Ella was walking home from work, twirling her key in her hand and admiring her newest keychain, which was a sheep. She got up to her apartment door and turned the key, but she heard something get knocked over inside.
"Goodness, Mittens must be roughhousing in there again! I'll have to pick up after him as always." As she walked, she realized she was walking on rubber ducks, and there was no way that her cat could've gotten the three of them there, right? "Oh, I see! Show yourself if you truly want to dance, princess!"
But nobody came… The silence was suspicious. She tilted her head like a cat and decided to do some detective work.
"You know, in fairy tales, the princess always finds her true…" She leapt behind the couch with a ballerina's grace. "Love!" There was no one behind it, making her simply let out an "oh."
"I suppose Princess Samantha truly isn't here! Oh well. I thought she used her key to sneak up on me again, aha!" She flopped down on the couch and turned the TV on, which happened to be on a comedy commercial.
"Have you ever been in a clothing store and seen all those princess dresses?" A girl in a really exaggerated dress questioned. "Like, who wears that stuff?"
Ella just giggled. "My, that's one of my favorite commercials!"
"Yeah, you laugh at it every time." Sammy replied, suddenly sitting next to her.
The singer jumped up to her feet. "Sammy! You made me work to dance tonight!
The cheerleader giggled. "Yeah, I wanted to sneak up on you, but you got home right after I got here."
"Well, off we go! Let's start with a spin technique!" Ella got Sammy off of the couch, propped one of each of their legs up, and spun them both! Unfortunately for Sammy, she started spinning right out the door, so the singer stopped herself, jumped towards her, and stopped her from hurting herself.
Sammy was blushing deep red, not only from the failure, but also from the way Ella held her. It felt very… romantic. The singer must have felt that way too, as she kissed her girlfriend on the forehead. "I'll get you tomorrow too, Sammy!" She assured with a grin.
"I'm, uh, I'm looking forward to it!" The cheerleader answered.
The scene cut to Sammy in her own house, scrolling through something on her phone, just before it rang. The contact name that flashed on screen was "cutesyrella-3," so she wasted no time in answering.
Somehow, Ella's arms had gotten through the phone, and she was trying to make Sammy start dancing again. "H-hey, wait!" The twin slapped her girlfriend's arms away, and she had somehow managed to get the singer's arms through the phone without harming her. "You're good at trying to sneak up on me…"
"Not good enough, I suppose!" Ella giggled, got her arms free, and hung up.
The cheerleader was then seen in the grocery store, browsing through some cereals. One of them fell behind her, making her do an instant 180 degree turn. "Whoa! I-I know you're there, Ellie- um, cereal?" She blushed in embarrassment. "Oh…" She gasped in excitement because when she took a few more steps, she saw Ella standing across the aisle herself.
"Oh, Sammy! Have you ever heard that silly joke about the cheerleader and the tin cans?" The songbird questioned, fittingly standing right next to a stack of them.
"No, how does it go?"
"Well, I've heard that she took a waltz right into them!" The twin felt the princess's hand grab her own, a feeling she always adored.
They each stepped forward with their left foot, followed by the right, and closed their feet together. Repeating the process except in a backwards manner, Sammy's foot slipped and caused the tin cans to all come crashing down.
She was never the best dancer, and Ella knew that, but whenever she slipped up like this, the singer would always rush to make sure her lover was okay. "It's usually a much better dance than this!" The princess insisted.
The scene then transitioned to the next day, with the songbird at work as per usual. Just outside of the kitchen, the line could be seen quite literally going out the door.
"With extra whipped cream. To go!" The first customer in line ordered.
Ella was spinning on one foot at the time, so she didn't hear Noah announce the order. As he poked his head in, the princess slapped him upside the face by accident. "Oh, goodness! My apologies!"
"...I'm gonna pretend that didn't happen." The bookworm deadpanned, handing Ella the note. "Just take these orders! We're very busy today."
"Oh, okay then, Noah!" The princess quickly took the orders and walked out with a tray with several drinks on it, and she quickly passed them out. "Order up!"
As she planned to go back into the kitchen, she saw a customer angrily looking at a fly with her head tilted. That customer turned into Sammy in Ella's brain, and she was instead blushing and tilting her head while looking at the singer.
"Alright, Ella, you sent the orders out! Now are you gonna-" Noah was cut off by Ella dropping the tray on the floor and grabbing who she thought was her girlfriend's hands.
"Thought you could sneak up on me, hmm?" She giggled. "Well, you can't, and that is just fine, princess! I'm quite perceptive when it comes to your tricks!"
"What are you talking about?" The patron questioned, seeming offended. Ella's blush was now because of embarrassment rather than flusterment.
Unfortunately for her, Chris walked in, hearing all the commotion, and saw her accidentally flirting with a customer. "What's going on here?"
"I-I thought I saw Sammy blushing at me, so I thought she was visiting-" The princess hastily tried to explain.
Her boss interrupted her. "Are you taking some kinda allergy medicine?" He looked at the customer, and nothing about her looked like Sammy - she wasn't wearing her clothes, had brown hair, and wasn't all that thin.
"Oh, goodness, no! I was only trying to dance with who I thought was my girlfriend!"
"Dancing? The only dancing you should be doing is in the kitchen, increasing those Yelp ra- I mean, making those customers happy! I don't care what happens in there as long as you get those orders out, dude."
"Um, yes, sir! My… my apologies!" As she walked back to the kitchen, she muttered to herself. "My, why am I so distracted today?"
Later that night, at closing time, Noah was lazily mopping the same spot back and forth to look like he was busy. "Ella, have you mopped the bathroom yet? I'd like to go home sometime tonight."
"Yes, ma'am!" The know-it-all shot the princess a weird look. "I-I mean, sir! I mean, boss! I-I mean, your highness! I mean, king!"
The bookworm sighed in annoyance. "Just do it."
The singer rapidly nodded her head, got a mop and bucket, and went into the sole bathroom Smoothie Clean had, which was unisex. "I know! A song should take my mind off of all this! Cleaning up the restroom to make it all gleam! Oh, it will look just like a dream!"
She giggled. "Oh, dreams… A lot of them involve the things I love." She knocked on the first stall door to make sure no one was in it, and there was not, so she entered and mopped the floor in there. "A lot of them are about my little boy Mittens, or singing, or…"
The princess looked underneath the second stall door, which looked white and like Sammy's heels. "Sammy?!" She tried to open the door, but whoever was inside did it before she could.
It was the last person she wanted to mistake for her girlfriend. This was Chris, and the white she saw was simply some toilet paper that fell on the floor. "I normally don't care about what you do outside of work, but you've gotta stop doing this stuff to get your mind off of it!"
"O-okay, but Christopher-"
Chris shushed Ella. "If you don't, you're fired."
The singer gasped sharply as her hands darted to cover her mouth. "Fired?" Her voice squeaked. "Goodness, that will be difficult, but… alright, to save my job." She walked out of the restaurant entirely. "How will I tell Sammy?"
When she walked out, she saw Sammy there waiting for her. "Tell me what?" She questioned teasingly, grabbing onto Ella's hands.
"N-no, wait, Sammy, I can't! Christopher told me I couldn't dance anymore!" Ella warned as she felt her partner control her body.
"Right, sure."
"I-I'm serious, Samantha! Please!"
"Ellie, you've had a lot of tricks with this before, but it's not gonna work this ti-" As Sammy continued her one-sided dance, Chris looked through the window and saw what was going on. He walked outside and immediately called out the singer's name.
"What did I just tell you?" Her boss angrily questioned.
"But I-I wasn't- She was just- I-" The princess stammered.
"Ella, you're fired!" Chris pointed a dramatic finger at her and poked her chest.
"What?" The cheerleader asked in a tiny voice.
Ella's legs wobbled as her eyes welled up with tears. "F-fired?" She repeated in the same tone as earlier. Her legs gave out on her as she fell onto the ground, sobbing into her hands.
"E-Ella, no! I-I'm so sorry; I should've believed you! Chris, it wasn't her fault! She wasn't- I was just- It's my fault! I was the one who danced with her, and I wouldn't believe her when she told me that she couldn't do it anymore!"
In the background, Ella was lying in a metaphorical puddle of her own tears, which was still continuing to grow. She was clearly having trouble breathing like that, so Sammy rolled her over onto her back. Her heart split in two when she saw the princess's face, so she ran back over to Smoothie Clean's boss.
"J-just… please, give her another chance? It wasn't her fault!" Sammy insisted, making Chris sigh and walk over to the girl drowning in her own tears.
"Alright, fine. You're getting a second chance." He told Ella, making her sobs suddenly stop. "But no more dancing, and I mean it this time."
After sniffling, the princess nodded. "I-I won't let you down, Christopher, promise! Not again!"
"Good." Chris slinked back to his office.
Sammy walked over and gave her lover a comforting hug. "Sorry for not believing you. We'll, um, have to come up with something that isn't dancing then. I-it was cute to see you randomly come up and dance like that, but… uh…"
"Well, no worries! We'll simply have to come up with something else fun." The princess thought for a moment. "For example… hmm… We could squeeze things, like each other, for example, since we're still hugging!"
She did so, making the cheerleader giggle. "H-hey! I mean, that's fine too, but it's not really a fun thing for us to do, y'know?"
The singer got out of the embrace. "Well, perhaps we can act like cute little animals! Oh, I could be a little cat!" She got down on all fours and meowed twice.
Sammy seemed weirded out. "Uh… Wanna just go to the park for now?"
The couple was then seen at the park in the next shot, which was rather peaceful. There was a circular path, a few trees, and a couple picnic tables, which they took a seat at. Ella had a picnic basket in her hand, which was filled with sandwich supplies. She set it down on the table.
"Goodness, I feel silly for some expressions I've used!" The songbird expressed. "Like how I sometimes say I'm so happy that I could dance!"
"Heh, yeah, I guess so! I… I haven't even been thinking about it!" Sammy tried to convince herself.
"Oh, yes, me neither! I'm… to be honest, not quite sure what you mean!"
The girls nervously laughed, so Ella opened the picnic basket. "What would you like on your sandwich, princess?"
"Tango."
"Hmm?" The singer looked up as she placed a loaf of white bread down.
"I-I mean, something tangy! Like, tangy mustard!" The cheerleader hurriedly corrected herself.
"Ooh, trying something new? You're normally not a fan of mustard!" The princess brought out a bottle of the condiment. "Here we are! How many sandwiches would you like?"
"Uh, just one, I think."
"Okay! And one for me then!" Ella pulled out the lunch meat and lettuce, stood up, and made the two sandwiches, adding the mustard to both of them as she swiftly twirled around the table to make their food. It was clear that she didn't quite notice exactly what she was doing - in all honesty, this was likely considered a forbidden action.
Seeing Ella twirl around like that was such a pure, innocent, and charming part of her for Sammy. She couldn't help but want to see it again. "Um, w-wait!"
"Yes?" The princess paused just before she took a seat once more.
"I'm, uh, a bit hungrier than I thought. Could you make a second one for me?"
"Oh, of course! No need to be nervous about asking!" Ella repeated her routine, and as she walked behind the twin, she kissed her on the cheek before getting back to her side. "Making sandwiches is quite fun! Perhaps you can match what I'm doing here!"
"O-oh, um, alright!" The cheerleader also did a bit of spinning as she made another sandwich, though she wasn't quite as effective as her girlfriend. "Is that enough?"
"Well, we can always save them for later, so there's nothing wrong with making just a few more!"
Before they knew it, time slipped away from them as the sandwich ingredients dwindled, with the girls dancing around while creating them and even with each other. Now, they were both relaxing against a tree and holding hands.
"I wonder if Christopher ever danced with anyone when he was younger… Oh, or even right now!" Ella wondered aloud.
Right then, Chris was walking through the park, and he saw the girls laying against the tree. He cleared his throat to get their attention, making Ella scream and jump to her feet.
"So, ah, you're… most likely looking for an explanation." She sighed. "W-well, Samantha and I… we couldn't help ourselves, so we just kept dancing, even after you told us- well, me, not to. So… i-if you're going to fire me… I completely understand."
"I think I've got a better idea right now!" Chris declared, making his employee look at him curiously.
Back at Smoothie Clean, Ella was working in the middle of the lobby with ingredients surrounding her in a circle. With increased morale from the dancing ban, her girlfriend watching her, and her improved speed from the dancing, things seemed a lot better than they were before!
"I love doing all this dancing!" The princess declared.
"I love all these ratings!" Chris exclaimed, looking at his phone.
"I don't care about any of you." Noah concluded the sequence.
