A.n I own Nothing

Whelp, here it is the first part of the first One Piece film. Chapters will take a bit longer to come out as there is a lot to cover in the films. Also, I won't be doing all of them. Just my favourites and the ones that are easy to adapt. Also, films that retell story arcs like Desert Princess and Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Sakura won't be covered as they are just abridged versions of the the Alabaster and Drum Island arcs; both of which have already been covered.

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm glow across the Thousand Sunny's deck. The Straw Hat Pirates lounged on the ship, each immersed in their own pursuits. Usopp and Chopper fished off the port side, Robin occupied a deck chair with a table and an umbrella next to her, engrossed in a book. Franky, sunglasses glinting, tinkered away on a gadget he'd been working on. Zoro leaned against the mast, observing, while La Volpe trained Connor. Luffy sprawled out on the deck, and Nami stood at the front of the ship, gazing out over the horizon with binoculars and a normal compass in hand.

They had entered the Florian Triangle earlier that morning. Nami had pulled out her old compass from the East Blue, and true to La Volpe's advice, it stopped spinning wildly and pointed north again. Luffy, with his usual adventurous spirit, wanted to find a famous ghost ship that haunted the Florian Triangle, but Nami was more concerned about navigating this stretch of sea safely and was trying to locate the Islands that La Volpe had mentioned. However, without a proper map, it proved challenging.

"Zoro, I'm hungry," Luffy complained.

"Complain to Pervy Cook," Zoro shot back.

"Sanji, food," Luffy moaned.

"No way, you just had lunch," Sanji retorted, coming out of the kitchen carrying a drink. "Here's your drink, Robin-Chan,"

"Thank you, Sanji," Robin smiled sweetly.

"But I'm still hungry," Luffy whined.

"I'll make some afternoon snacks in a couple of hours," Sanji promised.

"Sanji, may I have a sandwich, please?" Robin requested.

"Right away!" Sanji responded and dashed back into the kitchen.

"No fair, how come he always gives you and Nami food," Luffy pouted.

Robin chuckled and went back to her reading. With nothing else to do, Luffy scanned the deck. Not wanting to bother La Volpe and Connor, he wandered over to Nami.

"Hi Nami, what are you doing?" Luffy asked. "Did you find something to eat or the ghost ship yet?"

"I'm looking for any sign of those Islands La Volpe mentioned," Nami answered. "But without a heading, it's difficult,"

"Why are you looking for Islands? You're supposed to take us to the ghost ship with the Skeleton," Luffy pointed out.

"Luffy," Nami said, getting annoyed. "For the fifth time, we need to find the islands to get information about the skeleton,"

"But that will take forever," Luffy whined.

"You're the one who decided to go the longer route instead of going straight through," Nami reminded him, although it had been Nami tricking the rubber captain into making that call as, according to La Volpe, it was the safer route.

"Yeah, because I want to find the skeleton," Luffy reasoned. "That's what you should be looking for,"

"So why are you complaining about time when we are following your decisions?" Nami shot back. "We're not going to find the skeleton if we don't get information on the ghost ship first,"

"So find the information, it's not that hard to work out," Luffy said innocently.

Nami's eye twitched, and she whirled around, punching Luffy in the face before attempting to force the captain overboard.

"Hey, Nami, what are you doing?" Luffy panicked.

"WHAT AM I DOING! YOU'RE THE ONE BEING AN IDIOT! YOU THINK NAVIGATING IS EASY, AND IT'S JUST A CASE OF FINDING WHAT YOU WANT!"

The argument drew the attention of the rest of the crew, and no one noticed a small, short-range sailboat approaching the Sunny from the starboard side. Three men climbed aboard and looked very confused at the commotion before sneaking in to take a look around. La Volpe glanced over his shoulder and let out a sigh.

"Connor, go inform our captain that we have unwanted guests," La Volpe instructed.

Connor nodded and ran up to Nami and Luffy.

"Hey, Nami," Connor said as he approached. Nami stopped trying to push Luffy overboard, and the two looked at Connor. "La Volpe says we're being boarded,"

"WHAT!" Nami cried out and dashed down to the deck. Luffy followed, just in time to see the three men come back out with sacks over their shoulders.

"Hey, you, whatever you took, give it back right now, and maybe I won't have these idiots beat you all up," Nami declared, gesturing to the crew behind her.

"Don't tell me what to do, witch," Zoro scowled.

"I wonder what they have in those sacks," Robin stated, not looking up from her book. "We don't have any gold or money,"

"Heh, like you could. We're taking this stuff now you can have this for it," one of the men said and threw a small sack at Nami's feet. Inside were some rice balls, which Luffy dived for.

"Food, thanks, you're good guys," Luffy cheered and started eating.

"Luffy, they are stealing from us," Nami pointed out.

"Eh, it's fine," Luffy shrugged it off as the boat began to pull away.

"They took tonight's dinner with them," La Volpe stated.

"WHAT! OI, YOU LOT, GIVE BACK MY DINNER!" Luffy shouted and jumped up and rushed over to the starboard side. He stretched out his arm and grabbed the smaller craft's mast.

"GOMU-GOMU…," The three men were terrified and pulled out their pistols and began to open fire, but the bullets just bounced off Luffy's rubbery body as Luffy barreled towards them.

"ROCKET!"

The rubber captain shot towards the small craft, crashed through the mast, and into the small cabin, causing the mast to collapse and destroy the cabin in the process. It was lucky the small ship was still standing. On the Sunny, the rest of the crew had gathered to watch with a mix of bored and amused expressions on their faces.

"NOW GIVE ME BACK MY DINNER!" Luffy demanded.

"Well, that is one way to deal with thieves," La Volpe commented.

"Aren't you a thief, though?" Chopper pointed out.

"Yes, but I don't get caught," La Volpe stated.

The three men moved away from Luffy as quickly as they could, shaking in fear as Luffy picked up the sack and tossed them back onto the Sunny. Once they were all back on board the Straw Hats' ship, Luffy noticed that under the rubble and dazed was a boy who looked around Connor's age.

"Huh? Who are you?" Luffy asked and picked the boy up by the scruff of his shirt.

"What the hell is this, man? Did he eat a Devil Fruit like El-Drago?" one of the men quivered.

"El-Drago?" Luffy asked.

"Oi, Luffy-Bro, be careful," Franky shouted and pointed up ahead. "There's a ship approaching,"

There was a ship indeed approaching. On the Bow of the ship was a is a dark skinned, red-haired man that resembling a lion in appearance, he wore shoulder pad armor made of gold, with a white shirt underneath. The man saw the two ships and took a deep breath.

"Oh no, Captain El-Drago is going to use it," one of the three thieves panicked, and they all jumped overboard. "Swim for your lives!"

"Huh? Use what?" Luffy asked in confusion.

He got his answer as El-Drago gathered energy deep inside him and, taking a deep breath, he screamed. A beam of pure energy shot out of his mouth, letting loose a destructive wave as it collided with the small boat. The waves parted as the Sunny was tossed aside. Luffy and the boy on the boat jumped into the sea instead, and Zoro, seeing this, dived in after them.

In the chaotic aftermath of El-Drago's devastating attack, the sea churned with fury as the once calm waters transformed into a tempest of destruction. The Sunny, caught in the violent wave, was tossed aside like a mere plaything. On the deck, the Straw Hat crew grappled with the sudden upheaval, trying to maintain their footing.

Nami, her eyes scanning the horizon, quickly assessed the situation. She spotted El-Drago gathering even more energy within him, his formidable aura intensifying. The air crackled with the ominous power he wielded, and the sea seemed to respond to his malevolence.

"Hold on, everyone! Brace for another impact!" Nami shouted.

The crew didn't have time to react as the second attack, more potent and devastating than the first, erupted from El-Drago's mouth. A searing beam of energy lanced through the air, heading directly for the beleaguered Thousand Sunny. The crew, desperately clinging to whatever they could to keep they're footing.

As El-Drago's second devastating attack collided with the Thousand Sunny, the impact reverberated through the ship. Wood splintered, and the vessel groaned under the strain. The crew, already struggling to maintain their footing, now faced an even more perilous situation.

Connor, Franky, Robin, and Chopper, positioned on the deck, were caught off guard by the violent tremors. The force of the impact sent them flying across the deck, while Nami and Usopp couldn't hold on and we're thrown from the ship.

Franky, despite his sturdy frame, was slammed against the mast, Robin, usually graceful, lost her balance, crashing into the ship's railings. Chopper, in his compact form, tumbled across the deck, unable to maintain his footing crashing head first into the wall. Connor, was flung against the ship's railing and his forehead cracked against the hard wood. La Volpe, held his ground, but the force of El Dragos attack and violent sea was making it hard even for him to maintain his balance.

The sea, now charged with the aftermath of El-Drago's attack, roared with a vengeance.

El-Drago stood on his ship, smirking, satisfied with the havoc he had wrought, observed the unfolding mayhem. His dark eyes gleamed with a predatory satisfaction as he watched the battered ship being swept away.

With Luffy and Zoro.

Zoro and Luffy emerged from the water, gasping for air. The sea had turned strangely heavy, sapping Luffy's usually boundless strength and making him feel like a lead weight in Zoro's grasp. The two struggled to stay afloat, the weight of the ocean seemingly conspiring against them.

As they broke the surface, Zoro, with considerable effort, he flung both himself and Luffy onto a long piece of drifting wood, the remnants of some unfortunate ship. Water streamed from their clothes as they lay there, panting and recovering from the ordeal.

"Phew, I thought I was gonna die!" Luffy shouted. While taking deep breaths of air.

"You nearly did. What was that?" Zoro exclaimed, still catching his breath. Zoro pulled himself onto the driftwood and scanned the horizon for any sign of danger or the Sunny but saw neither.

"I feel heavier like I weight my back," Luffy noted. Zoro pulled Luffy onto the wood to get the Devil fruit user out of the water. As he did he realised that there a small boy with dark spiky hair. clinging to Luffys back.

He wore a tan-brown waistcoat over a light yellow shirt. He had brown, shorts tied with an olive green sash that was slightly torn and brown shoes. He also wore as well as a black cape with a flame design on the bottom tied in a bow at the front

Zoro blinked the kid looked older than Connor, though most kids did due to Connors smaller and stature. Zoro frowned watching the kid catch his breath, he'd seen the boy on the boat with those that tired to steal from them and called the one who attacked the Sunny Captain. Zoro personally didn't want to hurt the boy, he had a soft spot for children. But if this boy was an emenery he and Luffy would have to deal with him in some way and throwing him back into the sea did not appeal to the swordsman at all.

"Huh, who's this?" Luffy asked.

"I think he's one of those pirates from earlier?" Zoro responded "he was on their boat after all,"

"You've got to be kidding! You dare say that to the great pirate Tobio?!" the kid retorted, suddenly jumping up on the driftwood, energy returned and trying to assert his presence.

"Great pirate Tobio?" Luffy questioned, squinting at the newcomer. Eyeing off the boy. He certainly didn't look like a great pirate.

"That's right! I'm on a journey to find the treasure island, but I was caught by El'Drago and forced to work," Tobio announced with pride.

Zoro's eyes narrowed. "They forced you to work?" he asked in a deadly tone.

"Huh..uh…I mean…HEY!" Tobio started but shouted in surprise when Zoro suddenly grabbed Tobio's arm and yanked him forward. Zoro ignored Tobio's protests as he pulled up the boy's sleeves to get a look at his arms, focusing just below the shoulder. The swordsman found nothing but bare skin. After checking both arms, Zoro let Tobio go, and the boy stumbled back a bit.

"What was that for?!" Tobio demanded.

"Do you have any scars or burns?" Zoro asked seriously.

"OF COURSE I DON'T!" Tobio yelled annoyed. "DON'T JUST GRAB PEOPLE AND LOOK FOR THAT STUFF!"

Zoro breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hey, Zoro, why'd you grab him?" Luffy asked.

"I was just making sure this kid wasn't like Connor," Zoro claimed. "Looks like he's not,"

Luffy tilted his head but didn't say anything. Zoro continued, "So this El'drago captured you?" Luffy asked Tobio, getting back on track.

"Ah, no, that's not it. I pretended to join them to find the gold island..," Tobio rambled, his voice carried away by the wind.

"Gold Island?" Luffy asked excitedly. "Is it made of gold like the city in the sky?"

"City in…What are you going on about?" Tobio asked confused. "Gold Island is supposedly where the legendary pirate Woononn hid his vast fortune,"

Luffy had stars in his eyes on hearing this. Suddenly, Zoro's stomach grumbled.

"I'm starving," Zoro interjected, rubbing his stomach, his attention already waning from Tobio's tale. The immediate concern was hunger.

"Huh, me too. Looks like our stomachs think alike," Luffy laughed.

"That would explain where your brain went," Zoro muttered.

"Is there any food around here?" Luffy inquired, scanning the seemingly endless sea. Hunger, like the call of adventure, was a powerful motivator for the Straw Hat captain.

"Hey, are you even listening to me?" Tobio protested, seemingly hurt by the lack of interest and attention.

Suddenly, both Luffy and Zoro caught a whiff of an amazing aroma wafting towards them. Their eyes met, and without exchanging words, they tore pieces off the driftwood, fashioning makeshift paddles to propel themselves towards the source of the tantalizing smell.

Fueled by their insatiable hunger, Luffy and Zoro paddled with such strength and speed that the small driftwood they were using as a boat jet-skied and bounced across the ocean. Tobio had to hang on for dear life as the speeds the two Straw Hats were rowing at threatened to pull him off. Even though the two had no compass or any form of navigation, they were able to make their way to a small fishing boat bobbing gently on the waves in the middle of the vast sea. The sun painted the horizon in warm hues as the two pirates approached the vessel. As soon as they got there, an old man stepped out, having heard their approach.

"Hm, what's all the commotion out here?" the old man grumbled, eyeing the figures. "Tobio?" he questioned as he recognized the young lad latched onto the driftwood.

"Grandpa Ganzo, heh, nice to see you again," Tobio greeted, rubbing the back of his head shyly.

Zoro and Luffy jumped on the old man's boat. It turned out to be a travelling Udon shop, and they quickly helped themselves to the food in the trays.

"How many times are you going to run away before you are satisfied?" Ganzo scolded.

"Grandpa?" Zoro questioned, looking up from his plate. He turned and faced Tobio with a scowl. "You've got a grandfather, and you're out joining pirate crews? What is wrong with you!"

"Aww, Tobio is so lucky, Shanks didn't let me join his crew when I was his age," Luffy pouted. "It's not fair,"

"I think Shanks may have been more concerned that Garp would come after him if he let you on his ship," Zoro muttered.

"Hmm…now that you mention it, Shanks's crew did always leave in a hurry every time Gramps came to visit," Luffy recalled. "And they came back after he left,"

Ganzo let out a sigh. "Tobio, you always run away and then come back after a few days later," the old man chided, though a twinkle of affection softened his stern expression.

"Whatever, gramps! I'm here because my underlings were hungry, so I thought I'd feed them some oden," Tobio explained, a hint of mischief in his eyes.

"Underlings?" Ganzo asked and glanced at Luffy and Zoro. Scolded, observing the duo's uninvited feast on the boat. "Hey, what are you two doing to my food! Don't eat without permission!"

Ignoring the scolding, the duo continued devouring the large serving of oden until the old man's protests made them halt mid-bite. Ganzo, unfazed by their unusual appetite, retreated inside his cabin and emerged with fresh plates of steaming oden.

"Those ones from out there were a few days old. Let me take those plates from..," the old man started, attempting to retrieve the old plates, but a pair of growls from Luffy and Zoro made him pause. They finished the old oden before proceeding to devour the fresh servings.

The taste was exquisite, and tears welled up in their eyes as they savored the flavors.

"Delicious!" they exclaimed simultaneously, wiping away the tears of culinary joy. Ganzo stared at them in bewilderment, witnessing their heartfelt appreciation, couldn't help but smile.

"I've never had such good oden before. Your grandpa's cooking is the second best in the world!" Luffy praised between mouthfuls, genuine admiration in his voice.

"Second best?" Ganzo asked, more curious than offended.

"Yeah, nothing beats Sanji's cooking," Luffy claimed and continued to stuff his face.

"I don't know, I think we should replace curly brow with this old geezer," Zoro grinned. The Swordsman looked up at Ganzo "So you're this kid's grandfather?"

"I am; Tobio is a rather rambunctious boy," Ganzo agreed.

"You need to keep a better eye on him; he was with some really dangerous people, and there aren't many who won't take advantage of a kid on their own," Zoro warned.

"I know, but he doesn't listen to me. Keeps going on about wanting to join Woonon's Pirate crew," Ganzo sighed. "He leaves and then comes back,"

"Why would he leave?" Luffy asked. "My Gramps is mean and doesn't cook. I know if he'd made me meat as good as this Oden I probably would have followed in his footsteps,"

"Because Gramps has no vision; he's just a stubborn old man. Sure, his oden is good, but that's all. He commits himself to this oden every single day and for what? There's never any customers; most of the time, we go weeks without seeing anyone out here, and he barely charges anything to those that do stop by. I'm tired of this poor life," Tobio complained, his voice filled with frustration.

"What's wrong with that? Nothing wrong with working hard and doing what you love," Zoro said seriously.

"Ahhh, that was good," said Luffy with a satisfied sigh as he finished the oden on multiple trays.

"Ehh, there's no more!" Zoro panicked as he noticed that not only were the trays empty but so was his plate. Likely eaten by the monster known as his captain's appetite. "Luffy, damn you, I only have one plate of oden!"

Ganzo wanted nothing to do with fighting, so he started to whip up a fresh plate of oden for Zoro.

"Well, I'm never going to be a man like my grandpa. I want to be a great pirate like Woonon!" Tobio declared, turning to Luffy and Zoro with determination. "Then I'll be rich and can have anything I want,"

"Woonon? Who's that?" Luffy inquired, intrigued by the mention of a potentially great pirate.

"Here you go," Ganzo said as he placed a freshly made Oden in front of Zoro. Luffy eyed it hungrily.

"I will cut you if you touch it," Zoro threatened and pulled the plate away from Luffy.

"He's a great pirate who stole a third of the East Blue's wealth," Tobio explained, with admiration in his eyes.

"A third of the East Blue's entire wealth?!" Luffy asked excitedly.

"Yeah, and he fought the marines; he took on 100 battleships single-handedly and won," Tobio continued.

"Amazing, he must be really strong," Luffy responded with his own admiration in his eyes.

"He's the strongest of the strong, and that's why I'm going to join his crew. If I do, then that will make me strong and rich at the same time," Tobio declared.

"You know, I think I've heard of this Woonon," Zoro said, remembering a rumor he overheard when he was a bounty hunter.

"Really?" Tobio asked, "then you heard how great he is,"

"Nah, I heard that he died," Zoro claimed.

"WOONON IS NOT DEAD!" Tobio exclaimed.

"Look, I was a bounty hunter for a couple of years in the East Blue before I joined this idiot," Zoro said, gesturing to Luffy. "I don't recall any pirate named Woonon having an active bounty. The only reason I know the name is I went to an island where the islanders claim they were visited by a pirate named Woonon who gave them a huge amount of gold and then left as soon as he handed it over. Those islanders claim Woonon told them he was headed for the Grand Line intending for it to be his final resting place,"

"That's a lie, those villagers don't know what they're talking about," Tobio insisted.

"He could be here in the Grand Line," Luffy stated.

"Maybe, but Woonon visited that island over almost ten years ago," Zoro said seriously. "A pirate as great as you claim with no active bounty and last seen a decade ago. It's not hard to figure out what happened,"

"Well, that only proves how strong Woonon is if he can survive ten years on the Grand Line," Tobio argued. "Besides, I know where he is already; he's on the Island of Gold. That's where he took all of his riches, where he and his crew live like kings, and that's why I'm going to ask him to join his crew,"

Luffy smirked, already liking this kid's spunk. "Island of Gold, is that nearby?" Luffy asked.

Zoro gave Luffy a look; he knew what was coming next.

"Um, I think so," Tobio answered.

"All right then, I've decided. I'm going to meet this Woonan guy too," Luffy declared.

"He's dead, Luffy," Zoro reminded.

"Well, maybe Woonon's the skeleton on the haunted ship. Let's go to Gold Island and meet him, and if he's a good guy, I'll ask him to join my crew," Luffy smiled.

Tobio and Ganzo gave Luffy a very deadpan look. Neither of them had expected the rubber captain to say something like that. Zoro just let out an exasperated sigh and continued to eat. He was more than familiar with Luffy's recruiting habits and his methods. He almost pitied Woonan as the pirate would now be pestered by Luffy until he agreed.

"Skeleton?" Ganzo asked, dumbfounded. Was he talking about the famous haunted ship that plagued these waters?

"What are you thinking?! Why would Woonan join your crew!?" Tobio jumped up and yelled, insulted. "There is no way someone as great as him would be a subordinate to someone like you,"

"He will because I'm gonna be the King of the Pirates," said Luffy matter-of-factly to his slack-jawed audience.

"King of the pirates?" asked Tobio, shocked.

"Yep, me and my crew are in the Grand Line to find One Piece. And as the King of the pirates, it's only natural that I should have strong men on my crew,"

"Cut the crap!" yelled Tobio, slamming his fist onto the table. "Stop joking around and just say what you want to say! Why don't you just say that I'll never be able to join Woonan's crew!"

"What're you talking about?" asked Luffy, tilting his head in confusion.

"Hey kid, I know it's hard to believe… but he's serious," said Zoro, causing the kid to stare at Zoro. "Luffy never says anything without meaning it 100%,"

"While this conversation is entertaining, don't forget about one very important thing," said Ganzo.

"Yea, and what's that?" asked Luffy.

"Do you guys have any money on you?" said Ganzo in a very serious tone, as Zoro realized they messed up.

"Well, you guys ate: 125 kamodoki, 153 seaweeds, 302 fish balls, 102 white radishes, 148 konjac, 212 eggs, 55 pounds of rice, and 64 gallons of water,"

"I, Ganzo, prepared this oden with my heart and soul, so this will set you back 11 berries. I want you to pay," He said profoundly holding up 2 fingers on each hand.

"11 berries?!" asked Zoro, shocked.

"Is that expensive Zoro?"

"It's cheap. But… we still have no money no money," he said depressed.

"NO MONEY!?"

"Yep!"

"Don't brag about it!"

"I guess I can't help it, umm ah, thanks for the meal. This is a token of my gratitude, keep it," said Luffy as he pulled out a rock out of his pocket that said "I.O.U: Future King of the Pirate (Luffy)," "This is what I did for Makino before I started my Pirate tab,"

Ganzo and Zoro looked at the rock and then at Luffy, with a blank and disbelieving look. If Zoro didn't know his captain as well as he did, he wouldn't have believed Luffy was serious.

"So…you don't have any money," Ganzo stated.

"Nope," Luffy declared proudly.

Ganzo suddenly grabbed both Luffy and Zoro by the shirt and pulled them into the shop where, despite Zoro and Luffy's monstrous strength and power, the Oden shop owner proceeded to rough them up. Tobio just watched and winced as the two pirates were left at the mercy of his grandfather.

Back on the Thousand Sunny

Franky groaned as he came back to consciousness; the blow to the head he'd taken when El Drago had attacked had knocked him out. Even with his cyborg enhancements, he blacked out.

"What happened?" Franky asked, rubbing his head as he came round. He stood up and looked around. He was still on board the Sunny, but it had been damaged somewhat; various parts of the railing had been singed, the main sail had been almost completely destroyed and burned away, and that was only the damage he could see.

He spotted Robin holding her arm and leaning against the starboard railing. He also spotted both Sanji and Connor lying on the deck near the Port side. Both were unmoving and had blood splatters on their foreheads. Sanji held Connor in his chest as if he had used his own body to protect the boy from something.

"Ah, you're awake, good," a voice said from above.

Franky took a few steps back and saw that La Volpe was at the helm.

"La Volpe-bro? What are you doing up there?" Franky asked.

"Sailing," he responded.

"What happened?" Franky asked.

"We were attacked," La Volpe said seriously. "After the second strike, a third came. I managed to steer the ship to minimize the damage, but it is damaged nonetheless,"

"Damn it, when I find the guy who threatened the Sunny, then I will kick his ass," Franky vowed, enraged.

"You will have your chance, for now, check on the others," La Volpe advised.

Franky nodded and ran to Robin; she was closest and conscious. He bent down next to her.

"Are you alright?" Franky asked.

"I'm alright," Robin answered, however, the way she was holding her arm told a different story.

"That arm doesn't look good," Franky said somberly. As he looked at Robin's arm, it was quivering with just the slightest bit of movement.

"I'm fine, look after Connor," Robin said sternly and stared at both Sanji and Connor from her position on the deck.

Franky moved over to them and checked them out; his eyes narrowed at the damage and tried to wake them both. But neither of them stirred.

"Neither of them is responding," Franky called back over his shoulder. "Where's Chopper?"

"Help meee!" Chopper's voice came from the side. Franky rushed over and saw that Chopper was hanging on by a very thin rope dangling over the ocean. He looked terrified, and Franky pulled him up.

"THANK YOU!" Chopper cried and latched onto Franky.

"Get off, go help them," Franky demanded as he pulled Chopper off his face and pointed at Sanji and Connor.

"OH MY GOSH!" SANJI! CONNOR!" Chopper screamed and leapt into action. He quickly ran over and began to examine the two. Both of them were out cold, and Chopper noted the injuries. Connor had a deep head injury while Sanji had several broken ribs; his entire upper back and side looked like it had been hit with something heavy as there was a lot of bruising, and given how many broken ribs the cook had, Chopper suspected there was some internal bleeding too.

"This is bad; Connor has a head wound and Sanji looks like he's been crushed. There's probably a lot of internal damage too. What happened?" Chopper asked.

"You, Franky, and Connor hit your heads due to the second attack from the beam that came from the other ship. It is likely it was caused by a Devil Fruit user," La Volpe informed.

Chopper looked up at La Volpe. "But how did Sanji get hurt so badly?"

Flashback

After El Drago's attack, Sanji and La Volpe were the only two left standing. Chopper, Franky, Robin, and Connor were all sprawled across the deck in different locations, and Nami and Usopp had been knocked overboard. Sanji would have jumped in after Nami, but he didn't see her below the waves that were churning and running wild thanks to the two large energy attacks.

"ROBIN-CHAWN!" Sanji yelled in panic at seeing his fellow Nakama and ran to her side. "Oi Robin-Chawn, speak to me….what's wrong?" Sanji tried.

"My…arm," Robin managed to get out. Sanji looked down and gently lifted Robin's arm, but the moment he shifted it, she hissed in pain.

"That's not a good sign. Oi Chopper get…," Sanji started but trailed off as he turned around to find Chopper unmoving on the deck. "Are they…" he started but couldn't finish his sentence.

La Volpe, who was kneeling by Connor and looking over him, looked back at him with his eyes glowing yellow. "Worry not, everyone is very much alive," La Volpe assured as he stood up.

Robin and Sanji breathed a sigh of relief. He then looked back at the other ship. "Damn them," he hissed angrily.

"Hey, there's a glowing guy on the other ship," Sanji noticed out of concern.

"Glowing?" La Volpe asked. He stood up and loomed towards El Drago's ship. There was indeed a figure with a glowing aura on the bow. With La Volpe's sight on him, El Drago was glowing red.

"We need to get away from here," La Volpe whispered. "Watch Connor," he said as he dashed past Sanji and ran to the helm. Once he was there, he turned the wheel hard to port.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Sanji demanded.

"We need to move; a third strike is incoming," La Volpe warned.

"A third…" Sanji didn't finish that sentence as a third beam struck the ship, this time it hit dead on. However, since the ship was being turned, it hit the side. The sail was hit and burned up, the parts of the railing broke and splintered, and when the sail was hit, a portion of the upper mast above Connor broke off. The force of impact was so strong that Chopper was sent flying off the ship.

"Shit, Connor," Sanji cried as he leapt to shield the boy from the falling mainsail with his body. But he wasn't able to get out of the way before the sail fell on them. Sanji now lay unmoving under the fallen top mast.

"SANJI!" Robin cried out in horror. She summoned dozens and dozens of arms and pushed the mast off them. However, since one of her arms was hurt, she could only use one. But with the power of the Hana-Hana fruit, it didn't matter.

The mast rolled off them, and Robin stared at the two fearfully. Sanji held Connor close to his chest, but now neither of them was moving

End Flashback.

"The top mast fell on him?" Chopper panicked.

Franky looked up to see a portion of the top mast where the sail hung was indeed missing. He spotted it just off to the side of where Sanji and Connor were lying. He'd need to do some serious repairs on the Sunny.

"How's the helm?" Franky asked La Volpe.

"It is still working, but with a portion of the mast and the sail gone, we are adrift and at the mercy of the currents," La Volpe said.

Franky grinned.

"Not true," he said and walked up to the helm. "Move over a sec,"

La Volpe stepped back, and Franky pushed the lever next to the helm forward. A shift in wood and loud clicking was heard. If the crew were looking, they would have noticed the round areas on the outside of the ship open, and two large water wheels were lowered into the water. Due to the strong currents of the Grand Line, they started turning almost immediately.

"What is that sound?" La Volpe asked.

"It's the emergency dock system. Pull this lever back for the Coup-de-burst. But push it forward for windless travel,"

"Windless travel?" La Volpe asked with curiosity. "A ship relies on wind to move,"

"Not the Sunny, I installed large water wheels that can be lowered into the sea. Even if the Sunny loses its main sails and masts, the ship will still move as if the masts were never gone," Franky explained.

"That… is a very impressive feat of engineering," La Volpe praised.

"Yep, it's not as fast as if we had the sail, but it's good for situations like this," Franky agreed.

"Hmm… it appears I underestimated you. I thought you nothing but a reckless perverse hooligan who could not see past the end of your nose. You have my deepest apologies," La Volpe said sincerely.

"Ah well, you know… wait, pervert?" Franky asked.

"Steer the ship, I will guide you," La Volpe instructed and looked over the horizon. He took a deep breath, and his eyes flashed gold once more. He looked over the ocean, and a yellow trail was headed southeast; he gave the heading to Franky, and the cyborg turned the ship until the Sunny's head was in line with the yellow trail.

While the two were navigating, Chopper was getting to work on patching Sanji and Connor up. He wrapped Connor's head with a bandage, knowing he wouldn't be able to assess if there was any permanent brain damage done until Connor woke up. He focused on Sanji and had to remove the cook's jacket and shirt to treat him. Sanji was much worse off, and once he had done all he could on deck, Chopper shifted into his human form and carried the two inside.

He came out quite a while later and then focused on Robin and Franky.

"Chopper-Bro, how is Sanji-Bro and Little-Bro?" Franky asked, concerned. La Volpe leaned forward also wanting to know.

"I've done what I can; Connors got a bump on the head and a small cut, for him it looks worse than it is. As for Sanji, he's in rough shape. He's got a lot of internal and superficial damage. I'll need to keep a very close eye on him," Chopper said sadly. "I moved them both to the men's quarters,"

"Would it not be better to keep them in your medical bay?" La Volpe asked.

"I only have the one bed; I'm not too worried about Connor as his Brand will more than likely heal his injuries. But if Sanji gets worse, I'll move him," Chopper said. "For now, they're both stable enough to be in the men's quarters,"

"That's a relief," Franky said. La Volpe nodded in agreement.

"Excuse me, Franky, I will be back; I think I need some a soothing drink," La Volpe said, and he walked down to the lower deck and into the ship.

While he was gone, Chopper focused on Robin's arm; it was only dislocated, and once put back, Chopper put it in a sling, warning her not to use it for a few days and if she needed to use her powers only to duplicate her good arm. Robin nodded in thanks.

Chopper then moved onto Franky; the Shipwright claimed he was fine, but Chopper wanted to check just to be safe. The doctor quickly discovered that Franky's statement was true. His cyborg body was much sturdier and heavily resistant to damage that the only injuries Chopper could find were just bumps and some extremely light bruising.

Inside the Sunny, La Volpe made his way past the kitchen, and in quick and silent strides, he headed to the sleeping quarters. Given that Chopper said he would be keeping a close eye on Sanji and Connor due to their injuries, he suspected this would be his only opportunity to catch the two alone. La Volpe entered the sleeping quarters and saw the two unconscious straw hats on opposite bunks. La Volpe moved over and stood looking down at Connor's still form. His eyes flashed gold as he once more activated his eagle sense.

Choppers assessment of Connor was correct, the boy had no serious injuries and the cut had been treated with a stranded Band-Aid. La Volpe was confident the boy would wake up in a couple of hours

Sanji was in a much worse condition. Chopper had been correct in his initial assessment; the cook had several broken ribs, and extensive internal damage. However, he also noted that the cook's pelvis was broken, and there was a pierced lung. Sanji was breathing heavily and wheezing as a result. La Volpe was surprised Chopper didn't pick up on it sooner, but he concluded the pierced lung was likely an unintentional result of moving the cook to a bed.

"He will die without intervention," La Volpe stated. The thief walked over to Sanji and pulled a vial of clear liquid from his pouch. Once he was next to the cook, he bent down and gently lifted the cook's head, tilting it back as he poured the liquid down Sanji's throat.

Once it was all gone, Sanji's breathing started to even out.

"That should do it; at least you will not die now," La Volpe said, and he left the room, closing the door as if he was never there. He headed back to the kitchen, made a quick mug of tea before heading back on deck. He arrived just as Chopper was finishing up with Franky.

On El Drago's ship

Upon the ship's deck, a small meeting unfolded amidst the lingering aftermath of chaos. El Drago, the ostentatious and red-haired leader, reclined on his throne, a haughty air enveloping him. The three bumbling thieves—Danny, Denny, and Donny—stood before him. The thieves had failed to steal anything from the Straw Hat pirates, and they were also annoyed at their captain for nearly hitting them when destroying the Straw Hats' ship.

"What was that! Are you complaining about my daily vocal exercises?" El Drago's voice thundered, his eyebrows furrowing in disdain.

"No, no! O-o-of course not, Boss El Drago," Danny stammered, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

"But your yell almost hit us!" Denny chimed in with an anxious plea.

"It's your own fault for being out there," El Drago claimed. "You three know when I do voice training, so it's hardly my fault if you get hurt because of your own tardiness," El Drago demanded an explanation, his tone a mixture of anger and impatience.

"You could have waited!" the three yelled.

"Waited? Are you saying that I, the great El Drago, should wait for some lowlifes like you? You all should be grateful that I even let you on my ship at all,"

Danny, Denny, and Donny let out a collective sigh.

"So where's my gold?" El Drago asked, bored with the three thieves.

"There wasn't any," Donny remarked, trying to steer the conversation. "There was no treasure of any kind on that ship,"

"Really no gold!?" El Drago asked in surprise.

"No, but we did get some nice jewels and a few large gems from the last island," Donny added.

"Oh, throw them out," El Drago ordered. "If it's not gold, then it's worthless to me,"

"Hold on, Captain, those gems can be traded in for gold," Danny claimed.

"Hmm…okay, we'll keep it for now, but if we don't get gold for them, then we're tossing it," El Drago declared.

Little did El Drago or any of his crew know that the conversation was being watched by two stowaways who were hiding in the shadows. Nami and Usopp had sneaked on board, both having been knocked off the Sunny in El Drago's attack. Fortunately, neither were Devil Fruit users, so, unlike Luffy, they did not sink nor were they left to the mercy of the ocean. But at the same time, with the sea as rough as it was and the Sunny swept away, the only place they could go was El Drago's ship.

So they had climbed on board and were listening to the conversation.

Nami seethed in anger at the disrespect shown to treasure. She fully understood the value of pure gold, but there was nothing wrong with jewels or gemstones either.

"You've got to be kidding me! He can't treat treasure like trash!" she fumed silently, hidden from their sight. "What kind of idiot would throw away perfectly good valuable treasure?"

"Oi Nami, keep it down," Usopp urged.

"How can I keep it down? They're talking about treasure like it's trash," Nami shot back.

"They're going to toss it at the next Island, just take it then," Usopp suggested.

"Oh, believe me, I will be. I'll also take all his gold too," Nami vowed.

Usopp let out a sigh.

"Hey guys, can you see the island yet? The map says we should be getting there by now?" El Drago inquired, oblivious to the brewing storm of Nami's frustration or that she was even there.

"Huh, a map?" Nami asked interested.

El Drago's navigator opened a map and checked the ship's position on the compass.

"Not yet Captain, but I think we'll arrive by the afternoon," the navigator responded.

"Good, I want that gold," El Drago claimed.

"Gold…wait, don't tell me that's a treasure map?" Nami gasped.

"Sounds like it," Usopp agreed.

A greedy smile formed on Nami's face. "Alright, let's hide until they land," Nami advised. "Once we get there, we take everything from this ship, steal the map, and find that gold before this guy can,"

"Or we could just slip off the ship quietly and wait for the others to pick us up," Usopp countered.

Nami whipped around and grabbed him by the shirt.

"Listen up, that treasure is mine and mine alone. I am not going to let some wannabe cat man take it from me, got it," Nami said. "Now you're going to help me get what is rightfully mine,"

Usopp nodded. "Okay, okay, we'll get the treasure," he said, knowing exactly how unstable Nami could become when it came to money. "But how are you going to get the map off them?"

"Oh, don't worry, I already have a plan for that," Nami assured. "We'll enact it as soon as we reach land,"

She let Usopp go and headed into the ship. "For now, let's find a place to hide and lay low,"

Usopp reluctantly followed. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" he sighed.

Usopp followed Nami further into the ship. They each found hiding places and entered a closet that could be locked. With her skills, it was easy for Nami to lock the closet. The only things in the closet were different types of clothes for cooler climate zones. Given that they were currently in a spring climate zone, hiding amongst winter coats was perfect, as no one would need to open this particular closet. Usopp, however, chose a barrel to hide in.

After hiding for about two hours, the stowaway pirates felt the ship stop moving. Not long after, the crew came down to the supply room where Nami and Usopp were hiding. Peering through a small opening, Nami watched El Drago's crew gather supplies and items needed for exploration. They also picked up the barrel that Usopp had chosen to hide in and carried it away. None of the pirates even looked in the direction of where she was hiding.

Nami mentally groaned. "Idiot," she hissed quietly. This was exactly why she had chosen a closet with winter gear to hide in. Once the El Drago pirates had left, Nami came out of hiding and discreetly followed them. When she got on deck, she watched El Drago and his crew leave the ship. Those who remained behind to guard it didn't notice Nami sneak past them.

On the beach, the pirates carrying the barrel put it down. Once they did, Usopp's legs sprang out from the bottom, and he began to try and sneak away. However, he ran straight into El Drago, who was speaking with Denny and Donny. When the barrel bumped into him, El Drago looked at it and destroyed the barrel with a single blow. With his hiding place exposed, Usopp stared up at El Drago in fear.

Usopp took a couple of steps back, but the rest of El Drago's crew had gathered, and he found himself caught between the lion-like captain and his crew.

"Who are you?" El Drago asked.

"Me, I am the Great Captain Usopp," Usopp declared. He had nowhere to run, so Usopp defaulted to his best skill: lies. "Haven't you heard of me?"

"Nope," El Drago responded.

"Great Captain... does that mean he's here for the treasure too?" Donny asked.

"Treasure... that's right, I am here to find the treasure. They don't call me Captain Usopp, treasure hunter extraordinaire for nothing, you know," Usopp lied.

"I see. Gorashi," El Drago called, and he flicked a few gold coins into the sand. "Kill him,"

A large Native American swordsman walked towards the front of the crowd. He bent down, picked up the gold coins, and examined them. A smile formed on his face as he drew his sword and took a step towards Usopp.

"Wait, wait, wait! If you kill me, you won't find the treasure, ever!" Usopp tried desperately. "What? Why?!"

"Wait, that worked... oh well, best to just roll with it," Usopp thought to himself.

"Do you know where Woonon's treasure is?" Denny asked.

"Woonon... oh yes, of course I do. See, Woonon and I were best friends, and he told me how to find it. That's why I am here," Usopp said with confidence and pride.

"Wow, you're Woonon's friend. Wonderful! What kind of treasure does he have?" El Drago asked eagerly. He very clearly believed Usopp's lies, and judging from the looks that El Drago's crew were giving him, they did too.

"He had multitudes of treasure chests filled with diamonds, rubies, and even sapphires!" Usopp answered, sweating nervously as he told his sweet lies.

"Diamonds and Rubies?" asked El Drago.

"Of course, I can find all of those,"

"Kill him!" he said to the swordsman who stepped forward with a blade that was much bigger than Usopp.

"What? Why?" the sniper panicked.

"Because there's only one thing that matters in this world... GOLD!" he said, purring like a cat as he rubbed his golden fingernails.

"Uh, why yes, g-gold, of course! Woonon has lots of that too. He was a famous pirate after all, so it stands to reason that he would have precious gems as well as a mountain of gold!" Usopp clarified.

"Boss, that does make sense," Donny agreed. "After all, many treasure hoards we've found have had precious gemstones in them,"

"Hmm… good point," El Drago agreed.

"Where is it, Woonon's treasure?" Gorashi demanded.

"Ah… I need a treasure map to find the gold," Usopp said.

"Huh? But didn't you say you knew where it was?" Denny asked.

"I do, but I've never been to this island before, so without some way to get my bearings or a clue, I won't be able to find it. No map, no gold," Usopp claimed.

"Oh, in that case. Here," said Donny, handing the map to Usopp. "Captain El Drago couldn't decipher it, and we couldn't figure it out either,"

"Alright, then let's take a look," Usopp said, as he opened the map up.

The map was indeed a map of the island, and Usopp noted that there were coordinates that led to this island. There were a few key features drawn on the map and words written on the lower half.

"Let's see… The great Pirate Woonon's greatest treasures sleep on this Island…" Usopp read aloud. "To find where the treasure sleeps, look to a hill from the south if the whale's tail faces west…" Usopp trailed off as the line ended abruptly.

"It stops just there, and then goes onto the next clue, which also cuts off halfway through. We haven't been able to figure it out,"

"The tail is facing east," Usopp muttered.

"What was that?" El Drago asked.

"If a whale is facing or swimming west, then wouldn't its tail be facing east because it's behind it," Usopp explained.

A look of dumbfounded realization formed on all of El Drago's crew.

"Oh…I guess it would be. But what does that have to do with gold?" El Drago asked.

"Well, if the map says the whale faces west, then the treasure would be in the opposite direction," Usopp responded.

"AHHHH! SO THAT'S WHAT THE MAP MEANS!" El Drago cried out.

"To think we spent weeks trying to figure it out," Donny said, impressed.

"So they're just idiots then. Good to know," Usopp thought to himself.

"Alright, guys, let's go find us a whale," El Drago declared.

"But don't whales live in the ocean?" Gorashi pointed out.

"Oh yeah, they do…hmmm…Oi, treasure hunter, how do we find a whale?" El Drago asked.

"It's not a real whale. The map shows a large hill with a whale on it. It's more than likely some kind of landmark that looks like a whale," Usopp claimed and pointed on the map.

"That makes sense," Donny said. "Where is this hill?"

"Uh…to the south," Usopp answered. "It's drawn on the map and in the writing. How did you guys not figure this out? It's not that hard,"

"Forget that, let's go find Woonon's treasure," El Drago claimed. His crew cheered, and they headed off, taking Usopp with them further inwards of the island.

"Well, I can't help him now," Nami shrugged from the ship. She'd been watching and listening to the whole exchange and turned away with a greedy look on her face, lowering her binoculars. "Not when there is treasure on this ship to steal,"

Nami took a few steps forward and then paused.

"Then again…maybe if I follow them from a distance…and get a chance to steal that map…" Nami said as she looked back over to where Usopp and El Drago's crew had gone. "Shouldn't be too hard with Usopp distracting them,"

She'd heard the whole conversation; El Drago and his crew really were idiots if Usopp could figure out a simple map and they couldn't. The captain seemed dumber than Luffy, and that was an impressive feat on its own. Also, she doubted El Drago's crew wouldn't leave unless they had Woonon's treasure, in which case, if she stole the map, then she could get Woonon's gold and come back for the treasure on the pirate's ship.

She didn't have anywhere to store El Drago's gold, even if she did take it, as the Sunny was not currently on the island. So, in hindsight, leaving El Drago's treasure on his ship was the safest place for it at the moment. Making a decision, Nami hopped off El Drago's ship and followed the large group from a distance. After all, two lots of pirate treasure were better than one.
