A/N: Apologies for the short-ish chapter. Enjoy!
Trig is in Italics
It was well past midnight by the time they had arrived to the Wonkru camp on the border of the wasteland and the Valley. Pulling in they could see the mess that had been made. Those who weren't injured were pointing their guns, making sure they weren't the enemy. While the vast majority were all scattered.
They didn't waste time as Murphy jumped out followed by Emori as they shouted for help. Together they carefully guided Gaia out as Bellamy then came out to help steady her.
"Stand down! Stand down they're with us!" Harper shouted as she came running forward to help. Monty hot on her heels.
Bellamy and Murphy carried Gaia forward, getting Monty to show the way to Jackson.
Indra moved to follow but Octavia stopped her telling her that she would be ok, and that Jackson and the others save her.
"Look around, do you see signs of hope here?" Indra told her, the feeling not mutual and her only focus at the moment was being by her daughters side, shoving past Octavia.
Once Gaia was settled Bellamy had come back and wrapped both Echo and Griffin in his arms, holding them close and tight. Being stuck out in the gorge he didn't think he would see them again or if he would even survive. So being with them now, he savored every passing second.
"I'm never letting you out of my sight again." He mumbled into Griffin's messy hair and pulled away enough to look at him. Wishing he knew what they had gone through.
"I missed you." Griffin told him as he laid his head on his chest. Bellamy returned the feeling and held on just a moment longer before letting go and placing him back down on his feet. He tried to lighten the heavy atmosphere and gave a smile down at him, placing his hand on top of his head to measure him.
"Did you grow while you were gone? What were they feeding you over there, look at you!" Bellamy joked causing Griffin to laugh and nod.
He was about to make another remark when mutteres started filling the air and caused their attention to turn towards the middle of the camp. All eyes on Madi as she looked back at them.
"Heda is going to save us." One said bringing Octavia's attention as well. She unsheathed her sword and began walking forward. This had caused everyone to quickly move forward to try and protect Madi, unsure of what Octavia was about to do.
Guns were drawn and pointed at Octavia, Bellamy and Echo standing in front of the girl. Bellamy held a hand out to stop her.
"Out of my way." Was all Octavia said.
Bellamy was ready to argue with her but Madi stood firm and told him to let her through.
"Heda, that isn't a good-" Echo started but Madi repeated herself, telling them to let her pass.
Octavia moved past them and stood only a few feet away from Madi, her face showing no emotion as she looked over the girl. The air was tense as they all watched to see what she would do. And after what felt like minutes of her standing there, Octavia raised her sword, tilted it downward and shoved the sword into the sand. Kneeling down in front of Madi as she did so and bowing her head. She was recognizing Madi as the Commander.
Slowly the guns were lowered, and one by one everyone else followed. Bending the knee to Madi, their new Commander.
Madi looked scared at first, seeing just how many were bowed before her. But in the end she gave a look of determination. She could do it. She was ready.
Once the crowds dispersed and went back to their tasks, Madi and the others grouped together to discuss what would happen next.
"If luck is on our side, Clarke will have the missiles down for us to march again. It's smaller numbers, but we still have a good enough force to break through. And having the extra weapons helps." Bellamy relayed the information Echo had told him earlier during their ride in the rover.
"Once we get past the gorge. The Valley is as good as ours." Octavia added, ready to finally take their home back.
Madi agreed with them and offered they get some rest, supplying that once dawn hit, they would march.
Monty and Harper helped supply them with the few remaining provision's they had, and set them up in a small tent. Madi chose to sleep in the rover, while Echo and Bellamy took the tent.
They knew neither would get much sleep. But looking down and seeing their son sound asleep in-between them, helped them to relax and focus on the hope of winning. Echo was laid on her side facing Bellamy on the opposite side of Griffin. Bellamy had himself propped up one elbow while his other hand had been softly moving up and down Echo's arm, before moving to soothe Griffin who had mumbled and turned over onto his stomach.
"I never stopped worrying about you two. Knowing if you were ok or not. What they were doing to you all when we started marching-" He had started but cut himself off not wanting to imagine the thoughts that had previously crossed him mind.
Echo brought her arm up and placed it on his cheek, "We all looked out for each other. No one would have let anything happen to him. Emori told me he was brave just like his father and helped look out for her." She mused glancing down at Griffin. She too found it hard not to picture what could have happened if Clarke had let that guard shoot her.
"Bellamy I-" Echo's voice broke off, unable to finish her sentence and Bellamy only scooted closer. Holding onto her hand as he gently leaned over and kissed her. It was long and full of love.
"I love you." He said staring into her eyes. He smiled seeing the blush creep onto her cheeks. Over the years spent together she never took well to compliments or loving remarks. Seeing as she never much received them growing up it was easy to see why. But nonetheless it always made Bellamy smile to see her at least accept them by either hiding her face or rolling her eyes.
"I love you too." She finally said back and they spent the rest of the night cuddled together and being in each others' presence.
Morning came all too soon and they were all packed and ready to go. War paint on their faces and weapons locked and loaded. Echo walked down the line of warriors as she came to stand beside Octavia and Miller.
"We can't wait much longer. McCreary has Raven and Shaw, one of them will break and fly that ship."
"You said Clarke was handling that." Octavia said looking to her.
"She is. But I'd rather not let missiles tell is she failed." Echo replied making a fair point.
"What's left of First Battalion is ready." Miller told her.
"The Commander's army is too." Another soldier spoke beside them.
Echo nodded as Indra and Bellamy came out of the medic tent. "We're all the Commander's army now." Indra said sharing a look with Octavia.
"Speaking of, where is she?" Echo asked Bellamy looking around and not seeing her. He motioned back toward the medic tent.
Walking in they saw her sitting next to a sleeping Gaia.
Bellamy and Indra went back inside to get her while Echo moved over to check in on Monty and Harper. It was good seeing them again. If only the circumstances were better. Griffin was making sand piles behind them.
"So, once we force our way in, you'll be right behind us. Hopefully Abby is still functioning and will be able to help with the critically injured."
They all agreed and stepped aside so that Echo could talk with Griffin. She knelt down beside him and admired the messy work he made.
"Hey kiddo. Come here a second." She helped dust him off as he stood and took his hands in hers as she looked at him.
"Your going to be with Harper and Monty for awhile ok? I need you to stay by their side and be a good boy ok? Listen to everything they tell you to do." He avoided her eyes at first but made eye contact with her and gave a small nod.
"Your going away again?" He asked in a disappointed voice, kicking the sand at his feet.
She nodded, "Yes, but this is the last time. After today you, me, and your father..Monty, Harper, Raven, Emori and Murphy. We will all be together again." She stated, not letting her nerves get the better of her. She was more confident now than before. They were going to win.
Giving final hugs she then told Monty and Harper to be safe, before rejoining the rest of Wonkru as they gathered to march out.
Madi took her place up front. Bellamy, Echo, Octavia and Indra by her side. Guiding her the entire way as they marched back to the gorge.
The true battle for the Valley was about to begin.
