Usually during movie nights, Ellie and Patrick would end up cuddling in some way by the end of the night. Either with them sitting on opposite sides of the couch and her legs over his, or him laying down with his head in her lap while she absent mindedly played with his hair while staring at the screen. Late night movies with one of them falling asleep on the other's couch is how their sleep overs started. But tonight was the opposite. Patrick was on one side of the sofa with his arms outstretched along the back of it while Ellie sat on one side with her feet pulled up next to her, elbow resting on the arm of the couch, and her chin in her hand. They had barely said a word to each other since they finished eating. Patrick would glance over at her every once in a while.
"You know, for someone who was so insistent on picking the movie, you don't seem to be enjoying it very much," He eventually stated breaking the silence between them.
"Huh?" Ellie perked up and looked over at him.
"It's a comedy and you haven't even cracked a smile."
"Oh. I've already seen it a ton of times," She replied as she relaxed her body again.
"Then why did you pick it?"
"I like it. There's a reason I've seen it a ton of times Pat."
"Are you okay?" He finally gathered up the courage to ask her.
"Yeah."
"Are you sure? You seem different tonight."
"I'm fine," She told him, though her answer didn't convince her.
"Did I say something that upset you earlier?" He pushed as he changed position to face her.
Ellie laughed before she was able to stop herself. "I don't think that's even possible Patrick."
Though her answer was really sweet, it didn't bring him any comfort in the situation. "So you're not mad at me?"
"Of course not. I just, kind of have some stuff on my mind at the moment," She slightly admitted.
"Anything you want to talk about? You helped me out earlier. I don't mind being here and helping you now."
"No, it's fine. It's really not a big deal. Just distracted me a little. My stomach is bothering me much more than that right now."
"Are you okay?" He asked as he leaned closer to her beginning to get concerned.
"Yeah. It's what I get for not sticking to my usual order. Food was just a little too spicy for me and it isn't sitting too well. Actually, maybe I should just go home," Ellie stated as she swung her feet back on the floor and began to put her shoes on.
"You know you can just lay down here if you want," Patrick reminded her.
"I know. I just think I'd feel more comfortable at home. Besides if I end up getting sick, you only have the one bed, and I don't want you out on the couch."
Ellie got up to grab her bag and car keys. Patrick almost jumped up off of the couch to follow her.
"Do you want me to drive you?"
"No. I'll be fine. Thank you though," She answered as she opened his front door.
"Alright. Call me if you need anything."
"I will."
Ellie offered him a weak smile as she left his house and closed the door behind her, trying to get to her car before he tried to follow her outside.
