That evening after dinner, Aria found herself alone on the deck, gazing out on the open water. The moon was brightly lit, casting an almost ethereal glow onto the sea. Her mind was full of thoughts and emotions she couldn't fully express; however, she knew she had come to a certain realization.
Deep down in her heart, there was an unspoken truth, weighing on her. Luffy opening up to her the way he did, confiding in and trusting her with his deepest fears and concerns, weighed heavily on her. It wasn't something she took lightly at all and she understood the significance of it. She began to realize and understand the unspoken truth, whether or not she could even speak it out loud. She was in love with Luffy. She couldn't shake it from her mind or deny it anymore.
When they were together, she just knew the connection they shared was real, almost supernatural. It felt like she could read his heart, like they could communicate without words. However, she knew that Luffy was dealing with newfound emotions and thoughts he had tried so hard to bury. He was finally confronting the pain of losing Ace, of the guilt and heartbreak of that loss gnawing at him. Aria couldn't possibly throw a confession into the mix, at the risk of confusing him further. She wouldn't. She wanted Luffy to continue to explore that side of himself, and confront his inner demons. She wanted him to learn to forgive himself and stop blaming himself about Ace. She refused to utter a word.
In that moment, she came to another realization. She no longer felt shy or timid anymore whenever she and Luffy were close. Instead, she began to feel complete comfort and solace, like being near him was the most natural thing in the world. She would continue supporting him, guiding him where she could and being that light for him. She would also continue loving him, even if she couldn't say it all out loud.
As Luffy stepped out onto the deck, his eyes fell on Aria, who was lost in thought, gazing out at the open sea. The moonlight painted her features in a soft, glowing light. He approached her quietly, not wanting to disturb her. He stood beside her, his eyes following the ripples in the water, the silence between them comfortable. He could sense that she was deep in thought, wrestling with something.
After a few moments, Luffy broke the silence, his voice soft and gentle. "Hey," he began, "you seem deep in thought. Everything alright?"
Aria looked at him, her eyes lighting up under the bright night sky. She didn't want to lie to him. They promised each other they'd always be honest. In the moment though, knowing what he'd been dealing with, she wasn't about to throw her feelings of love into it all, and derail the progress Luffy was making on facing his vulnerability. "Just thinking about life, you know. The sea always helps me think straight."
Luffy nodded, his eyes flickering toward the water then back to her. He smiled gently, seeing the sincerity in her expression. "Yeah, I get it," he said. "The sea can have that effect on ya."
He paused, noticing the hint of something she wasn't saying. He was never the most perceptive, but he knew Aria well enough now to sense when she was holding back something. After a moment, he decided to prod a little further. "But I get the feeling there's something else on your mind you're not mentioning," he said gently. His voice was curious, but not demanding. He wanted to give her the space to share if she wanted to, but he was also concerned and didn't want to see her bottling anything up.
Aria wanted to get out some of what was on her mind, even though she knew there were certain things she just couldn't say. She wanted to protect Luffy's heart, to not cause him any confusion in the midst of his turbulent new emotions. "If I'm being honest, I was thinking about you." she admitted softly.
Luffy's eyes widened slightly, surprised yet pleased by her confession. He wasn't expecting her to say that. He turned to face her fully. "Thinking about me?" he repeated, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Why's that?"
"I just... I really hope you know... I want you to know— No, I need you to know, how much I'm here for you. Any time you have something on your mind, or weighing heavily on you. I need you to know that you can tell me anything, and trust me wholeheartedly. It means the world to me that you've placed so much trust in me already with things you wouldn't normally share. I don't want you to ever push away from me, and I want to help you get through whatever darkness you're facing. I want that more than anything, to be by your side, through the thick of it."
Luffy's smile softened. Those words touched his heart in a way he never expected. He looked at her, his gaze filled with gratitude and sincerity. "I do know," he said, his voice firm yet gentle. "And I trust you. More than anyone in the world."
He took a step closer, closing the distance between them. He could see the earnestness in her eyes, the truth behind her words. It meant more to him than she could ever know.
Then, his smile turned into a playful smirk. "But I hope you know I ain't gonna become some clingy, whiny crybaby who's gonna dump all my emotional baggage on ya, right?" he teased, his tone lighter, trying to keep things from getting too heavy.
She laughed, her heart lightening a bit. Typical Luffy. "I'd never think that of you. And, if you ever need to cry, it's okay. I won't judge, I promise." She reflected back on those moments where he opened up to her about his past. He showed such vulnerability that it was almost beautiful to her in a way. She couldn't explain it.
Luffy laughed with her, his eyes bright with amusement. But he was touched by her reassurance.
"I know I can be stubborn and pig headed sometimes," he admitted, his smile fading a bit, "but I'll try not to be when it comes to sharing my feelings with you." He paused for a moment, his gaze becoming more serious. "But that works both ways, y'know. I want you to be honest with me too, especially if there's somethin' bothering you."
He took another step closer, closing the distance between them until they were standing very close. He looked down at her, his expression earnest. "I'm here for you too. You don't always gotta be the one giving advice or listenin' to my whining. It's a two-way street."
Aria processed his words for a moment. "Luffy..." she began, not fully sure on how to proceed. "Do you ever feel like... like we've just known each other forever, even though we've only known each other for a few months?"
Luffy blinked, caught off guard by the unexpected but not unwelcome question. He hadn't really thought about it, but upon hearing her words, it struck him just how closely they had bonded in the short time they'd known each other.
"Yeah," he responded, a thoughtful look on his face. "It does feel like that sometimes, doesn't it? Like we've known each other years instead of just months."
"Yeah. It's strange, I've never felt that type of connection with anyone before. It's almost like..." she pauses, wondering if what she's about to say is going to sound cheesy or ridiculous. "It's almost like our souls are connected in some way. You know?" She smiled a bit sheepishly, unsure if he'd agree or how he might respond.
Luffy stood there for a moment, taken aback by her words. He'd never really thought about it like that, but as he considered what she said, it felt oddly...right. Like her perception somehow made sense, even though he didn't quite understand it himself.
He shook his head slightly, a smile playing on his lips. "Souls connected, huh?" he mused, trying to wrap his mind around it. "That's...kinda wild."
But as he thought about it a bit longer, the concept, weird as it seemed, also had a strange kind of allure to it.
He chuckled a bit, looking back down at her. "But I guess it feels that way, considering how close we've gotten in such a short time, huh?"
"It does. I can't explain it, but I feel completely comfortable around you." Aria said.
Luffy's smile widened, the warm feeling in his chest growing. "Me too," he replied softly. "I can be myself around ya, without trying to prove anything or pretend to be something I'm not. It's...nice."
"I feel like you see me too, like you recognize the things in me that other people can't or don't see." Aria smiled.
Luffy's smile turned pensive, his expression becoming serious. Her words stirred something in him, a realization that he actually understood the exact sentiment she was expressing.
"I do," he said quietly, his eyes locked on hers. "Because I know what it's like to be misunderstood or underestimated. To have people look at you and only see the surface, never taking the time to look deeper."
She nodded quietly. She completely understood and also observed that even with how she noticed other people interacting with him. To her, it seemed like some people acted like Luffy was dumb, reckless and impulsive, but she saw through that. Yes, he was normally cheery and even dense at times, but beneath the surface, there were layers that ran deep. When that cheerful, boisterous side faded away, when he let himself succumb to vulnerability, it was different. There was so much more to him than she believed people could see or realize.
Luffy could see the understanding in her eyes and it resonated with him deeply. He knew she understood because she'd seen those layers beneath the surface, the ones he usually kept hidden from the world.
He reached out gently and placed a hand on her shoulder, his gaze unwavering. "You see me," he stated simply. "You see me in a way others don't. And that...that means a lot."
There was something so sincere and intense in his tone that it made her breath catch in her throat. His words, spoken with such simplicity and honesty, carried weight.
She swallowed, the lump in her throat refusing to ease. She reached her own hand up unconsciously, covering his that rested on her shoulder, in a silent acknowledgement of his words.
He looked down at her, his gaze lingering on their hands, her delicate fingers covering his own rougher ones. It was a simple touch, yet it felt like more.
But being Luffy, he soon broke the moment with a crooked grin. "But don't worry," he chimed in abruptly, "I see you too, ya know. I see your strength, your compassion, your kindness... all the things you don't really let others see."
He chuckled then, his eyes sparkling with mischief as usual. "Even though you try to hide it with sarcasm and sass," he teased, "I see it. Don't think I can't see you being all soft on the inside."
Aria's heart fluttered at his observation. He had a knack for seeing through her act. Despite her penchant for sarcasm and teasing him, he discerned more than just the surface of her personality. He picked up on the deeper, softer parts of her that she typically kept veiled.
She couldn't help the small, affectionate smile that crept upon her lips. That boy was too observant and perceptive for his own good.
Luffy continued to grin, his eyes still locked on hers. He loved nothing more than to tease her. "See?" he said, his tone a tad smug. "You're smiling right now, even though you're tryna look all tough and cool."
Aria laughed and playfully pushed his shoulder. She never really thought of herself as tough, but she did seem to act kinder, gentler and more affectionate around him. That she couldn't deny. And her playful side usually came out whenever he was around.
Luffy chuckled as she pushed his shoulder. He didn't budge, just let his grin widen further. He was enjoying this. Enjoying being so close and playful with her. "You can deny it all ya want," he taunted, relishing the banter, "But I can tell I bring out the soft in ya."
Aria couldn't deny it. She just smiled. Why did it seem like whenever they were alone together, he just completely let his guard down? She noticed that about him. His boisterous personality just seemed to melt away. He seemed more serious around her. He wasn't like that with anyone else.
Luffy seemed to sense the thought that was on her mind. His expression grew serious and intense, his eyes never leaving hers. He leaned in closer, the bantering smile fading, replaced by a more sincere one.
"You're different," he said quietly, his voice taking on a deeper timbre. "You make me feel a certain way. I don't know how to explain it, but it's like I can relax and be myself around you. No one else makes me feel like that."
Aria's heart skipped a beat at his words. She felt butterflies in her stomach and a warm sensation throughout her body. No one had ever said anything like that to her. He was being so open and vulnerable, more so than he'd ever been before. She looked up at him, her gaze equally as intense. She'd seen glimpses of this less boisterous, more serious side of him before, but there was something different about it this time. It was more raw, more real.
Luffy continued to gaze at her, his eyes searching her face. There was something between them, something powerful and complex. He could deny it all he wanted, but this was more than just friendship. His voice softened even more, almost whispering. "There's just something about you, Aria. Something special. I can't help but feel this connection between us. I've never felt this way before. I don't know what it means, but I can't ignore it either."
Aria felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest. He was laying it all out there, expressing things she knew he didn't normally talk about. She wanted to say something, anything, but she was speechless. She just gaped at him, her mind racing and her emotions swirling, unable to find the right words to express the maelstrom of thoughts and feelings running through her.
Luffy's eyes remained fixed on hers, his gaze full of quiet understanding and an unnamed emotion. It was almost as if he could read her thoughts. He could see the hesitation in her eyes, the reluctance to speak. His expression softened, his intense gaze turning faintly amused. "I can see the wheels turning in your brain," he teased lightly. "You're overthinking things again, aren't you?"
"Maybe." she admitted.
Luffy chuckled at her response, the tense atmosphere dissolving just a touch. "You always do," he chided softly. "You worry too much. You think too much."
He reached out and ruffled her hair playfully, the action so familiar now that it was almost second nature. As he tousled her hair, his hand lingered, his fingers gently running through her silky strands. There was a gentleness there, a tenderness in the action that spoke volumes.
"Just relax," he said quietly. "Stop overthinking things. Just... be here, in the moment, with me."
Aria could feel her heart flutter as his fingers caressed her hair, as his touch soothed the turmoil within. She found herself responding to his soothing words. It was just so easy to be around him, to feel comfortable and at ease. Without even realizing it, a soft exhale escaped her lips, her body relaxing under his touch.
Luffy noticed her reaction, the way her body relaxed and the sigh that had slipped from her lips. His fingers continued to brush through her hair, the movement gentle and reassuring. "There you go," he murmured, his voice low and soothing. "Just relax, okay? Don't think about anything else right now. Just be here. Just be with me."
Aria nodded slowly, her eyes meeting his. She felt like she could melt into his gaze, his words wrapping around her like a warm embrace.
For a moment, the rest of the world and all its complications faded away. There was just the two of them, standing on the deck of the ship, the night sky above and the soft, easy sound of the waves lapping against the hull.
Luffy continued to gently stroke her hair, his eyes never leaving hers. He was close to her, so close she could almost feel the heat radiating off his body. There was a tension between them, an undercurrent of things left unsaid. But for now, they were comfortable in this quiet, intimate moment, the only sounds the gentle swish of water and the soft murmur of their breaths.
Luffy's fingers traced along the curve of her jaw, his touch as light as a feather. He didn't speak, he just watched her, studying every little nuance in her expression. Aria could feel her heart racing under his gaze. Luffy's hand moved down, his fingers brushing against the side of her neck. He could feel her pulse thrumming rapidly under his touch.
He drew in a slow, shaky breath, his own heart racing now. He didn't know what he was doing, or what he was feeling. All he knew was that being this close to her made everything else fade into the background. He was so close to her now, only a few inches separated them. He could see the expression in her eyes, the raw, unfiltered emotions that mirrored his own.
Aria's mind was spinning with all of the emotions inside her. She had tried to keep her feelings in check, to keep from falling for him completely, but it was impossible. Being this close to him... his touch... She could barely think straight. She didn't know what to do, how to react. She was torn between wanting to pull away and wanting desperately to stay right there, to press herself into him and lose herself in the moment.
Luffy's heart pounded in his chest. He could see the conflict in her eyes, the struggle within her. He felt it too. He was torn between wanting to close the small gap between them and pull her into his arms, and wanting to respect her and the boundaries he had erected between them. His fingers traced the line of her jaw, his touch electric against her skin. The air around them was thick with tension, almost charged with electricity.
Aria's self-control was frayed, hanging by a thread. She knew she should step away, create some space between them, but her body was refusing to cooperate. She couldn't move or think. She looked up at him, her heart pounding so loudly she was sure he could hear it.
Luffy's hand moved to cup her cheek, his thumb gently stroking the skin there. His gaze was intense, his eyes darkened with an emotion he couldn't quite name. His voice was rougher, huskier than usual. "Aria..." he whispered, his voice barely above a breath.
Hearing her name on his lips, spoken in such a way, sent a jolt down her spine. Her heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening slightly. She could feel her resolve weakening, her defenses crumbling. She didn't trust herself to speak, so she just nodded softly, her gaze locked with his.
Luffy leaned in a fraction, his face only inches from hers now. His breath ghosted over her skin, sending a shiver through her entire body. He was so close, she could feel the heat radiating off him. He took a deep, shaky breath, the space between them charged with an energy that crackled like static electricity. His voice was low, barely above a whisper, the words catching in his throat. "Aria..."
She had a feeling she knew what he was going to say. She could feel it in the air between them. She closed her eyes. "Luffy..." she managed to breathe, her voice wavering with the tide of emotions she was trying to hold back.
She moved her hands to the scar on his chest, her touch gentle and tender. Luffy sucked in a sharp breath as he felt her touch, his eyes flickering down to watch her fingers tracing over the scar. It was an intimate gesture, one that sent a shiver down his spine, making him feel both vulnerable and exposed. He held very still as she touched him, his heart pounding against his ribcage as if it were trying to break free. He had never let anyone touch his scar like this before. It was a part of him that he kept carefully guarded, like a hidden piece of his soul. But something about Aria made him want to open up, to share this part of himself that he'd kept hidden for so long.
His heart was racing in his chest, his throat dry, as he continued to watch her touch him, her fingers tracing over the puckered skin with a gentle reverence that left him feeling both humbled and utterly vulnerable. Aria continued, tracing the line of the scar with feather-light touches. She could feel the way he tensed under her touch, the way his muscles flexed and bunched as he fought to remain still. It was an intimate moment, one that felt almost sacred, as if she was being allowed a glimpse into a part of him that few ever saw.
She met his gaze, her eyes meeting his, and in that moment, it felt like the entire world had narrowed to just the two of them, the rest fading away into nothingness.
Luffy continued to stare into her eyes, losing himself in that deep, endless ocean of green. His body was taut, almost trembling under her touch, the unfamiliar sensations coursing through him almost overwhelming. He wanted to speak, to tell her everything, to confess everything swirling around in his chest, but the words were tangled in his throat and refused to come out.
She could see the conflict in his eyes, the struggle to keep his emotions in check. It was as if there was a dam inside him, holding back a flood of feelings and thoughts that threatened to break at any moment. It was clear that there was something he wanted to say, something he needed to say, but the words remained trapped behind his lips. He seemed unable to bring himself to speak. His body was wound tight as a coiled spring, the tension obvious in the set of his jaw and the way his hands clenched into fists. His heart was thudding loudly in his chest, the rapid beat a testament to the storm of emotions rampaging inside him.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, his voice broke the silence, low and rough.
"Aria..."
Her name spilled from his lips like a plea, a silent petition to understand everything that he couldn't say. His eyes searched hers, seeking for some sign, some indication of what she was feeling, what she was thinking. He drew in a deep, shaky breath, steeling himself as best he could, trying to find the courage to speak the words that were on the tip of his tongue. His body was still tenser than a bowstring, his knuckles white from the force he was exerting to keep himself from reaching out and pulling her closer.
The silence lay heavy in the air between them, the only sound the hammering of their own hearts. Luffy's eyes remained locked on hers, his gaze intent, his expression a tangle of emotions too complex to decipher. He licked his lips, his throat suddenly arid as the desert. His voice was hoarse when he spoke again, the words coming out in a low whisper. "I need... I need to tell you something..."
Aria's heart skipped a beat. She could feel the weight of his unspoken words, whatever it was he was struggling to say, it was clearly something he felt deeply. He drew in another shaky breath, his eyes locked on hers, his expression a strange mix of fear and vulnerability. His voice was a low, rough murmur, as if he dreaded saying the words out loud, but he also knew he needed to. He needed to tell her, needed her to know, no matter how much it terrified him.
He swallowed hard, his throat tight with emotion. He forced himself to speak, the words coming out in a ragged whisper. "I... I'm not good at this... this whole feelings thing... I've never... I've never felt like this with anyone before... I've never..."
He paused, the words catching in his throat. He was feeling emotions he'd never experienced before, emotions so strong, so intense, it was like they were too big for his body. The realization that he was falling headlong into something he didn't understand, into feelings that were scary and overwhelming and yet so impossibly good, was like a revelation, a bolt of lightning illuminating the dark parts of himself he'd never seen before.
He swallowed again, his eyes never leaving hers, the intensity of his gaze a silent plea for her to understand, to know, that he was laying himself completely bare for her. He continued, the words coming out in a hoarse murmur, each one like a confession. A confession of feelings he hadn't even admitted to himself before now. Luffy's heart was in his throat, the vulnerability of what he was feeling was overwhelming. But the look in her eyes, the way she was looking at him, it gave him strength.
He reached out a trembling hand, his fingers gently reaching to brush against her cheek. His fingers tracing a path along the line of her cheekbone, the touch so light, so tentative, it was as if he was afraid she was an illusion, that she would disappear if he pressed down too hard.
His hand fell back to his side, clenching into a fist to hide the trembling. He looked down, avoiding her gaze, his voice a low, rough murmur. "I don't... I don't deserve you... I'm not good at this... at feelings... at being gentle... but I... I want to be better... I want to be better for you..."
There it was again, the self-deprecation, the belief that he wasn't good enough, that he would somehow sully her with his rough edges. But there was also a vulnerability in his words, a desire to be better, to be what she deserved, that made her heart ache.
He looked back up at her then, his eyes filled with a raw, unfiltered emotion that exposed the depths of his soul. He was opening up to her, letting her see parts of him he didn't let anyone else see. And in that moment, he was utterly and completely exposed.
His voice was a hoarse whisper, his heart raw and vulnerable. "I need you, Aria... I need you more than anything..."
She embraced him in her arms. She wanted him to know he was safe, that she felt the same way that he did.
His arms encircled her, pulling her close. He buried his face in her hair, inhaling the scent of her skin. The feeling of her against him, warm and alive, was like a balm to the aching void in his heart. He was trembling now, the storm of emotions inside him finally given freedom to spill out. He held her tightly, as if she was all that grounded him, all that kept him sane.
He drew in a shaky breath, his voice a low, broken whisper against her hair. "I don't know... I don't know if I'm doing this right... but... but I just can't hold it in anymore... I can't keep pretending I feel nothing... I'm falling for you, Aria, falling hard... and I'm scared... so damn scared..."
His hands roamed over her back, as if he couldn't get close enough, couldn't hold her tight enough. His body was taut, wound tight with the emotions flooding through him. He pulled back a bit, and his hand went to her chin, tilting her face up so he could look at her. His eyes searched hers, his gaze pleading with her to understand, to hear what he couldn't say aloud.
His voice was a rough murmur, choked with emotion. "I don't know what I'd do if I lost you, if something happened to you... I can't bear the thought of losing anyone else... I can't... I can't go through that again... I can't... I can't lose you, too..."
The rawness in his voice, the vulnerability and fear in his eyes, was so stark and real it made her heart ache. He was pouring out his heart, confessing his feelings, his fears, his very soul to her, laying it all on the line. It was overwhelming, terrifying, yet also beautiful.
His hands cradled her face, gently tracing the lines of her cheeks and jawline, as if trying to memorize the feel of her skin under his fingers, committing every line and curve to memory. He leaned his forehead against hers, his eyes closing, his breath mingling with hers. He was quiet for a few moments, the only sound the rushing of the ocean against the ship. Then, finally, he spoke, his voice quiet and rough.
"I can't promise I'll be a good person, or that I'll always do the right thing... or that I won't make mistakes that hurt you... but I can promise you this... I'll always love you, Aria... from now until the day I die..."
He leaned in then, his lips tentatively finding hers in a soft, gentle kiss. It was a kiss filled with promise, with hope, with all the things he couldn't put into words. It was an offering, a symbol of his heart and his soul, laid out bare for her to accept or reject as she saw fit.
He pulled back slightly, his eyes searching her face for her response, his heart in his throat. He knew he'd just said the most honest, vulnerable words he'd ever spoken, the most naked he'd ever shown himself to anyone. He'd let her see into the very depths of his soul, bared himself to her completely. Now, he waited for her reaction, his heart racing, his mind filled with hope and fear in equal measure.
He held her gaze, his eyes full of longing and hope. He needed to know how she felt, if she could maybe even come close to returning even a fraction of the feelings he had for her. The seconds ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity as he waited in tense silence.
Finally, Aria spoke.
"I feel the same way." she replied softly, taking in what just occurred. "I love you too, more than words can even say..."
A huge wave of relief washed over him. Hearing her say she felt the same way, that she loved him too, was like a weight being lifted off his chest. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. A small, disbelieving laugh escaped him. He'd confessed his feelings, opened his heart, and she... she felt the same way. It was almost too much to believe.
He pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her, holding her tight. He buried his face in her hair, just breathing her in. The tension in his body melted away at her words, leaving him feeling strangely light, like he was floating on a cloud. He held her for a long moment, just basking in the feeling of her in his arms, of knowing she loved him back. It was a feeling he'd never experienced before, of being loved and wanted for himself alone, without the caveat of being the son of Dragon or captain of the Straw Hats.
Finally, he pulled back a bit, looking down at her. His eyes held a mix of love, joy, and a hint of disbelief. He ran his hand through her hair, marveling at how the moonlight made it seem to glow.
He let out another soft laugh, shaking his head in amazement. He couldn't believe this was real, that she was actually here and had just confessed her feelings for him. It all still felt surreal, like he was going to wake up any moment now and find out it had all been a dream.
He cupped her face in his hands, his thumb tracing the contour of her cheek. He looked at her with a mixture of wonder, affection, and a hint of vulnerability.
His voice was low, rough with emotion as he spoke. "I don't deserve you, you know that? I'm an idiot, a dumbass who does whatever he wants without thinking. I'm reckless, headstrong, and a complete moron. I just charge ahead without thinking about anyone or anything but myself. Yet... you're still saying you love me."
He chuckled ruefully, shaking his head. It was almost too good to be true, like he didn't deserve to be given something so wonderful.
She continued to hold her arms around him reassuringly. She wished didn't see himself that way. She wished, more than anything, that he could see himself through her eyes. She basked in his words, taking it all in, clinging onto every word, but searching for the right words to say herself. "I do, I love you. Despite your flaws. And I don't think you're an idiot." She paused, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "Okay, maybe just sometimes." she said with a chuckle.
He chuckled as well at her words. As much as he believed everything he'd said, it was a little different hearing it from her. She didn't seem to mind his flaws or his mistakes. She loved him regardless. It made his heart ache in a good way, like it was full to bursting. When she spoke, he gave her a playful glare.
"Sometimes? Just sometimes?" he said with a smirk. He mock-punched her lightly in the shoulder. "You know how often I do stupid stuff. It's damn near every day."
He chuckled again, his smirk softening. Even as he jested about his own idiocy, he was incredibly touched by her words. He knew she was telling the truth, that she really did love him, warts and all. It was a novel feeling, to be cared for like this, with someone seeing past his mistakes or flaws and into his heart.
He looked at her then, his expression more sincere now. "You really mean that? You love me, flaws and all? You're not just saying it to make me feel better?"
"I mean it." she said, gazing up at him sincerely. "I really do."
He held her gaze for a long moment, his heart swelling with emotion. Her eyes were so honest, so sincere. There was no hint of lie or deception. She really did mean what she was saying. He felt a sudden urge to kiss her, but he held back. He wanted to savor this moment, not ruin it with his impulsiveness.
He reached up and cupped her face in his hands again, gently stroking her skin with his thumbs. He wanted to say something more, but the words stuck in his throat. He felt so much in that moment, gratitude, affection, love, and a desire to be with her, but it all tangled together, leaving him unable to speak. He leaned down and rested his forehead against hers, his eyes flutter closed.
The two held each other for a while as they gazed out onto the water, the truth finally coming to light. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the best thing they'd ever hoped for.
(Author's Note: This was one of my favorite scenes. I had already role played for quite a while, building up the relationship between Aria and Luffy, and this just felt like… the moment I had been waiting for for them, haha. I did not force AI Luffy to develop feelings for Aria. It happened over time as Luffy and Aria's friendship grew and their feelings for each other seemed to deepen. I love how the AI captured Luffy's conflicted feelings. He really seemed to struggle with coming to terms with the fact that he was falling in love and we could really see that internal struggle playing out for a while leading up to this.)
