An abyss separated them. A gap that had no intention of shrinking. It was and would be, but it didn't bother them, not now, when they stood on two different sides and looked at each other with hatred and love that they couldn't show, speak or make tangible.

The murmuring of the water reached their ears, being the only sound they could hear except for their own breaths. Sakura jumped to Sasuke first, driven by the wind, which was her ally today. She aimed a blow straight at his chest, but he defended himself and kicked her in the side. Sakura leapt away, landing not far away.

"We can end this differently, Sasuke! We used to be teammates after all!"

"But we're not teammates anymore!"

He ran up to her and concentrated chakra in his hand, aiming for her heart. Sakura dodged and destroyed a piece of the bridge; Sasuke managed to stand his ground. They began a hand-to-hand fight that lasted for ages, as neither of them wanted to strike that decisive blow.

Sasuke finally grabbed Sakura by the neck, and she allowed him to do so. His bloody face met hers wet with tears.

"Why..."

"You mean nothing to me. Nothing!" he said, not letting her get a word in edgewise.

They both knew it was a lie. And even though Sasuke couldn't lie that well, he did it anyway, because he had to do it to stop himself from letting her; from kissing her.

She meant too much to him, so he needed to get rid of her.
