Everything after that shout seemed to go really fast and painfully slow at the same time.
Millie had stopped a few feet from where Chuck had. Sam right behind her. Chuck turned and was staring in shock at Sam. Castiel and Eileen had run out to join the group, Jodie following after as she had paused to throw some bills on the table first. By the time they had reached Sam and Millie, Chuck had recognized who else was standing in front of him.
"Well...this works," he said, reaching into his jacket.
Sam moved to in front of Millie as Chuck pulled...something out of his jacket.
Chuck pointed.
Sam turned, using himself to shield Millie.
Then both Sam and Millie were on the ground, neither seemed to be moving. Still twisted together as Sam had been moving her out of harm's way.
And then...they were gone. The sidewalk where they had fallen - empty.
Cas charged up to the grinning Chuck, who quickly dropped whatever he was holding. Cas didn't care to look, just grabbed the lapels of Chuck's jacket.
"What did you do?"
The former god giggled. "I'm finally rid of Winchesters..."
Jodie picked up the discarded weapon. "You tased him?" she asked incredulously.
Cas turned to her, still gripping Chuck's jacket. "What?"
"It's a taser. Police grade." She shrugged.
"That doesn't explain how they disappeared though," Eileen countered.
They all turned back to face Chuck, who was still just giggling.
"Where are they Chuck?" Castiel growled again, giving a shake to his former boss.
He just kept giggling.
"Don't think he's gonna tell us..."
Cas released Chuck's jacket and turned to the ladies. "I think I know who can make him talk." Chuck turned as if to walk away and Cas clamped a hand onto his shoulder. "But...I think we should take this inside first."
Jodie nodded, pulling out her keys. "I've got rope in the truck."
Bobby walked into the kitchen to grab himself a beer and sighed. It's not that he didn't greatly appreciate being in heaven. Better than other options. And he and his sweet Karen had been catching up. There were obviously some awkward discussions surrounding Karen's route to heaven. And then the time since then... But they were working it out. It was like dating again. It was good. Really.
But damn if he wasn't bored!
He had read through all his books three times over already. And it's not like he hadn't already done that when he was alive. If he could just...he didn't know. Help in some way. He wasn't interested in reincarnation or anything like that. Just...maybe like a heavenly tip line for hunters.
Maybe he'd talk to Jack about it the next time he stopped by. He didn't want angel status or anything crazy like that. But maybe they could set up a phone line of sorts. Start small, see where it goes.
As he made his way out to the porch with his beer, the idea kept growing in his head. He was thinking through some of the hunters still down on the ground that they could start helping. And even a few hunters up in the clouds that might be down to help here and there as well.
"Bobby."
The ballcapped former hunter paused on his way to a chair and turned to see Castiel standing just off the porch.
"Hey Cas. Funny you should stop by. I was thinking-"
"I'm sorry Bobby. I was looking for Dean."
"Oh, sure. Yeah. Think he's still out driving. Maybe he stopped at his folks' place." Bobby stood and took in the casual yet frantic movements of the angel. "Something wrong...?"
Castiel opened his mouth to reply. Then stopped. Hesitated...then went to say something again, but stopped himself again.
"Let me guess... Sam's gotten himself into some trouble." Bobby took the seat this time, a sigh of a different sort accompanying the movement. I'm not that bored...
"We found Chuck." It was a short statement. And yet, seemed to hold a whole lot more. "He's not talking and I need him to talk."
"Oh... I mean, I could...maybe...help..." No Bobby was hesitating. His previous thoughts running rampant through his head. A phone line. That's all I wanted. Tipline for research. Any further compulsory offerings of help were cut off by the sound of a car coming down the road. "Oh. Look. Dean's back."
Dean got out of the car and was casually strolling towards the house until he finally looked up and saw the audience his entrance had.
"Bobby...I brought pie..."
"Thanks..."
The awkward silence dragged...too long.
"Cas. What happened?" Dean finally snapped out, handing the leftover pie to Bobby.
Castiel actually shuffled his feet before finally just exploding with the information. "We found Chuck. He attacked Sam and Millie. They collapsed and then disappeared. And Chuck isn't saying where they are."
"What do you mean 'attacked'?" Dean asked, surprisingly calmly.
Cas gave the elder Winchester brother a cautious look. "He tased him." After no response, he continued, "Well actually, I think he was aiming initially for Millie, but Sam went to block it."
Another pause. The angel couldn't see the look on Dean's face, as he'd turned away from both him and Bobby. He finally turned and walked the few steps until he was right in front of Cas.
"Alright. Let's go."
"You sure...?" Bobby asked quietly. He knew Dean had been struggling with not being able to be around for his kid brother anymore. But he had been getting there. This...
"Chuck is our mess, Bobby. Unfinished business after the fact." He turned to give his old friend a sly grin. "And you know I can make him talk."
Before Bobby could say anything, Cas had put his hand on Dean's shoulder and they had popped away, leaving him with his beer.
Another different sigh. "Balls..."
