Long ago the First Spinjitzu Master created Ninjago using the Golden Weapons, after facing a dark evil he used those very weapons to split Ninjago in half, sending the dark evil into a dormant state. In the years following, the First Spinjitzu Master had two sons, his oldest son Garmadon and his younger, more favored son, Wu. After his death his son Wu took over his monastery while Garmadon fell down a path of destruction and evil but not before having two sons.
Our story now takes us to a blacksmith shop in a valley. Inside is Kai an amateur blacksmith, he is hard at work, using a hammer to bend a sword to his imagined end goal and with him is his sister, Nya. She is wearing a red dress and has a bob cut while her brother is busy working and organizing the shop.
"To forge the perfect weapon, you first need the right metal and plenty of heat. Cool it off...and then..." Kai ran over to a pail of water, dipping the sword in, he waited for it to cool off.
"Presto!" Kai said, expecting his sword to come out perfect only for it to come out bent. He sighed and then tossed it away while his sister was laughing.
"You made it too quickly Kai, you need to be patient," Nya sighed. "If father was still here he'd say-" Kai cut her off by waving his hand.
"I know. No matter how much fire you have it won't do anything if you have no experience. That may work for you, Nya, but I'm going to be a better blacksmith than dad ever was." While the two were arguing a man with a white robe and long beard entered the shop, this was Sensei Wu, next to him was his nephew, Taylor Montgomery Garmadon. He wore a purple hoodie with blue jeans.
"Hm..your metal is loud and heavy. Useful to slow one down. Useless in the art of stealth. All tools for a samurai, but nothing for a ninja?" Wu questioned while Taylor looked around the shop, he picked up a kunai.
"Hm, I dunno, this looks pretty 'ninja-like' to me." Taylor said before Kai took the kunai from him.
"Ninja huh?" Kai put the kunai back in its proper place.
"You won't find any ninja around here, and by the way the shop is called 'Four Weapon's' not 'For Browsing'. Either buy something or go peddle your insults elsewhere."
"Hmph, and here I thought I'd find something special here. Come along Taylor." Wu started to leave with Taylor catching up to him.
"Adios."
Kai turned around at the mention of 'looking for something special' but they were both gone.
"When-" Kai started.
"What is it?" Nya asked.
"They were just...forget it." Kai turned around and went back to work in the shop.
Not too long later a dark cloud loomed over Ignacia, a herald of the Skulkin, a race of undead skeletons which served Lord Garmadon, aiding him in his search for the Golden Weapons. A while after multiple vehicles with skulls at the front of them appear, all of them containing Skulkin. A Skulkin with one eye, named Nuckal, was eager to get down.
"Oh, oh! Let me go first! Please, oh please! I'm dying to go down there!" Another skeleton wearing a helmet appeared on the vehicle, this was Kruncha.
"You nitwit, you're already dead! Try to control yourself in front of Master Samukai." Kruncha then turned towards Samukai, Samukai was a tall skeleton with four long boney arms. When Kruncha talked to Samukai his tone notably changed.
"But with all due respect, last time… you did say… I could go first."
"Sorry boys, this one is all mine. Remember what we're here for and find that map. Attack!" Samukai said and the Skulkin vehicles all accelerated towards Ignacia, making the people flee in terror.
Nya, who had noticed them from the shop, stood back while Kai put on armor.
"What are they?" Nya asked as the vehicles stopped not too far away from Four Weapons. Kai had come out wearing armor and holding a katana.
"I don't know, stay back." Kai rushed out of the shop and swung at a Skulkin, managing to decapitate it. This did nothing however as the decapitated head bit his foot.
"Ow! Bit this!" Kai kicked the skull away while Nya sneaked up behind two Skulkins and slammed them together, knocking the unconscious.
"I thought I told you to stay back!" Kai said as he pressed his back up against Nya's who did the same, seeing the Skulkin standing around them.
"And let you have all the fun?" The two begin to fight off the Skulkin, managing to hold their own while Kruncha and Nuckal sneak inside the shop looking for the map.
After Kai finishes off the remaining Skulkin, Samukai approaches him. Kai raises his katana only for Samukai to reveal he has four arms each brandishing a weapon. Realizing he was outmatched Kai let out a weak chuckle.
"Oops..." They begin fighting only for Samukai to easily disarm Kai, knocking him down. While Samukai goes for the finishing blow a golden tornado attacks him while a purple tornado picks up Kai.
"Ninja, go!" Sensei Wu's voice comes from inside the tornado while the purple tornado stops revealing Taylor to be inside it after it stops he is holding Kai, bridal style.
"You alright lady?" Taylor asked Kai.
"Who are you calling lady?" Kai asks only to be dropped on the ground while Taylor walks in front of him.
"Zero respect, ugly hairstyle, Uncle I don't like this guy." Taylor said while the golden tornado stops spinning, making Wu come to a halt.
"Sensei Wu! Your Spinjitzu looks rusty." Samukai states.
"Nothing like bone to sharpen its edge, Samukai." Wu shot back while Samukai took note of the water tank behind Taylor and Kai. Throwing a dagger at the foot of it, making it fall down too quick for Taylor to react.
"Ninja, go!" Wu shouted as he used Spinjitzu to save Kai and Taylor. While Wu was busy Samukai retreated to his Skull truck, holding the map Kruncha and Nuckal had managed to find.
"Lord Garmadon says take the girl!" Samukai shouted, shocking both Wu and Taylor.
"Lord Garmadon? Father?" They said at the same time while Kruncha shot the skull truck's bone hand to grab Nya.
"Nya!" Kai shouted as the Skeletons drove off with Nya.
"They took Nya..." Kai said he then kicked a nearby bucket and rushed over towards Taylor, pointing a finger at him, accusingly.
"Arrgh! You could've done something! You could've used your…Twistitzu or your-"
"Spinjitzu." Wu answered for Taylor as he stepped forward.
"Yeah whatever! Still, you two just stood there and did nothing!" Kai walked over and picked up his katana from the ground.
"I'm going to get my sister back." Kai said determinedly while Taylor simply rolled his eyes.
"First off, you can't follow them and second of all what do you," Taylor looked at Kai, giving him a once over. "Possibly hope to do against an army that big, all by yourself?"
"I..." Kai opened his mouth to respond, realizing the boy had a point.
"Well why would they come after us? What do we have that's so important to them!?" Kai questioned.
"What's so important?" Wu asked Kai.
"How about everything in Ninjago itself? You see, long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the First Spinjitzu Master, by using the Four Weapons of Spinjitzu: The Scythe of Quakes, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Shurikens of Ice, and the Sword of Fire. Weapons so powerful, no one can handle all of their power at once. When he passed away, his two sons swore to protect them, but the oldest was consumed by darkness and wanted to possess them. A Battle Between Brothers broke out, and the oldest was struck down and banished to the Underworld. Peace returned, and the younger brother hid the weapons, but knowing his older brother's relentless ambition for power, he placed a guardian to protect them. And for fear of his own demise, a map for an honest man to hide. That honest man was your father, the older brother is Lord Garmadon. And we need to find those weapons before he does." Wu explained while Kai looked taken back by all the information.
"So let me get this straight. You're the younger brother which means you came here looking for the map?" Kai questioned while Wu shook his head.
"No. I came for something greater: you. Since my brother cannot enter this realm, it's obvious he has struck a deal with Samukai. If he were to collect all four weapons, I would not be able to stop him again. But you, you have the fire inside. I will train you to harness it. Use it. Become a Spinjitzu Master."
"And then you can do Spinjitzu, like a pro." Taylor added on.
"Look, I'm honored and all but I'm only interested in getting back my sister. I want nothing to do with your family drama or whatever." Kai started to walk away while Taylor gave a tired look to Wu who only nodded his head, after a sigh Taylor disappeared, reappearing in front of Kai, knocking him down in one swift movement.
"Hey! What was that for?" Kai asked as he tried to get up but to no avail as Taylor had a strong grip on him.
"Clunky mule, if you cannot stand equally with Taylor then there is no hope of saving your sister. It is only when you master the fire within you and become a Spinjitzu Master that you will be able to face Lord Garmadon."
"Alright, when do we start?"
The next day Wu, Kai and Taylor are climbing the Mountain of Impossible height, Kai looks exhausted while Taylor and Wu look completely fine. They eventually reach the peak which is when Kai takes note of the building.
"A monastery? You expect me to fight in a place of peace?" Kai asked.
"Not fight. Train. In order to become a true ninja, first you must be able to see what others do not." Wu said while Kai looked around, confused.
"But... there's nothing here." Taylor pushed a statue, making a hidden training course come out of the ground, amazing Kai and he then starts to admire the training equipment.
"Is this gonna teach me how to do that cool move?" Kai asks as he jumps on to a pole only to be knocked off not too long later, making Taylor sigh in disappointment.
"Complete the training course before I finish my tea. Then we will see if you are ready." Wu responds as he takes a cup of tea and drinks it.
"Today you have failed, tomorrow we will try again." Wu said as he entered the monastery.
"Failed?! But I didn't even-" Wu shuts the doors of the monastery leaving Taylor and Kai alone.
"Come on." Taylor motioned for Kai to follow him.
"I'll show you how it's done." With a groan Kai followed him.
Over the next few days would try the course over and over again, only to fail as Wu would always drink his tea before he managed to finish.
Until one specific day where Kai manages to knock Wu's tea out of his hand while going the course, forcing him to pour another cup and after doing so he looks up to see no trace of Kai, only to look to his left and see him holding sugar cubes.
"Was that one sugar? Or two?"
"Well done, your final test is tomorrow. My advice...get some sleep." Wu says as he closes the door to the monastery.
"But..." Kai turns towards Taylor. "When am I gonna learn Spinjitzu?"
Taylor only enters the monastery before pausing to answer Kai's question.
"You already have."
Later in the night Kai is seen posing in the mirror while three ninjas dressed in black infiltrate the monastery. One holding nunchucks, another shuriken, and the last one holding a scythe. They all corner Kai with him not noticing until the one with the scythe lands directly in front of him.
"Hehe. Oops..."
