How long has it been, he thought with a fond grumble, 18 years?
His ever-present, softly flickering flames provided a much-needed change to the Yellow glow permeating every crack and cranny of Riley's Mind World. To his left was Dis-Interest. Interest's soft, Yellow-green skin paired nicely with her Yellow-and-green striped dress, as did the lone Yellow strip in her hair.
To his right would have been Her Majesty, (despite her continued insistence, he would never stop calling her that while Her Child was awake.) but She wanted to personally deal with some troublesome new Emotions trying to harm Riley.
What were they thinking, those-!
Deep breath in and hold it; his reddish-Yellow skin glowed brightly in response.
Releasing it, his skin followed suit.
They'll know better.
Turning towards Anticipation on the other end of the Console, the light brown stick-head Emotion was excitedly speed-reading through his predictions for the future.
"A-al-alright, alright, I-I-I have 'A pile of money appearing on the ground', 'The opportunity to brighten someone's day', 'Giving food money to John while passing BnL', and-."
"Being Compassionate."
That was two voices in one phrase.
Queen Joy floated through the open, oval window over Her majestic throne of light, each of their colors a whisp that merely added to Hers. Next to Anticipation was Compassion, a soft blend of blue and Yellow, whisps of green swirling in her skin. The collective Joy of the Throne room rose as they all knelt and bowed, Her Majesty waiting, then bidding them to rise.
"She consoled her parents."
"Told a great joke to a stranger who was feeling down."
"Turned the other cheek when someone behind her cursed her out."
Raising Her hand as Her face creased into an alarming frown, She halted Interest while shaking Her head.
"Hold still, my Council. The Subconscious is starting to rebel."
Holding his peace, they watched in awe as She summoned Her scepter and, with a blinding glow, tapped it against the floor. Waiting a few seconds, they sighed in relief as She nodded serenely.
"At least these periods have drastically lessened over the years."
Nodding toward him in response, she strode to the center of the Console while observing the screen, gently tapped the center button, and grinned widely at the bloody fight their girl had gotten into. A Memory from Long-Term was called up, its vivid red overshadowed by Her glorious Yellow.
