The black-clad figure dragged the two unconscious heroes behind her. "Look what I found," she announced.
The person she was speaking to turned around and stared with his one good eye. "Sidekicks," he growled.
"These suits are amazing," the girl beamed, pulling off her oxygen mask to reveal white hair and an eye patch of her own. "The Martian didn't even sense me until I was within three feet of her. I wish I could keep it."
"Don't get used to it," her father growled. "Contrary to what these magician freaks are saying, it isn't smart to rely 100% on magic. It'll only make you a weak fighter."
"I agree with your father," a stunning woman with long black hair said as she appeared, wearing a long-sleeved green belly shirt and skin-tight pants with knee-high boots. "Magic isn't the answer to all problems – just to 99.9% of them." She looked down at the two green, unconscious changelings. "Great catch," she complimented. "I'll keep them close." She lifted her hand and the two heroes disappeared into a cloud of purple smoke. "No doubt they have friends nearby, and I don't need the Justice League sticking their nose in our business. We've stayed off their radar for this long; I don't need a bunch of adolescent brats screwing up my plans."
"Look out!" Raven screeched uncharacteristically. The black dome reappeared as quickly as it had left. Raven sighed in relief as bullets and projectiles rained down on them from every side. It had surprised her, and she barely got her shield up in time. That could have been disastrous.
"Whoa!" Kid Flash exclaimed. "Who is shooting at us, and where are they shooting from?" he looked around desperately.
Superboy's eyes zeroed in on the guns. "There," he pointed to the forest, "about a mile out. And there. Another one over there. Automated rotary cannons… M134 Miniguns."
"KF, can you disarm them?" Red Robin asked.
"Dude, I'm insulted," Kid Flash frowned.
"Raven, can you release Superboy and KF from your shield while simultaneously protecting me and you?" Red Robin asked.
"You want them to run out there?" Raven asked in disbelief. "Seriously?"
"Standard miniguns fire 6,000 rounds a minute. I don't know how long the ammunition belts on these babies are," Red Robin replied. "But KF can run faster than the minigun can fire."
"And I'm bulletproof," Superboy added.
"So can you do it?" Red Robin asked, annoyed at having to repeat himself.
Raven frowned. I don't think I've ever done that before.
"Raven!" Red Robin barked her name sharply.
"Give me a second!" Raven yelled back. What is the best way to do this? I could weaken my shield, but those bullets would undoubtedly pierce through, hitting Red Robin and me.
"We don't have a second!" Red Robin bit back.
"Shut up!" Raven closed her eyes in concentration. "Okay," she opened her eyes. "Red Robin, hold on to me."
"Excuse me?" Red Robin asked with a raised brow, unsure if he heard correctly.
"Come on," Raven urged. Red Robin reluctantly wrapped his arms around her waist. "I'm going to teleport Red Robin and myself out of here, releasing the force field."
"Where exactly are you going to teleport us?" Red Robin asked, his mouth by her ear.
Raven, grateful for her hood, flushed at the sound of his voice. "Just... trust me," she answered. "Okay. Three. Two. One." Raven felt Red Robin's arms tighten around her waist as she pushed them into a dark void. Less than five seconds later, she reappeared with Red Robin in a black sphere, hovering a few feet from the ground. "Whoa," she said. Making sure their surroundings were safe, she gently landed on the ground and released the sphere. Red Robin crumpled to his knees and vomited. "Uh... yeah... that happens the first few times," Raven said. She looked around. It looked like a war-zone. Charred earth, smoky brush, and burning trees covered the area. The scene shocked Raven. I disappeared for five seconds, tops. What on earth could have happened in five seconds? "What happened?" she wondered aloud as Red Robin shakily stood to his feet.
"Dudes!" Kid Flash appeared in front of her holding something in his arms. The breeze he caused blew her hood back.
"Yeah," Raven answered, pulling her hood back over her head. "What are you holding?" she asked as Superboy landed beside her.
"A souvenir," Kid Flash beamed proudly.
"That's a rotary cannon," Red Robin pointed out.
"Whatever it is, it's mine," Kid Flash stuck his tongue out.
"Whatever." Red Robin rolled his eyes as a small hologram map of the island appeared above his wrist. "Beast Boy and Miss Martian's trackers have stopped moving. KF, scout."
"Fine," Kid Flash dropped the cannon with a heavy sigh before taking off. He returned five seconds later. "Ran the entire island. No more surprises. There's a building about a mile from here. Don't worry. Superboy and I already took care of the miniguns."
"All of the miniguns?" Red Robin stressed.
"Give me a moment," Kid Flash held up his finger before disappearing. The sounds of shots being fired echoed throughout the island. Kid Flash appeared in front of them. He had multiple ammunition belts draped across his entire torso, his uniform had several holes, and cuts covered his face. "Got 'em," he smiled proudly.
"Are you hurt?" Raven asked.
"Nothing major. Can I keep these?" Kid Flash pointed to the ammunition around his neck.
"Let's go," Red Robin ignored the question.
"Buzzkill," Kid Flash muttered as he fell into step with his leader.
Anita leaned on the desk, glaring at the screen in front of her. The hero whelps disabling the miniguns was not a surprise. That they were able to get through her magic shield—that was shocking and a bit disturbing. Her spells were near impossible to break. The Zataras, for example, would not have been able to break through her shield. Constantine? Maybe. He was a wildcard. (Anita hated facing him; she never knew what he had up his sleeves. Also, nine times out of ten, he was drunk.) Anyway. "Freeze it," she commanded the guard sitting at the desk. "Zoom in on the girl's face." The guard did as he was told. Violet hair; violet eyes; very pale skin. Anita frowned. She didn't recognize the teen heroine, but there was something about her that gave Anita pause—a shiver worked its way down her spine.
"Bring me Deathstroke."
