Luffy is sitting on the deck of the Thousand Sunny, enjoying the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves crashing against the hull of the ship. He is munching on a plate of meat, looking at the horizon with a determined expression.
"Mmm this meat is so good!" Luffy says between bites, his mouth full of food. "I could eat this all day!"
Just then, Aria appears from below deck and walks over to Luffy with a smile on her face. "Hey there!" Luffy says with a big grin. "Come to join me for some meat?"
"Sure!" she said with a cheerful smile, taking a seat beside him.
Luffy happily shoves a piece of meat into Aria's hands, clearly excited to share. "Here, try some!"
Aria takes a bite and her face lights up with joy as she chews and swallows. "Oh wow, this is delicious!" she exclaims.
Luffy grins smugly, clearly proud of his food. "Of course it is! I only eat the best meats around!"
Aria laughs and rolls her eyes playfully. "Of course you do..." she teases.
Luffy chuckles and playfully bumps into her. "Hey, don't question my meat choices!"
Aria laughs again and bumps him back. "I wouldn't dream of it!" she says with a smirk.
Luffy grins and continues eating, enjoying the company. "So whatcha up to?" he asks between bites.
"Not much, just thought I'd come enjoy some ocean breeze too. You can't hog it all to yourself, you know." she teased, nudging his arm with hers.
Luffy laughs and jokingly sticks his tongue out. "Hey, I can hog the ocean breeze all I want! I'm the captain, remember?"
Aria laughs again and rolls her eyes jokingly. "How could I forget?" she says with a smirk.
Luffy grins and takes another bite of his meat. "Damn right you can't forget!" he says, jokingly flexing his muscles.
Aria laughs and playfully hits his arm. "Oh, stop showing off!" she says, trying to hide her amusement.
Luffy grins and shrugs. "Can't help it, I'm just naturally awesome!" he says, puffing out his chest.
She gently leans her head on his shoulder. She was happy to see him happy. She wanted to just bask in this moment. Luffy glances down at her as she rests her head on his shoulder. A small, slightly bashful smile quirks up the corners of his mouth. He was still getting used to this new level of closeness between them, but he found himself enjoying it immensely. He said nothing and just continued to eat his meat, secretly basking in the warmth of her head on his shoulder.
After a few moments of comfortable silence, Luffy speaks up, his voice softer than normal. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course." she replies, a softness in her voice.
Luffy hesitates for a moment, suddenly seeming a little more vulnerable. He sets his food aside and turns towards her, his eyes meeting hers. "Can you... close your eyes for a second?"
Curious, Aria lifts her head off his shoulder and meets his gaze, sensing the serious tone in his voice. She nods and closes her eyes.
Luffy watches as her eyes close, a small, thoughtful expression on his face. He hesitates for a brief moment, gathering his thoughts before he speaks up once again. "You trust me, right?
Aria nods.
He takes a deep breath and starts to speak again. "You know about Ace and what happened to him, but there's something I've never really talked about when it comes to that day. Something that has weighed on me, but I've never really allowed myself to fully process or address."
Aria listens attentively, her eyes still closed as she focuses wholly on his words. She can feel the weight and seriousness in his voice, and she senses there's a deeper level of pain and struggle he's dealing with internally that he has yet to reveal.
Luffy takes another deep breath before continuing, his voice noticeably shaky. "That day... when I saw Ace die in front of me, it was like my whole world shattered. The person who was essentially my brother, someone I had fought side by side with for so long, just... gone..."
His voice trailed off and he swallowed hard, the memories flooding back to him.
Aria could hear the raw emotion in his voice, his vulnerability evident in every syllable. She reached out and gently placed a hand on his arm, a silent sign of support and encouragement for him to continue.
Luffy felt the comforting weight of her hand on his arm, and it helped anchor him, allowing him to continue.
He exhaled slowly, his voice trembling with emotion as he spoke. "It was like a part of me had died with him. But what hurt even more was the guilt..."
Aria could sense the self-blame and the torment Luffy was feeling. She gave his arm a gentle squeeze, silently urging him to continue.
Luffy let out a shaky breath, his head dropping as the weight of his guilt seemed to grow heavier in his chest. "I couldn't save him. I was there, but I couldn't do anything to stop it. And I know it's not my fault, that I couldn't have stopped it... but I just can't seem to fully accept that, no matter how much time passes. The guilt still eats at me, day and night... "
Aria's heart ached at his words, and she could feel the pain and regret in every word he spoke. She knew that this was a deep wound that Luffy had been carrying for a long time, one that had been buried deep inside him, but was now starting to surface.
He gritted his teeth, his fingers clenching into tight fists. "It's like... I know logically that there was nothing I could'e done, but my heart just won't let me forgive myself. I still feel like I failed him, like I let him down, even though I know it wasn't my fault..."
Aria reached over and took his clenched hand in hers, gently unraveling his fingers and intertwining them with her own. She gave his hand a comforting squeeze, silently communicating her understanding and support.
This simple gesture from Aria seemed to release some of the built-up tension within Luffy. He let out a shaky breath, his fingers tightening slightly around hers as he continued. "And then there's the anger, the anger that I couldn't do anything to stop it, to avenge his death. It just... sits there inside me, gnawing at me, feeding the guilt and making me feel even more inadequate."
Aria could hear the anger seeping into his voice now, and she could feel the tension in his body as he continued to speak. She kept holding his hand, her grip firm and reassuring, offering him a lifeline to hang on to as he bared his soul to her.
Luffy's chest was heaving now, his breathing ragged as he spoke, the emotions he had suppressed for so long finally bubbling to the surface. "And the worst part is, I don't know how to deal with any of it. How to move past it, how to forgive myself, how to let go of the anger. I just feel lost, like I'm stuck in this cycle of guilt and anger and pain, and I can't break free from it."
Aria could feel the weight of his words, the torment and suffering he had been enduring, and it broke her heart. She wanted nothing more than to ease his pain, to take some of that heavy burden off of his shoulders.
She reached out and gently placed her other hand on his cheek, turning his face toward hers. Her eyes met his, full of compassion and understanding. "Luffy, you don't have to carry all of that on your own. You have friends here who care about you, who want to help you. You're not alone in this."
Luffy's eyes widened slightly, surprised by the feeling of her cool, gentle touch on his cheek. He had been so consumed by his own guilt and anger that he had forgotten that he wasn't alone. He swallowed hard, his eyes meeting hers, searching for an anchor in the storm of emotions roiling inside him.
Aria's touch was like a balm on his tormented soul, and he found himself leaning into it without even realizing it. Her eyes held a mixture of concern and tenderness, and her voice was soft and gentle as she spoke. "You've been through so much, and you've been holding onto so much pain for so long. But it's okay to let it out, Luffy. It's okay to ask for help."
Her words seemed to echo through his mind, sinking in and slowly soothing some of the raw, stinging edges of his pain. He felt a lump form in his throat, and his eyes stung slightly as he spoke. "I... I don't know if I can let it go. The anger, the guilt, it's become like a part of me. It's like if I let it go, I'm losing a piece of myself."
Aria's heart ached for him, understanding the complexity of his emotions. But she knew he needed to hear the truth. "Luffy, you're not losing a part of yourself if you let go of your anger and guilt. Those emotions are weighing you down, trapping you in a cycle of pain. Letting go of them doesn't mean forgetting what happened or who you've lost. It means freeing yourself from the chains that have been holding you back."
Luffy listened to her words, his chest tightening at the truth in them. He knew deep down that she was right, that the anger and guilt had become a burden that he had to let go of. But part of him was terrified to do so, afraid of what would happen if he let go of the emotions that had been his constant companion for so long.
Aria could sense his internal struggle and knew it wouldn't be easy for him to let go. She continued speaking, her voice gentle but firm. "You don't have to let go all at once. It's a process. And you don't have to do it alone. I'm here for you, and the rest of the crew too. We're all here to support you."
Luffy's eyes locked with hers, and he could see the determination and sincerity in her expression. He felt a flicker of hope inside him, a small spark of belief that maybe he could overcome this. But the fear and doubt were still there, nagging at him, pulling him back towards the familiar comfort of anger and blame.
Aria saw the war within him, the struggle to let go and the fear of facing his true emotions. "It's okay to be afraid, Luffy. It's okay to feel weak and vulnerable. But you have to remember how strong you are. You've withstood so much already. You can do this too."
Luffy took a shuddering breath, his eyes burning slightly. He wanted to believe her, he wanted to let go of the anger and guilt that had been eating away at him. But the fear was so strong, the doubt so loud. It was like an endless cycle, and he was stuck in the middle, unable to break free.
Aria continued to hold his gaze, her eyes gentle but firm. She knew she needed to be persistent, to keep pushing him towards facing his emotions even if it was painful. "Luffy, please. Let go. For your own sake. You're only hurting yourself by holding on to this pain. You deserve to be free, to be happy."
Luffy's jaw clenched, his eyes growing shiny with unshed tears. Her words struck a chord deep within him, stirring up a mix of emotions that he had been suppressing for so long. Part of him wanted to let go, to release the anger and guilt that had been eating away at him. But another part of him was terrified of what would happen if he did.
Aria could see the inner turmoil in his eyes, the battle between his longing to be free and his fear of the unknown. She knew she needed to keep pushing, to keep reminding him that he wasn't alone, that he had the support of the crew and her. "Luffy, you don't have to carry this burden alone. Let us help you. Let us be there for you."
Luffy's shoulders shuddered, his breath catching in his throat. It was like a dam was about to break inside of him, the emotions he had been holding back for so long threatening to overflow. But the fear, the damn fear, was so strong, holding him back, keeping him from letting go.
Aria's heart ached for him, seeing the internal struggle he was enduring. She wanted desperately to take the pain away, but she knew that was impossible. The only one who could truly free himself was Luffy himself. "Luffy, you have to let go. You can't keep living like this, trapped in your pain. Please, let yourself be free."
Luffy's eyes welled up with tears, the dam finally cracking. The emotions he had held inside for so long started to spill over, a deluge of pain, anger, and guilt pouring out of him. He could hardly see through the tears, his chest heaving as sobs racked through him.
Aria's eyes widened, and her heart ached as she watched him break down. She immediately moved closer, wrapping her arms gently around him. She let him cry, holding him tight, trying to comfort him in the only way she could in that moment.
Luffy clung to her, his body shaking with racking sobs. He felt vulnerable, raw, and exposed, yet there was something liberating about letting it all out, about accepting the help and comfort she was offering him.
Aria held him tightly, her arms providing a physical anchor to reality. She whispered soothing words, telling him that it was okay to cry, that it was okay to feel the emotions he had been bottling up. She stroked his hair gently, her touch gentle and caring.
Luffy buried his face in the crook of her shoulder, his tears staining her shirt. He took deep, shuddering breaths, trying to regain control over his emotions. But it was like a dam had burst, and the emotions kept flowing out of him, overwhelming him with their intensity.
Aria continued to hold him, her presence unwavering. She didn't try to shush him or rush him to stop crying, understanding that he needed this release. She gently pressed her cheek against his, her own heart aching at the raw pain he was experiencing.
Luffy's sobs slowly subsided, replaced by ragged breaths and the occasional shudder. He slowly lifted his head from her shoulder, his eyes red-rimmed and watery. He looked at her, a mixture of vulnerability and shame in his gaze.
Aria met his gaze, her eyes soft and understanding. She gently wiped away the tears on his face, her touch tender and loving. She spoke softly, her voice gentle. "You don't have to be ashamed, Luffy. It's okay to cry. It's okay to feel the way you feel."
Luffy's breath hitched, the shame he had been feeling slowly fading. Her words and her touch were like a balm to his wounded soul, soothing and healing. "I'm just... I'm just so tired," he said, his voice rough and weary.
Aria's heart ached at his confession. She understood that the emotional weight of everything he was carrying had taken a toll on him. With a gentle smile, she leaned in closer, her forehead touching his. "I know you are," she said softly. "But you don't have to carry it all by yourself. You have us, the crew. And you have me."
Luffy's eyes shone with unshed tears again, the weight of her words and her presence sinking in. He had felt so alone for so long, trying to shoulder all the responsibility and pain by himself. Her words reminded him that he had people who cared for him, people who would help him if he allowed them to.
Aria gently placed her hand on his chest, feeling the rapid beating of his heart. She could feel the turmoil of emotions still churning inside him. "You don't have to be strong all the time, Luffy. It's okay to lean on others when you need to. It doesn't make you weak."
Luffy's breath hitched again. Her words struck a chord deep within him. He had always been the one to put on a brave face, to be the cheerful and optimistic captain. He had never really allowed himself to lean on others, to let anyone see his vulnerabilities.
Aria knew this, could see the internal conflict in his eyes. She leaned even closer, her voice a whisper as she looked into his eyes. "It's okay to be vulnerable, to let your guard down. You don't always have to be the strong captain. You can just be Luffy."
Luffy's eyes widened, the weight of her words hitting him with a sudden force. It was like something inside him broke, the last remnants of his guarded facade crumbling. His eyes welled up again, his voice a shaky whisper. "But... I'm supposed to be strong. I'm the captain."
Aria gently cupped his face in her hands, making sure he met her gaze. Her eyes were filled with understanding and empathy, her voice firm yet gentle. "Being a strong captain doesn't mean you have to be invincible. It means you can lead and protect your crew, but it also means you can lean on them when you need to. You can be vulnerable. You can be human. You're allowed to feel."
Luffy's eyes were locked onto hers, his breathing ragged. Her words were like a revelation, a truth he had tried to ignore for so long. He had been so caught up in being the strong captain, in being invulnerable, that he had neglected his own humanity. He had forgotten that it was okay to feel, to be vulnerable and weak.
He leaned into her touch, the warmth of her hands on his face grounding him in the moment. He let his guard down completely, allowing her to see the rawness of his emotions, the fears and doubts that he had been carrying for so long.
Aria's heart ached seeing him this way, yet she felt honored to be the one he chose to share this vulnerableness with. She gently stroked his hair, her touch soothing and comforting. "You're not alone, Luffy," she said softly. "I'm here. The crew's here. You don't have to carry this weight alone."
Luffy closed his eyes, her words a soothing balm to his weary heart. The weight he had carried for so long felt lighter knowing he had her, that he didn't have to face everything alone. He took a deep, shuddering breath, his voice a hoarse whisper. "I... I don't know how to do this. How to be... vulnerable."
Aria smiled gently, her eyes warm and understanding. She continued to stroke his hair, her touch gentle and soothing. "It's okay. You don't have to know how. Just take it one step at a time. Let us in, little by little. We're here to support you, to help you carry the weight."
Luffy nodded, taking in her words. Her presence comforted him, her understanding and acceptance making him feel safe. He leaned his forehead against her chest, his arms instinctively coming up to wrap around her in a loose embrace. He let out a shaky breath, the weight of his vulnerabilities finally finding release.
Aria held him close, her arms wrapping around him in a gentle embrace. She rested her chin on his head, speaking softly. "You're doing great. Being vulnerable takes courage. It takes strength. And you have both of those things, Luffy. You're the most courageous and strong person I know."
Luffy's breath hitched at her words, a mix of emotions swirling within him. He felt vulnerable, raw, yet there was also a sense of relief in being seen, being understood by her. He tightened his arms around her, as if anchoring himself to her presence.
Aria continued to soothe him, her hands rubbing gentle circles on his back. She understood the enormity of this moment, the trust he was placing in her. She knew he was not used to this, to being vulnerable, to letting down his guard. She decided to give him a little push, a gentle prompt to open up fully.
Aria spoke softly, her voice gentle yet encouraging. "You can tell me anything, Luffy. Whatever you're feeling, whatever you're holding onto, you can share it with me. I'm here to listen."
Luffy's grip on her tightened for a moment, his face still buried against her chest. His body shuddering against hers, he was silent for a moment. Then, finally, he spoke, his voice a whispered hoarseness that mirrored the rawness of his emotions. "The weight of being a captain... the responsibility... it's overwhelming..."
Aria listened intently, her heart aching at his words. She could only imagine the immense weight he felt on his shoulders as a captain. She continued to hold him, her hands rubbing comforting circles on his back. "It's okay," she said gently. "It's okay to feel overwhelmed. You're not expected to carry everything by yourself."
Luffy let out a shaky exhale, the truth of her words hitting him. He had always tried to be the strong captain, the one who always had a plan, who never showed weakness. Yet, here he was, admitting his feelings of being overwhelmed. "I... I don't want to let them down... my crew... my friends..."
Aria smiled softly, her hands still stroking his back. "And you won't. You're a great captain, Luffy. But you're allowed to be human, too. It doesn't make you weak to feel overwhelmed sometimes. Your crew knows that. They love you for who you are."
A lump formed in Luffy's throat as he took in her words. Her understanding and acceptance was exactly what he needed to hear. He lifted his head from her chest, now able to look into her eyes. "I... I don't want to burden them with my feelings."
Aria shook her head gently, her eyes meeting his with unwavering certainty. "You're not a burden, Luffy. Your feelings, your emotions, they matter. They matter to us, to your crew. Letting us know how you're feeling, it's not a weakness or a burden. It's a part of being human."
Luffy's eyes welled up again, the weight of her words sinking in. He had never considered that way. For so long, he had believed that he had to be strong for everyone, that showing his feelings would be a weakness. But hearing her, it felt different, as if a weight was slowly lifting from his shoulders.
Aria smiled at him, her eyes soft and caring. "You don't have to keep everything bottled up. We're your crew, your friends. We want to be there for you, even in the tough times. You're allowed to feel, to be vulnerable, to let us know when you're feeling overwhelmed. It doesn't make you any less of a captain or a person."
Luffy nodded, the tears now freely flowing down his cheeks. He leaned into her again, seeking comfort. Her words echoed in his mind, slowly beginning to believe them. She was making him realize that it was okay to not be strong all the time, that he didn't have to carry the weight alone.
Aria held him tightly, her arms firmly around him, her head resting on his. She continued to whisper soothing words, a soft mantra of affirmation and love "You're alright... Let it out... I'm here... You're not alone..."
Luffy clutched her tighter, his body shaking as the weight of his emotions began to pour out. He hadn't realized how much he had been holding back, how much he had needed this. He let go, finally, allowing himself to cry and release the pain and fear he had kept inside. With each sob, with each shuddering breath, it was as if a little more of his burden was being lifted.
Aria held him through it all, whispering soothing words, rubbing circles on his back. She just held him, offered the comfort he needed. She didn't try to stop his tears or tell him to toughen up. Instead, she allowed him to feel everything, to release all the emotions he had kept bottled up for so long.
Eventually, Luffy's sobs slowed down, his breathing becoming steadier. The weight, though not completely gone yet, felt lighter. He looked up at her, his eyes swollen but there was a new look in them. A bit of relief, a bit of exhaustion, but there was also a sense of acceptance, a realization that he didn't have to shoulder everything alone.
Luffy leaned against her again, his head on her chest, listening to her steady heartbeat. The soothing feel of her arms around him, her hands rubbing his back, it was comforting, grounding. With a voice hoarse from crying, he spoke, a hint of gratitude in his words. "Thank you..."
Aria smiled, still holding him, one hand now gently running through his hair. "It's alright, Luffy. You don't have to thank me. That's what friends are for... that's what I'm here for."
Luffy closed his eyes, her words and her touch making him feel protected, cared for, and more importantly, understood. He snuggled closer to her, his arms wrapped around her middle, as if he never wanted to let go.
A comfortable silence fell between them, the only sound being the soft sound of their breathing and the gentle rhythm of their beating hearts. The moment felt intimate and serene, a rarity in their adventurous life. It was just the two of them, their emotions bared, their bond deeper than before.
After a while, Luffy spoke again, his voice barely above a whisper "It's... It's hard, you know? Being a captain. Knowing that the lives of my crew... my friends... they depend on me. Sometimes... I just... I feel like I'm not good enough, like I'm gonna let them down..."
Aria listened attentively, her hand gently caressing his hair. She understood his fears, understood the weight of his responsibilities. But she also knew that he underestimated himself, that he was much stronger, much more capable than he gave himself credit for.
Aria spoke gently, her voice a soothing murmur "You are good enough, Luffy. You're a great captain. And yes, you're going to make mistakes. We all do. But those mistakes don't define you. They make you human. They make you learn. And your crew, they follow you for a reason. Because they trust you, they believe in you. Because you're the one who always pulls through."
Luffy was quiet as he listened, her words penetrating his doubts. He knew she was right, but sometimes, self-doubt could be hard to shake off. The fact that she saw past all that and spoke the truth straight to his face, it meant more than she probably realized.
He nodded slowly, his grip on her tightening. "You really think so?"
Aria smiled softly, her eyes meeting his. "I know so. I've seen you in battle, I've seen you lead the crew. You are someone they look up to, you lead by example. And while you make dumb mistakes or decisions sometimes, you always make the right call when it matters most."
Luffy chuckled lightly at her comment about his dumb decisions, a trace of the usual mischievous smile returning to his lips. "Yeah, I guess I do kinda screw up a lot.."
His gaze softened as she continued, her words washing away some of his lingering doubts. Her reassurance, her faith in him, it was like a balm, soothing the wounds inside him.
Aria chuckled lightly, a soft smile on her lips. "But that's part of your charm, you know. The unpredictability, the spontaneity." She paused, looking into his eyes intently. "And the heart. You have an enormous heart. You care deeply for your crew, everyone around you. You're willing to do anything for them. That's rare. And that's one of the things I admire most about you."
Luffy's eyes widened slightly at her words, surprise mingled with a mix of vulnerability and gratitude. Few people truly understood the depth of his feelings, how much he would do for the people he cared about. But she got it. She saw not just the carefree persona he usually showed to the world, but the person beneath, the true heart of him.
He tightened his arms around her, feeling safer and more seen than he had in a long while.
Aria continued to gently stroke his hair, her touch relaxing and comforting. She knew that Luffy was still processing it all, his emotions raw, his heart exposed. But she also knew that sharing one's vulnerabilities, opening up, it was all a part of trust, of connection.
She broke the silence, her voice soft and earnest, "Luffy, you're not just a captain. You're a friend. A kind, loyal, and loving friend. That's who you really are. Don't forget that."
Luffy's eyes met hers again, his expression intense and vulnerable. The weight of her words, the sincerity in her eyes, it was almost overwhelming. He wanted to say so much, but for once words were failing him, caught in his throat by a jumble of emotions he wasn't used to feeling or expressing.
He swallowed hard, his voice thick as he finally managed to speak. "Thank you, Aria. For... for everything."
Aria smiled warmly, her hand still moving in soothing circles on his back. She could tell that he was struggling to express what was on his mind, but she knew that sometimes actions spoke louder than words.
She leaned in slightly, pulling him closer, letting him feel the warmth and security of her presence. "You don't have to thank me," she whispered softly. "I'm here for you, whenever you need me. You're not alone."
Luffy's breath caught in his throat as her body pressed against his, her warmth seeping into him. Her words, her touch, it was exactly what he needed in that moment. He felt safe, cared for, understood. Letting go of whatever defenses he had left, he buried his face into her shoulder, holding her tightly. She was like an anchor, keeping him grounded in the storm of emotions inside him.
Aria continued to hold him, her embrace strong and secure. She could feel his breath on her neck, his heartbeat thudding against her chest. They stayed like this for a while, neither speaking, simply finding comfort in each other's presence. She continued to stroke his hair, her other hand rubbing circles on his back, giving him space to feel, to process, to start repairing his emotional wounds.
After what felt like an eternity and yet also not long enough, Luffy pulled back slightly, his head still cradled against her shoulder. He took a deep, shaky breath, trying to compose himself. The storm of his emotions had started to calm, leaving behind a sense of quietness, a bit of emptiness but also a sense of... relief.
He lifted his head slightly, looking at Aria with a mixture of gratitude and something more he was afraid to put a name to. Her eyes met his, full of unwavering compassion and understanding. He swallowed again, his voice just a whisper. "Aria... I don't know what I would do without you."
Aria's eyes softened, a flicker of something else, something deeper, passing through them. She reached up and cupped his face in her hand, her touch gentle. A small, soft smile tugged at her lips. "You don't have to worry about that, Luffy," she said softly. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."
She leans her face close to his and softly kisses his lips. Luffy's eyes widen in surprise, his breath catching in his throat. The warmth and tenderness of the gesture stirs a flurry of emotions within him, a mixture of surprise, happiness, and a hint of something deeper, something he had never felt before. The initial shock gives way to a wave of feelings that he hadn't expected, making his heart race and his stomach flip.
Slowly, hesitantly, he begins to kiss her back, his lips moving in an unsure, almost clumsy way. The kiss is more tentative than confident, a reflection of the newness and vulnerability of the situation for him. Yet, the more they kiss, the more he seems to get lost in the moment.
His hands, shaky and uncertain, found their way to her hips, holding her close, anchoring him to the moment. The kiss deepens, the shyness gives way to something more, something bolder, something raw.
For a few seconds, it's as if the world around them fades into the background, leaving only them and the connection they're building.
Finally, they pull apart, the kiss ending as suddenly as it had begun. Luffy's heart is racing. He looks at Aria, his eyes wide, his mind a tangle of emotions he's not sure how to untangle just yet. He opens his mouth to speak, but no words come out, his vocal cords still caught up in the whirlwind of feelings coursing through him.
Aria smiles at him, understanding and tenderness written all over her face. She reaches up, smoothing her hand across his cheek, still flushed from the kiss. "You okay there, Luffy?" she teases gently, her voice light and affectionate.
Luffy takes a shuddering breath, trying to find some semblance of composure as he nods, his eyes still a bit dazed. "Y-yeah," he manages, his voice still a bit unsteady. "Yeah, I'm... I'm good."
She can't help but find his reaction adorable. She looks down for a moment, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Luffy's heart flutters as he realizes that he's not the only one who's affected. He can see the slight blush on her cheeks, the slight nervous tuck of her hair. The realization that she is just as nervous as he is makes his heart beat even faster, and a soft smile tugs at the corner of his lips.
He reaches out a hand, cupping her face gently, his fingertips brushing lightly over her skin. He looks at her, his eyes filled with an earnest vulnerability. "You... you have no idea how you make me feel, do you?" he murmurs, his voice low and sincere.
Aria's eyes widen, her breath catching in her throat. She can see the honest emotion in his gaze, the vulnerability in his words. Her heart pounds in her chest, and she can feel her own feelings start to surface, a mix of tenderness, excitement, and a hint of the same uncertainty that Luffy is expressing.
She takes a deep breath, trying to steady her own racing heartbeat. She smiles softly, her hand reaching up to cover his, still on her cheek. She leans into his touch, her eyes never leaving his. "I think... I might have an idea," she replies softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "But... I'd rather hear you say it."
Luffy swallows hard, his heart now hammering against his rib cage. The raw honesty in her eyes makes him want to be just as sincere, just as vulnerable. He takes a deep breath, gathering his courage. "I... I've never felt this way about anyone," he begins, his voice a little shaky. "You... you make me feel things I've never felt before. Things I didn't know I could feel."
He pauses for a moment, struggling to find the right words to express the maelstrom of emotions within him. "You make me happy, but it's more than that. You... you make me feel alive. When I'm with you, I feel like I can do anything, be anyone. It's... it's scary, but it's also amazing..."
He pulls his hand back from her face, running it through his hair, a bit of his usual restless energy returning. "But I also get scared, you know? Terrified even. Because you... you matter. You matter so damn much to me. And the thought of losing you... it's scarier than any battle I've ever fought."
He glances away, his eyes focusing on a point over her shoulder. It's a moment of raw honesty, a glimpse into the fears that lurk beneath his carefree exterior. "I don't want to lose you, Aria," he says, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know how to do this... this love thing. But I know how much you mean to me. And I... I don't want to mess this up."
Aria listens, her heart swelling with tenderness as she hears his words. The vulnerability in his eyes, the way his voice trembles, it all touches her deeply. She reaches out, taking his hand in hers, her thumb caressing over his knuckles.
He looks down at their hands, the contrast between his rough, calloused skin and her smooth, soft one. He laces his fingers gently with hers, his hold tight, as if he's afraid she'll slip away.
"Luffy..." she whispers, her voice tender and filled with affection. "You won't mess this up. I won't let you. We'll figure this out together, okay? You don't have to worry about losing me. I'm here, I'm staying, and I'm not going anywhere."
Luffy can feel a lump in his throat as her words wash over him. It's a mixture of relief and an intense wave of gratitude and love. He swallows hard, trying to control his emotions, but it's a struggle. "You... you promise?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper, his eyes meeting hers, filled with a mix of hope and uncertainty.
Aria nods, her smile tender and reassuring. She gives his hand a gentle squeeze, wanting to convey her sincerity. "I promise," she affirms softly. "I'm not going anywhere, Luffy. You're stuck with me now."
Luffy lets out a breath he didn't even realize he was holding. Her words, her reassurance, they soothe his frayed nerves and quiet some of the fears that had been gnawing at him.
He looks down at their intertwined hands again, his thumb tracing a slow circle on her skin. The touch is a small, subtle comfort and a silent expression of the bond between them. He takes another deep breath before looking back up at her, his eyes a little brighter, a small smile on his lips.
"Yeah, I guess I'm stuck with you," he says, his tone lighter, a hint of his usual playfulness returning. "But I'm okay with that. You're not so bad, after all."
Ava smiles softly, rolling her eyes at his comment. She knows it's a bit of a defense mechanism, a way to lighten the emotional tension. She decides to play along. "Not so bad, huh? That's the best compliment you can muster?" she teases lightly.
Luffy grins, the usual twinkle in his eye returning. He's always been more comfortable with banter and lighthearted moments. "Hey, 'not so bad' from me is practically a glowing endorsement. You should be honored."
Aria laughs, her heart feeling lighter. She knows how to handle Luffy's playful banter. "Oh, so 'not so bad' from you is equivalent to high praise, huh? I see how it is. I should feel privileged then, right?"
Luffy nods, his smile widening. He loves the banter, the easy way they can go back and forth, teasing each other. "Exactly. 'Not so bad' from me is practically the same as being the best. So yeah, you should feel pretty darn privileged."
Aria chuckles, shaking her head at his ego. But it's all in good fun. She loves their playful exchanges. "Oh, so you're the authority on what counts as good company then, huh? What makes you the expert?"
Luffy puffed out his chest a bit, playing up the bravado. He gave her a self-assured grin. "Me, of course. I know what's good. I'm the future King of the Pirates. I have high standards. So if I say you're 'not so bad,' you know you're doing something right."
Aria raises an eyebrow, pretending to look unimpressed. "Well, excuse me, Your Highness. I didn't realize I was dealing with such high standards. I should really feel special then, shouldn't I?"
Luffy grins even wider at her sarcastic response. He likes that she's not afraid to give it right back. "Damn right, you should feel special. Who else has the privilege of being deemed 'not so bad' by the future King of the Pirates? It's an exclusive club, you know."
Aria laughs, unable to keep up the pretense of being unimpressed. She can't help but find his bravado hilariously endearing. "Oh, so I'm in an exclusive club now, am I? I suppose I should start planning my VIP membership card."
Luffy laughs heartily, loving this banter. "Damn right, you are. And as an exclusive member, you're entitled to VIP treatment. You get the deluxe 'not so bad' experience from me, free of charge."
Ava chuckles, raising an eyebrow in mock disbelief. "Oh, you're too kind, really. I feel so honored to be part of this exclusive club. But tell me, what are the privileges of this VIP treatment? Anything beyond the 'not so bad' experience?"
Luffy pretends to ponder thoughtfully, though his eyes are gleaming with mischief. "Well, besides the 'not so bad' privilege, you get exclusive access to my witty banter, my unique sense of humor, and my undeniable charm. You also get the rare opportunity to witness firsthand my incredible adventures and watch me become the Pirate King. That's like getting the front-row seat to the greatest show on earth."
Ava tries to keep a straight face but fails, a giggle slipping out at his description. "Wow, how could I ever turn down access to all that? Who needs anything else when I have the privilege of witnessing your charm and witnessing firsthand your journey to become the Pirate King? Where do I sign up?"
Luffy smirks, loving her genuine reaction. "No need to sign up. You're already in, remember? But there's another exclusive perk."
Aria raises an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Another one? This VIP treatment just keeps getting better and better. What's the other exclusive perk?"
Mischief dances in Luffy's eyes as he grins. "Well, it's quite special. You get the honor of being the only one to have my undivided attention, even when I'm distracted by food. That's right, you get to be more important than food. That's how special you are."
Aria feigns shock at hearing Luffy say he'd choose her over food.
Luffy grins, enjoying her reaction. "Can't believe it, huh? But it's true. You're the only one who could distract me from food, and that's saying a lot. I mean, I love food. But I'd rather spend time with you than eat my favorite meal."
Aria can't keep up the surprised act anymore. She feels the warm flutter in her chest. "I never thought I'd hear the day when you'd choose someone over food. I feel honored to hold such a special place in your heart, even if it means beating out food."
Luffy grins, his expression softening. "Food is important, no doubt. But you... You're something else entirely. You've got a special place in my heart that nothing else can replace. So yeah, you beat food, hands down."
Aria's heart skips a beat at his words. She's touched by his candid admission, and it makes her feel even closer to him. "I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad to be more important than food to you. It means a lot to me, Luffy."
Luffy reaches out and takes her hand again, his expression sincere. "You are important to me, Aria. You're more important than food, more important than any of my adventures. You're important in a way I can't explain. You're just... important. That's all there is to it."
Aria's cheeks flush a gentle pink as his words fill her heart with so many emotions. She laces her fingers with his, the feeling of their hands intertwined giving her comfort and reassurance. "And you're important to me too, Luffy. Beyond important. You're everything."
Luffy grins, feeling a sense of satisfaction at her words. He can feel the depth of her emotions and responds with a squeeze of her hand. "Guess we're both stuck being pretty damn important to each other then."
Aria laughs softly, a mix of amusement and affection in her eyes. "Yeah, I guess we are. And I wouldn't have it any other way."
They remain in each other's presence, their hands still intertwined, enjoying the moment. The connection between them is palpable, and they bask in the comfort and intimacy of each other's company. Their bond has grown even stronger, and the trust they share is undeniable. Luffy glances at Aria, a soft, reassuring smile on his face as he gives her hand another gentle squeeze.
Aria returns his smile, her eyes filled with warmth and affection. She can feel her heart beating faster as she gazes at him, the emotions she feels for him growing stronger with each passing moment. They sit in comfortable silence, the world around them fading away for a while as they relish in the closeness and connection they share.
Luffy breaks the silence, his voice soft and filled with sincerity. "Aria, there's something I've been wanting to ask you."
Aria turns her attention to Luffy, her eyes meeting his as she gives him a curious yet affectionate smile. "Sure, what is it?"
Luffy hesitates for a moment, searching for the right words. He takes a deep breath, his gaze holding hers. "I've been thinking a lot about us... about what we have between us."
Aria can feel her heart accelerating at the seriousness in his tone. She listens intently, her eyes never leaving his as she waits for him to continue.
Luffy swallows, his expression earnest and sincere. "I just want to make sure we're on the same page. I... I care about you, Aria. A lot. You're not just a crewmate to me. You're something more... something special. I need to know if you feel the same."
Aria's heart skips a beat, her pulse quickening as she takes in his words. She can feel the sincerity and vulnerability in his voice, and it touches her deeply. Without hesitation, she responds, her voice soft yet resolute. "Luffy, I feel the same way. You're not just a captain to me either. You... you mean so much to me. You have my heart, completely."
Luffy's chest swells with a mix of relief and happiness. He can feel his heart pounding in his chest, a smile spreading across his face at her words. He takes her hand in his again, his grip firm and reassuring. "Good. I'm glad we feel the same. I was worried I was going to screw this up or something. You know I'm not the best with words or expressing emotions."
Aria laughs softly, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "I know, Luffy. You're not exactly the most verbally eloquent, but you don't need to be. Your actions speak louder than words. And your actions, they show me how much you care. That's more important to me than anything."
Luffy grins, his expression softening as he runs his thumb gently over her knuckles. "You always know just what to say to make me feel better, don't you? I'm glad you see me, the real me. Not many do, you know?"
Aria nods, her eyes filled with understanding and appreciation. "I do, Luffy. I see the real you, not just the pirate or the captain. I see the person inside, the one you don't always show the world. And to me, that's the most important part."
Luffy feels a wave of gratitude wash over him. He squeezes her hand gently, appreciative of her acceptance and understanding. "You really get me, you know that? You see me for who I am, and you don't try to change me or fix me. You just accept me, quirks and all."
Aria smiles, her gaze warm and affectionate. "Of course, Luffy. Why would I want to change you? You're perfect just the way you are. Your quirks and flaws make you who you are. The things I love about you. I wouldn't alter a single thing."
Luffy's heart warms at her words. He can feel a sense of security and comfort in knowing that she loves and accepts him for who he is, even with his flaws and imperfections. "You have no idea how much that means to me, Aria. Having someone who accepts me, flaws and all... it's a first for me. I'm not used to that kind of unwavering acceptance."
Aria moves closer, her eyes never leaving his. She gently brushes a strand of hair out of his face, her touch soft and affectionate. "You deserve that, Luffy. You deserve to be accepted for who you are, flaws and all. You're a good person, with a big heart and a kind soul. And I'm here to accept and love every part of you."
Luffy's heart swells with warmth and affection at her words. He reaches out and gently tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her cheek for a moment. "Thank you, Aria. Having you by my side, knowing that you accept me unconditionally... it's a feeling I've never had before. It's like a weight lifted from my shoulders, knowing that I can just be myself with you, that I don't have to put on a mask or pretend to be someone I'm not."
Aria leans into his touch, her eyes closing briefly at the sensation of his fingers on her skin. She smiles softly, her heart fluttering in her chest. "You don't have to pretend or put on a front with me, Luffy. I love you exactly as you are, quirks and all. You can be yourself around me, always."
Luffy's heart skips a beat at her words. He can feel a wave of emotion wash over him, his grip on her hand tightening slightly as he gazes into her eyes. "You... you really love me, don't you? Even with all the crazy things I do, the trouble I cause, the impulsivity... you still love me?"
Aria laughs softly, her expression filled with warmth and affection. "Yes, Luffy. I love you exactly as you are, impulsivity and all. You're goofy, sometimes a bit reckless, and unpredictable, but that's part of why I love you. You bring excitement and adventure to my life. And I wouldn't want you any other way."
Luffy grins at her words, a sense of relief and happiness washing over him. He pulls her a little closer, his free hand gently resting on her hip. "I'm glad you see it that way. Because let's face it, I'm never going to change. I'm going to keep being impulsive and unpredictable, and I'm going to get us into all kinds of trouble. And I hope you're ready for that."
Aria laughs again, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, you know I am, Luffy. You and your impulsivity are part of the package deal. I accepted that a long time ago when I decided to join your crew. I wouldn't have it any other way. Besides, it keeps things interesting, right?"
Luffy nods, his grin widening. "Exactly! Things would be pretty boring if I was always predictable. And that's not who I am, anyway. I live for the thrill, the adventure, the unexpected! And having you by my side makes it all the more fun and exciting."
Aria chuckles, her gaze softening as she leans her head against his shoulder. She can feel his pulse against her skin, his warmth encompassing her. "I'm always going to be here, Luffy. We're in this together, no matter what. The good, the bad, and the adventurous. I have your back, even if you're sometimes a little reckless."
Luffy wraps his arms around her, pulling her in closer. He rests his chin on the top of her head, his heart swelling with affection and gratitude. "I know you are, Aria. I can always count on you. You're the only person I feel like I can truly be myself and completely let my guard down around. I trust you completely, and that's something I don't give easily."
Aria's heart flutters in her chest at his words. She melts into his embrace, her eyelids fluttering closed as she snuggles closer. "You can always count on me, Luffy. I'll always be here for you, no matter what. And I feel the same way – I trust you completely, with all my heart."
Luffy's grip on her tightens slightly, his arms wrapping around her in a protective embrace. He nuzzles his face against her hair, inhaling the scent of her shampoo.
Luffy's heart feels light, his chest swelling with affection. He presses his lips against the top of her head, holding her close, savoring her warmth and scent. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Aria," he murmurs against her hair. "You've become such a big part of my life... my world."
Aria smiles, her eyes still closed, her heart racing at his words. She turns her head, resting her cheek against his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heart. "And you're a big part of mine, Luffy. You've changed my life in so many ways, for the better. I couldn't imagine my life without you in it now."
Luffy's fingers trace gentle circles on her back, his touch gentle and tender. He pulls her even closer, wanting to be as close to her as possible. The words they said earlier, the confessions of love, echo in his mind, still fresh and new. He hesitates for a moment, then speaks softly into her hair. "Aria, can I ask you something?"
Aria lifts her head slightly, her eyes opening and meeting his gaze. She can sense the hesitance in his voice, and her heart skips a beat. "Of course. You can ask me anything."
Luffy's expression turns serious, his eyes searching hers. He takes a deep breath, collecting his thoughts. "When we were on that uninhabited island, and that man was controlling the elements... seeing you throw rocks at him to distract him because you were worried he'd hurt me..." He pauses for a moment, his voice quieter, almost shy. "Why did you do that? You put yourself at risk to protect me. Why?"
"Because... I love you, dummy." she replied softly.
Luffy's eyes widen, his heart leaping in his chest. Her words, spoken with such simplicity and conviction, hit him hard. He swallows, his throat suddenly dry. He wants to speak, but the words are caught in his throat. After a moment, he finds his voice again. "You... you did that because you love me?"
She nods. "I think in my heart... even then I knew that I did, even if I didn't admit it to myself."
Luffy stares at her for a moment, utterly dumbfounded by her words. The thought of her loving him even then, being willing to put herself in harm's way for his sake... it shakes him to his core. He gathers her even closer in his arms, embracing her fiercely, as if to keep her safe from the world. "You're reckless, woman. You could've gotten hurt..."
"It wouldn't been worth it if it meant keeping you and the crew safe." Aria replied.
Luffy squeezes her tighter, his eyes closing as he buries his face in her hair. "You... you shouldn't have taken such a risk. Not for me. I can take care of myself."
Aria wraps her arms around him, holding him just as tightly. "I know you can. But I couldn't stand by and watch you get hurt if there was something I could do to help. You're important to me, and I care about you. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to you and I just stood there doing nothing."
Luffy pulls back, looking into her eyes, his gaze intense. "But what if you had gotten hurt? What if something had happened to you? I don't know what I'd do if you..." He swallows harshly, his voice cracking slightly. The thought of something happening to her, of her getting hurt because of him, is unbearable.
Aria reaches up, gently cupping his face in her hands. "But I didn't. I'm here with you, and I'm fine. And I would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant keeping you safe."
Luffy lets out a long sigh, leaning into her touch. He knows she's not going to back down from this, that she's stubborn and determined and will do whatever she feels is right. But that doesn't make him worry any less. He brings a hand up, tracing a finger along her jawline. "You're infuriating, you know that?"
Aria can't help but grin at his words, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "And you're stubborn and reckless. We make a good pair, don't you think?"
Luffy lets out a grumble, knowing she's right. He can be a stubborn and rash fool, and there's no point in arguing that. But he can't deny that there's a certain truth in her words. "Hmph. Maybe. But you still shouldn't be throwing yourself into danger like that. It's not safe."
Aria rolls her eyes affectionately. "I know it's not safe, but sometimes you have to take risks to do what's right. And when it comes to protecting the people you love, I'll take that risk any day."
Luffy's heart clenches in his chest at her words. He knows how sincere she is, how fiercely protective she can be. It's part of what he loves about her. But it still scares him, knowing how willing she is to put herself in harm's way for his sake.
Luffy lets out another sigh, a mixture of frustration and concern etched on his face. He looks down at her, his eyes studying her face. He's both touched and worried about her. He brings a hand up to brush a strand of hair from her face, his touch gentle. "I love that about you. I do. But... I don't want to see you get hurt. Ever."
Aria smiles at him, her gaze soft and filled with understanding. She knows his concern is coming from a place of love, and she appreciates it. She brings a hand up to rest on his chest, over his heart. "I know, Luffy. And I promise I'll be careful. I won't put myself in unnecessary danger. But I also can't just stand by and do nothing when you or the crew are in trouble."
Luffy lets out a huff, his expression softening a bit. He knows his protests are futile, that she's not going to change. He brings his free hand over hers, trapping her palm against his chest. "You're too stubborn for your own good, woman."
Aria grins at him, her smile warm and playful. "And you're a stubborn, reckless idiot. We already established that."
Luffy lets out a mock gasp, mock offended by her words. He pulls her closer, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Hey, watch it. I'm your stubborn, reckless idiot."
Aria laughs, her eyes sparkling with mirth. She leans into him, resting her head on his chest. "That you are. But I wouldn't have you any other way."
