Set up of the story : the BAU team is composed of Hotch (unit chief), Rossi, Morgan, Reid, Prentiss and JJ. The section chief is Matteo Cruz. Since the actor that played Cruz made an appearance as Director Ochoa, I'm mixing shows up and making the two teams work together because of a case Ochoa/Cruz thinks they should collaborate on. The case will take place in LA, as the BAU travels often as opposed as to the OSP team who rarely does.

So the storyline is, there is a serial killer in LA, who targets marine officers, the OSP team needs a little help after working this case for two weeks without rest and still no closer to any clue as to who the killer is. It's a little AU in the timeline because Cruz appeared in I believe season 8 of Criminal minds and season 10 of NCIS LA, but I'm making it look like he worked for NCIS before going to the FBI. Probably can't happen in reality but whatever this is fiction.

JJ and Emily were sitting in the break room of the office, talking about their first week end off in two months, Derek was grilling Spencer in the bullpen about a girl he dated for the first time on Saturday afternoon, and Hotch and Rossi were locked in their offices, probably doing paperwork or writing a new book, who knows…

Section Chief Cruz came in through the glass doors and went straight to Hotch's office. He knocked and went in without waiting for an answer. He was the chief after all. A few minutes later Cruz came out looking to be on a mission, and went to the briefing room, followed closely by Hotch, asked everybody to come to the briefing immediately, before knocking on Rossi's door to warn him.

Once everybody was assembled in the brief room, Cruz started talking.

« Hello everybody, hope you enjoyed your week end. Unfortunately, we won't have time to exchange on that, since I have a case for you. »

Everyone sat down suddenly very interested. It was rare that a case came directly from Cruz. It usually came in from one of them getting called by local authorities for a consult.

« So, we have 6 victims, all were found in Los Angeles, these last 3 weeks. All marine officers. All seemed to have been tortured, probably for information-«

« I'm sorry to interrupt but, » Morgan started talking, confused, « why are we being called in on this ? These are Marine officers, shouldn't the Naval criminal investigative services be working this case ? » Everybody looked very interested to hear the answer to the question they all were thinking of.

« Great question Agent Morgan. The NCIS office of special operations based in LA is actually the leading team on this case. They've been working these murders for two weeks straight, but they're no closer to having any clue as to who could be committing these murders. And trust me when I say, this team is one of the best in the whole world. If they're having trouble with this case, enough to have called me to see if I could send help, then it's gotta be a tough one. »

« Okay, » Hotch said, « We're leaving in an hour, go home, pack for at least a week, this looks like it's gonna be a long one. See you at the airstrip. »

They all nodded and got up. Once they were out of the room, only Cruz, Hotch and Rossi remained. Rossi started:

« Sooo… OSP in LA… Isn't that where Hetty Lang is stationed at the moment ? »

« Yes Dave, I understand you know her ? » Cruz said,

« Well, let's just say, I know when she calls you answer, and I know you don't mess with her, or her team. »

« Then you know enough. I won't be with you on three trip but don't hesitate to keep me informed. Safe flight. » And he was off.

Hotch and Rossi looked at each other before going their own way. Hotch heard Rossi say to himself,

« This is going to be interesting. »

16 hours ago in LA.

« Guys, let's regroup at OSP in 15. » Callen said over the coms.

Back at OSP, you could see Callen and Sam arriving back from interrogating a bunch of neighbors from where the last body was found, both had their shoulders down and quite a few bags under their eyes from the lack of sleep. It had been two week since they started working this case. It had been brought to their attention by LAPD after the third body was found. Since then, they'd been going non-stop. The case had been consuming every minute of every day, and the more bodys were found, the less rest they were getting. There was a lot of pressure from the higher ups, wanting to make sure no classified information had been leaked by any of the victims, since they all looked like they'd been tortured. But also, after the fourth victim, the case kind of became personal for all of them. A marine they had worked with on case a few years back was murdered.

The pair sat at their respective desks, heads down thinking, while waiting for the other half of the team, to come in.

A few minutes later, you could see Kensi and Deeks, walk in. They looked pretty much the same as Sam and Callen, black bags under their eyes, tired and defeated. Kensi went to Deeks's desk, opened a drawer and found a pack of Twinkies hidden there. He would argue the contrary, but Kensi he kept them here for her. Probably to bribe her into doing something for him. But right this second, she needed a pick me up. Deeks saw her and started protesting, but it didn't go anywhere. No one was in any mood to joke right now. Not even him. And that's saying something.

Kensi took a seat at her own desk and Deeks did the same. Sam started the conversation.

« Anything new guys ? »

« Nope, still no new information. The cameras in the all the neighborhood the bodies were found were all disconnected at the times the bodys were dropped. This guy is extremely well organized, and he's got skills… » Kensi said.

« Well, nothing either on our side, the neighbors didn't see or hear anything, no one could even tell us an approximated time the last body was dropped. The cameras there were disconnected for 24 hours straight and nobody noticed… » Callen finished.

« Guys, I think we need to call in for help. This is getting out of hands, and we're not used to working with serial killers. We deal with terrorists most the time. These guys are stupid. This one is really bad and if don't ask for help it's gonna gets so much worse. » Sam said.

« I'm with Sam on this. But who do we call ? Nate is out of the country on a classified mission, and we would really need a profiler right now. » That was Deeks.

« G, you remember Director Cruz ? I think I heard he switched boats and went to work for the FBI. And If I recall correctly, he's own charge of a unit full of profilers. »

« Oh yeah Sam, I think I remember Hetty telling us about that a while ago. How about I give him a call ? »

Everybody nodded in agreement, Callen got up and walked off to make the call, while the others started working on their computers. Filing in what they had (not) found out during their last outing.

Half an hour later, Callen came back with great news, the now section chief of BAU Cruz was going to send them his A-team from the Behavioral Analysis Unit. They were currently between case so he would talk to them in the morning.

« That's great news, what is today actually ? I've lost track of time… It feels like we've been on this case for a year.. »Said Kensi looking like she could drop from exhaustion any minute now. Callen told her today was Sunday.

« Man, I don't remember the last time I had more than 2 hours of sleep. » said Deeks, not looking much better than Kensi.

« Ok guys, let's make sure our case is in order if we want the BAU team to have all the information they need to help us. And then we can go home and have some sleep before they get here. I suspect Cruz is going to make them come in bright and early. He took my request very seriously. »

They all nodded and started working, but as time went on, no one was actually leaving. At 21:00, Sam called it quits, he got up and said:

« Okay guys, I'm sorry but I really need to spend a few hours with my family, I feel like I haven't seen them since last month and I don't when I'll have time to go home when the BAU gets here so, have a good night, get rested and see you tomorrow morning. »

And Sam was off. That left Callen, Deeks and Kensi. Callen decided to go talk to Hetty, he really needed her opinion on all of this.

Kensi and Deeks continued working, a few hours later, Deeks took his laptop and got confortable on the sofa. He was tired and his chair was starting to feel really uncomfortable. Callen hadn't commented back from Hetty office, they thought he just left without telling them, or he was in the gym or found somewhere to lie down and fell asleep.

Kensi finally looked up from her screen, and looked for Deeks, finding him on the couch looking extremely comfy, he looked like he could fall asleep any minute. And she was so jealous right now… But she knew if she went to the couch she would probably fall asleep, and who would finish report then ? But she could just continue working on a more comfortable surface… She got up then and joined Deeks on the couch.

« Hey partner, got tired of the chair ? »

« Yeah, my god I'm so tired I think I could sleep for a week straight… »

« Hey, how about you close your eyes for a while, I'll wake you up to finish your report..? »

« Or you could finish it for me ? » She said grinning sheepishly with her tired eyes.

« Stop looking at me like that, you know I can't refuse you anything when you look at me with those eyes… »

« I don't know what you're talking about » She continued looking at him dead in the eyes, trying to charm her way into making him finish her report.

« Fine, you win. Like always. » He said defeated. « Now try and sleep, I'm going to be so tired tomorrow, I'm going to need you to be week rested so you can save my very beautiful but also very sorry ass in the field »

« You like you're butt too much if you ask me »

« You like my butt more than I like my butt »

« Shut up, I don't have the energy right now. »

« That means I win, good night Fern » he said finally said, as she rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.

It was a familiar position for the two of them. They often ended up asleep on one of their couches after one of their movie nights This just never occurred in the office for obvious reasons. The first being, you just don't sleep on a couch with your partner at work. But right they were too tired to think clearly. At some point, Deeks being exhausted, just decided to stop working. He was done. This made no sense and it would not the case if he wasn't able to function correctly tomorrow. Well, today really, he looked at the time and saw it was 02:00am, Kensi was still sound asleep on hospital shoulder. He thought this wasn't a great position to sleep in so without thinking he put his laptop on the side table and managed to lie down bringing Kensi with him. Kensi ended up half on top of him and half trapped between him and the back of the couch, her head on his chest. She was dead to the world. Deeks started relaxing and not event 2 minutes later, he was asleep. His last thought was he hoped nobody caught them like this in the morning…
