Story Summary: This MLP retelling of Sleeping Beauty focuses on the Pony fairy that didn't get her invitation and stubbornly refuses to listen to Twilie the Royal Page(Twilight Sparkle)'s reason. Hurt and angry, Luna the Thirteenth Pony Fairy (Princess Luna) impulsively gives her terrible gift to Princess Somnambula Rose (Somnambula). The curse was that on Princess Somnambula's special day, which was her Sixteenth Birthday, she'll prick her hoof upon a thorn of a brambleberry and vanish forever. Sweetie Shimmerings (Sweetie Belle), the youngest of The Five Pony Fairies, changed Luna's evil wish by replacing vanish with sleep. After Princess Sonambula Rose got her hoof pricked by a brambleberry bush and fell asleep, Sweetie Shimmerings and the other Four Pony Fairies, Starlight Sparkle (Starlight Glimmer), Cherry Jubilee, Pinkamena Pie (Pinkie Pie) and Sapphire Shores, picked her up and gently placed her on the bed. Sweetie Shimmerings called Princess Somnambula, "Sleeping Somnambula". The Five Pony Fairies put Prince Rockhoof (Rockhoof)'s whole kingdom into a dreamy sleep until they can find a way to awaken the Princess. Lonely Luna secretly watches The Pony Fairies meet daily to try to reverse her gift, but not until the brave and young Squire Pipsqueak (Pipsqueak) gives her a lesson in listening, does she finally decide to reverse her terrible gift. In doing so, Luna not only just reawakens Princess Somnambula Rose and the whole kingdom, but learns to be a good friend.
Once upon a time, a young mare named Princess Somnambula Rose was born in Prince Rockhoof's kingdom. Prince Rockhoof was very happy to have a new sibling, so without any time, he wrote some invitations of a grand gala in mark of the birth of the Princess. Soon, everypony was invited, including The Five Pony Fairies.
The grand gala had finally arrived and everypony was having a lot of fun. There was dancing, music and treats. The Five Pony Fairies has very special gifts for the young mare. The first Pony Fairy, Starlight Sparkle; who was a unicorn and has pale, light grayish heliotrope coat, moderate purple mane and tail with lighter purple and pale light, grayish aquamarine highlights and moderate light purple wings with dark turquoise designs, walked over to the young pegasi and said,
"I'll give The Gift of Wisdom, my darling mare. Be the wisest ruler in all the world!"
Starlight Sparkle then tapped her wand onto the cradle with a shower of navy purple and light teal dust.
The second Pony Fairy, Cherry Jubilee; who was an earth pony and has very pale yellow coat, two different shades of moderate crimson mane and tail and red wings with scarlet designs, walked to baby Princess Somnambula Rose and said,
"You will become our ruler when you become our queen. Not just of ponies, but nature's creatures and all things green! I'll give you The Gift of Nature, my darling mare!"
She then drew a special flower with her wand.
The third Pony Fairy, Pinkamena Pie; a pale, light grayish raspberry earth pony with pale, light grayish raspberry mane and tail and pink wings, walked to the young pegasi and said,
"And now, for always ever after, my gift would be The Gift of Happy Laughter!"
Pinkamena Pie then sprinkled pink sparkles on baby Princess Somnambula Rose with her wand.
And finally, The fourth Pony Fairy, Sapphire Shores; a pale, light grayish gold earth pony with light brilliant cobalt blue mane and tail with light brilliant azure stripes and light blue wings, walked to baby Princess Somnambula Rose and said,
"The Gift of True Friendship is my gift to you. You will be patient, forgiving and a good listener, too!"
Sapphire Shores then waved her wand and swirls of navy blue dust flew around over baby Princess Somnambula Rose.
After she gives the Princess her gift, Sapphire Shores turns to the youngest of The Five Pony Fairies, Sweetie Shimmerings; a white unicorn with light purple mane and tail with light pink stripes and light purple wings. "Alright, Sweetie Shimmerings," said Sapphire. "Now, it's time for you to give Princess Somnambula Rose your special gift." Sweetie was happy to hear Sapphire's words, but she was still thinking about what kind of gift she would give. "Aw, come on! It will be fine!" Pinkamena said. Sweetie then walked to baby Princess Somnambula Rose. "Well, my young mare," Sweetie said. "I think my gift to you will be The Gift of…" But before Sweetie could give the young mare her special gift, thunder and lightning spread across the village of Ponyville!
The loud and booming thunder scared the poor baby Princess Somnambula Rose. Sweetie soon confronted the young pegasi and patted her on the back. "Little princess," Sweetie said. "It's only just the thunder. It will go away." But a voice interrupted Sweetie!
"Oh no, it won't!"
Everypony all became shocked by what they just saw. The thunder clouds soon faded away and The Five Pony Fairies knew that one of The Pony Fairies heard about the celebration. No, there isn't a sixth Pony Fairy, but a Thirteenth Pony Fairy with moderate cyan eyes. Everypony knew who that Thirteenth Pony Fairy was. "It's….it's….Luna!" Sapphire said in shock. "It's you!" "That's right, me!" Luna said as she appeared from the storm cloud. "Remember me?" "Why, hello, Luna." said Starlight. "Why wasn't I invited?!" Luna shouted in her dramatic, echoing voice. The loud voice made baby Princess Somnambula Rose cry.
"Psst!" whispered Sapphire. "You're scaring the princess!" Luna soon noticed young Princess Somnambula Rose and approached her. "Well, hello little darling princess." said Luna in her nicer tone. Baby Princess Somnambula Rose stopped crying and soon noticed Luna. Prince Rockhoof, who was fearfully hiding behind the baby Princess' crib, walked to Luna and said,
"It…it must…it must be a very terrible mistake, Luna! I saw you on the guest list and you're on it!"
"I know what terrible mistakes you are having!" interrupted Luna as she stopped Prince Rockhoof's speeches. "You are the unlucky number here! Besides, you even give those Five Pony Fairies their invitations. Why didn't I?!" Suddenly, Twilie, the Royal Page, came down the stairs with the guest list. She showed Luna the guest list and of course, she was on it. Luna did not care and zaps Twilie's guest list into ashes. "So, why didn't I get an invitation?" Luna asked as she glared at Twilie. "Uh…I…I…I tried." Twilie stammered. "You didn't try hard enough, did you?" asked Luna.
Well, of course, Twilie did try to deliver the invitation. She told Luna about how hard she tried, but Luna did not wanna listen. Way before the grand gala, Twilie tried to deliver the invitation, but couldn't because Luna lived in a castle; in the Everfree Forest, surrounded by brambleberry bushes. Soon, Twilie's hooves got pricked on a thorn of a brambleberry. "Darn brambleberry thorns!" Twilie said. "Hello, Luna the Thirteenth Pony Fairy, hello! Are you there?" However, Luna gave no answer. Twilie has finally given up and soon, she puts the invitation onto the brambleberry bush. Twilie then left the Everfree Forest.
"I didn't get one because you didn't leave one!" Luna scolded. "No, I did leave the invitation!" argued Twilie. "I did!" "Did you see that?" Prince Rockhoof asked. "Twilie's got the point." "She doesn't mean to hurt your feelings." Sapphire said. "Since you're here now," said Pinkamena. "Why not just forget about it and just join the party?" "I'm not listening, I'm not listening!" cried Luna as she covered her ears. She moved out of the way and approached baby Princess Somnambula Rose. Luna soon glared at the princess. "Since I'm here," said Luna. "I'm going to give Princess Somnambula Rose my gift." But instead of a gift, Luna put a curse on the poor Princess. "Well, Princess Somnambula," Luna said as she released dark blue mist. "Such a pretty mare like you who is sweet, kind and clever, on your special day, which was your Sixteenth Birthday, you will prick your hoof upon a thorn of a brambleberry and you will vanish forever!"
Everypony soon became shocked. "What a terrible gift!" Prince Rockhoof said. "Go away!" "Fine, I'll go," said Luna. "But I'm not taking it back!" And she disappeared. Everypony became very worried and worried about Princess Somnambula Rose's future. "What can we do?" Pinkamena asked in a worried tone. "You poor, young mare." Starlight said. "We have no more spells!" Sapphire said. "Well, at least, I still have mine." Sweetie said. With a pair of her cute light purple wings, Sweetie walked to baby Princess Somnambula Rose and said,
"I cannot undo Luna's evil wish, but I can change it. Princess Somnambula Rose, you will not vanish when you prick your hoof upon a thorn of brambleberry. Instead you will fall into a deep sleep for a hundred days."
Sweetie waved her wand, sprinkling white sparkles onto the young pegasi. Everypony sighed in relief. Princess Somnambula Rose will be happy when she grows up. Prince Rockhoof made an announcement that day. It was announced that all brambleberries in his kingdom and of course, his castle shall be destroyed due to Luna's terrible gift.
Years passed, and Princess Somnambula Rose into a wise, funny and clever mare whose friend to one and all! Princess Somnambula was very helpful of everypony around Ponyville. She also took care of Ponyville's berry patches. One very special day, which was Princess Somnambula Rose's Sixteenth Birthday, everypony was alive with activities. With Prince Rockhoof announcing that his sister's Sixteenth Birthday had arrived, all of the ponies were decorating their houses with confetti, balloons and paper flags. However, no pony had ever and I mean EVER thought about Luna's evil wish. No pony except for Luna. Luna then flew into Ponyville and put a brambleberry onto the ground. She casted the spell onto the brambleberry. "On this perfect day of Princess Somnambula Rose," said Luna. "The entire kingdom makes merry. Today, may my gift finally be delivered, on the thorn of a brambleberry!" Luna then left the village. An hour later, Princess Somnambula Rose picked some berries from the berry patches. While she was picking some berries, Princess Somnambula noticed a brambleberry bush standing there. She approached the brambleberries. "A new kind of berry?" Princess Somnambula said in delight. "What a great gift for me!" But the brambleberries have thorns on it. As Princess Somnambula Rose plucked a brambleberry, the thorn of a brambleberry scratched her hoof! Poor Princess Somnambula Rose couldn't taste that brambleberry and she fell into a deep, dreamless slumber.
Suddenly, Mudbriar the IIX, saw Princess Somnambula Rose sleeping on the ground. Shocked, Mudbriair quickly raced to Prince Rockhoof at his castle. "Your sister is lying on the ground!" Mudbriar said in tears. "She's dead!" "No, Princess Somnambula Rose is not dead." Sweetie said as she confronted Mubriar. "She was sleeping." "Wait, you mean, the gift?" Mudbriar asked. "Yes." Sweetie said. "Then, if Princess Somnambula Rose is sleeping," returned Prince Rockhoof. "Then bring me, Mudbriar and some of your Pony Fairies friends here to the place my sister is sleeping!"
Sweetie took Prince Rockhoof, Mudbriar, and The Four Pony Fairies to the place where Princess Somnambula Rose was sleeping. To their horror, they found Princess Somnambula Rose sleeping and beside her was a brambleberry. They knew that something bad had already happened. Luna's evil wish had finally been cast! The Five Pony Fairies took the Princess to the castle and made her as comfortable as possible. They put Princess Somnambula Rose into bed. "Now, Princess Somnambula Rose," said Sweetie softly. "Since you're sleeping, everypony will know you as 'Sleeping Somnambula'." Sweetie then left the room.
After Sweetie left the room where Princess Somnambula Rose was sleeping, she and the other Four Pony Fairies made a vow to visit each other daily to find a way to reverse Luna's evil curse, but they noticed how sad everypony was, including Prince Rockhoof. "Don't worry, girls." Sweetie said. "We'll make everypony fall into a deep slumber and then, I'll find a way to reverse Luna's terrible gift." The Five Pony Fairies then agreed and they waved their wands to make everypony fall into a deep sleep, including Prince Rockhoof, Mudbriar and of course, Twilie. "Alright, let's go home and I'll find a way to reverse the curse." Sweetie said.
The Five Pony Fairies then went back to their house. Sweetie flew into her room and tried her best to undo the curse, but it was bad luck! Sometimes, Sweetie's spell goes into the wrong direction like her mane going up. Luna, who had been watching Sweetie through the window, laughed, a very evil laugh. "There's no way that young mare is ever gonna wake up!" cackled Luna. Then, Sweetie tried another spell, but bad luck again because the spell made her mane messed up.
"No! My beautiful mane! What have you done?!" Sweetie said as she talked to herself. "No! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mess up your mane!" Suddenly, Sweetie's mane began to go back to normal. She then laughed. "Apology accepted!" Luna was shocked. She rubbed her eyes and said, "How in the world did Sweetie forgive herself for her mistakes?! Hmph! I would never forgive somepony for their own mistakes!" Luna watched Sweetie at the window. Sweetie then invited Starlight, Cherry Jubilee, Pinkamena and Sapphire to her room.
"Alright, did you find the spell to reverse Luna's curse?" Pinkamena asked. "No, I didn't." said Sweetie sadly. "I hope your spells will be better than those tarts I made." Cherry Jubilee said. "Come on." The Five Pony Fairies then took their break to have a snack. Suddenly, Luna began to feel something in her heart. "Wasn't I being too harsh on Princess Somnambula Rose?" said Luna. "I better go back to my castle." Luna then flies back to her castle in the Everfree Forest and she sadly sits in her throne room.
Days began to go by, and Princess Somnambula Rose was still sleeping. Every season began to change by every day and night. The winter came before the hundredth day had passed, and poor Luna was freezing in eternal loneliness inside her castle. Soon, the spring season came and after all of the snow melted away, Luna then decided to go to Prince Rockhoof's kingdom to see if Princess Somnambula Rose was still under her evil wish. She went to the room where Princess Somnambula Rose was sleeping on the bed. Suddenly, Luna began to feel ashamed and overcome by depression. "What the?! This was supposed to cheer me up!" Luna said in an emotional tone. "Well, Princess Somnambula Rose, look at you, sleeping and you even have friends while you sleep! Why do I feel crummy? I am the one who was wronged, I am the one no one invited, I am the one who got my feelings hurt, but now, I have hurt anypony else's feelings, including Princess Somnambula Rose's." Soon, emotional tears began to fill Luna's eyes. "You know what?!" cried Luna. "You are the only pony to be adored by everypony, but not me! I have no one else! I have no one single friend in the world!" Luna sobbed and sobbed as she flew out of the room and left Prince Rockhoof's castle.
Just as Luna was about to go back to her castle, she bumped into a young colt with dark tangelo mane and tail. Luna was horrified and flew over to see if the young colt was okay. "Oh no! I'm sorry!" said Luna. "Please, forgive me!" The young colt, who dusted off the dust from his body, said to Luna, "No! I won't! You did it on purpose!" "What?!" shouted Luna. "But it was a mistake!" Luna started to complain, but the young colt covered his ears. "I'm not listening, I'm not listening because you did this one on purpose!" the young colt said. "GRAHHH!" Luna groaned. "Why aren't you listening to me?!"
"Well, listening was the importance of a good pony." the young colt said. Luna suddenly became surprised when she noticed the young colt smiling. "Why are you smiling?" Luna asked. "And who are you, young colt?" "If you don't know my name," the young colt said. "The name's Squire Pipsqueak." "Oh, Squire Pipsqueak!" Luna cried. "I am having a very bad day! Why, oh why?!" Squire Pipsqueak approached Luna and said, "Well, I heard many stories from my teacher, Madame Cheerilee. She told me everything about Sleeping Somnambula and you. You are Luna, the Thirteenth Pony Fairy, right?"
"Yes." Luna said sadly. "No pony wants all because I put a curse on Princess Somnambula Rose." "Well, Luna," Squire Pipsqueak said. "I mean, Madame Cheerilee told me that you lived inside a castle surrounded by thickets of brambleberries in the Everfree Forest. Why don't we team up and break the terrible wish of yours?" Luna suddenly was surprised. She didn't know that Squire Pipsqueak could be brave. Luna then agreed and soon, the brambleberry bushes began to clear away and a doorway appeared. "Alright, let's go and save Princess Somnambula Rose!" Squire Pipsqueak said.
Luna and Squire Pipsqueaks ran to Prince Rockhoof's castle and they went to the room where Princess Somnambula Rose was sleeping. "Princess Somnambula Rose has been sleeping for a hundred days." Squire Pipsqueak said. "I better try to wake her up." Squire Pipsqueak tried yelling "wake up", but it didn't work, next he tried pushing her, but it didn't work either, then he tried tickling her with a feather from his hat, but it didn't work neither, and finally, he tried jumping up on the bed, but none of it would it work. "What can we do?" Squire Pipsqueak asked. "Princess Somnambula Rose can't sleep forever!"
"Maybe, I can undo my terrible gift." Luna said. She walked closer to Princess Somnambula Rose and said, "Princess Somnambula Rose, a mare who is sweet, kind and clever, woke up from my evil curse and spread joy and happiness!" Soon, some dark blue mist began to spread around Princess Somnambula Rose, but she didn't wake up. "It didn't work." Luna sighed. "I guess the Princess wouldn't forgive me anymore." "Don't give up, Mrs. Luna!" Squire Pipsqueak said. "It looks like we need some help, a help from a good friend."
Back at The Five Pony Fairies' house, they are trying to find a way to break the curse until there is a knock at the door. Sapphire opens the door and The Five Pony Fairies are surprised to see Luna coming. "Luna!" Sapphire said in surprise. "What are you doing here?" "Well," Luna said. "I want to give you an apology." "What for?" Sweetie asked. "For putting a curse on Princess Somnambula Rose." Luna said. "I'm very sorry for doing that. It's all because I wasn't invited to her First Birthday. So I may think you would not forgive me for my bad mistakes." "Of course, we will forgive you." Sapphire said. "Until we work together to wake Princess Somnambula Rose up!"
Soon, Squire Pipsqueak, Luna and The Five Pony Fairies went back to Prince Rockhoof's kingdom. The Pony Fairies then worked together and they cast a spell. Suddenly, Princess Somnambula Rose began to wake up. "Look, the Princess is waking up!" Squire Pipsqueak said. "And so did everypony else!" Pinkamena cheered. Everypony in the kingdom is waking up, including Prince Rockhoof, Twilie and Mudbriar. Princess Somnambula Rose woke up and saw Squire Pipsqueak. "Oh! Who are you?" asked Princess Somnambula. "I'm Squire Pipsqueak." he said. "Madame Cheerilee told me a lot of stories about you." "I just took a nap. Did I miss the party?" Princess Somnambula asked. "No!" Pinkamena said. "The party would have begun if only Luna was around." "Speaking of Luna, where is she?" Starlight asked. Then, Princess Somnambula Rose and her friends noticed Luna feeling left out.
"Luna, wait!" Princess Somnambula called. "You'll miss the party!" "It was all my fault." Luna said sadly. "I made you under my evil wish. Look at that brambleberry bush, it was all my fault, too." "Well," Pinkamena said. "Sometimes, everypony makes mistakes." "Besides, I will forgive you." Princess Somnambula said. "I didn't know you grow brambleberry bushes. Can you teach me?" Suddenly, Luna began to feel touched by Princess Somnambula Rose's words and she hugged her. "Oh, Princess Somnambula Rose, how I thank you for accepting my apology!" Luna said.
"Alright, everypony!" Pinkamena said. "Let's continue celebrating Princess Somnambula Rose's Sixteenth Birthday in honor of her awakening from the spell! Let's party!" And so Luna celebrated Princess Somnambula Rose's Sixteenth Birthday with all of her best friends. After this great party, Luna then went back home and cut the brambleberry patch to make a pathway. For then on, Luna would ever forgive her friends for their mistakes and she listens well. Princess Somnambula Rose, Luna, The Five Pony Fairies, Prince Rockhoof, Twilie, Mudbriar, Squire Pipsqueak and everypony in the kingdom lived happily ever after!
