Caius woke up the next morning to start breakfast. He saw that Emily's door was closed. He peaked inside and noticed that she was still sleeping. He quietly closed the door and headed to the kitchen. He started cooking for the two of them. With breakfast almost done he hears Emily sit at the table. "Morning." Emily greeted.
Caius turns and notices that she was not wearing her translator. He smiled happy to know that she was speaking in Turian more and using her own language less. "Good morning little one." He greeted the child.
He sees that breakfast is ready and pulls two plates out and starts serving breakfast. He brought a plate to Emily. "Once your done get dressed and I will give you lessons on how to act when in the presence of other turians."
Emily nods her head as her mouth was full of food but her eye's lit up with excitement. Caius chuckled as he started eating his food. After breakfast they went to get ready for the day. The two entered the bathroom and proceeded to brush their teeth. They were doing similar brushing and they both were done they spat into the sink at the same time. Emily looked up at the Turian and giggled. They looked down and smiled slightly and ruffled her hair. "Come on kiddo it's time I teach you how to interact with other turians."
She smiled brightly. "Okay Caius."
The two then went outside and Caius started the lesson. "Today I will teach you how to greet other turians."
She nodded and the lesson began. "When Turians greet each other, we use our sub-harmonics, but it's not uncommon for turians to lose our sub-harmonics."
Again she nodded and still had an eager look on her face. "So instead bob your head up." He instructed and gave a demonstration.
She copied the motion. "Good so before you introduce yourself do this motion."
She did the motion. "My name is Emily." She practiced in perfect turian.
"Good but make sure that you say a greeting before you say your name." He instructed.
"Yes Caius."
Just then Caius' omni-tool rang. Caius looked down at it and saw that it was the school he was registering Emily to. "It's your school." He told the child.
"Caius Callrix speaking." He greeted into his omni-tool.
"Yes, General Callrix, this is Acina from the school."
"Yes, I remember." He replied.
"Well, when I told the principal about the human that you wish to enrol in this school."
"Yes and…"
"We would like for you and your human to come in today."
"Alright we will come in after her check- up." He told the receptionist.
"Alright see you then."
The line went dead. He takes a deep breath. He looked down at Emily. He can tell that she been listening in on the conversation. "Well, it looks like you will be seeing the school sooner than expected, and we will be meeting with the principal as well." He told his ward.
"Okay." She responded with a hint of nervousness looking at the ground.
The turian bent down to her level and put a talon under her chin and lifted it up so that they were eye level. "Listen kiddo, you will do great I have no doubt, you learned to speak, read, and write in turian in half a year, and you made me proud through out you time here." He reassured her.
She gained more determination and a smile full of confidence due to his speech to her. "Now, let's continue the lesson shall we."
Emily excitedly nodded her head. The continued their lesson on turian etiquette. Caius had Emily practiced each form of etiquette. When it was time to head to the hospital, they headed to Caius' sky car to go to the hospital for Emily's appointment.
The two walked into the hospital and approached the receptionist's desk. Caius noticed that the same receptionist that was there yesterday is working again today. He and Emily then approached the receptionist. "Excuse me, I am here with my daughter for her check up with Dr. Al'tlera."
The receptionist looked then back to her holoscreen with a barely noticeable smile on her face seeing the general. "Alright if you could please wait in the waiting room and I will call you when the doctor is ready."
"Come on kiddo let's head to the waiting room." He guided her.
Caius found a seat in the nearly empty waiting room. He saw that Emily was play with a toy sky car making it fly with her hand. He looked around and saw two female turians and one male staring at Emily. He sighed before reading a datapad that was on a table next to him. For the next five minutes he would look over the tabloid but not really paying attention to it while keeping an eye on his chair and making sure no one was going to mess with her.
"Callrix!" A nurse called.
"Yes." He said gently tapping Emily on the shoulder.
"Will you two follow me please." The nurse instructed.
The two followed the nurse into Dr. Al'tera's office. "If the patient would take a seat on the table the doctor should be in a few moments."
Caius thanked the nurse before she left. He saw that Emily climbed up onto the table by herself. Emily looked at Caius with a pondering look on her face wanting to ask him something but before she could the door opened to reveal an Asari in a white lab coat enter. Caius stood. "Hello, Dr, Al'tlera.
The Asari bowed slightly to the Turian. "General Callrix."
They both heard a small thud. They both looked down to see that Emily had jumped off the table on to her feet. They watched as Emily stood straight bobbed her head back. "Greetings my name is Emily."
The Asari had been slightly shocked at the proficiency of the human's speech. She then knelt to Emily's level. "Hello Emily, I am Doctor Al'tlera and it's a pleasure to finally meet you."
Emily had a dark blush on her face when she noticed how close the Asari's face was from he own. "Now, can you climb back on the table, and we will begin your check up."
"Yes mam."
Emily climbed back on to the table while Caius went back to his chair. "Emily how are you today?" She asked the child.
"Excited I get to school next week." She spoke with an excited voice.
"I heard congratulations and I hear that your turian is excellent."
"Thank you."
"Now through this check-up we will be the basis of your health record."
Emily nodded. "Alright let's begin."
It was just simple check-up. After the examination the doctor turned to Caius. "Next is to set up a psychological profile and require privacy so I ask that you wait out in the waiting room please."
"Of course, I'll be in the waiting room waiting." He agreed leaving the two alone.
He headed towards the waiting room and pulls out his omni-tool. He decided to call Severus. "General Severus speaking."
"General Callrix here sorry if I woke you up."
"No I just woke up not to long ago, how's the child?"
"About to start school." He said as he entered the waiting room.
Severus woke up more at this. "Really?"
"Yes her vocal, reading , and her writing are at 5-6 year old level." He explained. "A potential problem may be the school."
"I see give me the details and I will make sure that Emily is Enrolled."
"Thank you general."
The omni- tool hung up. He sent Severus the information about the school before heading back to the waiting room. When he entered the waiting room the receptionist got his attention. "It's adorable by the way."
"What is?" He asked.
"Your bond with your daughter." She elaborated. "I only saw it for a few minutes, but I can tell how protective you are of her, and I see that she looks up to you."
He widened his eyes at the receptionist. "Very observant." He complimented.
"Two years as a scout you learn to spot anything."
He chuckled a little at that. "Good point."
"I am curious as to know how you came into adopting a human child."
"I am forbidden to divulge that information." He told her simply.
"Oh." The receptionist exclaimed sarcastically. "And her I thought it was a simple adoption."
"I never got your name." Caius stated with a look of suspicion.
"Consetia Adjuso, maybe Severus should have introduced us."
Caius brightened up at this. "I see maybe over lunch while Emily is at school."
Consetia smiled at that. "Sure, give me a day and your contact info and I will see you there."
"Sounds good." He said giving his contact and then headed to the waiting room.
Meanwhile in the doctor's office, doctor Al'tera was starting a psychological test. "Now Emily the first test we will do is a word association I say a word and you tell me the first thing that comes to mind."
Emily nods her head.
"Ship."
"Stars."
"Sleep."
"Dreams."
"Mother."
"Busy."
The doctor raised an eyebrow at that. "Father."
Emily was a bout to reply but held back and had a look in thought. After a few moments Dr. Al'tlera decided interject. "I take it you are having a hard time thinking of a word."
"It's just when we arrived and Caius was telling the lady at the desk that I was his daughter."
"Do you feel conflicted over this?" She asked the young girl.
"No, it's just do I call him dad even if he was never with my mom?"
"I would talk to him about it."
"Okay, I would like him to be my dad."
"Did you have a father before you came to live with Caius.?" She asked.
"I was just told that he was gone and would never come back."
"I see, what about your mother?"
"I see her from time to time but I am mostly seen by other people because she has to work a lot."
"I'm sorry she wasn't around more."
Emily shrugged her shoulder. "Can we talk about something else please."
"Sure, since I asked questions about you would you like to ask questions about me?"
Emily brightened up as she started asking questions. The doctor answered every question that was asked of her and was impressed with some of the details of the question.
Meanwhile on Palavin, Severus was heading towards his dinning room after sending a 'reference' to Emily's school and gave a loud sigh as he took a seat at the table. Ever since delivering Emily to Taetrus he was reassigned to the Alien relations department. He still had his rank but no more combat or espionage work. Most of his days now revolve around doing paperwork behind a desk. There was one benefit to his position and she just walked into the dinning room with two dinner plates. He looked down at her midsection. Ever since she arrived on Palavin her Belly gradually got bigger showing that their child was growing and developing.
"Bad news I take it." She stated as she put his plate at his spot.
"No, just surprising Emily's caretaker is already enrolling her in school."
"I'm not surprised she is a smart girl." Lisa stated before taking a bite of her food. "I take it she needed a reference?"
"Possibly, I have already sent it, but hopefully it wasn't needed."
"It is good to hear that she is doing well."
Back at the hospital on Taetus, Caius was waiting for Emily and reading a datapad when he sees Emily with the good doctor. He gets up and Emily ran towards him. "Caius!" She said excitedly.
She ran towards him but stopped in front of him. Caius rubbed her hair. Dr. Al'tlera approached the two. "I have now officially started a medical file for Emily to present to the school."
"Thank you doctor."
"Oh, one more thing." She said before handing him another Datapad. "This is information for a human girl going through puberty."
"I will make sure to read it tonight."
"It should help prevent you from being surprised."
"Thank you doctor."
"No problem, any issue with Emily please come to me oh before take her here for diner to help her development." She said sending coordinates to the general.
Emily and Casius nodded to her before leaving. The two entered the sky car and headed for the school and parked the car. They left and entered the school and headed towards the principals office. They entered the principals office and Casius saw the same secretary from yesterday. Casius coughed to get her attention. "Yes..oh." She greeted. "General Callrix welcome."
She looked down and saw the human child for the first time. She took in her appearance. "So you must be his Emily."
Emily then put her etiquette lessons to use. She bobs her head. "Hello, my name is Emily."
"Well, your polite I will give you that." The secretary stated simply.
"Thank you."
"And you understand turian quite well I see." She praised seeing that the human's translator was off. "I will let the principal know that the two of you are here."
She then tapped on her holo screen sending a message to the principal. A message came back almost immediately. "The principal will see you now."
Caius thanked the secretary then both Emily and Caius entered the office to find a female turian at the desk. "Ah welcome, glad you two came." She greeted them. "My name is Calvetilia Remirinus and I am the principal of the school."
"Greeting I'm Caius Callrix and this is my daughter Emily Shepard."
The principal looked at Emily in a manner that gave off the impression that she was inspecting the child. After a moment of two scrutinizing the child she laid motioned for the two to have a seat. Caius and Emily took the seats offered to them across the desk from the principal.
"Normally I would not invite a parent and 'child' for a meeting unless the child was in serious trouble."
"Am I in trouble?" Emily asked innocently.
Calvetilia chuckled at this. "No, but we have to go over somethings before we officially enroll you into this school, such as your name?"
"What's wrong with my name?"
"We have to change your last name to that of your 'parent.'"
"Oh, okay."
"So, for the rest of your life your name will be known as Emily Callrix."
"That's good to hear, now we have to talk about setting up an evaluation of her Turian to see if she needs any extra help."
"Understood, when will it take place?" Caius inquired.
"Tomorrow at 10 AM."
"Sounds good."
"Next, we have to go over paperwork to establish her needs while at the school."
For the next hour Caius and Calvetilia had gone over the paperwork for Emily's enrolment. After it was done, Emily and Caius said their goodye's and headed back to the sky car. The two entered the car and headed into town. Caius found a parking garage and parked the car. The two got out and headed towards a shop called Thesian Charms. The store catering to the asari population with clothes, make up, and other accessories. They both entered the store and were greeted by an asari clearly in her maiden stage.
Caius took the initiative. "I am hear with my daughter and she needs to be fitted for new clothes and shoes."
"What types of clothes will she need?"
"Everything."
The Asari perked up at this. She looked down at the child and finally noticed that she wasn't an Asari. "Oh, she must be a human, this is the first time I ever meet a human." The asari said excitedly and took her to a changing room.
Caius followed them so that he could keep an eye on his daughter. He watched as the asari had Emily try on outfis and get her size for underwear and socks. New shoes were also found. After an hour of going through clothes, Caius paid the Asari and had Emily change into her new clothes and shoes. The girl now wore a green suit in a similar color to her eyes. She was pulling on her white collar not used to having a collar.
Caius chuckled at her. "You get used to it eventually… I think."
Emily glared at him, which made him chuckle even more. "Come on Kiddo let's get lunch."
Emily stopped glaring a nodded. He entered the coordinates of the restaurant the doctor recommended. He noticed that it was walking distance from where they currently were. As they got closer he noticed something that made him groan softly. The building was square with different colors on it. The windows showed an indoor playground and tables and chairs next to it. He had an idea of what restaurant the doctor suggested. As they got to the restaurant they say something that delighted Emily but made Caius grown. A volus was standing in front of the restaurant, the volus had numerous colors painted on his suit, and was juggling three small balls with his biotics. Caius looked up at the sign and confirmed his nightmare. "Welcome to McMadore." The clown like volus greeted them.
Caius looked down at Emily and saw that she had a bright smile on her face and he knew they would be eating here for lunch. He sighed. "Alright lets go to the counter and order."
She ran up to the counter with Caius right behind her. At the counter he sees a green salarian behind the counter. "Welcome to McMadore can I take your order."
"May I have the Fathree nuggets kids' meal please." Emily ordered.
The salarian took her order before looking at her finally noticing that the girl is a human. The salarian stares at her before Caius made a coughing sound to get the salaian's attention. He looked at the turian taking his order. After paying for the food they entered the play area. He noticed a pair of parents on one table just watching the play area. He saw an old male drinking water also watching the play area. He looked at the play area and noticed that a boy and two girls were looking at Emily curiously. He looked down at her. "Go play."
Emily smiled brightly, and ran to the playground. He then noticed that the adults saw Emily. They then turned to look a Caius. He saw that the older turian look at him in recognition in his eyes. Caius turned back to the kitchen and noticed three barefaced turians working in the kitchen. A voice brought his attention back to the older turian. "Caius Callrix is that you?"
Caius looked at the older turian before he finally recognized. "Sgt. Epidinus long time no see." He greeted his old drill sergeant.
"Long time indeed I heard you made general."
"Still am technically."
"What brings you here?"
"Hierarchy command deemed it top secret."
"Ahh, I can guess it's about the human in the playground."
Caius hummed neither admitting or denying it. Epidinus taking the hint decided to change the subject. "What's her name?"
"Emily Callrix."
"Callrix?"
"Had to change her last name for school."
"I see."
"You have a grandchild?"
"Yeah, Juvelea." He looked up as he saw the children talking and Emily seeming to be making friends with the turian children. "Her parents are at the Citadel right now providing extra security as the humans set up their embassy."
"Already?"
"Well the war lasted 30 years with back and forth gains through out so it shouldn't be a surprise."
Caius just hums. He notices that one of the barefaced turians came to deliver their food. He placed the food on the table, before heading back to the kitchen. "Emily food is here."
"Coming."
He saw her get into the slide and slid down the slide before running towards the table. She went to the table and sat down on the chair where her nuggets were. She started eating her food. Caius then sits down. "Would you like to have a seat drill sergeant."
"Don't mind if I do." He said as he took a seat.
Through out the meal Caius, Epidinus and Emily talked about various subjects. Eventually, Juvelea came over and joined in. When Emily was done with her meal she and Juvela went back to playing on the playground. For the next hour or so Emily and Juvela were playing in the playground while the turians caught up on anything not classified. Eventually through the grown up turians needed to head home and called the children back. The two children ran to their respective guardians. "Come on kiddo let's head home."
"Okay, bye Juvela hope to see you at school."
"By Emily hope to see you to."
The two sets of people went their separate ways. The two got into the sky car. As the sky was heading home Emily asked a question. "At the school, hospital, and the shop you called me your daughter can you be my dad?"
There was a moment of silence. "Do you want me to be your dad?"
"I never had a dad before my mom told me he died before I was born, and when you told people I was your daughter it made me happy."
Caius took a peak down at Emily and saw her peak up at him. "I like calling you my daughter and I am happy to have you as my daughter."
Emily smiled brightly. "Thank you dad, I am happy to have you as my dad."
