The Deserter And The Mummy
It was decided it was best to try and avoid Drannor's planet at least until he needed to go to a temple again, and he hoped it would be a long while before he had to go back. Drannor still felt rather guilty about the temple he'd burned down, and he felt rather shaken up by Hadir finding him, and the strength that Hadir now had.
Drannor had tried to convince The Doctor to let him carry a sword around with him, but The Doctor said if Drannor wanted to start carrying the weapon then he could get off the Tardis. This led to an argument, about how Drannor could defend himself without a sword. But Drannor disagreed, since in most fights, he was outmatched in strength. Luckily Jack and Rose were there to defuse things, Jack had offered to train with Drannor in hand-to-hand combat.
So Drannor was currently stuck in a headlock, in a room the Tardis had fashioned for fighting, there were mirrors on the walls and the floors were covered in soft blue mats. "How the hell am I meant to get out of this Jack?!" The elf struggled against the much bigger man, trying to get Jack's arm off him.
"Like I've shown you." Jack grinned down at Drannor and started to ruffle the elf's hair with his free hand.
Drannor pouted and struggled more. "I told you there's no way I can flip you."
"Not with that attitude you won't use my weight against me. Trust me it's possible." Jack spoke as Drannor huffed and changed his stance, trying to get free again in the way Jack showed him, he managed to flip the much bigger man over his shoulder and onto his back.
"I did it!" Drannor let out a cheer and was in disbelief.
"I told you so, now you're forgetting a very important rule, nothing is keeping me down, there's no sword at my throat. You don't have control of the situation." As Jack said the last part he swung his leg, knocking Drannor's legs out from under him.
Drannor grunted as he landed on his back and before he knew it Jack was on top of him and had him pinned to the floor. "Remember it's self-defense, so once you've knocked your opponent off their feet use that chance to get away," Jack spoke softly looking down at Drannor.
The elf gave a nod then with a sudden heave he lifted his knee and rolled Jack off of him, as soon as Jack was on his back, Drannor pinned him down with one knee on each of Jack's arms. "You look rather good from this angle." He teased.
Jack chuckled. "I look good from every angle, but I must say you do look very good from my angle too." He playfully flirted back and Drannor rolled his eyes before getting up and then helping Jack up.
"I think that's enough for today, I'm going to have a wash and see if The Doctor and Rose are back yet." Drannor wiped his brow on his sleeve.
Jack moved standing close to Drannor and resting his hands on his waist. "Perhaps I can help you get cleaned up? I wash your back and you wash mine?"
Drannor's cheeks flushed and he looked up at Jack. "Behave Captain, You've already said hello to me today." He teased back.
Jack raised his eyebrow at Drannor and moved his face down so their noses were almost touching. "But I like saying hello to you."
"You like saying hello to anything with a pulse." Drannor chuckled and pushed Jack back. "I'll meet you in the console room once I'm ready." He called out as he left the room.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Drannor walked into the console room, his long hair tied back into a ponytail. He was smiling until he saw Jack's serious and worried expression. "Jack, what's wrong?"
"They're not back yet, I know they can get sidetracked but I had a look outside the Tardis doors, we're in some sort of Egyptian temple." Jack leaned against the console.
"Well, perhaps they got a bit lost or distracted...but we should probably go check on them." Drannor walked over to the Tardis doors as Jack gave a nod and followed. It wasn't all that unusual for The Doctor and Rose to come back late but usually Rose would give Jack a call.
As Drannor stepped out of the Tardis he looked around, he could barely see a thing. The only light was from the Tardis and one torch burning on the wall next to him. "Jack you might want to grab some of those electric lantern things."
"Already on it, sweet cheeks." Jack grinned as he came out of the Tardis and turned on his own flashlight before handing one to Drannor.
Drannor looked over the small black flashlight, when The Doctor showed him flashlights, he showed him one with a switch to flick, on this one, there didn't appear to be one.
"Here," Jack said as he gave Drannor the flashlight that was already on before turning on the flashlight he took off Drannor.
The elf shined his flashlight down the long hallway, the ground was stone with a layer of sand over it and the walls and ceiling were covered in carvings and paintings. "Wow...If this is just a random hallway and this is a temple then I can't wait to see the rest of it." He started walking, with Jack following next to him.
It was completely silent apart from the echo of their footsteps they soon came to a branch in the corridor. "Left or Right?" Jack asked.
"Well we could do both, I go left you go right." Drannor looked up at Jack who didn't seem convinced.
"Aren't you the one who always shouts at the TV when people have this idea in horror movies?" Jack asked.
Drannor nodded. "But they're usually just human, don't have the experience we have. Plus one of them doesn't always have a gun hidden away on their person that The Doctor doesn't know about." He looked pointedly at Jack.
Jack nodded. "Fine, but what about you? You don't have a sword anymore Drannor."
Drannor smiled at Jack then walked over to an unlit golden torch on the wall, he pulled it off. "Well I have this, not as good as a sword, but I've handled a mace before and this is a similar shape. So see you soon." He saluted Jack before heading down the left corridor.
Jack sighed and took his path down the right corridor.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Drannor went down twists and turns, sometimes having to backtrack after going down a dead end, eventually, he ended up in a large painted room, and in the center was a rectangular granite box. It was rather large and had engravings all over it. He slowly paced around it taking in the detail of the cravings, the top of the box was ajar, and since Drannor was the curious type he decided to pull himself up onto the lid so he could look through the opening.
Inside was an empty granite sarcophagus shaped like a man along with piles of what looked like strips of cloth and painted parchment. Drannor wondered now if they weren't in a temple but an elaborate tomb and since there seemed to be nothing glittering in the sarcophagus perhaps grave robbers had been, but why would they take the body as well?
He climbed down from the top of the sarcophagus. At least since this appeared to be a dead end, perhaps it meant that The Doctor and Rose were the other way that Jack went. Just as he stepped back he felt a strong hand gripping his shoulder, he quickly turned expecting to see one of his friends or at worst a grave robber. But neither of those things was now in front of him, a corpse, a moving corpse, mummified human remains stood there.
Drannor before he could even think about what he was seeing swung the golden torch he still had firmly in his grasp, hitting the moving corpse in the head and sending its head sailing off into one of the walls.
"Oh shit," Drannor muttered when the body of the mummy kept a tight grip on him before picking him up by his shirt like he weighed nothing, then flinging him across the room. He groaned as he smacked against one of the stone walls, his flashlight falling from his other hand and rolling to the doorway. "Why can't the Tardis ever drop us off somewhere nice without anything that wants to kill us?" He muttered as he watched the body of the mummy stumble over to its head.
He forced himself to get up and ran for the doorway, he quickly ducked down and grabbed the flashlight as he did. Then he ran as fast as he could he could hear the creature stumbling down the hall after him, the dragging of its feet being accompanied by strangled groaning. Drannor tried to remember the way back to the Tardis but unfortunately, he ended up at one of the many dead ends he found earlier also unfortunately for Drannor the mummy could move very fast, especially for a corpse.
He pressed his back to the wall and lifted the torch in his hands, ready to fight off the creature, as it approached him and made to grab for him, he swung aiming for its head again. The creature merely grabbed the torch and pulled it from Drannor's grasp, throwing it away down the hall.
Drannor was now in a grapple with the corpse that seemed determined to go for his throat, its clawing hands grasped at the elf. Drannor moved his leg up and kicked as hard as he could, getting the mummy in the stomach. Instead of sending the corpse flying his leg merely went through, so now he wasn't only cornered but he was also hopping on one leg as his other leg was stuck halfway through a corpse. "Oh just great, I swear if this is how I die, I'm gonna haunt the Tardis and be such a pain in the ass."
As he struggled his elbow pushed hard against one of the snake carvings on the wall, suddenly there was a grinding sound and the ground underneath him suddenly disappeared, a scream left Drannor and he managed to grip the edge of the floor at the last second, meaning he had to let go of his flashlight, sending it clattering to the ground that was now very far from his feet. The Corpse was free from his leg but was now gripped tightly to his waist and sinking its rotten nails into Drannor's waist, whilst its rotted brown teeth sunk into Drannor's thy.
Drannor cried out in pain as he started to desperately kick at the corpse with his free leg whilst looking down. Down below the torch had lit up hundreds of pointed metal spikes along with impaled bodies in various states of decay all of which appeared to be moving and suffering as they tried to free themselves. Drannor decided then that it would be best to try and ignore the pain from the mummy attacking him, he needed to pull himself up or he'd end up like one of the corpses below him.
He huffed as he started to try and lift himself over the ledge, every time he would get close the corpse would tighten its grip on him and tug, whilst raking its teeth across his flesh. "For the love of all the gods let go!" Drannor cried out in frustration.
He'd made no progress and he knew he wouldn't be able to hold on for much longer, with one last kick putting all of his strength into it, he managed to kick the mummy off of him, well most of it. Unfortunately, the head was still attached to his thy and it didn't seem like it planned to stop biting anytime soon. But he could now get over the ledge and back into the corridor.
Once Drannor had managed to crawl away from the trapdoor he'd fallen down, he laid on his back panting and then tried to pull the mummy's head from his leg, but it wouldn't budge. He sighed "Right one problem dealt with, now I need to find my way back to the Tardis in the pitch black with a stupid head of a stupid corpse that won't let go."
Drannor managed to stand a cry leaving his lips as the pain from the corpse latched to his thy worsened as he stood. He pressed a hand against the wall left to him and started to limp down the corridor, while he held his other hand out in front of him. He hoped that no more mummies were walking about in the darkness and that he'd soon come across the glow of the Tardis or one of his friends.
As he continued to walk following the left wall the mummy's head on his leg kept moaning ever so often and grinding its teeth against his thy. "Oh, would you shut up!" Drannor snapped at the head at one point. "Or even better let go." He grumbled. That's when Drannor heard a wonderful sound and saw a light shining down the hall at him.
"Drannor? What are you doing out here?." The Doctor's voice called out to him and Drannor ran in the direction of the light.
As soon as he got to The Doctor he threw his arms around him and pressed a quick kiss to his lips, without even thinking. He was just so relieved "Oh, I'm so glad to see you, Me and Jack went looking for you and Rose."
The Doctor was rather taken aback by the sudden kiss but was soon too distracted to give it a second thought. "Drannor?" He said as he shined the torch down at Drannor's thigh onto the mummy's head.
"yeah?" The elf asked with a smile, taking every inch of The Doctor in with his eyes.
"You do realize that you've got a head stuck to your leg?" The Doctor spoke as he looked back at Drannor's face.
"Yep, kind of hard to ignore. Thinking of giving him a name since it seems he's not for letting go." Drannor stated and looked down at the head. He then looked back at The Doctor. "I'm guessing you've lost Rose and haven't come across Jack?"
The Doctor grabbed Drannor's hand and started walking with him. "I haven't lost her, we just got split up. And no I haven't seen Captain Flash. He's probably too busy trying to flirt with the mummies"
Drannor chuckled. "Now that would be a sight, with any luck Jack has found Rose and brought her back to the Tardis."
The time lord nodded in response as they continued to walk down the hall, relief flooded them as they saw the familiar glow of the Tardis around the corner. "Right, let's get you inside and if Rose and Jack aren't back I'll go look for them."
"You can't go on your own just let me patch myself up a bit and I'll look with you." Drannor pouted stubbornly and The Doctor sighed. Just then they both heard the sound of Rose and Jack shouting from behind them.
"Good Drannor you found the Doc! Now run, we've pissed off the locals!" Jack said as he ran pulling Rose along next to him who looked worse for wear, from what Drannor could make out with the glance he gave her, before he and the Doctor started running, Rose's clothes were almost shredded and she was covered in dirt and blood, much like Drannor.
He was hoping as he ran that the dammed head would lose grip and fall off his thy, but the elf was having no such luck. The only blessing was the adrenaline numbing his pain and he got quite the dose when he looked back briefly to see around a dozen corpses chasing them with swords, spears, and other weapons.
They all ran for the Tardis, The Doctor quickly opened the door and ushered them all inside. As he went to slam the door shut one of the corpse's arms blocked the door from shutting and reached out for The Doctor.
Drannor rushed over and started to help The Doctor push the door closed and keep it closed as more corpses on the other side pushed. "Jack! Rose! Help The Doctor hold the door!" Drannor spoke quickly and frantically, as soon as the two were pushing against the door he moved away and ran over to the console, looking for anything that could help. It was then that he spotted a mallet. He grabbed it tightly and rushed back over and began hitting the arm as hard as he could. It took four hard hits before the bone made a brittle snapping sound. The Tardis door closed tightly and the arm that Drannor had snapped off writhed on the floor.
All four of them were panting now and they all looked at each other. The Doctor was the first to speak. "Right, I think it's time for us to go."
