Monday Night RAW: 7/4/2014
Monday Night RAW was live at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. After RAW returned from the commercial break following the NXT Women's champion Paige defeating AJ lee to win the WWE Divas Championship, Hulk Hogan's theme played in the arena to a loud pop from the fans as the Hulkster came out with a smile on his face.
Cole hyped Hogan, The Rock, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the same ring at the same last night as Hogan posed in the ring.
In the background, Sign Guy held up a "cue card" that read: "Smoothie King Center" to help Hogan remember the building tonight. Hogan said they had the biggest, baddest WrestleMania last night … in the Superdome, which popped the crowd for Hogan getting it right tonight. Hogan said last night produced a lot of great moments, but the one that stood out to him was the Andre battle royal. Pause for a "Ryan Maverick" chant.
Hogan said when he was watching the battle royal and saw Big Show get bodyslammed over the top rope, he felt real good in his heart. Now, every single Mania going forward will feature Andre's legacy.
"So without further ado, let me introduce to you, the winner of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal... RYAN MAVERICK!" Hogan introduced to a pop from the fans.
Kick Ass by Egypt Central played, and the beat dropped as Ryan walked out with a huge smile on his face as he looks at the cheering fans and then starts to make his way towards the ring.
"What a night it was for that young man, Ryan Maverick." Cole said. "He made his WWE and WrestleMania debut in the same night, won his first WrestleMania match, and is now here on Monday Night RAW!"
"An amazing night it had to be, I can tell this young man is gonna be the future of this business." JBL said firmly. "He is the son of the Undertaker, the legacy of the Deadman, he will carry that for years to come."
"I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him." Jerry said. "I mean, already I can see him as Champion material."
"Ryan Maverick is a former world champion, a four-time world champion and multi-time Tag Team Champion." Cole listed off. "But I agree with you, King. Ryan Maverick is a future WWE World Heavyweight Champion."
"Oh, that is for sure." JBL nodded.
Ryan makes it to the ring and gets onto the apron, entering between the ropes. He raises his arms up similar to his father during the American Badass gimmick, and the crowd responds eagerly and with excitement. Ryan goes to each side of the ring, throwing his arms up with the fans following suit. He then turns and faces Hogan, taking the microphone and shaking the Hulkster's hand before turning to the crowd as his theme dies down.
Ryan goes to speak but pauses as the fans cheer loudly and start to chant his name. 'Ryan Maverick! Ryan Maverick! Ryan Maverick!'
"This crowd is on fire for him!" JBL said as Ryan chuckles waits for them to tone the cheering and chants down before bringing the microphone to his lips.
"So this is what it feels like to be on Monday Night RAW, huh?!" He exclaims, earning a loud pop from the fans as he paces around. "I gotta admit, I've been waiting such a long time to get inside this ring right here. It feels so great to be here, to be in front of all of you, to be... home."
The crowd cheers again in response, making Ryan chuckle once more.
"And I have to say, it is a great honor to be standing here as the winner of the first annual Andre the Giant memorial battle royal. I just wanna thank everyone that's helped me get this far in my career, including the one man who brought me into this business, showing me the ropes every show we went to. The Undertaker." The crowd pops at the mention of the Deadman, and a chant gets going.
'Undertaker! Undertaker! Undertaker!' They chant, making Ryan nod with a smirk.
"That's what you call him his whole career, to me, I call him dad." Ryan said, his smile falls as he got serious, turning to the trophy in the ring. "Now onto other business, being the winner of the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal is a real honor to the big man who is a true legend in this business and his legacy is proof of it. I unfortunately didn't have the pleasure of meeting him but from the stories I've heard from other legends, there's a reason he's called Andre the Giant. And finally, I just wanna say-"
We The People plays to boos as Cesaro comes out with Zeb Colter.
"Oh come on." Cole threw a hand up.
"This is just disrespectful." Jerry shakes his head.
JBL shot them looks. "You don't know what they're out here for. They could be out here to congratulate Ryan."
Jerry snorts. "I strongly doubt that."
ryan lowers his microphone to his side, watching Colter and Cesaro make their way to the ring and step inside. Cesaro grabs a microphone and stands across from ryan, about to speak when Zeb Colter takes the microphone from him.
"I'll take it from here, Cesaro." Zeb assures, but Cesaro didn't look too happy. "Let's let a real American talk here. Ryan Maverick, you made a big impact coming here last night, so unexpected, but the only reason you won the match last night is because Cesaro wasn't aware of you and you took advantage of that. It's very un-American of you."
Ryan just shrugged in response, smirking a bit.
"You find that funny, do you? Do you know what kind of guy Cesaro is?" Colter asks. "I'll tell you what kind of guy he is. He is a guy, and let's do a bit of history here, eight or nine, ten months ago, I brought him into the fold. Even though Cesaro is not from here, I brought him into the fold as a real American. And not only did I make him a real American, I made him a Zeb Colter guy." The crowd boos as Ryan crosses his arms, looking quite bored really. "And you wanna hear some more things-"
Cesaro takes the microphone from him as the crowd cheers this. "I'm sorry, Zeb. I'm not that guy. I'm not a Zeb Colter guy."
"What?" JBL blinked.
"I'm a Paul Heyman guy!" Cesaro pointed at the stage, and out comes the advocate for Brock Lesnar to a mixed reaction from the fans.
"Are you kidding me?" Jerry asks. The camera cuts to Ryan, who had a deadly look on his face. "Look at Ryan Maverick."
Heyman makes his way down towards the ring, a microphone in hand. "Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman. And not only am I the strategist behind the breaking of the Streak, I am the advocate for the King of Swing... CESARO!"
"Wait a minute!" Zeb Colter cuts in, looking at Cesaro. "You're telling me your jumping ship to Paul Heyman?! Is that what you're doing?!"
Heyman, who has now entered the ring, gets between the two. "I know this comes as a shock to you, grandpa, but this seems to be the week of shocking moments for Paul Heyman guys. So, my firs torder of business on behalf of my new client is to instruct Mr. Layfield and these two other clowns that they call announcers in exactly how I would like them to discuss the future of the King of Swing, Cesaro, so as you real Americans would say... pardon moi!" He then looks over at Ryan and grins. "Ohhohoho! I haven't forgotten about you, Mr. Ryan Maverick, the son of the Undertaker!"
The crowd cheers at the mention of his name, while Ryan is looking at Heyman with a cold glare.
"You look upset about something." Heyman ponders mockingly before smirking. "Oh, I am so sorry that my client, Brock Lesnar, broke your father's Streak last night and hurt him so bad he had to go to the hospital. I do hope he makes a quick recovery."
Ryan didn't find that funny as he storms forward, scaring Heyman when Cesaro gets between him and Ryan, the two eye to eye now. Suddenly, Jack Swagger attacks Cesaro from behind, sending him into Ryan who stumbles back into the corner.
"Hey! Wait a second!" Cole exclaims. "Jack Swagger blasting Cesaro from behind." Swagger looks at the trophy and destroys. "No! No! No! Not the trophy!"
"Oh my God! Oh my God!" Jerry couldn't believe what he just saw.
Ryan saw what happened and was not happy as he walks up behind Swagger, turns him around and unloads with a combo of quick punches.
"And Ryan Maverick's gonna make him pay for it!" Cole said. Swagger is leaned against the ropes, and Ryan clotheslines him over the top rope, sending him to the floor. "And Swagger sent outside the ring!"
Ryan picks up a microphone, flipping his hair back as he glares at Swagger. "Hey, Jackie boy! If you claim to be a real American as that fat bearded redneck claims you are, then get ready for this ass whooping, bitch!"
Ryan tosses the microphone down and takes off his biker jacket as RAW goes to a commercial break.
*After the commercial break*
RAW came back from the commercial to show the ring had been cleared, Ryan Maverick and Jack Swagger standing opposite sides, with the referee checking both men. Outside, Cesaro stood with Paul Heyman, and Zeb Colter stood in Swagger's corner.
"We're back on Monday Night RAW, and we're about to see this match get underway." Cole said as the referee finished checking Swagger for anything illegal. "Ryan Maverick in his RAW debut, is having his first RAW match against Jack Swagger."
Once the referee was done with Swagger, he checked Ryan. Once he was good to good, the referee called for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
"And here we go." JBL said.
Ryan threw his fists up in a boxer's stance as he and Swagger circled each other before they locked up. "Collar and elbow tie-up." Cole said. Ryan backs Swagger into the corner and holds him there as the referee counts, with Ryan backing off at four. "And Ryan Maverick wisely breaking and backing up."
"Very wise. He's been trained by the Undertaker, Ryan Maverick knows how to work." JBL pointed out.
Ryan then takes everyone off guard with a sudden punch to Swagger's face. "Oh!" Jerry winced at the impact of the punch. "Did you guys hear that?"
"I felt it." JBL nodded.
"Ryan Maverick with a punch to the face of Jack Swagger." Cole said.
Ryan watches Swagger rub his jaw, before the All-American rushes him but Ryan ducks and floors Swagger with a big right hand. Swagger quickly gets to his find, but finds himself in an onslaught of punches thrown at him by Ryan who backs him into the corner and unloads with a series of lefts and rights up and down the body, forcing Swagger to cover up to protect himself.
"Look at him go! Look at Ryan go!" Jerry said. Ryan stops his assault, rears back as Swagger lowers his arms, and connects with a big right uppercut. "Oh!"
"Big right uppercut by the son of the Deadman." Cole said.
Swagger stumbles away, with Ryan quick on the hunt, as he brings his forearm onto Swagger's back hard, then leans him on the ropes and pushes his neck down on the top rope, choking the man as the referee quickly warns Ryan off, beginning the five count with Ryan backing off at four. Ryan grabs Swagger then drives his knee into his ribcage.
"What a knee to the ribs." JBL complimented. "Ryan Maverick may just become the next best pure striker in WWE after his father, the one who trained him. Already we've seen the way he throws his punches. They remind me too much of his father."
"I feel sorry for Swagger then." Jerry chuckled.
Swagger holds his arms against his ribcage as he backs away from Ryan, then turns and lands a right hand, dazing Ryan momentarily. Swagger keeps up the assault before he Irish whips Ryan into the corner, but Ryan bounces off and comes back with a clothesline that floors Swagger.
"What a clothesline!" Cole commented.
Ryan flips his hair back and adjusts his right elbow pad before he grabs Swagger by the right arm, yanking him to his feet. Hen then drives his shoulder into Swagger's repeatedly, forcing the man to his knees only to be yanked up again and it's on repeat. Ryan then twists around, still holding the arm and backs towards the corner. When he starts to climb, still holding Swagger's arm, the crowd begins to cheer at the familiar sighting.
"Look at this!" Cole noticed it as well as Ryan stands on the top turnbuckles.
"Is he going to...?" Jerry trailed off as Ryan walks along the rope.
"Paying homage to his father!" JBL laughed.
Ryan leaps off... AND CONNECTS WITH OLD SCHOOL!
"Old School!" Cole exclaims.
Ryan shoves Swagger onto his back and hooks the legs.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Thr-!"
Swagger kicks out at two.
"But Swagger kicks out." Cole said.
Ryan gets to his feet and pulls the straps of his singlet top to his waist, adjusting his wrestling tights for a moment, then raises his right hand in a familiar way as he eyes Swagger with deadly intent.
"And now another homage, I think." Cole said. "We all know what the right hand raising like that means."
"Oh, Swagger you better not tyurn around, you're not gonna like it." Jerry chuckled.
Swagger stumbles to his feet, holding onto the ropes. Zeb Colter yells for him to turn around and Swagger does so... BUT GETS A GOOZLE! Ryan lifts Swagger up... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM!
"Chokeslam!" Cole exclaimed.
"Did you see the height?" JBL asked.
"But wait..." Cole said as Ryan does the familiar cutthroat sign across his neck. "There's more."
Ryan grabs Swagger and then scoops him onto his right shoulder, gets him into position in front of him and... HITS THE TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER! He crosses the arms over Swagger's chest and flips his hair back to show the glare on his face as the referee counts.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three! Ring the bell!" The referee called to the timekeeper.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Kick Ass plays as Ryan gets to his feet. "Here is your winner... RYAN MAVERICK!" Justin Roberts announced.
"What a RAW debut match for that young man, for Ryan Maverick!" JBL approved. "He just won two fot he biggest matches in his career with the span of two nights. He won at WrestleMania, he defeated a veteran in Jack Swagger tonight! I am looking forward to seeing what the WWE has to offer this young man!"
"I gotta agree with you, JBL." Jerry nodded. Ryan looks over at Cesaro and Paul Heyman with the same glare on his face, then does the throatslit gesture once again. "Oh my."
"That is a message to Cesaro and Paul Heyman, especially Heyman." Cole said. "Ryan cannot be pleased about his father's condition following the match with Brock Lesnar last night, and Heyman's bragging about it."
Ryan leaves the ring and makes his way up the ramp to the back as RAW goes to a commercial break.
And that's it for this chapter everyone. I hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to more of Ryan Calaway's story in WWE.
