CHAPTER 5

(ROMAN'S P.O.V)

It was 1:15am when I parked in the Hemlock Grove residential cul de sac. The streets were not only cold, but quiet as a lamb. "Roman, Peter," Jessica turned to me and Peter. "Adilyn and I are so grateful that we ran into you guys. You've been a tremendous help, and we just want to say thank you." Jessica smiled. "Don't mention it," I responded, smiling back at her. "Thanks," Adilyn said smiling and glanced at Peter. Jessica then opened the car door, and got out, then walked in front of my car, heading to the house that we parked in front of. As I watched Jessica strode pass me, I realized that I was making a mistake in ending our encounter like this. "Jessica wait!." I called out. I then quickly got out of my car and followed her. "Can we keep in touch?," I boldly asked, as Jessica's facial expression turned to a look of genuine surprise. "I don't mean to come off as weird," I said, a bit embarrassed. "Aside from Peter, it's been awhile since I made a genuine friend. I've learnt that when you make genuine friendships it's to hold onto them. So I'm asking if ours can continue." I wholeheartedly requested. There was just something about Jessica that allured me to her.

I mean sure I'm incredibly thankful that she restored my humanity to me, which was part of my fascination, however there was something more. Jessica's personality was a breath of fresh air. She's like a ray of sunshine that seemed to brighten the darkness in me. I have met a few graceful women in my lifetime, but never one like Jessica Hamby. "I feel the same," Peter suddenly said, standing next to me now. Instead he was facing Adilyn who stood next to Jessica as well. "Which is why I also want to keep in touch as well." So we then quickly gave them our phone numbers, since they didn't have cellphones on them at the time, as we promised one another to keep in touch. Peter and I walked back to my car, as Jessica rang the doorbell. We stood by my car, as we decided to wait for the girls to go in safely before we left.

"What was that?," Peter playfully shoved me, as he gave me a knowing grin. "New beginnings," I simply said,as we watched a guy answer the door, while the girls stepped inside. "I just want you to know that I'm sorry for how everything played out all up to our potential deaths." Peter apologized. "And I meant what I said infront of Destiny. I forgive you Roman for killing Destiny, and from now on our friendship comes first, especially when trouble is a foot." Without warning, I bear hugged Peter. "Thank you Peter," my voice cracked with emotion, as tears flowed down my face. "That's all I ever wanted. I'm sorry I lost my temper, and killed Destiny. If I could go back and change the past I would. You and I have been given a second chance, so let's not waste it." "Let's make a pact," Peter then said, as we let go of each other. "From now on we don't see each other as just friends. We're more than that given what we've experienced together. From now on we're brothers." Peter declared, as tears ran down his face as well.

I felt the heavy weight of guilt finally lifted off my shoulders. So this is what it feels like to be redeemed. This must be what Annie felt, and tried to make me understand. At the time I couldn't understand her perspective, because I hadn't experienced what redemption was. But now I was certain that the universe, God, whomever controlled fate, was giving me a chance to redeem myself. I checked my watch feeling alive more than ever. It was 1:40am now. "How about instead of heading home, we go hunting." I suggested. "Hunting?," Peter frowned at me in surprise. "The girls had said that we would be human at dawn. Which means you're still a wolf and I Upir. Let's go hunting in the woods one last time, Animals of course. This is the last time we will be supernaturals. I say our last hunting marks the dawn of a new era of our lives." "You know what?, you're right. Let's do it." Peter agreed, heading to the front passenger seat.

TO NEW BEGINNINGS…
