Duban challenged Jack to the final Duel. It was quickly decided that Juliet would face Ghard and Jack would take on Duban.
This leaves Kamdida for Leo, Juliet managed to take down Ghard and the two immediately became friendly like nothing had happened. Now it is Leo's time to take on a Dwemer.
36. Light of Hope - Part 2.
In the back of the van Leo was mindlessly shuffling his Deck then drawing cards, he constantly repeated this. He was nervous.
With other enemies they would just jump in and ran with it, no thinking just survival instincts. Here however there was no immediate threat with the Dwemer, these Duels were chosen, he now had time to think about going into battle.
Sooner than he had wanted the van stopped in front of the dock's entrance.
Leo was mentally prepared as he entered the docks, this wasn't even an important Duel to him. In fact he was angry, Tamamo was a threat. Duban had a way to defeat her, only because they had a small inconvenience against the Aldmer and Errol he now wanted to fight.
Leo knew he had better things to do then fighting Kamdida only to satisfy Duban's ego. Of course he hasn't forgotten that Kamdida nearly killed Ravin, he wasn't planning on forgiving her.'
He was near the arena as he looked at the freighter he saw a single figure already standing in the arena, he didn't hesitate as he started to climb to the top of the arena. 'I was hoping I'd fight you.' Kamdida spoke without even turning around, she was wearing black leggings, a black, sleeveless, leather top and black combat boots, most of her hair was hidden by a black bandanna. She had a regular Duel Disk and D-Gazer.
'No high-tech enhancements Kamdida?' Leo replied.
'Not for me, I like to keep my body pure unlike Ghard and Duban. I don't need to dirty my high-end Dueling equipment on the likes of you either.' She arrogantly said.
'Look let's just get this over with.' Leo replied he sounded annoyed: 'I have other things to worry about, namely Tamamo, if not for Duban I wouldn't even be here.'
Kamdida relaxed a bit, her eyes softened. 'That's what I told Duban, I told him he should put aside his childish differences with Jack. Focus on Tamamo now and take you Blades out after.' She let out a sigh: 'But Duban is stubborn, he wanted to take out Tamamo immediately when those Aldmer and Errol attacked you guys Duban's plan wasn't going his way anymore and he got angry. Completely stupid if you ask me.'
Leo shrugged: 'Though the three of you all were the boss. Why does Duban call the shots?' Leo asked he was surprised that Duban pushed this through on his own.
'Well officially Duban is the boss over Ghard and me. We make all the decisions together but if we can't agree on something Duban has the last call. He simply decided to use that power right now, nothing me and Ghard can do about that.' She activated her Duel Disk and D-Gazer, Leo followed suit. 'Besides my honor won't allow me to back down now. You are an enemy and you Blades dared to stand up to us we can't let that slide.'
Leo drew his opening hand: 'In that case I will enact some justice for The Blades as well. I haven't forgotten you nearly killed Ravin, was about to let it slide for now, make you pay for that after we dealt with Tamamo. But seeing your reaction now I think this is about as good a time as any.' Kamdida tensed up a bit, her eyes turned serious, Leo on the surface looked calm, he was nervous but he wasn't about to show that to the Dwemer. 'Duel!' Both shouted.
(Leo: 8000) - (Kamdida: 8000)
Leo took two of his cards he quickly played them, first a face-down monster appeared with another set card behind it. 'I end my turn.' The Blade stated.
'Leo appears calm, he's not his eye's twitching, he's sweating. I will demoralize him he'll go down without a fight. My hand's stacked so this shouldn't take long.' Kamdida quickly played a card the blue, mechanical egg-shaped engine: Sky Core appeared. (0 ATK)
'Next I activate Dark Hole!' She roared the sky broke open, a black mass started swirling Sky Core was sucked in first on Leo's side a yellow bird appeared in place of the face-down monster, it had green legs and multicolored wings and a matching plume, it also got sucked into the vortex, Kamdida knew this was Blackwing - Auster the South Wind.
'With Sky Core destroyed I special summon: Machine Emperor Skiel Infinity, Skiel Top, Skiel Attack, Skiel Guard and Skiel Carrier!' The parts on the mighty, flying machine rose out of the water, quickly they formed mechanical, bird-like Machine Emperor, the blueish core shifted around in the infinity symbol in its chest. (2200 ATK)
'Direct attack!' The machine aimed its turret that was mounted at the bottom of its body.
'I activate Negate Attack!' Leo shouted just as the machine fired, a shield appeared around Leo blocking the laser.
'As expected you would avoid damage.' Kamdida shrugged: 'At least I got your field empty.' She signaled the end of her turn.
Leo drew his card and added it to his hand.
Kamdida was calm, a confident smile on her face. 'So you've lost your big talk, now that you see my Machine Emperor up close your will to serve me your justice seems to have died out.' She laughed.
'I want you to do the same thing you did to Ravin, now.' Leo demanded.
'That's against tournament rules.' The Dwemer replied.
'Those rules don't matter, or are you afraid of losing?' Leo mockingly replied. 'I have no desire to kill you Blade, but since you insist I will oblige.' Kamdida spread her arms, the core shifting in Skiel's chest lit up a glowing infinity symbol appeared on the ground each of the Duelists stood in one of the circles. 'Don't come crying to me when I end your life Blade, you asked for this!'
Leo said nothing as he took a card from his hand: 'I summon Sirocco the Dawn, which I can do since my field has no monsters.' Leo stated.
Before him appeared the humanoid bird ready for battle, his wings spread ready to take off. (2000 ATK)
'With one Blackwing on the field I special summon Bora the Spear!' He continued, next to the tall Blackwing appeared the smaller bird-man he held his drill spear ready to strike. (1700 ATK)
'I activate the effect of Sirocco on Bora, combining their attack points.' Bora revved up his drill as his power increased. (1700- 3700 ATK)
'Bora the Spear attack Skiel Infinity!' Leo roared the Blackwing took to the sky readying himself, when he had enough height he took a dive straight at the chest of Skiel.
'I activate Skiel C3!' Kamdida roared as her trap activated, Skiel Carrier disconnected a set of new wings connected to Skiel, these ones were were shaped like blades, Skiel got slightly stronger. (2200- 2400 ATK)
'Skiel Carrier 3 can negate one attack per turn!' Kamdida shouted the machine folded its wings around its body Bora's attack was easily deflected.
'I end my turn.' Leo stated, the attack points of Bora returned to normal.
Kamdida drew her card. 'Leo I'm going to make you experience what Ravin experienced.' She pressed a button on her Disk. 'I activate Skiel A3!' Skiel Attack disconnected, a mechanical dragonfly submerged from the water it changed into an arm and connected to the mechanical menace. (2400- 2600 ATK)
'With Skiel Attack 3 I can halve the attack of Skiel and attack directly!' Leo braced himself for impact as Skiel aimed its laser cannon at the Blade, its attack points dropped a bit. (2600- 1300 ATK)
It then fired perfectly between Leo's monsters, a searing pain shot through Leo's shoulder where the laser hit him. He cursed loudly as he moved his arm to see if anything was broken.
(Leo: 8000- 6700) - (Kamdida: 8000)
'And that was only a taste of what is to come Leo.' The Dwemer said, she signaled the end of her turn.
Leo's arm was already sore and that was only from a light attack, a sharp pain shot through his shoulder as he drew his card, immediately he played it, a face-down monster appeared on his side of the field.
He then shifted his other two monster cards around, both his Blackwing knelt down, Sirocco crossed his arms and Bora used his spear to defend himself with. (Sirocco: 1200 DEF, Bora: 800 DEF)
'I end my turn.' The Blade stated.
'Enticing me to attack directly by placing all your monsters in defense mode? One Tuner there and you can Synchro summon. Now Skiel can effectively remove Synchro monsters, but I cannot underestimate you. I caught Ravin by surprise since he didn't seem to know what the Machine Emperors could do. But you know fully well. If I can prevent a Synchro summon I should do so. Won't take any risks.' Kamdida smiled she knew what to do, she drew her card.
'I replace Skiel Carrier 3 for Skiel Carrier 5.' Kamdida stated, the wings disconnected and a new mechanical creature rose from the dirty water this was a small machine without arms or legs and a bunch of electric tentacles coming out of its head, once it connected to the back the tentacles formed an intricate pattern that formed the wings, Skiel got slightly stronger once again. (2600- 2800 ATK)
'I won't let you build an army Leo, with Skiel Carrier 5 whenever I destroy a monster you take three-hundred damage!' Skiel aimed its laser cannon it shot straight through Bora the Spear, the laser deflected off of the container then hit Leo in his knee. A jolt went through his body but this one was less painful than the attack that hit his shoulder.
(Leo: 6700- 6400) - (Kamdida: 8000)
Leo kicked with his leg a few times to get the feel back in it, once the pain had numbed he checked his D-Gazer. 'No information on any of Skiel's parts. I know it can negate one of my attacks.' He drew his card. 'And now I can attack Skiel twice with a strong monster. This turn I will end Skiel.
Leo grinned as he flipped his face-down monster card around. Gale the Whirlwind appeared out of a small tornado the green feathers on its head a bit ruffled. (1300 ATK)
Leo crossed his arms, his Signer Mark lit up, a green light shot out into the sky illuminating the docks.
'Black gales lead the way, ride the winds of freedom! Synchro Summon! Soar, Black-Winged Dragon!' Leo chanted, first the roar of the mighty, black dragon was heard, then under the light of the moon the beast became visible, it was circling around the freighter. (2800 ATK)
'I banish Auster the South Wind, this allows me to place Black Feather Counters on my Black-Winged Dragon equal to the amount of cards you control!' Both wings of the Signer Dragon turned to silver as it gained five counters, the attack power of the beast plummeted. (2800- 0 ATK)
Black-Winged Dragon roared as it gained some height.
'I remove all the Counters from my Black-Winged Dragon to reduce the attack points of Skiel Infinity by seven-hundred for each Counter, then you take damage equal to the attack power your Skiel lost!'
The Signer Dragon dove down towards Skiel, its wings glowing with incredible force the dragon flew past the machine cutting it with its wings, Skiel had visible damage, chunks of its armor fell into the water. (Skiel: 2800- 0 ATK, Black-Winged Dragon: 0- 2800 ATK) The Signer Dragon turned around towards Kamdida, the Dwemer dropped herself down onto the container before the dragon hit her full force as well.
(Leo: 6400) - (Kamdida: 8000- 5200)
Kamdida slowly stood up, her back was sore from the impact. 'That hurt.' She stammered. 'You didn't know?' Leo replied in disbelieve: 'This is what you put Ravin through and now you know what pain he felt, I'm not about to stop Kamdida.' Leo played another card: 'I summon Blackwing - Hurricane the Tornado!' A very muscular bird-man appeared, he wore a white tank-top and blue pants, red and yellow feathers were mixed in with the black feathers that covered the top of his head. (0 ATK)
'Hurricane the Tornado can copy the current attack points of a Synchro on the field.' The buff bird-man flexed his muscles they got even bigger. (0- 2800 ATK)
'Hurricane the Tornado attack Skiel Infinity!' Leo commanded, the bird-man took an incredible leap at the mechanical monstrosity.
'Like Skiel Carrier 3, Skiel Carrier 5 can also negate an attack.' Kamdida stated, the machine folded its wings again, Hurricane tried to punch his way through but the steel of Skiel proved too much.
'Black-Winged Dragon!' Leo roared, the Signer Dragon took another dive ready to end the Machine Emperor.
'Skiel Guard negate the attack!' Kamdida roared, again the machine folded its wings, Black-Winged Dragon crashed full-force into the Machine Emperor but couldn't even make a dent.
'Skiel won't get its attack points back, in that regard I've won, but she can absorb Black-Winged Dragon. I could use my Book of Moon to put it face-down, however if she flips it she can attack Hurricane, who at the end of my turn will have no attack points. I put Hurricane face-down and she needs to either destroy him or attack me directly with half damage.'
Leo played his spell card: 'I change Hurricane to face-down defense position.' Leo stated as the bird-man disappeared and a reversed card appeared in his place. 'I end my turn.'
Kamdida smiled as she drew her card: 'Smart move there Leo, I have cards in my Deck to flip monsters face-up, doesn't matter if I have one in my hand right now or not.' She showed a devious smile: 'You'll take massive damage anyway.' She quickly played a card, Skiel Attack 3 disconnected. 'I summon Skiel Attack 5.' The Dwemer stated as a cricket-like machine rose out of the water, it connected to the blue monstrosity. (0- 1400 ATK) 'Now that Skiel got some attack points back, I will add some more!' She shouted Skiel's chest opened up, wires shot out wrapping around Black-Winged Dragon, slowly the Signer Dragon got dragged towards the Machine Emperor where eventually it got dragged into the chest completely, electricity sparked around the Machine Emperor as it got stronger. (1400- 4200 ATK)
Kamdida smiled: 'With Skiel Attack 5 I can attack directly without halving my monster's attack points!'
Leo closed his eyes, before he knew he was thrown against the cold steel of the container it became dark immediately as he lost consciousness.
The Blade tried to move, his body wouldn't listen. He was about ready to give up suddenly a surge of warmth went through his body, he saw a feint glimpse of the Crimson Dragon, the immense pain in his body faded away, he opened his eyes when he looked up he saw a displeased Kamdida.
'So you want to continue your suffering? Fine.' She coldly said as she placed a card in her Duel Disk, it appeared face-down on the field.
(Leo: 6400- 2200) - (Kamdida: 5200)
Leo was wobbling, his vision still hazy, he felt like he was about to lose consciousness again. 'So that's it.' He muttered: 'That definitely would have been a killing blow.' He drew his card slowly. 'Your intend was never to kill Ravin wasn't it?'
A sly smile formed on Kamdida's face: 'We were bound to the command of Sabrina.' The Dwemer replied: 'Sabrina wanted Ravin dead so I obliged. I can't help it that the power of my Machine Emperor wasn't enough to kill him. Besides Sector Security was on the approach so I couldn't confirm my kill.'
Leo in the meantime played a card, the combined Pot of Desires appeared, without looking he pocketed the top ten cards from his Deck then he drew two, then he flipped Hurricane around the muscular bird-man reappeared. (0 ATK) 'So you held back under the pretense you went all-out to trick Sabrina. Then why did Ghard try to kill him in the hospital?' Leo asked.
'That was Duban's idea, Duban didn't want Ravin to die either even though he is a traitor. He send Ghard to see how he was doing, of course the pretense of wanting to kill him was Ghard's idea, we knew that Kailyn was with him and Ghard wanted to fight a Signer. Feel their power for himself.'
Kamdida looked Leo directly in his eyes: 'I can end your pain Leo just surrender and it's over.' The Dwemer spoke with a kind tone, Leo noticed a hint of fear. She was afraid she was losing control.
Leo showed a smile, he played a card and before him appeared the monstrous Elphin the Raven. (2000 ATK)
'I banish Elphin and Hurricane.' Leo stated the two Blackwing disappeared, suddenly the northern lights appeared in the air. 'I special summon Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights!' A small bird dropped from the sky, its body was covered in black feathers, its head with light-blue feathers and it had a pink plum on its head. (? ATK)
'Now I banish Full Armor Master to give Aurora its attack points and effect.' A spirit version of the mighty warrior appeared inside the northern lights, Aurora gained tremendous strength. (?- 3000 ATK)
'Next I activate Burial From a Different Dimension!' The spell flashed onto the field. 'I move Auster, Hurricane and Elphin back to the Graveyard.' He moved the three cards to his Graveyard then immediately removed one.
'I banish Auster again, this time using the effect to place a Wedge Counter onto one monster on the field.' Five small, metal feathers appeared in mid-air it slammed into Skiel's chest, wings, arms and head.
'Aurora who now is Full Armor Master takes control of a monster with a Wedge Counter!' Violently the chest of Skiel was pulled onto Leo's field.
'Without a Skiel Infinity all other Machine Emperor parts are destroyed!' Leo roared as the limbs and wings fell down into the dirty waters of the docks.
'I activate Nightmare Wheel!' Kamdida roared the torture device that resembled a demonic face crashed down onto the field.
'Not this time Kamdida, Full Armor Master and therefor Aurora is unaffected by other card effects!' Instead the torture device crashed down onto Skiel's body. 'Aurora!' Leo shouted the bird let out a screech lightning made of the northern lights struck Kamdida in her chest, she fell backwards from the impact.
(Leo: 2200) - (Kamdida: 5200- 2200)
'I end my turn, Aurora turns back to normal but not before the effect of Full Armor Master activates and destroys all monsters with a Wedge Counter.' Cracks appeared in Skiel it violently exploded as the core died out, the spirit of Black-Winged Dragon flew out back into freedom.
The moment Skiel was destroyed the infinity symbol on the floor disappeared, the pain immediately left Leo's body.
Kamdida folded her arms, her face showed no emotions. 'So are you done?' The Dwemer asked.
'I think I have passed my judgment, your aim was never to kill Ravin, you had to convince Sabrina. I have proven you didn't try to kill Ravin even though you did make an attempt on his life. I no longer see you as an enemy Kamdida, I think you should talk this over with Ravin see if he wants to forgive you. If Ravin cool with it than so am I.'
Kamdida's expression changed, she seemed more friendly now. 'Even though we've reached an understanding Leo, this is still a Duel in the tournament, I'm not about to let you go off easy!' She drew her card.
'I summon Mechanicalchaser!' A metal sphere with six arms, a head and a sword instead of legs appeared its arms ended in several weapons. (1850 ATK) 'Next I activate Dark Room of Nightmare.' A continuous spell appeared in front of Kamdida she then quickly played another card which appeared face-down. 'Mechanicalchaser!' Kamdida commanded the hunter machine lunged forward impaling Leo's bird with its spear then cut it down using its other weapons, as the bird died the northern lights disappeared with it.
(Leo: 2200- 350) - (Kamdida: 2200)
Leo said nothing as he drew his card, he knew what was coming.
'I activate Skull Invitation!' Kamdida shouted activating her face-down card, this was what Leo had expected.
'Now what Leo? If you summon a monster and I destroy it you lose because of Skull Invitation. You activate anything that is send to the Graveyard after it activated you take damage from Skull Invitation and then Dark Room of Nightmares takes you out, your options are limited.'
Leo chuckled: 'I'm done with this Kamdida!' He played a card: 'I activate Monster Reborn!' The holy light appeared with a roar Black-Winged Dragon burst out of the water, lightning that came from Skull Invitation struck Black-Winged Dragon. (2800- 2100 ATK)
'That damage comes right back at you!' Leo roared the Signer Dragon redirected the lightning which now struck Mechanicalchaser instead, then the lightning struck Kamdida. (Mechanicalchaser: 1850- 1150 ATK, Black-Winged Dragon: 2100- 2800 ATK)
(Leo: 350) - (Kamdida: 2200- 1500)
'Black-Winged Dragon attack Mechanicalchaser! Noble Stream!'
The Signer Dragon unleashed its full power its wings changed into steel and with one fluid motion the dragon cut Mechanicalchaser to shreds then it used its claws to deal the final blow to Kamdida.
(Leo: 350) - (Kamdida: 1500- 0)
Kamdida had offered Leo a ride in her personal van much like Ghard had offered to Juliet, Leo had accepted, the screen in the van suddenly turned on it showed Duban standing in the middle of the colosseum.
'Moments ago two Duels took place.' The Dwemer started.
'The New Government versus The Blades, my comrades Ghard and Kamdida were just defeated by Juliet and Leo respectfully.'
Duban turned around the camera zoomed out showing the colosseum.
'And soon the main event shall start, I will take on the leader of The Blades Jack. I know a lot of people would want to see this Duel and a lot of people wanted to see the two Duels that just ended.
Everyone is invited into the colosseum in an hour where the Duel shall take place. This Duel will decide who goes into the finals of the tournament for a chance to take on Mae from The Old Order!' The screen turned off again.
'Leo we're going to the restaurant where Ghard took Juliet.' Kamdida started casually.
Leo didn't reply. 'So not up for a casual conversation yet?' The Dwemer jokingly said.
'That's not it Kamdida.' Leo replied: 'It's just that I'm starved, so yes I take you up on your offer to go to the restaurant.'
A few minutes later both Leo and Kamdida stepped into the restaurant. 'Leo!' Kailyn shouted once she saw her teammate, in the back Serana who was playing poker with some Half-Dwemer looked up she signaled Leo to come over, their table was filled with delicious looking food.
In the back a slightly drunk Ghard had gotten hold over the karaoke microphone Juliet was singing with him, Ghard definitely didn't have a singing voice, Juliet sounded good, Juliet also sung the actual lyrics while Ghard was just singing whatever came to mind, a bunch of Half-Dwemer were cheering them on.
Kamdida slumped down on an empty couch she immediately grabbed the nearest bottle of wine and a plate of food.
All the way in the back Violet and Rini were sharing a moment together, Leo smiled as he saw the two being at ease here.
Leo!' Ghard roared as he passed the small stage: 'Join us!' Leo hesitated for a moment then Serana cheered him on, she even grabbed a microphone herself, ready to join.
'Those guys.' Kamdida sighted, she showed a big smile.
After almost an hour the party died out, Serana and Juliet were a little bit drunk as well. Though due to their vampire blood the two would be sober again fast, Leo had two beers he needed to stay alert enough for Tamamo.
Rini who had a bit too much wine tried to stand up, Violet helped her.
'Leo? You think Jack will mind if Rini and I stay here?' Violet asked.
'I'm sure he's okay with this, but no more wine for Rini.' He jokingly said.
As the Half-Dwemer and The Blades with Ghard went to the colosseum Kamdida went to a different stop first.
Ravin looked up from his bed as he noticed someone entering, his hand moved to the emergency button when he saw Kamdida.
'Ravin?' Her voice was kind, she spoke with a low volume as to not wake up other patients, since it wasn't visiting hour. 'May I come in?' She asked.
Ravin made no objections.
'I know you don't want to see me. I thank you for allowing me in.' She started, Ravin said nothing, he didn't even look at her.
'Ravin I know that no amount of apologizing will make up for what I did to you. You'd probably expect me to tell you a half-baked excuse, that Sabrina demanded you dead and that I had no choice but to accept...' Ravin raised his hand to stop her.
'Kamdida this is what I always hated about you. You always assume things. You always put yourself in the worst expectation possible.' Ravin let out a sigh he finally looked towards Kamdida. 'I know how Sabrina operates, that was the main reason I left. But if you want something that is morally rotten it is easier to do it when someone in a higher position demand you do it.'
Kamdida fell silent. 'You came at me with murderous intent and you had me dead to rights, but something changed and you didn't push through. Had you wanted it so we wouldn't be here talking.' Ravin spoke.
Kamdida hung her head, she was fighting back tears. 'You disregarded Sabrina's orders, when you did she was still alive, you didn't know whether Sabrina would walk out or The Blades. Ignoring her orders like you did, it required courage.'
Kamdida was surprised by this reaction, she had expected anything to happen except this. 'Why aren't you angry?' Kamdida whispered.
'Would that have made it easier?' Ravin replied: 'I can linger on the past Kamdida, but what happened happened, can't chance that. I survived our encounter and I am happy to be alive.'
Kamdida uncomfortably looked around the room before she looked at Ravin again. 'Yes I wished you'd be angry. That way I could have given you a sorry and leave knowing that I did my part.' She stopped: 'But now? I can't apologize enough. Leo opened my eyes Ravin. Sabrina is dead as are her ways and I am deeply sorry I took part in that.' She gently grabbed Ravin's hand and deeply bowed her head. 'I ask for your forgiveness Ravin.'
Ravin placed his hand on hers. 'I already have Kamdida. The moment you stepped in here I did. Showing up before me now. Showing your vulnerable side and asking me for forgiveness that took guts Kamdida. You are here on your own accord, nobody told you to be here. That wasn't easy, you coming here was more of an apology than actually saying you were sorry.' Ravin slowly stood up, he gave Kamdida a friendly hug then he let go. Kamdida was in tears.
Next time:
With both Ghard and Kamdida down only Duban remains. Jack, Leo, Juliet, Duban and Tamamo. The finals are in sight.
