judgement had to deal with aside from Skill-Out attacks.
That being said, should I go ahead with my threat and report Misaka's 'unwarranted' harassment, it was far more likely Anti-Skill would be deployed to apprehend her given her Rank, and the last thing Tokiwadai needed was rumor of a scandal within their walls.
Put simply, both the Railgun and her friends knew that, if it came down to preserving their image or covering for one of their students, Tokiwadai would sell Misaka up the river the moment it looked like her actions might reflect negatively on them.
"That being said," I cut in, deciding to dangle the olive branch "I really don't wanna have to file an official report, so if you're certain you can keep her away from my friend, I'll abstain from contacting Judgement for now."
"Deal!" Shirai exclaimed, earning a betrayed look from Misaka that she ignored, clearly enthused by the prospect of keeping her 'Onee-sama' away from a suspicious Male without having to break any rules to do so "I'll stick to her like glue! She'll never leave my sight for a moment, not even in the bath-!"
"You don't need to go that far!" Mikoto snarled, gripping her friend's head and unleashing a burst of electricity, not enough to actually harm Shirai but certainly enough to get her to stop, before turning to face me "Look, I'll stop bothering him, but only if he tells me what's the deal with that hand of his."
"If he knew the answer to that, he probably wouldn't be classed as a Level-0." I shot back, earning looks of confusion from all parties "I'm serious, no matter how many times he gets checked out, he still registers as a Level-0."
"That's crap and you know it." Mikoto countered hotly, a hint of her old pride resurfacing at the very idea a Level-0 could match her power "Are you telling me his power is beyond the [Testament]'s ability to measure?"
Testaments were the devices used by Academy City to install information into a human's brain. As such, they were a vitally instrumental tool in the Power Curriculum Program, particularly in monitoring the non-visual signs of growth in one's Esper Ability.
"That or it isn't an Esper Ability at all." I confessed, referring to my suspicions that it was a Stand Ability, which while similar in nature, wouldn't register in the database. Lord only knew I'd be strapped to an operating table by now if they could.
"In any case, I've said my piece." I concluded, handing over the Crepes to the Level 5 as I spoke "I won't tell you to avoid him, since knowing his luck the odds of you bumping into each other will skyrocket the moment you both start actively avoiding one another." I glared at the Railgun "But the moment I hear you attacked him, provoked or not, you're done.
"So long as he keeps things civil, I can do the same." Mikoto countered, clearly used to being on the receiving end of threats as she matched me glare for glare, sparks emerging from her hair as she did so.
"See that you do." I instructed as I turned on my heel and left, though if I was being brutally honest, I had to admit she impressed me a little with her resolve. From what little I'd seen and heard of her, I had initially pegged The Railgun as a stereotypical Rich Girl who happened to luck into a level 5 Ability.
Now however, it was clear to me she'd worked hard to get where she was today, so I supposed I could understand why she'd feel threatened by Touma's ability. Make no mistake, I fully intended to report her if she kept harassing him, I'd even list Shirai and Flower-girl as witnesses, but at the very least I left with a better opinion of her than I'd had going in.
'Hope Joseph's isn't too packed…' I mused, deciding to get something to eat before heading back to the dorm, only for such thoughts to be interrupted courtesy of a sudden explosion "The Hell-?!"
With Misaka & Co...
"Well…that was something…" Saten mused as the blonde left, the Level 0 torn between feeling shocked at the confrontation, amusement at Kuroko being called out on her weird proclivities, and irritation that some of her initial beliefs about Misaka Mikoto had been proven somewhat true.
Oh, make no mistake, it was nice to learn that The Railgun of Tokiwadai was basically just an ordinary girl like her, complete with her own unique flaws and tastes, including being clearly in denial about being attracted to whoever Blondie's friend was.
However, as amusing as it was to see a real-life Tsundere in the flesh, the fact the Level-5 had essentially gotten away with harassing the guy for over a month didn't sit well with Saten, especially since it was a fellow Level-0 who was caught in The Railgun's cross-hairs.
'Though I'll give her one thing, at least she wasn't using Shirai-san to cover it up.' Saten conceded, as it was clear from the pigtailed Teleporter's reactions that she'd only just learned of these events today, so at the very least Misaka-san wasn't the kind to abuse her friendships to cover her tracks.
"Something wrong Uiharu?" she asked her classmate, having noticed the troubled look on the Flower Girl's face as she watched the blonde boy leave "Oh, I get it, you're worried you'll have to testify against Misaka if this guy follows through, right?"
"What? No!" Uiharu stammered, waving her hand in surprise as Mikoto and Kuroko turned to face her, the latter sending her warning glares "I mean, don't get me wrong, if he does file a report I'm obligated to do so," she winced at the betrayed glare Shirai sent her "sorry Misaka-san."
"It's alright." Mikoto assured her with a self-depreciating smile even as she judo-chopped Kuroko to get her to stop glaring at her junior "If anything I'd be disappointed if you didn't. Judgement Agents can't play favorites, and I kinda brought this on myself after all."
"I'm sure that boy is partially to blame for the situation, Onee-sama." Kuroko insisted, refusing to accept that her precious 'onee-sama' was entirely responsible for this situation "You said yourself that he kept saying things to incite you. Perhaps he did so on purpose so they could build a case against you-?"
"I sincerely doubt it." Mikoto cut her off with a dismissive wave of her hand "He's just a bonehead who has a penchant for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. To be brutally honest, I don't think he could effectively lie to save his life."
'Oh yeah, she's got it bad.' Saten mused as she took in Kuroko's troubled expression and Uiharu's flush, a catlike grin forming on the Level-0's face as she imagined all the fun she could have with this 'The Rank 3 Level-5 crushing on a Level-0 upper-classman? This is the kind of gossip novels are based on!'
'Though, does he really count as a Level-0 if he has the power to negate electricity?' she mused, reaching up to hold her chin as her free hand clasped her elbow 'For that matter, does it only work on electricity? Or does it affect all Esper Powers?'
"In any case, do you see now why I'm always telling you to be more careful, Onee-sama?" Kuroko demanded, affecting a lecturing tone as she dressed the level 5 down "We're lucky he was content to let us off with a warning, but the next person you use your powers on might not be so considerate!"
"I get it alright?" Mikoto sighed, rubbing her head in irritation, only to blink, her eyes narrowing as she turned her head to the side, gazing up and down the numerous shops that lined the street "Somethings wrong…someone just triggered a silent alarm."
'She must've picked up the electrical signal from the alarm.' Saten deduced, honestly impressed by the ability even as Uiharu and Kuroko instantly turned serious, the Teleporter pulling out several spikes while the former pulled out a portable PDA, no doubt to contact Anti-Skill "Where's it coming from?"
Her answer came in the form of the armored shutters of a nearby bank exploding outwards, the cries of the crowd all but drowned out as Alarms went off, smoke and flames pouring out of the entrance.
"Uiharu, I want you to contact Anti-Skill and request they send officers to our location immediately!" Kuroko instructed as she leapt over the bench to land in the street "After that, I want you to direct the crowd and search for casualties, try to keep them clear until Anti-Skill arrive!"
"Wait up, Kuroko!" Mikoto called out, the Level 5 stepping past a flustered Uiharu, clearly intending to help out, only to be halted in her tracks courtesy of the teleporter's outstretched palm "Wha-?"
"Stay right where you are, Onee-sama." Kuroko commanded, her expression brooking no argument as she matched glares with the level 5 "Didn't you hear what I said earlier? Even if it's to help out, you can't just go around abusing your powers like that." She smiled "Besides, maintaining the security of Academy City is Judgement's job…so please don't give me a reason to arrest you, okay?"
'Well shit,' Saten mused, unable to help feeling impressed, not only with Kuroko's professional demeanor, but also in how readily Misaka was willing to listen to the Teleporter, especially considering her obvious discomfort to her earlier antics 'guess it's true, you really can't judge a book by its cover.'
"Looks like it's three on one." The blonde from earlier noted, startling Saten, who hadn't heard him return, the girls looking up just in time to see three men in leather jackets, their faces obscured by bandannas, come stumbling out of the bank carrying duffel bags "You sure pigtails can handle herself?"
"Kuroko's got this." Misaka insisted, crossing her arms confidently as her friend confronted the trio, who clearly didn't share her faith given how their dumbstruck expressions quickly devolved to mocking laughter, the largest of them rushing the girl in a bid to take her hostage. Needless to say, it didn't end well. "So what're you doing here? I thought you had things to do?"
"Your little friend called in for back-up and they aren't letting anyone leave the square." Blondie revealed, thumbing over his shoulder at Uiharu and several Judgement Agents as they tried to guide people away from the street whilst urging them to avoid wandering off "Such a pain…this is what I get for sticking my nose in."
"Hey, you were just looking out for your friend, right?" Saten urged, smiling reassuringly "I mean, you could've probably gone without blackmailing Misaka-san, but at least you didn't try to shake her down."
"Damn, why the hell didn't I think of that?" the blonde stage-whispered, though it was clear from his smirk he wasn't being entirely serious, earning a knowing grin from Saten and a scoff from Mikoto herself "So, how do you fit into all of this? You in Judgement too?"
"Nah, they'd never recruit a Level-0 like me." Saten scoffed self-mockingly, earning a quirked brow from the blonde "I'm Uiharu's Classmate, Saten Ruiko." She held out her hand "What about you, kiddo? You got a name? Or should I just call you Blondie?"
"You're rather forward, aren't you?" he mused, brow twitching irritably "Didn't your mother teach you how to respect your elders? Or did you forget due to hanging around Little Miss Bug-Zapper for so long?"
"For your information I only met Saten-san today!" Misaka snapped back, clearly displeased with the nickname despite living up to it courtesy of the bolts of electricity she was subconsciously letting off from her hair "And who are you calling 'elder'? You can't be that much older than us!"
"I'm Seventeen." The blonde deadpanned, sighing in exasperation at their dumbstruck expressions as he ran his hand through his hair, having clearly grown used to such reactions from people "As for your question, Saten-san was it? Call me Itsuki."
"Y-Yeah, sure." Saten acknowledged, unable to help marveling at ho young the upper-classman looked, only to blink as the sound of a distressed Uiharu drew their attention to the Flower-Girl struggling with a local Tour-Guide "What's going on Uiharu?"
"We're missing one of the boys that was on the tour!" The Guide explained as she wrenched her arm from Uiharu's grip "He went to reclaim something he left on the bus as few seconds ago and no-one's seen hide nor hair of him since!"
"We're on it." Misaka declared confidently as she turned to her friends "The four of us will split up and search the area around the bus. He can't have gone too far, so just call out if you spot him."
"Hope you're not counting me in that number." Itsuki cut in, earning a look of confusion from the assembled ladies "I never signed up to be deputized into Judgement. Especially not to rescue some dumb kid who should know better than to wander off in a strange city."
"You're just going to sit back and do nothing?" Mikoto demanded, the Level-5 clearly not sharing the blonde's opinion on the matter "You're saying you don't care if he gets hurt when you could have done something to stop it?"
"I'm not the one responsible for his safety." Itsuki reminded her, earning a flinch from the Tour Guide, who averted her gaze in shame "Maybe next time the Kid will think twice about wandering off in future."
For a moment, it looked like Misaka was about to let rip with her lightning right then and there. However, much to Saten's shock, the Level-5 took a deep breath and glared at the blonde like he was something she'd stepped in "I don't know how the hell that guy can be friends with you."
"I ask myself the same thing every day." Itsuki confessed, the blonde shrugging offhandedly as he made his way over to a nearby bench while Saten and Uiharu convened with Misaka to locate the little boy.
'Where could he be?' Saten wondered, the Level-0 opting searching under the bushes in case the boy was hiding in them while Misaka searched the bus. Out the corner of her eye, she caught snippets of Kuroko confronting the robbers, looking on in wonderment as the Teleporter sent a man twice her height (and likely ten times her weight) flying ass over tits with relative ease.
Needless to say, fatass' friends didn't appreciate her manhandling their pal, one of them even going so far as to reveal himself as a Pyrokinetic to take her down, only to wind up kicked in the face and nailed to the street in relatively short order.
'Give her credit where it's due, girl's got moves.' The Level-0 conceded, mentally applauding her efficiency, only to blink as a child's cry of distress sounded behind her 'Wait, is that the boy…' she wondered, only to pale at the sight of him being grabbed by a masked man in a leather jacket 'oh no!'
"C'mon Kid!" the man, clearly one of the robbers, sneered as he dragged the struggling boy by his wrist, the bandanna adorning his face doing little to hide the desperate, almost feral glint in his eyes "You're comin' with me! Move it!"
'I have to do something!' Saten exclaimed, glancing desperately between the bus Misaka and Uiharu were gathered at and a preening Kuroko, who was in the middle of lecturing the Pyrokinetic she'd pinned to the floor with her needles.
'They're too far…' Saten realized, pushing herself to her feet and breaking into a dead sprint in a desperate bid to reach the pair before they reached what was likely the thieves' getaway car 'I have to stop him from getting away! Even I should be able to do that much-!'
"Let him go-!" she cried out, all but tackling the clearly distressed child and wrapping her arms around him in a desperate bid to hold on as the furious thief tried to shake her off "Misaka-san! Shirai-san! Over here-!"
"Get off you bitch!" the thug snarled, his features desperate as he finally realized everyone was looking their way "Damn it! You want him? Take him!" he snarled, letting go of the child before proceeding to deliver a kick at Saten's stunned face.
'This is going to hurt…' Saten grimaced, the Level-0 bracing herself for an impact as she held the child close, hoping to shield him from the impact-
"[THE WORLD!]"
THUUUUuuumm…!
TICKTOCKTICKTOCK TICK TOCK tick tock tick…
In the World of Froze Time...
"Give me a break." I grumbled as time once again ground to a halt around me, tenderly massaging the vein pulsing above my brow in a futile attempt to stave off my mounting irritation "I'm starting to understand why Touma's so exhausted all the time."
Make no mistake, while I admired Touma's desire to help his fellow man, it just wasn't in my nature to do the same, especially when there really isn't anything in it for me. It was for that reason I hadn't volunteered to help cover the Tour Guide's ass by looking for the missing kid, since it was highly unlikely he'd gotten very far in the scant seconds between her losing sight of him and the bank explosion.
However, there is a big difference between letting a dumb kid learn a lesson in not wandering off in a strange city and standing back and allowing some scumbag to take the kid hostage. Especially if said scumbag was that special kind of trash that had no problems kicking a girl in the face.
"Let's see how you like it." I mused, wrapping a supportive arm around Saten's shoulder as [The World] delivered a punishing kick to the thug's knee, effectively shattering the joint, causing his lower leg to bend in the wrong direction before delivering a spin-kick to his chest "Time Resumes."
…thuuUUUUUM!
tock tick tock TICK TOCK TICKTOCKTICKTOCK!
The thug shrieked as he spiraled through the air, blood trailing from his lips and shattered knee until he slammed ass-first through the rear-window of his would-be getaway car, practically folding in half in order to fit inside.
"That's one way to bum a ride I guess." I quipped, looking on with satisfaction as several beefy looking Judgement Officers rushed the vehicle like before turning to check on the pair in my arms "You two okay?"
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine." Saten stammered, the Level-0 blinking up at me in surprise as i set her back on her feet before checking on the boy in her arms, who was tearing up in relief now that the danger was over "Ssh, it's okay, the scary man is gone, see?"
"You could have gotten seriously hurt, you do know that, right?" I reminded her, only to sigh as she simply shrugged the matter off "Seriously, why the hell do I keep befriending suicidal Level-Zeroes?"
"Maybe you just have good taste?" Saten teased, the knowing look in her eyes forcing me to avert my own as her friends raced over to check on her and the boy.
Just to Clarify, The World depicted her is physically identical to the one used by The Alternate Diego Brando from the end of Steel Ball Run, however, it's color scheme is based on the version from the original Stardust Crusaders OVA (The one AntFish used for his abridged series).
My reason being that it wouldn't make sense for the Stand to be so buff considering how much of a shrimp Itsuki is.
Speaking of which, Itsuki's presence has already begun changing the World of Academy City. Care to predict what other changes he'll bring?
Again, mostly wrote this is a test to break through my writer's block. don't expct regular updates.
