Welcome back to a new chapter, I'm sorry it's taken so long and that it's quite a bit shorter then my normal length, I at first wanted this arc to be a bit longer then this, but I got stuck on it and was trying to do too much at once. So I decided to finish this little part on the elven village up, of course this won't be the last we'll see of it, but for now I need to step away from it before I do something with the story I don't really stand behind.
I hope I'll be able to get the next chapter out sooner than the time between this one and the last, but I won't make any promises.
Once more I hope you'll enjoy the story, and if there are any recommendations you have for me, let me know and I'll see what I can do. (Recommendations can be, what type of being a reincarnated friend is, who they might in terms of a canon character, etc.)
-Chapter 4-
"Draco…?" Hadrian muttered as he looked at the blonde-haired elf that was slowly coming in their direction. Maeral looked at where Hadrian was looking and smiled when he saw the three elves coming their way.
He called out to the three, "Merellien! Come meet our guests!" as the trio came over following the blonde that responded to the scout captains call Maeral pulled the now named Merellien into his side. "Hadrian, Alexandrov, allow me to introduce you to my younger brother Merellien, he's currently in training to join the scouts along with his two friends over here. Merellien, these are Hadrian Phenex and Alexandrov Vasiliev they are from the Christian Factions the Devils to be precise."
"Hello, it's a pleasure to meet all of you." The younger elf greeted them with a soft smile. "Like my older brother said I'm Merellien Carwynn one of the new recruits here." He shook both their hands however when Hadrian's and Merellien's hands touched both got a strange look on their face.
A flash of something went through both their minds before they shook it off slipping back into quiet conversation again. Both Merellien and Hadrian were thinking about what that could've been exactly, but Hadrian knew it had to do with his pull towards Merellien and why he could somehow recognize Draco in the elven boy.
Hadrian and Alexandrov found themselves both welcomed and shunned, some found them interesting and wished to learn more about everything outside of their hidden city. And others preferred not to interact with them at all during their stay.
Merellien, had escorted the two about the town and shown them to some shops from which they got a small number of souvenirs, Hadrian had gotten some wooden carvings of birds that he bought as a present for his mother.
He also spent a little time with the other scouts to train a little with the spear, it was something he had gained an interest in as a child and since some of the more 'guard-like' scouts used spears when patrolling through the town, they gave him some pointers. The reason Hadrian was interested because he didn't want to become like his Uncle Raiser who became completely reliant on the Phenex bloodline.
Hadrian had also spent some time with Merellien on his own without the blue-haired half-dragon there. It seemed like some recognition was slowly forming in the blonde's eyes when he looked at Hadrian, but confusion when he couldn't quite place where it came from.
On their last day Hadrian met up with Merellien just before they were leaving, "Merellien!" he called out as he approached the older boy.
"What is it Hadrian?" he looked the other blonde up and down, "Oh, I see you are getting ready to leave." He pointed at the bag that Hadrian had with him which held all of his souvenirs.
"We are, that's why I wanted to give you this." A piece of paper appeared in Hadrian's hand and he handed it to Merellien, "It's a Devil Contract Flyer, it's the new way devils spread the word about contracts since many humans don't seek us out on their own anymore."
Merellien nodded as he looked at it, "We'll make your wish come true?" he read from the paper, "Why are you giving me this though?" he questioned.
Hadrian smiled, "I'd like to think we've grown a little closer over these three days, and I'd like us to continue our friendship if possible, and this way you'll be able to more easily contact me when needed, or when you simply wanna talk or hang out." Hadrian hesitated before continuing, "Besides the feeling we had towards one another when we first touched, and the strange recognition between the two of us… I believe everything is going to become clearer soon and I'd like for us to meet when it does, so… please, let's stay in contact."
Merellien smiled, "Sure," he ruffled Hadrian's hair. "Of course, we'll stay in contact, and if you think everything will become clearer soon I'll believe you."
Soon enough Hadrian and Alexandrov had both said their goodbyes to the rest of the village, and used a teleportation circle to get themselves back home.
"Hadrian! Welcome back, we felt it when you arrived." His mother said as she walked over and picked Hadrian up into a hug.
"Ah, m-mom! What are you doing! I'm not a child!" Hadrian said as he tried to squeeze out of his mother's arms.
"You will always be my child! And so long as I am your mother you will not complain when I want to hug you." She pouted, "You were gone for three whole days! Don't you know how worried I was."
"Darling, calm down." Ruval said as he arrived, Emilia had rushed over as soon as she had felt her sons magic enter their home, Ruval had barely blinked and she'd been gone from where she'd been seated. "He's fine, can't you see?" he asked.
Emilia finally set Hadrian down and looked him over, "How was this elven village?" she eventually asked.
"It was amazing!" Hadrian began, he continued on explaining about the amazing feeling of magic in the air there, and how he was drawn to one of the people in the village, how they had become something like friends and that he'd given the elven boy one of his summoning flyers in order to contact him.
In the meantime, whilst Hadrian was regaling his mother with stories of Merellien and showing her all the things he'd gotten there, Ruval was talking with Alexandrov about the experience, the blue-haired half-dragon talking about the strange connection between Merellien and Hadrian, whilst Hadrian might've thought no-one noticed both Alexandrov and Maeral had sensed it happening, like something had simply clicked within the boys.
Ruval was both intrigued and a little worried about the connection, if this meant that Hadrian would soon get his first peerage member it would be quite interesting. But he wondered what this meant further, why was this connection there in the first place, but this was something for another day, for now he would just be happy his son got home in one piece, though he wasn't surprised his son had a good enough grasp on both Fire and Wind magic, and had Alexandrov there as an escort, a Half-Dragon of considerable power.
The family just sat and talked together all evening, before eating, and later before going to bed, or at least when Hadrian had to get to bed. After all, like most twelve-year-old children, he still had a bedtime his mother liked to enforce.
A number of days after Hadrian had returned home, he suddenly felt something calling out to him from out of nowhere, it felt strange, similar to a contract but still other. He knew it wasn't Merellien he would have known if it was the contract, he himself had given to the elven boy.
He alerted his mom to the energy that was calling out to him, when it intensified a little, "Mom what is this?"
His mother analysed the magic before frowning, "It seems someone is calling out to you specifically by using one of the old methods of Devil Summoning." She spoke. "One moment." She called forth her own magic to pin down the location where it was coming from, "Come here Hadrian." As Hadrian stepped close to her.
"Mother, what's happening?" the blonde boy asked.
"We're going towards your first ever summoning, I'll simply be coming along." She smiled, "since we don't know exactly where it is besides on the coast and it wasn't one of the flyers you handed out, I'll come along as some added security." The blonde boy nodded in response before they disappeared in a flash.
When they appeared you could smell the ocean and feel the wind in your hair, sitting on a large rock before them was a very familiar looking girl. "Hello Harry." She gave a wide smile as Hadrian looked on in shock.
That was the end of the chapter, for now I would like to once again apologize for the short chapter length and hope to bring it back to it's more normal levels again soon.
