Written for the day 3 prompt: tokosatsu AU. Enjoy!
Ignoring the military's rules of decorum, Penny Polendina pulls her father in for a hug. "It's good to be back, dad. I'm afraid that Floating Array took a bit of a beating, though. That last kaiju was tough."
"Well, as much as I know that you love it, Floating Array is replaceable. You are not," Pietro reminds her. "I'm confident that we should be able to repair the damage, though. I'll have my apprentice take a look at it."
"Since when do you have an apprentice?" Penny asks as they make their way towards her father's workshop.
"You've been gone for quite a while, my dear," Pietro tells her. There's a hint of sadness in his voice. "And I'm afraid I'm not getting any younger. I needed a set of hands to help out, and she seemed like she'd make a good fit."
"I'm sorry, dad." Penny sighs. "Things have just been so busy lately. Hopefully I can be around more now that things have calmed down for a bit."
"That's good to hear," Pietro replies, holding open the door to the workshop and ushering Penny in ahead of him. "Ruby, are you in there?"
"Yes, sir!" A young, female voice replies.
"Excellent, excellent. Well, Ruby, I'd like to introduce you to my daughter Penny Polendina. Penny, this is Ruby Rose, my new assistant."
"It's nice to meet you," Penny says, holding her hand out for the other girl to shake.
"You as well!" Ruby replies, enthusiastically taking Penny's hand and shaking it. Her grip is firm and although she's wearing gloves, Penny can imagine that her hands are tough and calloused from years of engineering. "I've heard a lot about you," she says brightly. "Pietro can't stop talking about you."
Penny finds herself blushing slightly. "That's my dad for you," she tells Ruby, trying to sound causal. Ruby seems pretty nice and cool; Penny hopes that her dad hasn't told her anything too embarrassing. "So, uh-"
"Penny, why don't you take Ruby and show her around Floating Array?" Her father's suggestion cuts her off. "I'll go pick up some lunch for the three of us."
"That sounds great!" Ruby replies. "Penny-is it okay if I can you that? I'm okay if you want to call me Ruby-well, you can lead the way."
"I'm fine with you calling me Penny," she reassures Ruby. "Anyway, let's go!"
Penny's pretty sure that she and Ruby are going to get along just fine.
