Sing For The Moment by Eminem played from the radio as Hank carefully drove, Leah half asleep from the medicine that she had been given for her.
"You okay there, kid?" Hank asked as Leah tried not to scratch at the splint on her right wrist.
"Tired." Leah responded, Hank lightly rubbing her left shoulder.
"That's just the meds kicking in. We'll clock out and go home." Hank replied.
At the precinct, Leah was struggling to stay alert and Connor helped her sit down.
"Take a few minutes, Leah." Connor responded.
Leah nodded before Connor packed Leah's things up for her as Hank talked to Fowler… and Fowler and Hank walked over to Leah before Fowler and Leah hugged for a few seconds.
His LED flashing yellow, Connor saw a message appear in front of him.
'Return To CyberLife For Brief Recharge'
"I've been called back to CyberLife. I will see you later." Connor explained as he rested his right hand on Leah's left shoulder and she rested her left hand on his right hand.
"Be safe, Connor. I'm gonna make a cup of coffee before I go." Leah responded before they let go and she walked into the break room as Connor left.
Hearing footsteps as the espresso was brewing, Leah looked up and saw Gavin.
"Who's ass do I have to kick?!" Gavin questioned after seeing the splint on her right wrist.
"Gavin, it's just a sprain. I fell when I was chasing after a suspect." Leah explained, Gavin pulling her into a hug.
"Go home, Red, put a pack of ice on it." Gavin responded before they let go and Leah fixed her cup of coffee to her liking before she drank it.
"I need to stay alert." Leah replied after throwing the empty cup of coffee away.
"Life of a cop." Gavin responded before he put his arms around her shoulders and she rested her left hand on his right hand. "Speaking as your best friend… you need to take care of yourself, this is the second time you've gotten injured on the job in almost 3 months." He whispered before he kissed the side of her head.
Gavin lightly rubbed her back before they let go and walked to her desk, Gavin grabbing Leah's things.
"I'll be home as soon as I can, kid. Gonna go grab some dinner for us." Hank responded before he and Leah hugged and Leah and Gavin left after they clocked out.
Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) by Train played from the radio of Gavin's 2025 Dodge Charger as he drove carefully and he and Leah started singing… and Gavin lightly rubbed Leah's left hand in his right one before he kissed it after seeing her smile.
"Finally, I get a smile from you." Gavin replied as they reached Michigan Drive and reached the Anderson house, Gavin pulling into the driveway.
After parking the car, Gavin turned the engine off and he and Leah unbuckled before they got out.
Gavin grabbed Leah's things and guided her into the house, Sumo barking happily and running to them.
"Hey, boy." Gavin responded after setting Leah's things aside and Leah closing the door as Gavin petted Sumo and light scratched Sumo's ears and chin.
"He missed you, he hasn't seen you for a while." Leah replied as she petted Sumo, who licked her injured wrist and nuzzled her.
"He hasn't. I'm going to try to come over here more, it's been too long." Gavin explained as he looked around.
The house hadn't changed much since he was a regular visitor and to Gavin, it felt empty.
Walking into the kitchen once Leah was in the shower, Gavin cleaned off the table and set the picture of Cole upright on it… and he brushed his tears away.
'You deserved a long life, little buddy.' Gavin thought as he thought back.
October 24th 2035…
After the funeral had ended, Gavin walked down the hallway in the Anderson house… and he quietly opened the door to Leah's room and saw the 17 year old curled up on her right side with a Stitch plushie tucked under her left arm that he knew belonged to Cole.
Walking into the room, Gavin quietly closed and locked the door and he saw some of Leah's things packed into a half open duffel bag and sat down next to her.
"Where are you thinking of going to?" Gavin asked.
"Anywhere. This doesn't feel like home anymore." Leah explained, Gavin brushing her tears away.
"Hank needs you, Red." Gavin responded.
"Hank hates me, Gavin. He won't admit it but he does." Leah replied, Gavin stretching out on the bed and pulling her into a hug.
"If, and I'm talking if on the tiniest chance Hank kicks you out, my place is always open for you to stay. But don't run off, okay? Everyone in your life would be crushed if we couldn't find you, Leah." Gavin whispered before he kissed her forehead and watched her settle into sleep with her head on his left shoulder.
In the hallway, Hank sat down on the floor and brushed his tears away.
It was irrational of him to hold hatred against Leah and he didn't know why he was angry towards her…
Present time…
Checking on Leah after a while, Gavin heard the bedroom door open and saw Leah wearing a pair of black fleece lined leggings and a charcoal gray tank top… and saw that she had left her makeup on and had trimmed, filed and repainted her nails as he saw Olive & June's Twilight on her nails.
"Nice color." Gavin responded as he carefully examined her bruised wrist and Leah took the banana clip out of her hair and let it fall past her shoulders.
"Thanks." Leah replied.
"You're welcome. I'll get you an ice pack." Gavin responded before he walked into the kitchen and grabbed an ice pack from the freezer.
With Sumo snoring away in his sleep, Gavin saw Leah walk into the living room and they sat down before Gavin held the ice pack on her wrist.
Going into Leah's room, he returned after he grabbed a pair of fleece lined socks and the wrist splint and carefully put the socks on her feet and flinched at how cold they felt.
"Yikes, Red. How are you not shivering?" Gavin replied.
"I grabbed a sweater from my closet but couldn't get it over my head earlier." Leah explained as she sat down and crossed her legs.
Standing up and going back into the kitchen, Gavin put the ice pack in the freezer and walked back to Leah as she put the splint on her right wrist and made sure it wasn't strapped on too tight.
Gavin pulled his jacket off and put it on her, Leah putting her arms through the sleeves and Gavin standing up and walking to the thermostat before he readjusted the temperature.
"Why doesn't Hank set this thing to over 70° in the colder time of year?" Gavin asked.
"I have no idea. I think he just ignores the thermostat." Leah explained as Gavin sat back down and wrapped his right arm around her shoulders, Leah resting her head on his right shoulder as Gavin turned the Tv on and switched it to Cartoon Network.
The intro to Ed, Edd N Eddy started playing and they saw the title card Out With The Old, In With The Ed as the episode started.
Leaving a liquor store, Hank put the bottle of Black Lamb in a paper bag and put it in the backseat before he closed the door and got into the driver's side of the car.
He knew that Leah would chew him out for it but he was also feeling withdrawals and it was driving him crazy.
