Prequel: The girl who'd seen the ghosts
It has always been like this, as long as she could remember. She saw things that others did not see. Strange forms, blurred by some sort of mist, that walked through the crowds without paying attention to the other beings. Except they were able to walk through walls and people. PEOPLE.
Lucy was never found of ghost's stories. She lived in a world full of supernatural, surrounded by mages of all sorts. Since she had started working in this city, Hargeon, she had witnessed thousands of magical events. They were parts of her daily routine and were accepted by the population. Even those without magical power knew it existed, and that was what allowed the young girl to not go crazy.
She was part of those who did not possess any power. Since birth, she had been considered a disgrace in her family, and that's why she ran away, three years ago. It was even harder after her mother died, and she could not stand her father spending days talking about how she would never fit in the society, as a royal who could not cast a single spell. Even if the majority of the population was blessed with magic, those who lacked it could find jobs or goals to fulfill. At least that was what Lucy wanted to believe.
To prove she was right, she left her home and its comfort to try to live on her own. The blond girl had never worked before because of the wealth of her family. The Heartfilia had been rich for a few centuries, and it was how Lucy was educated: a rich child.
But she never let it get to her head. If being free and avoiding critics meant efforts, sweat and work, she was more then willing to do it. And after months of research, she was able to find a job at a Hargeon's restaurant. She was not paid much, but she could live in the city and enjoy her life better than before. Freedom (and the sea) was what constructed her newly found happiness. And ever since she had started to see ghosts, this happiness was tainted.
It had started on a cold winter morning, when she was getting ready for work. As soon as she got out, she felt like she was being watched. At first, she did not see anything. So she kept on walking, a bit faster. She had never been attacked, and she did not want to be, mainly knowing that she did not have any magic to defend herself. The young girl had walked faster, but the feeling had only gotten worst. Suddenly, it appeared to be a growing sound, menacing, low, and she was startled. She turned around, facing whatever was going to hit her … But there was nothing. Only a person casually walking through the wall and … WAIT WHAT?
Since that day, she had seen so many of them that it had become common for her. Lucy had asked her co-workers if they saw them once or twice, but she was just looked at like she was crazy or something. So eventually, she stopped saying anything about the matter.
She often saw the same ghosts walking around, some blue hair girl with a mermaid outfit, some strange goat man, even a biped cow?! This world was definitely a magical one.
She decided to stop dealing with them. To ignore their strange faces and their unusual attitude. The fact that no one actually saw them could make them disappear one day, right?
But it revealed to be more difficult than she thought at first. Because one day before, one of the ghosts had gotten her attention. A golden hair one, with lion's ears and a seductive look. He had locked gaze with her, and something between surprise and curiousness had appeared in his eyes. He had waved to her.
"Hi, I'm Leo. Nice to meet the chosen one. See ya around?"
And with that, he had left.
Lucy could not sleep during the night that followed. The chosen one? What was this all about. Now that the young girl was free, she did not want to be locked again. Or hurt again. So she was going to investigate, and find out what, or who, these beings really were.
In the corner of an alley lied a young man with pink hair. His face lost in the shadow of the rising sun, he chuckled.
"Guess we found her, Happy."
Hi people! Thanks for reading my fiction. I had stopped writing for years, but reading many Fairy Tail fictions (and a dream) inspired me. I came up with a new AU, and I hope you'll like it! Please review to tell me what to improve, if you like it and what you guess this universe is about.
See you soon for chapter one!
