After supper Alex and Cordelia headed to the Bronze to try to combine a date night with surveillance.
"We've had to dealt with weird shit before but dead leftovers in the cafeteria refrigerator? That's definitely a new one." Cordelia complained. "The last three weeks have been crazy, a dead body in Aura's locker, an attack on the Bronze, cheerleaders being attacked by an insane witch and now Dr. Gregory being murdered by something biting his head off. Why? What purpose could there possibly be to bite a human's head off? I don't know of any animal that kills that way. We go for the throat and so do a lot of animals, that or the stomach, both are much easier ways to kill than biting a head clean off!"
"If anyone heard us talking they would think we were serial killers." Alex commented, as he pulled into the parking lot. "And if the Slayer's group is here we'll have to give them a heads up too, so they can keep an eye out too. I wonder if this fake Natalie French will show up on Buffy's senses? She said she can sense demons and vampires, it's another way around a potential glamour."
"And if it's a shape shifter, like us, it won't because shape shifters, unless they use Magic, are natural."
"And thanks to Catherine Madison we now know if the power level is high enough we can sense it." Alex held Cordelia's car door open and helped her out before the two headed inside where they did find the Slayer's group and filled them in and then moved over to their usual table. A girl about Alex and Cordelia's age bumped into them as they moved through the throng of people.
"Sorry," she apologized. "Too many people in here, it's hard to avoid everyone. I'm Kami, I go to Kent Prep."
"Alex Harris, my girlfriend, Cordelia, it's a good band tonight, that's always going to bring out a lot of people. It's not a problem."
"It's nice to meet you, excuse me, I have to try to find my date." She smiled and continued on, weaving through the crowd and the two continued on to their table where Jesse and Aura were already waiting for them and filled them in.
"I have no idea what we're looking for." Alex confessed. "If an adult shows up, she's an automatic suspect since it's usually only parents that come here looking for their kid, but if she can glamour herself, than it follows that she may be able to look like a teenager or even a man. Unless, we smell or hear something unusual or we sense Magic or Buffy sense's something demonic, we're kinda stuck."
"Well, let's try to think logically." Jesse suggested. "Is there anyone in here we don't recognize?"
"A couple dozen people at least." Aura replied. "Mostly from the Fondren High School in Oxnard because it's dead as far as teen hangout places in Oxnard and some people from the private school on the other side of Sunnydale, Kent Preparatory."
"Alex and I ran, literally, into a girl from Kent after we filled Buffy and them in." Cordelia told them. "Or rather, she ran into Alex, named Kami. She was looking for her date. And of course, we may run into a vamp or two, those are easy for us to identify. And there's always the possibility that she cut her losses and moved on. All we can do is keep an eye out."
"We should take turns dancing." Alex suggested. "We can't see the whole club from here, out on the dance floor we might spot something we would otherwise miss. One couple stays at the table and the other dancing gives us a better chance of seeing something."
"Us first." Cordelia decided. "It's a slow dance and the last few times we tried a date night I was promised a slow dance by you, Alex and both times vamps interrupted before I could collect."
"Happy to oblige you, my Queen." Alex stood up and clasping her hand in his, helped her up from the table and the two moved into the dance floor and into each others arms. They spotted Kami, the girl they'd bumped into earlier trying to drag Blaine Moll onto the dance floor as well.
"Good luck with that." Alex laughed at the sight. "Blaine refuses to slow dance, he insists the only way he's going to hold a girl is in bed."
"He's a moron, he actually thinks bragging about how many girls he's had sex with impresses girls. He has no clue it's not a topic of conversation any girl wants to hear bring bragged about. We know any guy who talks like that has no respect and will talk about us that way too. Hope that Kami girl gets a clue and heads for the hills."
"Looks like she's decided on something else." Alex commented as Kami and Blaine decide to leave the Bronze instead. "Oh well, her choice, nothing we can do about it." The couple continued dancing while keeping an eye out for anything unusual that might lead them to Dr. Gregory's killer, unfortunately they didn't see anything.
