A few weeks had passed since Aria had joined the crew, and she had quickly adapted to life on the seas. She found that the days were never dull and that each day brought a new adventure and unexpected event, some good, some bad, but always exciting.
Luffy, meanwhile, had been keeping a watchful eye on her, making sure that she was adjusting to life on the ship and with the crew. He was pleased with how quickly she had fit in, and how much more lively and cheerful she seemed.
One day, as the crew was all gathered together on the deck, Luffy takes a moment to talk to her in private. He has a serious expression on his face, and his tone is different than usual, more calm and contemplative. "Aria, can I talk to you for a moment?"
Aria looks up at him, surprised by the serious tone in his voice. She had grown used to his carefree and lively demeanor. She nods, wondering what he wanted to talk to her about.
Luffy leads her to a quiet spot on the deck, where they could talk without being overheard. He looks out at the sea for a moment, deep in thought.
After a moment of silence, Luffy turns to her, his gaze intense and serious. He speaks slowly and deliberately. "Aria, there's something I need to ask you. And I need you to be honest with me, ok?"
Aria nods, a slight nervous feeling creeping into her chest. She can tell this must be something important. She looks at him expectantly, waiting for him to ask his question.
Luffy takes a deep breath, his eyes never leaving hers. He speaks, his voice steady and serious, but slightly hesitant at the same time. "Aria, I want to know why you decided to join us on this ship."
Aria is taken aback by the question. She hadn't been expecting him to ask her something so serious. She looks at him, searching his face for any sign of what he was thinking. After a moment of contemplation, she responds, her voice slightly hesitant but sincere.
"Well," Aria began, trying to find the right words to explain her decision. "I don't have much of a home to go back to. My old town, I never really fit in there. People thought I was strange and weird, and I never felt like I belonged."
She pauses, trying to find the right words to explain her feelings. "I guess, deep down, I always craved a sense of adventure and excitement in my life. But more than that, I just wanted to find a place where I felt like I belonged, where I was accepted for who I am. And when I met you... I just had this feeling that your crew could be that place for me."
Luffy continues to listen, his intense gaze locked on her. She could tell he was taking her words seriously, genuinely trying to understand her reasons. When she finishes speaking, he remains silent for a moment, his expression thoughtful and contemplative.
He then speaks, his tone gentler and less serious than before. "I see. Thank you for being honest with me, Aria. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't... running away from something or someone."
Aria shakes her head, her expression firm and resolute. "No, not at all. I'm not running away from anything. I just wanted to find a new life, a better life. And I feel like I've found it here, with you and the crew."
Luffy smiles, feeling relieved and satisfied with her answer. He can see the determination and conviction in her eyes, and knows that she's being honest with him. He places a hand on her shoulder, his expression soft and affectionate. "Well, you're one of us now. And we take care of our own. We're your family now."
Aria smiles warmly, feeling touched by his words. A sense of belonging and acceptance fills her heart as she looks at him. She takes comfort in his words, knowing that she has found a new home and a new family among this strange and exciting bunch.
Aria felt like she had especially developed a closeness with Luffy during the few weeks she had been sailing with them. They were kindred spirits, and these days it seemed like they were almost always together. She felt herself drawn to him, his cheerful demeanor infectious. She revered and respected him greatly, and felt a strong sense of admiration and loyalty towards him. She also felt unbelievably appreciative that he was so willing to let her join his crew.
Luffy could sense the connection and bond growing between them as well. He was drawn to her, and felt a natural kinship with her. He loved her enthusiasm and adventurous spirit, and enjoyed her company immensely. Although he didn't quite understand it, he felt a strong sense of protectiveness over her, even though she was plenty capable on her own.
The crew had also begun to take notice of the closeness that had developed between their captain and newest crew member.
Zoro, the swordsman, observed the interactions between Luffy and Aria with a mixture of amusement and concern. He could see that they were getting closer, and he couldn't help but wonder about the nature of their relationship.
Nami, the navigator, was the first to comment on it. She watched the two interact, observing the way they laughed and joked together. There was something about their dynamic that made her curious. She approached Zoro, who was also watching them. "Hey Zoro, don't you think Luffy and Aria are pretty close?" There was a hint of teasing in her voice.
"Yeah, I've noticed. They're practically attached at the hip these days." He replied, his expression stoic as usual.
"Hmmm, I wonder what's going on there. It's kind of cute, if you ask me." She said, a sly grin spreading across her face. "You can see the way he looks at her." She pointed out, gesturing towards Luffy and Aria.
Zoro followed her gesture, looking at the duo with a contemplative expression. He saw how Luffy's eyes seemed to sparkle when he looked at her, and how he seemed to gravitate towards her constantly. "Huh. I hadn't really noticed. But now that you mention it, you're right. He does seem different around her." There was a hint of realization in his tone, as if something was dawning on him.
"Exactly. I mean, he's always cheerful and carefree, but around her, he's... I don't know, softer almost. Like she brings out a different side of him." She said, her teasing tone replaced with curiosity.
Zoro nods slowly, contemplating Nami's words. "You could be onto something. He definitely seems more laid back and less hyperactive when she's around. It's like he can let his guard down when he's with her."
Nami grins, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "You know, Zoro, those sound like the early stages of a relationship to me. And you know what a relationship leads to, don't you?" She says teasingly, giving him a nudge.
Zoro rolls his eyes, unamused by her insinuation. "I know what you're trying to imply, Nami, and trust me, it's not like that." He says firmly, not wanting to entertain any thoughts of Luffy and Aria being romantically involved.
Nami raises an eyebrow, skeptical of his denial. "Oh really? You're not even a little bit suspicious?" She prodded, enjoying making him squirm.
Zoro grumbles, knowing that she can see right through him. "Look, I know Luffy. He's an idiot. He doesn't have a romantic bone in his body. There's no way he has feelings for her in that way."
Nami laughs, sensing his hesitation. "You say that, but you've been watching them like a hawk this whole time. Seems like you're a little worried, huh?"
Zoro huffs in annoyance, not wanting to admit the truth. "I'm not worried. I'm just being observant. Someone has to keep an eye on them, especially since Luffy is the most naive person on this ship."
Nami grins wider, loving how worked up she was making him. "Sure, sure. You keep telling yourself that. But I have a feeling you're not as indifferent as you want me to believe."
Zoro scowls, frustrated that Nami sees through him so easily. "I'm not indifferent, I'm just being realistic. And the last thing I need to worry about is my captain falling for some girl he just met a few weeks ago."
Nami's smile turns knowing, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, come on, Zoro. You and I both know how Luffy is. He has a big heart and tends to get attached to people quickly. And from the looks of it, he's already attached to Aria."
Zoro sighs, knowing that he can't deny it. "Fine, I'll admit, he's taken a liking to her. But it's not in a romantic way. He's just being friendly and welcoming to a new crew member, that's all."
Nami rolls her eyes, not buying his excuse. "And I suppose the fact that he's constantly by her side, laughing and joking around with her, and generally being super protective over her is just a coincidence?"
Zoro frowns, unable to dispute her point. "Okay, so he's a bit protective of her. That doesn't mean anything." He mutters, still attempting to deny any potential feelings.
Nami raises an eyebrow, her smile turning sly. "And the fact that he's always finding ways to touch her, whether it's an arm around her shoulders or a hand on her arm? That's just a coincidence too, right?"
Zoro's eyes narrow stubbornly, feeling cornered by her observations. "He's like that with everybody. He's a touchy-feely person. He's always grabbing and hugging people."
Nami smirks, enjoying watching him squirm. "Oh really? I don't see him hanging on to Sanji or Usopp like that. And I've seen how he is with you. He's not nearly as clingy or affectionate with you as he is with her."
Zoro grumbles, feeling defeated but not wanting to admit it. "Okay, fine. He does act a bit differently around her. But that doesn't necessarily mean he has romantic feelings for her. Maybe he just sees her as a little sister or something."
Nami grins, amused by his denial. "A 'little sister', huh? That's a nice way to try and explain it, but I think we both know it's more than that. He cares about her a lot, probably more than a brother should. Or is it possible that you're the one who sees her as a little sister? And you're just worried about your precious captain falling in love with her?" She teases him again.
Zoro glares at her, annoyed by her teasing. "Don't be ridiculous. I just don't want him getting distracted by some girl he just met. We're in the middle of an adventure, and he needs to stay focused on our goals, not on some romantic escapade."
Nami leans in closer, still wearing a knowing smile. "Ah, you're worried about distractions, are you? Or are you just worried about him getting hurt? I know you have a soft spot for him, even if you like to pretend you don't."
Zoro grits his teeth, knowing that she was right. "Of course I don't want him to get hurt. But that doesn't mean I'm worried about him falling in love with her or something stupid like that. He's my captain, and it's my job to keep him safe, that's all."
Nami continues to tease him, amused by his defensiveness. "Sure, sure. It's just your "job" to keep him safe. That's all it is. You're definitely not secretly worried about him falling in love with this girl and getting distracted." She says, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Zoro rolls his eyes, getting frustrated at her relentless teasing. "Enough, Nami. You're reading way too much into this. Yes, I care about Luffy and want to keep him safe, but that doesn't mean I'm concerned about him falling in love with this new crew member. And even if I was, what's it to you?"
Nami grins, enjoying how worked up she was making him. "Oh, nothing. I just find it hilarious that you're in denial like this. Deny it all you want, but I know you're worried. Maybe not openly, but deep down, you are. I can see it in your eyes, and the look on your face when you see them together."
Zoro scowls, not wanting to give her the satisfaction of admitting she was right. "You're imagining things. Maybe you're just seeing what you want to see. And even if I was worried, which I'm not, why do you care so much?"
Nami laughs, her smile growing wider. "I care because I see how it affects you. And I like seeing you squirm when I point out the obvious. But mostly, I just find it amusing how you're trying so hard to deny what's right in front of your face."
Zoro huffs, growing more and more frustrated by the conversation. "There's nothing to deny. You're just imagining things, and I'm tired of this pointless argument. Can we move on to something else please?"
Nami chuckles, enjoying seeing him so worked up. But she decides to take pity on him and changes the subject. "Fine, fine. We can change the subject if you want. But don't think I won't bring this up again later."
Zoro sighs in relief, grateful that the conversation is shifting away from the topic of Luffy and Aria. "I'm sure you will. You never know when to quit."
Nami grins, knowing all too well how stubborn she can be. "Guilty as charged. But you know you love it really."
