Trial
(With Bella)
Bella was in her room. She was a nervous wreck. In a few hours she was going to be going to a trial in the magical world. She had no idea what to wear. She didn't want to embarrass herself, her father, or Harry. All her clothes were plain and boring. It made her worry.
'What if I make a fool of myself?' She asked as she changed her outfit one more time.
Knock Knock
"Who is it?" She asked.
"Harry. Are you decent?" He asked.
"Yeah. Come in." She said.
"Thank you. How are you doing?" He asked, sitting at her desk.
"I'm fine." She lied.
"Bella." He gave her a knowing look.
"I am nervous." She admitted.
"Thought so. Listen, don't be. Both your father and I will be there for you. The prosecutor also knows and will help you out as much as she can. These magical trials are similar to non-magical ones. Plus many American wizards and witches don't care about your magical status. You will be fine." He said.
That did make her feel better. "Thank you. Am I dressed okay?" She asked.
"You look good. You look very professional." He told her.
"Good, good." She sighed in relief.
"Have you eaten?" He asked.
"No. I felt too nervous." She answered.
"I thought so. There is toast on the table. You need to eat something." Harry said to her.
"Thank you." She said.
"You're welcome." He said before he left her room.
Bella went to the kitchen and ate the toast. She felt a little better after that. Soon the three met in the living room. Charlie hugged his daughter. He knew she was nervous. He had to admit he was. The lawyer the defendant hired was known for getting his client off. Many suspected that his tactics involved bribes and blackmail.
"Ready?" He asked her.
"I am." Bella answered.
"Okay. Hold onto me." He said.
"Okay."
She grabbed his arm and he apparated them both to the court house. Harry was already there. He caught the girl as she fell to her knees. She felt sick. Both her father and Harry warned her of what side apparition felt like but this was worse than she could imagine. She drank the potion Harry gave her. It was disgusting but at least she didn't feel so sick anymore.
"Thank you." She said.
"You're welcome. I wish this potion was around the first time someone apparated with me." He said.
"I bet." She said.
"Are you ready to go in or do you need a moment?" Charlie asked.
"I can go in." She answered.
"Okay." He said.
The three entered the courthouse. Bella was stunned when many people turned and bowed at Harry. Some were even throwing themselves at his feet. She thought he was exaggerating when he said that many British wizards and witches worshiped him. Harry ignored them and kept walking. He knew some might take him being nice to them as him being interested in them and he couldn't deal with that again.
"You weren't kidding." She said, stunned.
"I wish I was." He said.
"It's disgusting." She said after an old man offered up his teenage daughter.
"I know." He said.
Soon they were in the courtroom. Harry smiled when he saw Kingsley. He went over and hugged the British Minister. He was happy to see him. After the hug Charlie and Kingsley shook hands, The man then asked Bella how she was doing.
"I'm okay. It gets better as the days go on." She answered.
"That's good." He smiled.
"Lord Potter." A blonde female smirked.
"Skeeter." He nodded to her.
"Skeeter." Kingsley's tone held a warning in it.
"Minister." She lost the smirk.
"Remember you are in America." He reminded her.
"Yes sir." She walked away.
"Rude bitch." Kingsley muttered.
"Agreed." Harry said.
Bella and Charlie stared at the two, stunned. Harry saw the looks and quickly explained. After that they also agreed that Rita Skeeter was a bitch. She somehow managed to keep her job at the paper even after some laws were put into place to better protect people from lies.
"We better sit down. It's almost time for the trial to start." The British minister said.
"You're right." The green eyed wizard said.
The group sat down and waited. They all ignored the reporters taking pictures. The American reporters didn't but those from Britain did. The foreign reporters weren't aware of the spells that were in the courtroom. One spell prevented pictures from being taken. If one tried the picture would show up blank. Just like if they tried to release information to the public before it was allowed the information would either be erased or the person talking would find that they were unable to talk about it.
"All rise for the honorable Judge Fenton." A bailiff said.
Everyone stood and the judge entered the room. The judge was a blonde man that looked like he took no shit from anyone. His brown eyes were cold and hard. He soon sat down and everyone else followed. He looked around the room before looking at the court scribe.
"The trial started at 11:15 in the morning." He said, causing the scribe to quickly write it down. "Prosecution may give their opening statement."
"I-" The prosecutor was cut off.
"Why am I being prosecuted here in America? I'm British." The defendant sneered.
"Oh my Merlin." Her lawyer groaned. "I told you why. Now shut up before the judge finds you in contempt."
"Bu-"
"Shut up!" He hissed.
"Hmph!" She crossed her arms and glared.
"Thank you." He rolled his eyes.
"Thank you Mr. Tapp." The judge said.
"You're welcome. I'm sorry Miss Crawford." He gave her a nod.
"Thank you." She said, "Miss Swan, a squib with no knowledge of the magical world was the victim of a cursed bracelet. It changed her personality and turned her into a rude jerk. Luckily someone noticed and that is how we became aware of the cursed bracelet. It belonged to the LeStrange family. Reticulum LeStrange sent Miss Swan the bracelet knowing it was cursed. She did so because of Miss Swan being a squib. Personality curses tend to make the person worse and worse until the person is the worst of the worse. They tend to murder, get killed, or commit suicide. Miss LeStrange sent the bracelet in hopes of causing Miss Swan's death." She said before sitting down.
The jury looked at the defendant and could see the smirk. It did the woman no favors. The lawyer saw where they were looking and looked. He wanted to groan. His client was an idiot. He had a feeling she was going to be found guilty. He was glad he had multiple plans.
"Defense." The judge looked at him.
"Reticulum LeStrange was raised to be the bride of a British terrorist. She was raised to hate squibs. She had no idea how wrong her actions were. She shouldn't be punished for doing what she was trained to do. Please find it in you to send this woman to the hospital for help, not a prison." He said before sitting down.
"You may call your witness." The judge said to the prosecutor.
"I call Bella Swan to the stand." She said.
Charlie and Harry gave her a pat on the shoulder before she stood. She took a deep breath and went to the stand. She was sworn in and she sat down. She tried to keep her nerves at bay as she looked at Miss Crawford.
"Do you know Miss LeStrange?" She asked.
"No. This is the first time I have ever seen her." She answered.
"You were sent a bracelet, correct?" She asked.
"Correct." She said.
"You were under the impression a friend sent it to you, right?" She asked.
"Yes I was. The note that came with it had my friend's name on it." She said.
"Did you thank them?" She asked.
"Yes. I called and thanked her. The person on the phone sounded just like her."
"So because you believed a friend sent it to you, you put it on?" She asked.
"Yes."
"Do you recall what happened after that?" She asked.
"Somewhat. I know I turned into a jerk but It is still foggy." She answered.
"What happened after the bracelet and curse was removed?" She asked.
"I went back to being me but the damage was done. I'm slowly earning back people's trust in me as well as getting them to like me back. We told everyone that I had fallen and hit my head. There was a bleed that affected me but now it has healed on its own and I'm back to being me." She answered.
"I have no more questions." Miss Crawford said.
"Defense, you may question the witness." The judge said.
"Thank you, your honor." Mr Tapp said. "I have no questions for her." He said.
Bella never met his client and he felt she wouldn't help prove his client needed the hospital. Bella stepped down and went back to her family. Another witness stepped forward. Miss Crawford did her best to prove that LeStrange was sane. She wanted her in jail. Bella didn't care. She just wanted her put away. Eventually it was time for the jury to decide and they did.
They found her guilty of all charges and the judge gave her 25 years to life without the possibility of parole. An additional charge was added when she tried to kill the muggleborn guard that was trying to take her away. The next trial was for the British Auror. He too was found guilty. He was given 40 years to life without the possibility of parole.
"I can't believe that idiot." Kingsley said.
"Which one?" Harry snorted.
"Good point." He agreed.
The ex-auror took the stand and his lawyer let him. It was a shit show. After one question he went on a rant about America needing to be taken over and restructured using violence. He talked about eliminating muggleborns, squibs, and muggles. He even admitted to knowing about the bracelet and how he helped LeStrange out. Once his lawyer realized his mistake he tried to stop him but he failed.
"Lunch?" Charlie asked.
"I'm game." Harry said.
"Sure." Bella said.
"I actually have time so sure." He said and they soon went to lunch.
