It was a calm peaceful night on the island of Kaua'i. Everyone in the Pelekai household were sleeping, all except Lilo. She kept tossing and turning trying to relax but it wasn't helping. She sat up and leaned over the side of her bed. Stitch was laying there sleeping peacefully. She sighed as she sat up and reached under her pillow, pulling out 2 of her very special pictures. One being the photo of herself, Nani, and their parents at the beach. The second picture was a photo of herself and her best friend the both of them smiling happily without a care in the world. She remembered the day that Stitch took that picture. Stitch was playing with her camera taking goofy pictures.
Flashback:
"Stitch that's not a toy!" Lilo exclaimed, but also giggling at the little blue alien.
"Stitch having fun! Smile!" He said as he aimed the camera at the little girl.
Lilo laughed, "Stitch! Stop wasting my camera film silly!"
"One more," Stitch leaped up on her bed with her, holding the camera out in front of them.
"Okay, okay," Lilo giggled and she scooted closer to Stitch, making a funny face.
Stitch also made a funny face, holding up two claws behind Lilo's head, making it look like bunny ears and he snapped the picture.
They looked at it together and laughed at it.
"Now that's a funny picture!" Lilo giggled.
"Ih!" Stitch agrees!" The little alien said.
End flashback:
Lilo smiled at the memory. It was one of many of her special memories shared with Stitch. She couldn't imagine her life without him. He was her Ohana, her best friend in the whole world. She was so scared when she almost lost him. Lilo's smile faded as images of Stitch laying in the fusion chamber lifeless flashed through her mind and then tears started forming in her eyes. It had been almost a week since it happened. Though she knew Stitch forgave her, the guilt was still eating her up inside. She felt horrible for the way she treated him.
"Lilo. I-I sorry!"
"Something wrong with Stitch."
"I know what's wrong with you. Your bad. And you'll always be bad!"
Lilo's harsh words echoed in her mind and she closed her eyes begging the memory to go away. She hugged the picture close to her chest, choking back a soft sob, tears falling from her eyes. She wished that she could take back all of the mean things that she said. She kept holding the photo like it was her lifeline.
Just then she heard a familiar voice called out to her softly. "Lilo? You okay?"
Lilo opened her eyes to see Stitch at the foot of her bed looking concerned for his best friend. The girl quickly rubbed her cheeks in attempt to hide her tears.
"Oh Stitch, yeah I'm good," Lilo said quickly giving him a little smile.
Stitch wasn't fooled. "No you're not. Stitch heard you crying," he replied.
Lilo sighed softly. Of course he heard her cries. He had super strong hearing abilities. There was never getting anything passed him.
"Its nothing Stitch.."
The little blue alien shook his head, crawling over to sit beside her. "Stitch knows you better then that Lilo," he said. "What's wrong? You have bad dream?"
"No.." Lilo replied. She sighed softly knowing there was no point in trying to hide it from him. She swallowed the lump forming in her throat, a few tears fell from her eyes. "I couldn't sleep.."
"Why not?" Stitch asked.
"Because...I still feel so bad for the way I treated you when you had that glitch." Lilo said, her voice breaking as she continued. "I was so mean to you and it wasn't even your fault! I hurt you and I was selfish, I let a stupid hula competition get to my head and..I'm just sorry Stitch I'm so so sorry!" Her small body started to tremble as she struggled to continue. "I was so scared I thought I lost you forever!"
Stitch felt his heart shatter at the sight of his best friend. He quickly pulled her into an embrace holding her close to him. "Aw Lilo, shhh, it's okay, it's okay, I'm here, I got you," he rubbed circles around her back to soothe her.
The little girl hugged her best friend tightly refusing to let him go as she cried into his chest. "I'm so sorry Stitch I'm so sorry!" Lilo kept saying.
"Shh, shh, I know I know, Lilo calm down it's okay," Stitch said softly.
"No! It's not okay! How can you forgive me so easily?" Lilo asked as she kept sobbing.
"Because we are Ohana, that's what Ohana does. Love each other, forgive each other always no matter what." He told her gently.
Lilo buried her face into his chest, hugging him even tighter. "Oh Stitch, I love you so much, you're the best friend I ever had and I promise nothing will ever come between us like that again."
"Stitch loves you too Lilo, always," he replied as he tightened his hold on her and kept rubbing her back.
Lilo took a few breaths to try and calm herself down and rested her head on his chest.
Stitch began to rock the little girl in his arms, and then he started to hum softly and sang her a soft lullaby. "When storm clouds grow, and I feel blue, your song comes drifting on the trade winds. Your bright smile shines, like sun on sand, and island dream of you."
Lilo smiled softly, as Stitch sang to her. She was beginning to relax and her small body had stopped trembling. She felt at peace with Stitch's arms around her. She rested her head on his shoulder. "Mahalo Stitch," she said softly.
The little blue alien smiled down at her and he rested his head on top of hers, holding her close. "You're welcome, Stitch will always be here for you Lilo. I promise."
Lilo felt her eyes becoming heavy, she yawned softly as she closed her eyes and finally fell asleep in the arms of her best friend.
Stitch smiled and he stroked her hair, then carefully shifted his body to lay down but he still kept his arms around Lilo. He gazed at the sleeping girl and gently kissed the top of her head.
"Night night Lilo," he whispered to her.
And soon he fell asleep with her, holding her close. His head resting on top of hers. Both of them smiling in their sleep. Dreaming of many more adventures together. Because they were Ohana. Best friends forever and nothing was ever going to change that.
End
