Chapter Seven

Reid watched as Bonnie plopped onto his bed face first. She moved about reaching for a pillow. Once she had a hold of it she inhaled deeply and let out a frustrated scream.

"What happened?" asked the blond as he sprawled out beside her.

"Caleb,"

"Well that's definitely the story of your life but go on," he teased, resting his arm behind his head to support his neck. "Let me guess, you told him you're still crushing on him?"

"I told him I wouldn't let this magical bond between us interfere with our lives."

Blue eyes widened before the blond sat up.

"You...you know?"

"Yes," Bonnie murmured and then lifted her head. "Aunt Evelyn told me after I asked about Chase."

Reid flinched. Chase Collins was a wound that would fester. He hated how they had never seen him coming and when Caleb had, none of them believed him until people got hurt. Until Kate got hurt, and then Pogue. The third Son had vowed that if Chase ever came back, he'd hunt him down and kill him for what he did to his brothers and Kate.

She was a sister to him and Tyler just as much as Bonnie was.

"Bonnie,"

"And," she continued as if he hadn't started speaking, "apparently you all know too."

Reid flinched again, this time from the accusatory tone of her voice. It had his heart squeezing in guilt knowing he was hurting her.

"Bonnibee," Reid reached for her hand, his fingers tracing lightly at her knuckles. She had flipped over onto her back and was looking to the ceiling avoiding his gaze.

"I mean, it's not like I'm upset at that part. You boys are family. You don't keep secrets from each other so of course you'd all know. It hurts. But then again, I'm used to people keeping secrets from me," she said in and her other hand reached out to hold the side of her neck. There was a flash of something in her eyes, a memory of some sort.

And Reid, Reid saw it pass over his own eyes, like it was his memory and not hers. Everything was happening so fast. There was smoke, the smell of burnt grass and a feeling of confusion in his mind. It felt odd, like he was coming back into his body and as he looked around for something familiar, he heard a noise. It was a growl of some kind, not quite animal but not human either.

Suddenly he was grabbed by his neck, the hand wrapped around it tight and yet still gentle. Like his assailant wasn't trying to fully hurt him. Reid would have believed it if his attacker hadn't yanked his head to the side.

Pain bursted into his eyelids. It was like black stars had been born in the corners of his eyes just as a burn scorched his neck. Something dug into his skin, brutally ripping apart skin and muscle, latching to his veins.

The scream that left him wasn't his though. No, as the memory passed he could hear it.

Bonnie screaming in fear as something drank her blood and the thought of dying--of leaving her Grams and her dad, even her boys, alone filled her as her magic reacted.

Reid moved from the bed, his own power rising just under his skin.

The lights overhead flickered while the room shook.

"Holy shit," Bonnie cursed as she sat up. Her knees were tucked beneath her as she looked over at Reid. "was that you or...or me?"

Both, he guessed as he replayed the memory over and over in his head.

Burning grass, confusion, searing pain and screaming. His blue eyes towards her face, tracing every single detail, watching for every kind of reaction as he hissed: "What the fuck was that?"

She blinked, a quick flutter of her lashes as she tried to guess what he meant. She knew their magic had responded to each other. Aunt Evelyn said that sometimes, since the five of them were going to be considered family and coven mates, their powers would seek out each other.

But Reid knew that, didn't he?

"Our powers reacted," she said offhandedly.

"I know that Bonnibee," he gritted out as he waved a hand across the room. "The fucking room just shook and we had a mini light show. That's not what the fuck I'm talking about though."

Bonnie titled her head to the side, really confused now. "Is this because I'm accusing you of know I'm engaged to Caleb?"

"No,"

She laughed, trying to lighten the rising tension in the room. "Okay, so what is it then?"

"The memory," he gritted out. He could feel the power burning under his skin. He was angry as fuck at whatever had attacked his little sister but he knew that if he reacted and his power decided to lash out at her, he would he forgive himself; he'd be the first to beat himself up if anything happened to her. Tyler, Caleb and Pogue could get in line.

Bonnie frowned. "What memory?"

Reid glanced down at her neck, watch as she subconsciously reached up to try and hide something that wasn't there.

"What attacked you in those woods Bonnie?"

Bonnie blinked again, this time from shock. She opened her mouth to try and say something but then she looked at him.

Reid stood with his arms at his sides, fists clenched as he waited for her to speak. His eyes had black along the corner of his eyes, so close to overtaking the entirety of them.

Power crackled in the air and she could taste it on her tongue.

Don't lie to him, her magic whispered. It was soothing her nerves as she struggled with the words. How do you tell someone a secret you swore you'd never tell? It was to protect Elena.

Elena who hadn't contacted her once. Not since the funeral. Elena who was probably making moon eyes at Stefan while avoiding Damon's own moon eyes.

"Bonnie," Reid called again and she watched as he walked towards her and sat on the bed. It dipped at the addition to his weight and he wrapped an arm around her. "I'm only asking because I care about you. I'm not going to hurt anyone, I promise. Not unless you say so."

Bonnie whimpered, "You mean it?"

He nodded, "As your coven member and honorary brother, I promise. But I can't lie, the boys will know about this."

Bonnie sighed. Of course they would. They told each other everything that was a possible risk.

Learning about vampires might be something new.

a short chapter for a return. I'm going to try and get back into writing these stories. I just mentally haven't been motivated. All I'm asking for is patience and I hope you all enjoy it.
