Summary: There was no undoing the past. To hope so was nothing more than wistful thinking. Kagome didn't mind whatever present they shared, just as long as they were together. Time after time again, she's always lost. Remembering it all took a toll on her mind. Hopefully, they would understand why she made such choices. Mikey can't bear the weight of losing her.

Pairing: Mikey/Kagome

Chapter One

A familiar chime caused her to stir from her sleep. The shrill sound cut through the otherwise silent, dark room. She scrunched her face up some before finally opening her eyes. It took a second for her vision to focus on the ceiling, its pattern blending into a blur in the dark. For a moment she wondered what had woken her up before she heard the chime again, recognizing it now that she had some semblance of consciousness.

It was her phone.

She glanced over where it was plugged up on its charger, wondering briefly if she should bother with the hassle of trying to get it, or if she just wanted to deal with the caller later. It rang again and she sighed, brushing dark bangs from her face as she sat up- or tried to, at least.

The arms around her tightened when she showed signs of moving, the figure in bed with her moving closer to her- if that was even possible. He already had his face pressed against her chest.

Kagome sighed, moving her hand up to gently card her fingers through his platinum hair.

"Mikey, c'mon it could be important," she sighed, knowing that he was awake enough to process her words. Her speaking to him did the trick, however, and he eventually lifted his head from her breasts. Dark eyes peered down at her, dark circles making him look exhausted.

She knew he hadn't slept the entire time he was in bed with her. She sighed, wanting to voice her concerns, but she kept them to herself. Her phone rang again, and he reached for it. He glanced at the name and rejected the call. He dropped her phone back on the table with a bit more force than necessary, not caring if he broke it in the process. If he did, he'd just get her a new one

"You getting enough rest is more important," he remarked when the phone didn't start ringing again- the caller seeming to get the unspoken message loud and clear. That same hand soon returned to her, cold digits smoothing over the curve of her stomach as he leaned to rest his head back on her chest. "Go back to sleep for me, yeah, pretty girl?"

Kagome glanced at the clock, reading the time. It was a little after five in the morning. She knew he'd be leaving soon, so she didn't exactly want to go back to sleep yet. She threaded her other hand into his hair, absentmindedly playing with the strands.

These moments were moments that she savored the most.

They always seemed so fleeting, and that fact only made her cling to them a bit tighter. She wished this moment could stay forever, but it was nothing more than just that: A wish. One that was destined to go ungranted.

She didn't wish for much anymore. All she wanted was just a little bit of peace and happiness. It was fleeting, but she was content to bask in the brief respite.

Sometime later she woke up again. Mikey was no longer in bed with her when she woke up. The curtains in the room were drawn closed tight, but she could still see the faint flicker of sunlight from the otherside. Without the weight of him pressing her into the mattress, she was finally able to sit up.

The covers pooled in her lap as she pushed herself into an upright position.. Her hands pressed into the bed behind her as she braced her weight on them. Her hair had mostly come out of the low ponytail she'd put it in before going to bed last night, and she reached up to pull the hair tie free from her raven locks. She tossed it onto the table beside the bed.

She glanced at Mikey's side of the bed- the side he hardly ever used. Whenever he was home at night, he slept as close to her as he physically could. As it was, he didn't seem to sleep much at all. He usually kept his head on her chest, ear pressed to her heart as he just listened. Listened to the pattern of her heartbeat and felt the way her chest moved as she slept. It was a comfort for him, she knew.

She shifted some on the bed, reaching her hand under the pillow he never used until the tips of her fingers touched the cold metal of the gun kept there. A force of habit she now had, she swiftly checked it. The safety was on despite its loaded status. The safety was always on.

She knew the reason it was there, Mikey's paranoia about her safety infecting his mind nearly every second of the day. He didn't sleep, just in case he had to act quick enough.

She wordlessly placed it back into its usual spot, setting the pillow back on top of it. As she moved to get up from bed, a brief wave of nausea caused her to come to a halt as soon as she pressed her feet onto the floor. She gave it a minute to pass, pushing herself up as soon as it did.

"Right, right," she murmured softly to herself, hand caressing over the decent-sized bump on her stomach. "Breakfast, I know." She sounded almost exasperated as she spoke to the bump her hand rested so delicately on. At the same time, she felt a kick against her palm.

She stepped into the kitchen and gathered the things she needed. She walked around the kitchen as she cooked her breakfast, repeatedly going back and forth to get things she forgot in the first place.

As she stood by the stove waiting for the eggs in the pan to finish cooking, she cut up some strawberries and mixed them into some yogurt. After the first bite, she noted something was missing and returned to the fridge. She twisted off the lid of the pickle jar and cut a spear up and mixed it in with her strawberries and yogurt. She returned the jar to where it'd been, closing the fridge with her hip and nodding to herself when she was much more pleased with the second bite.

"... better," she hummed to herself, taking the pan off the heat and turning the stove off. She put the eggs on a plate and set the pan aside to clean later in favor of enjoying her breakfast without the concern of cleaning the dishes.

As sat there, she was struck with an uneasy feeling. It was one she knew well. No matter how used to it she had become due to her own past, it still made her skin crawl.

She'd feigned innocence when it came to his meddling with time. She wasn't ever sure how to think of it back then, after all. Even now, she didn't know what to think of it. No matter the distance, she could still feel the shift in the air, the change in pressure, when time was somehow impacted by the presence of someone returning from the past.

She decided then that she would do what would be best for her in the long run.

Simply ignore it.

She received many odd stares as she walked down the familiar halls. Others, however, offered her common pleasantries. Those who had never met or seen her before looked a little too long, only to get knocked back into line by those who knew better than to cross a very treacherous line.

She followed her senses to a room that she used to spend a lot of time in, but she hadn't been there for the past five months now- Mikey's orders.

She came to a halt outside the door and rapped her knuckles against it. "Knock knock," she announced in a loud, sing-song tone. She gave it a few minutes before she opened the door, peering her head in.

She was greeted by the sight of a few of the men inside waving the smoke from the air. Half-smoked cigarettes were stamped out in ashtrays. She felt eyes on her, but she remained unfazed as she smiled a bit wider.

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" she hummed softly. The dress she wore showcased her pregnant body well, the soft blue color complimenting her bright eyes and bringing out the natural blue hidden within her raven hair.

"No, we're done," Mikey stated, looking at her from across the room. When she noticed the flicker in his eyes, she smiled a bit wider.

Okay, maybe she was perfectly aware of how she wasn't supposed to be anywhere near here right now, but what else was she supposed to do? She was going out of her mind alone all day.

"Why are you here?"

The question was blunt, and Kagome tilted her head to the side, innocently twisting a strand of hair around her finger. The others in the room got the hint and started to leave. As he walked by her, Ran gently ruffled her hair much like one would do to a sibling. Before long, it was just the two of them as the door closed.

Kagome made her way over to where Mikey sat. He leaned back once she got closer, his arms going around her as she settled herself on his lap, resting her head on his shoulder. His hand traced lazy patterns on her back.

"Why are you here?" He repeated his question, turning black eyes to her face when she had yet to give him a response. She sighed and nuzzled closer to him.

"It gets boring just sitting around all day, and I wanted to see you," she stated as if it were all matter-of-fact. Then again, to her, it was. "Boom- solution to both problems."

He wasn't amused by her response. "I don't want you here when you're like this," he stated, not being swayed by her playful tone. "I don't want anything happening to you."

Kagome sighed, knowing he wouldn't sway to her whims on this matter. "Then come home with me and have lunch," she whined. "The meeting's over, don't you have a few hours to keep me company?" she asked.

He sighed, fingers gently combing through her hair.

"Please?" she pleaded. Still, he didn't look as though he'd be swayed.

"I'll be home earlier tonight," he stated in an attempt to appease her. She pouted and got up as he coaxed her up from his lap. "You're going home now," he stated. When it looked like she would argue, he leaned to press his lips to her forehead. "Just… listen to me," he whispered. "I don't want you here, not right now."

He couldn't guarantee her safety here, not like he could when she was behind secure doors.

"Fine…" she relented, folding her arms across her chest as she pouted. He didn't acknowledge her pout as he walked her towards the door, calling for someone to see to it that she got home safe.

Auroua-chan: I've said it once, I'll say it again. I love the Bonten timeline. There will be a lot of angst for this story, though, so just keep that in mind.

Kagome's always been aware of Takemichi's time travel. She didn't survive in the first timeline when Takemichi first went back, nor did she survive in any others but this one. She has some understanding of her fate in those timelines, as well, but just how much will be found out later.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
