Goku smiled warmly as he watched his granddaughter stumble around in front of him, gurgling and giggling to herself as she adventured through the tall blades of grass of the Son family garden.

She was so strong now, so confident as her little wobbly legs stomped about their wild garden.

He wondered where the time had gone?

How were they all the way here now?

She looked back at him and babbled incoherent words, pointing at the grass before her. He lightly chuckled as he watched her bend down bo-legged to inspect the grassy ground, looking for bugs.

She looked so funny, so cute in her pink baby grow covered in dirt.

He missed this.

He missed seeing them so small, so innocent, so unaware of the real world, so lost in their own.

He missed the smiles they gave when they discovered something new.

He missed the way their eyes lit up whenever they saw him coming into the room.

He missed the way they'd put out their little arms to him, asking for him to pick them up and hold them tight.

He missed how they'd reach out their hand for his, just to hold onto so they felt safe as they walked.

He missed being needed in a different way. Not needed to save the world, but to just be a part of theirs.

He'd missed so much. Too much.

Little Pan called for her grandpa, well, he thought that's what she was trying to say as she shouted away, her eyes on him.

Grandpa. He was a grandpa now, just like his grandpa. It really came full circle, and in such a short space of time, so it seemed.

The years just flew by, and he should have stopped for a second to take it all in.

Gohan was all grown, with a family of his own, proof of that staring right at him in her pink babygrow in his back garden.

Goten was practically a teenager now, still innocent and playful in his ways, but that 7 year old was long gone.

Goku smiled sadly as Pan sat down amongst the thickets, pulling at the greenery and cooing her song.

He wished he could go back in time, not necessarily to change too much, but to feel a few things for a second time.

He'd do all the sleepless nights again, the tantrums, the tears, comforting them from their little nightmares.

He'd experience all the milestones again, the love, the pride, the joy.

He'd love them hard, with everything he had, he'd die for them all over again.

He'd hold onto his boys for just a little bit longer.

A soft, warm touch to his left shoulder stole him from his thoughts, his head tipping back to look up at the sweet happy face of his wife. He smiled when his eyes met hers, and he watched her every move as she joined him amongst the grass.

"She's still hunting for bugs?" Chichi asked him, her eyes on their granddaughter.

"Yup, them bugs don't stand a chance"

"She's just like Gohan, he always loved hunting for bugs. Funny how that's part of his job now" she chuckled out.

They enjoyed a comfortable silence for a couple of minutes, just watching Pan as she waddled through the grass.

"You done so good" Goku broke the silence. Chichi turned to face him in question.

"What do you mean?"

"With Gohan an' Goten. You're the best mom. You got em' where they are today. Gohan has Pan 'cause ya done such a good job with him"

"We did such a good job with him" Chichi corrected her husband.

"Nah, I can't take credit for nothin'. This was all you. I just threw everyone into chaos, or I wasn' here" Goku solemnly responded.

"Goku, don't" Chichi warned, "We've talked about this. It's not your fault our lives were thrown into chaos. You didn't know you were a Saiyan and you didn't ask to be hunted down by all those enemies. And just because you weren't always here, doesn't mean you weren't a good dad. Our boys adore you, they have nothing but love and respect for you. Their eyes light up everytime they see you, and that speaks volumes, Goku"

Her eyes were still on her husband, his gaze dropping to the ground beneath him, his hands picking at the blades of grass.

"And anyway, Gohan figured out a lot of this on his own. We may have been there to support him and teach him and open his eyes to the world, but he chose what he wanted to do himself. He chose what makes him happy" Chichi smiled.

"I guess so" Goku murmured. Chichi nudged her husband playfully and he turned to look at her.

"Without you, Gohan wouldn't even be here. Kinda needed the two of us for that" she wiggled her eyebrows at him suggestively, making him snort out a laugh.

"We did good" she repeated herself, resting her head against his broad shoulder and taking his hand that rested against his thigh so she could hold it, her eyes back on her little granddaughter. Goku smiled warmly, planting a soft kiss to the top of his wife's head before resting his chin there and returning his gaze to Pan.

"Just sometimes wish things had been different, y'know?" Goku admitted to his wife.

"I know, but we can't change the past, honey, we can only make the best of now"

"Ye" he quietly responded.

There was another comfortable silence between the grandparents as the gentle wind blew and the birds chirped in the trees of the woodland surrounding their home.

"It's fun bein' a grandpa" Goku thought, as he watched Pan dig in the ground with her hands, talking to herself, "I wonder if my grandpa felt like this"

"I know he had the most fun bein' your grandpa" Chichi sweetly told him. Her words made him smile and she felt him squeeze her hand just a little bit as if to silently thank her.

"Ya reckon she'll be a Super Saiyan, too?" Goku wondered out loud. Chichi rolled her eyes.

"I hope not, we got enough on our hands with you boys"

"C'mon, it'll be so cool. She'd be the first girl to do it, well, that we know of" Goku thought.

"You Saiyans" she huffed out, flicking his nose gently with her free hand, making him chuckle.

"Well, it don't matter if she ain't one. She don't need to be a Super Saiyan" he told her.

"Why not?"

"She got your genes an' Videl's. She'll be just fine, but we're all done for" he joked. Chichi huffed out a laugh, removing her head from her husband's shoulder and pushing him playfully with her shoulder.

"You boys wouldn't be able to survive without us" She told him.

"We'd be a mess" he told her sincerely, his eyes on his little wife.

"You would" she agreed, her eyes meeting his, the warmth in his gaze making her heart swell. It was at that moment that Pan plodded over to them, and she handed her grandpa a beetle. Goku chuckled gently, letting the small beetle scurry around in the palm of his free hand.

"Look at that, Pan. It's a beetle" he told the little girl.

"It's a blue beetle" Chichi added. Pan dipped her head down, her face almost in Goku's hand as she observed the beetle.

"Remember, though, ya gotta put him back where ya found him, Pan. We mustn't take him from his family" Goku reminded the small child. Pan gurgled something incoherent making both grandparents laugh. She then took the beetle from Goku's hand and launched it across the garden, close to where she found it, making both grandparents cringe.

"That's not quite what grandpa meant" he laughed out to Pan. Goku looked over the top of her head for a brief moment, before taking his attention back to Pan.

"Look over there, Pan. Can ya see the pink flower?" Goku asked her. Pan turned around by Goku's knee and looked across the grass.

"See the flower, Pan? A big, pink flower. Go get it" he told her with enthusiasm. Pan smiled and stumbled across the garden to the big, pink flower like her grandpa said. She yanked it from the ground and studied it for a few seconds before holding it up in the air to show her grandpa.

"Yeah! That's it! Now, bring it to grandpa!" he encouraged her, waving her over to him. Pan quickly made her way back over to her grandpa and handed him the flower.

"Thank you, Pan. Ya reckon we should give this to grandma?" He whispered loudly to Pan, shielding his mouth with his free hand as if to stop his wife from hearing. Chichi shook her head in amusement at her husband. Pan cheered and clapped her hands, which Goku guessed meant 'yes'. He looked at his wife, smiling warmly at her as he handed her the flower.

"For you, grandma" he softly told her.

"Well, thank you, grandpa. That's very kind of you" she gave him a quick peck on the lips which had Pan giggling before them. Goku tickled Pan under her chin, making her laugh some more, before turning back to his wife.

"Can I have another?" He gently asked, his head already leaning towards hers.

"Pan's watching" she reminded him. Goku used his free hand to cover Pan's face, her body jolting, confused as to why it suddenly went dark and she couldn't see.

"Now she's not" he whispered to his wife, before pressing his lips against hers. Chichi couldn't help but smile against her husband's lips as he sweetly kissed her, their granddaughter's presence forgotten for just a moment.

"Dada! Dada!" Pan's little muffled voice came from beneath Goku's palm. The grandparents ended their kiss to give her their attention, Goku removing his hand.

"Did she just call you dada?" Chichi asked her husband.

"Dada! Dada!" Pan chirped again, Goku grinned, a sweat drop forming at the side of his head.

"I'm not ya dada, silly, i'm ya grandpa. We talked 'bout this, Pan" he laughed out.

"Dada!" she giggled, so Goku scooped her up into his hands and carefully threw her up into the air and caught her.

"Grandpa! Say, Grandpa!"

"Dada!" she said again, and both grandparents couldn't help but laugh.

"Just like her daddy, he called my dad 'daddy' for a while, probably because he heard me saying it" Chichi guessed.

"Ye, I remember that" Goku recalled, throwing Pan up and catching her again.

"And you'd pout everytime he called him daddy and you'd be like 'no, Gohan, i'm your daddy'" she giggled. Goku pouted at her as he held Pan in his arms.

"'Cause I am his daddy" he reminded her.

"You're so silly" she poked fun at him, "Grandpa's so silly" Chichi cooed, squishing Pan's little cheek.

"Dada" Pan gurgled out. Goku sighed and Chichi laughed. Pan crawled out of Goku's arms and into Chichi's and Goku sat back and watched as his little wife played with his little granddaughter and sang her a sweet song.

He may have missed out on things with his boys, but he loved them with everything he had, and he knew they loved him, too.

And now he loved Pan.

It was time to make some new memories.
