F/N: What an inaccurate title! Ella's not a teen here. :P
"Oh, Mittens!" Ella called in a sing-song voice, awakening her cat, who was sleeping on Ella's bed instead of his own or the cat tree. "It's time to play! Get the mousey, little boy!"
She dangled a white mouse on a string in front of Mittens, who had his cat-like instincts kick in as he started batting it back and forth. After a few seconds, he outright stole it from the princess and held it between his four paws on the floor, laying on his back. He gnawed on the mouse, kicked it free, and then lunged for it again.
The singer giggled at this. "Oh, I love it when he does that!"
Suddenly, as she gushed over her kitty, she felt some buzzing in her skirt pocket. Curiously, she checked it to see a reminder. "Dance competition: good luck! :)"
"Oh, yes, I completely forgot that that was this weekend! Goodness, I'd better get ready!" She ran towards her room, but she suddenly stopped. "Oh, but I don't have anyone to watch my little boy…" She looked down to her beloved Mittens. "I'm sure Owen would want to help, but he did eat the cat food last time, and that was only for about ten hours as opposed to a few days…"
She walked out and knocked on Noah's door. "My apologies for asking on such short notice, but may you watch Mittens for a couple of days? I'll be gone for three days, and I wouldn't want him to get hurt."
"You want me to watch a pair of mittens for three days?" Noah flatly asked.
The singer giggled into her hands. "Not that kind of mittens, silly! This kind of Mittens!" She showed the know-it-all her cat. "He's the thing I love the- well, I shouldn't play favorites. Between her- ah, him, and one other person."
"Real mystery who the other one is. But sure, if it'll get you to leave me alone."
"Oh, thank you, Noah! Goodness, that's quite a relief! I would ask Samantha to do it, but she likely wants to cheer me on during the competition! And Sky, well… She's always pract-"
Noticing how bored Noah looked, Ella stopped herself. "Well, allow me to show you how I take care of the kitty!" She led him into her apartment.
"He likes to have his food right when I get up, at 6 AM at the earliest, but no later than 7! Then another right before I have dinner at 5! He doesn't need to be played with all the time, but he's always up for it, no matter what time of day it is! He also usually sleeps on my bed, so no worries about that. It's normally on top of me when I'm there, but he's been known to sleep there instead of his own, but oh, I just can't tell him no!"
After a few more minutes explaining the rest of the princess's routine, she bid Noah goodbye with a wave and went off to show her dancing skills to the world.
The bookworm took one look at Mittens. "He's fine." He dismissed, planning to get back to it later, went outside, planted a chair and table underneath a tree, and pulled out a book. The table had a stack of four more books on it as well.
Day turned to night, and the cat had still not been fed. Noah had fallen asleep in the chair with the book closed on his lap. The cycle continued for the next two days, and he had been sunburnt somewhat badly. Some weak but loud meowing could be heard from inside the apartment as Mittens pawed at the window. As a bus arrived, presumably carrying Ella, Noah instantly realized his mistake.
"Okay there has to be something here for things like this." Noah thought aloud, as he swept through cabinets.
"Thank you, Mr. Bus driver!" Ella chirped, as she had arrived.
"Oh Figs under Captain Kaine." Noah dumped a can of food in Mittens' bowl, which had developed a cobweb in it from being left unattended for so long. "Come on, eat!"
He tried to throw some food in the cat's mouth, but he just meowed in complaint and refused to do so.
"Mittens, I'm home! Home from a dancing journey, having a lot of fun in that tourney!" Ella called out from the apartment's hallway as the key turned. Noah shoved the food bowl underneath the counter and went to greet her. "Oh, Noah! What brings you here?
"Just, uh, checking on the cat!"
"Oh, thank you! What a good friend you a-" Mittens, looking old and weary, crawled into the living room, causing the princess to cut herself off with a scream. She ran over to her pet and leaned down near him. "Mittens! Oh, what happened to you?! You poor little thing! Noah, call a vet, please! Noah!"
The bookworm, on his way out, paused and groaned since he couldn't leave just yet. He dialed the vet's number to have them come here.
The scene then cut to a car with an animal hospital number on the outside parked outside of the apartment, which then had the camera pan into Ella's living room once more.
"Yep, it's just like I thought." The vet claimed as she examined Mittens. Ella just looked on in fear, silently begging for a response. "This is definitely a cat."
"So nothing's wrong?!" The princess hopefully asked.
"No, that's far from correct. He needs to take some plasma to get the rest of his nutrients back in." The vet handed the singer the syringe.
"Aren't you going to do it?"
"Oh, no, no, I'm far too squeamish! Don't hesitate to call back if something's still wrong!"
She and Noah turned to leave, but Ella stopped the latter. "Noah, wait, I'm… I'm squeamish too! Please, can you put it in him?"
Mittens coughed and groaned, triggering even more guilt in the know-it-all. "Fine, give me the syringe. Hold him still."
Noah tried to insert the medicine, but Ella suddenly swung Mittens away from it. "Wait, don't hit him that hard, please!" He tried again, only to get the same results. "Wait! No, wait, not yet! No!"
The princess protested with each swing, and eventually, Ella herself was hit with the plasma. "Ow! Um, Noah, I think you hit me with the plasma."
"Well, you made me do it!" Noah took it out of the songbird's arm, and the swing itself made her drop Mittens. Being a cat, he was completely fine, though, and after he landed, he crawled towards his water dish.
"What's gonna happen to me?" The princess asked from the other room.
"Nothing. You'll be fine." Noah blankly replied, going to leave.
"Goodness, I'm not sure… I do feel a tad lightheaded…"
"You're fine." Noah insisted. "It's all in your head."
The cat drank some water, and soon after, it seemed as if he was all better. He walked back out into the living room and meowed contently.
"He just needed water?" The know-it-all questioned, annoyed.
"Mittens, you're better!" The princess clapped close to her chest and jumped up and down a couple times, relieved.
"How adorable." Noah quipped before leaving for real this time.
"Oh, I'm so glad you're safe, Mittens!" Ella scooped her little boy up once Noah had left, giving him a light hug so she didn't hurt him. "Would you like something to eat now?" Mittens gave her several licks on the arm as a reply, making her giggle. "I suppose that's a yes!"
She set the cat down and filled his bowl with a can of salmon-flavored wet food. She got a curious look on her face and tasted the wet food. "My, I can see why he likes this so much!" She nearly took another bite before shaking her head. "Why am I eating pet food? Silly Ella! This is for Mittens, not me… ow!" She put it next to her pet so he could eat it all up. "Why am I saying things like this?"
"Noah told me I was fine, right? But I truly don't feel like I am…" She started making her way to the bathroom to check up on herself and wiped her forehead. Her pet followed her, clearly worried. "Goodness, it's getting quite warm…" As she made her way to the bathroom, she went slower and slower, so her cat slowed down too to not leave her behind.
Mittens meowed with concern as the singer leaned on the sink. She bumped one of the valves, causing it to drip. Ella reached her tongue out to catch the droplet. Soon, she turned her head back to her pet.
"I-I'll be alright, kitty! It might just take a while!" Ella may have claimed this, but the exposed skin from her outfit slowly started to get covered in fur. Her nose retracted into her face, causing one similar to a cat's to take its place. This made her start to have trouble breathing.
The songbird fell onto her hands and knees as she continued to transform. Her left glove wriggled off of her, revealing a paw in the place of her hand. "Th-that's alright; I'm ambidextrous anyway!" She wiped her hair with the paw, as if she was trying to wash it.
The rest of her clothes became too big for her as Ella shrunk down to Mittens' size. She was eventually buried, no longer visible to the viewers.
Now completely a black-furred cat, her head popped out of the pile of clothes, the only trace of her left being the pink bow on her head. The rest of her outfit showered down around her after she flung them all upwards.
"Meow."
The scene cut over to Noah in his bed. "I never wanna see another cat again." As he slumped over in his bed, he heard some knocking on his door. "Gee, I sure wonder who that is."
He got up, threw the door open, and started speaking. "Ella, I told you, you're gonna be-" He looked down and saw Ella in cat form, assuming she was Mittens. "Oh, haha, very funny."
He almost closed the door, but then… "Wait, her cat's gray!" He screamed as Ella meowed three times. He ran into his closet and slammed the door behind him.
The meowing continued as the plasma syringe from before was kicked under the closet door. "None of this would've ever happened if I just fed the cat!"
The singer tried to force herself underneath the door, causing the bookworm to scream again. He slipped on the plasma, fell on his face, and when he got up, he saw it stuck to his arm once more. "Great…"
The scene cut to Mittens, Ella, and Noah, all in their cat forms, on top of the apartment's roof. The three of them were meowing in a rhythm, taking turns in order to the rhythm of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
In the middle of one of Noah's lines, a "shut up" could be heard in the distance. A boot flew at him and knocked him over, causing the other cats to look at him with concern.
A/N: This was mostly finished by the time Scaredy Pants was written, so it was no problem at all releasing this one faster. The fact that it's closer to canon also helped a bit.
