"She was so upset, Petz. You'd think a girl like that with all the friends and family would have at least one person who would step up and help her." Berthier leaned back on the counter, snacking on some of the scrap pieces of carrot her older sister had put aside.

Scowling into the wok as she stirred the vegetables, Petz nodded. "Her mother seems to scare her the most. Just because those girls were her protectors in another lifetime, doesn't make them good friends either."

"Well, then we should have her over more. And maybe one or two of the others to see if they can be good friends." Berthier walked over to the pantry and took out some dried seaweed snacks. "Maybe the boyfriend?"

Calaveras wandered in then. "Ick, whose boyfriend? I am done with men. They're the absolute worst!" She stole the bag of snacks from Berthier, looking annoyed.

"Sugar Daddy problems?" Berthier quipped, taking the bag back to get a handful.

"He didn't have the funds for that. Hmph." Calaveras sighed and sat down at the little dining room table. "But that wasn't the problem. Married! The jerk."

Petz turned the temperature down on the burner and added some chili paste. "Well, you could maybe pick someone respectable now and again."

Berthier stood between them, regretting starting the teasing. "Don't you two start! Calaveras, we were talking about Usagi becoming a more regular friend. Maybe inviting her and her boyfriend, and a couple of friends over. Though in light of your newfound distaste for men, I suppose we could skip inviting him."

"Oh, definitely. He's creepy. Thought he was a hotty at first, but then I found out that boy is in college and Usagi was fourteen when they met. Super weird, past life love doesn't make it less weird." Calaveras leaned over her sister's shoulder to peek into the wok. "That smells good."

"Even if it's creepy, we know how it ends, don't we? Crystal Tokyo, marriage, the pink haired wonder." Berthier wrinkled her nose a little as she put the snacks away.

"Well, that's a long way away. She can have supportive friends now. And you won't stir up trouble unless she asks, Calaveras." Petz turned the burner off and went to the sink to pick up the tofu she had strained off earlier to cut it into neat pieces. "Much as I imagine he's about as useful as her supposed friends," she added under her breath.

Luna jumped when Usagi sneezed. "Are you coming down with something?" She jumped up onto the desk to look at her charge.

"No, I don't think so. Must be dust." Usagi wiped her nose and crumpled the tissue up to throw in the trash. She straightened, looking down at her almost finished homework. Since Berthier had explained it, it wasn't so stressful.

Looking over her shoulder, Luna was surprised. "You're almost finished. Did Ami help you at school?"

Slumping a little, Usagi shook her head. "No… I did it myself. Berthier showed me a way that worked better for me."

"That's wonderful, Usagi. Berthier? The one from the Black Moon Kingdom?" The little black cat looked puzzled, not having realized she was in touch with her.

"Yes! She's tutoring people now. I owe her money. Oh! I should dig through my piggy bank!" Jumping up, she went to look for some money for her friend.
