In the midst of an intense battle, the echoes of cries and the clash of powerful forces resonated in the air. May, caught in the grip of danger, cried out for help, her voice a desperate plea.
"Go now Rayquaza!" Ash commanded the mighty Dragon. As the tension escalated, Rayquaza charged in towards Deoxys as he held May firmly in his grip. With a thunderous slam, Rayquaza collided directly into Deoxys. Deoxys recoiled in pain, forced to release May from his clutches. Gasping for breath, May found herself freed, and Ash wasted no time in grabbing hold of her. She clung to him, seeking solace and safety in his embrace. The threat momentarily subsided as Rayquaza backed off from Deoxys, creating a temporary respite.
"He-He almost..." May panted, her voice shaky with the intensity of the ordeal.
"I know," Ash responded, holding her closely, offering reassurance in the face of danger. May clung to him, seeking comfort and finding refuge in the strength of their connection. But the respite was short-lived as Deoxys, glaring with malice, unleashed a powerful Hyper Beam.
"Look out…!" May gasped.
"Dodge it Rayquaza!" Rayquaza swiftly maneuvered out of harm's way, but May held onto Ash even more tightly, fearing the impending danger. Spurred on by her grip and his desire to keep her safe, Ash shouted his next command, "Dragon Pulse!"
"Ray!" The powerful attack struck Deoxys, causing him to grunt in pain.
"Yes!" Ash grinned. The battle raged on, and the trainers felt a glimmer of hope in the midst of their struggle. It was then that Deoxys retaliated with a Psycho Boost, but Ash had a plan and called their next move, "Use Dragon Ascent full force!"
"Quaza!" Swiftly responding, Rayquaza flew up and dodged the attack, before he then came roaring down with his strongest Dragon Ascent yet. Deoxys barely had time to put up a Protect before Rayquaza collided with him full force. The clash of these incredible forces intensified, the battlefield becoming a cosmic spectacle. With Deoxys resorting to a change into Defense Form to strengthen his Protect, Rayquaza likewise increased his power to try and break through.
"Keep going Rayquaza! Push through!" Ash urged Mega Rayquaza to persist. The Protect began to crack under the sheer force of Mega Rayquaza's assault.
"It's working!" May gasped.
"Keep it up!" Ash encouraged, determination burning in his eyes. Mega Rayquaza, fueled by unwavering resolve, finally broke through the Protect, battering Deoxys with Dragon Ascent. "Alright!" Ash exclaimed, seizing the advantage. Deoxys tumbled through space, vulnerable and on the brink of defeat. "Finish this! Dragon Ascent again!"
"Quaza!" Rayquaza charged back in with all his strength behind him as May held onto Ash tightly and Ash braced them both for the massive impact. Within seconds, Rayquaza collided with Deoxys full force and the foreign Pokemon screeched in pain. Rayquaza slowed down his acceleration and turned around, allowing all three of them to watch as Deoxys groaned in pain and finally blacked out, slowly floating off into the distance.
"He's down," Ash declared, the sense of accomplishment evident in his voice.
"Is that it...? Did we win...?" May questioned, holding onto Ash tightly.
"Yeah," Ash confirmed with a nod, a moment of relief washing over them.
"Thank goodness…" May sighed in relief, expressing gratitude. She held onto Ash even tighter, and he reciprocated by holding her as closely as possible.
"Let's go home," Ash suggested. With a nod from May to confirm, Rayquaza, their powerful ally, started heading back towards the Sky Pillar.
"I love you," May whispered.
"I love you too," Ash whispered back. Together, they embraced the victory and the bond that had seen them through the trials of the battle.
As the echoes of battle began to fade, May and Ash found themselves on the precipice of a different conversation. With the victory still fresh in the air, May hesitated before breaking the silence.
"Before we get back... I wanted to... ask you out on that date again," May confessed, her voice carrying a hint of vulnerability.
"Oh really?" Ash responded, a playful tone in his voice.
"If you're still interested..." May continued, giving a small nod.
"I am. But I want you to get healed up before we go anywhere," Ash expressed concern, putting her well-being above all else.
"It's just... there's an event in a few days that I really want to go to with you," May explained.
"What event?" he inquired, curiosity sparked in his eyes.
"I've got tickets for a private booth to watch the Litleonids Meteor Shower at the Mossdeep Space Center... it sounded like the perfect first date." May shared with a smile.
"Interesting," Ash remarked, his interest piqued.
"I really want to go with you... if you want to go," May admitted, seeking his genuine interest.
"Of course, I do, May," Ash replied with enthusiasm.
"Then... if I take it easy for a few days to recover... would you stay in Hoenn so we can go together...?" May proposed, a hopeful look in her eyes.
"Absolutely," Ash reassured, a warmth in his tone. May, smiling a little, cuddled closer to his chest, finding comfort in his presence. Ash reciprocated by holding her closely, their connection deeper than anyone would know. Their flight back down to Earth lasted a little long and soon enough Rayquaza flew back down to the Sky Pillar and stopped beside it. Serena ran over, concern etched on her features.
"Ash!" she exclaimed, her worry evident. Ash hopped off Mega Rayquaza with May in his arms. May carefully took off her helmet as Serena approached. Concerned, Serena asked, "Are you okay?"
"We're fine. We just had an unexpected encounter with a Deoxys after destroying the meteor," Ash explained, revealing the challenges they had faced as he too took off his suit beside May.
"A Deoxys?" Serena reacted with surprise.
"No way!" Pikachu chimed in.
"He attacked us and nearly shattered May's helmet," Ash added, providing more context.
"I think he was just freaked out..." May expressed her thoughts, looking up at the sky as she thought about the menace they had left behind.
"Guess I can't blame him if his home was shattered..." Pikachu considered. As she removed the last piece of her space suit, May winced, holding her waist and stumbling a little. Ash quickly caught her and steadied her body against his.
"Whoa there..." he cautioned her.
"Ow... guess the weightlessness made me forget about my injuries..." May acknowledged her injuries.
"Right," Ash concurred.
"Sorry," May apologized, recognizing the oversight.
"It's alright," Ash assured her.
"Well then I guess we should—" May began but gasped as Ash lifted her into his arms.
"We should get you some medical attention," Ash insisted, his concern evident. May blushed hard, and Serena clenched her fist at the sight.
"I-I can walk, Ash..." May attempted to protest.
"I won't allow it," Ash stated firmly.
"But..." May started to object.
"No buts," Ash insisted.
"O-Ok..." May blushed, succumbing to his insistence. "I guess you always are watching out for me…"
"You know it." Ash smiled a little, and May gave him a small smile in return. Pikachu, witnessing the scene, couldn't help but smile at the bond between Ash and May. Serena huffed in annoyance and was about to follow them out when she noticed Aster at her feet.
"Huh?"
"Mum." the little Pokemon responded, handing her a letter. Serena accepted and looked around, noticing Zinnia was no longer on the roof with them. She turned to look back at Aster, only to find she had vanished as well. Confused, she opened the letter and read it to herself, Zinna's voice narrating in her head.
"I was finally able to bring everything to an end. I thank you for that. I think I'll spend some time now trying to find out if it's also possible to forge a new beginning for something once lost. Until we meet again, Zinnia." the letter read.
"I know how you feel Zinnia..." Serena mumbled to herself.
"Serena, are you coming?" Ash called from the staircase.
"Oh." Serena snapped out of her thoughts. "Yeah, I'm coming."
A few hours later, all the teams had regrouped at Steven's house in Mossdeep City. May was resting in bed, Glaceon watching over her as she slept peacefully. Nurse Joy, having finished jotting down a few notes, walked out into the hallway. Ash, concerned for May's well-being, approached Nurse Joy as she exited Steven's guest room.
"Will she be alright?" he inquired.
"She'll be fine as long as she takes it easy for a few days. And gets plenty of rest." Nurse Joy nodded, reassuring him.
"Alright then," Ash acknowledged, trusting in the nurse's expertise.
"I'll check on her again tomorrow," Nurse Joy added before walking off. Steven, grateful for their assistance in resolving the crisis, walked over to Ash.
"She'll be ok?" he asked.
"She will be," Ash affirmed.
"I'm glad. While she's recovering, you're all free to stay as long as you need. The least I can do for all you did for Hoenn," Steven offered generously.
"Thanks, Steven," Ash expressed his gratitude.
"Thank you, Ash. I never could've solved this crisis without you and all your friends," Steven acknowledged.
"Don't mention it," Ash replied humbly.
"I've got a few more things to wrap up around town, so I'll be back later. I'm sure you all have things to take care of too. Again, you're all welcome to stay here as long as you need," Steven informed them before heading out.
"Sure thing, Steven," Ash responded with a nod. Steven smiled and left, leaving Ash with a sense of accomplishment.
"You said you're planning to stay here for a bit?" Pikachu asked, bringing up the brief conversation he and Ash had finished while they were waiting for word on May's condition.
"You know it," Ash confirmed.
"How are you going to tell the others without giving away your…little secret?" Pikachu asked, considering the delicate situation.
"I'm not exactly sure to be perfectly honest…maybe just that I want to make sure she's ok before we go? After all, she is my friend." Ash suggested, understanding the need for discretion.
"Just in case they get suspicious, huh?" Pikachu advised, smiling softly.
"Exactly," Ash replied, reciprocating the smile.
"Well, then you might want to just get it done fast now before anyone can get suspicious." Pikachu continued, "I think everyone's in the living room as a matter of fact."
"Alright then," Ash said, heading into the living room to join the others. In the living room, the atmosphere was filled with chatter as everyone interacted with one another. Brock and Clemont engaged in conversation, as did Max and Bonnie. Serena listened quietly off to the side, her thoughts seemingly distant. Brock, being the first to notice Ash's arrival, greeted him with a friendly tone.
"Hey there, you are. How's May?" he inquired.
"She's resting," Ash responded.
"But she'll be okay?" Max questioned, concerned for May's well-being.
"Of course, she will be," Ash reassured, his confidence unwavering.
"That's great." Brock smiled knowingly. Max and the Lumiose siblings nodded in agreement, relieved to hear the positive news. Serena, however, seemingly chose to ignore the news and move on to the next topic.
"Then I guess we should be booking a flight back to Kalos," she suggested, her mind already on their return journey. Truthfully, she wanted to get out of Hoenn as quickly as possible. For personal reasons of course.
"About that..." Ash began, his tone taking them by surprise. Serena raised an eyebrow, and Bonnie piped up curiously.
"Is something wrong, Ash?" Ash hesitated briefly before explaining,
"I was kinda hoping to stay here for a few more days to make sure May is fully recovered…" he explained, scratching the back of his head in an attempt to hide the small lie of omission he had told.
"You said yourself she'd be fine. You don't have to babysit her." Serena informed him.
"I know I know." he nodded. "It would just make me feel better…and besides she has these tickets to this event at the Mossdeep Space Center and-" Serena's eyes widened, and Bonnie gasped, unable to contain her shock.
"What?!" she exclaimed. Ahs winced and covered his mouth, realizing far too late of the mistake he had made.
"Y-You can't be...!" Serena started to voice her concern.
"That practically sounds like she asked you on a date!" Bonnie interjected.
"Did she...?! A-Are you...?!" Serena pressed further, seeking clarification. Pikachu glanced at Ash with concern, sensing the tension in the room as Ash's brain raced and scrambled to try and cover his blunder.
"It's not a date!" he quickly clarified, trying to sound offended by the very idea. Max, raising an eyebrow, observed the unfolding drama. Clemont, with a slight groan, suddenly intervened in the conversation.
"Bonnie, leave him alone. I didn't hear the word 'date' in what Ash said. I'm sure it's just friends spending time together after some time apart. And after everything that happened we could all use some downtime like that." he spoke up. Serena clenched a fist, trying to process the information. Brock, knowing far more about the situation compared to everyone else, offered his perspective.
"Well, I think it's very nice of you to go with her." he smiled.
"Well... only as long as she's feeling up to it," Max added.
"She said she will be," Ash assured them.
"Does that mean you're wanting to stay a few days longer? The show isn't until Friday." Clemont asked, remembering hearing talk about the show while he was working in the Space Center over the past few days.
"Right. I'm sorry to put you all out like this. If you need to go back to Kalos right away I can just meet back up with you all later." Ash offered.
"Well, I certainly don't mind staying a bit longer. I'm still interested in working with the Space Center team a bit longer." Clemont stated, expressing his willingness to stay longer.
"If you're staying I'm staying. No way I'm…I mean we're leaving you here by yourself." Serena chimed in, careful not to slip up as her anger rose.
"I want to stay too! I can find other girls in this region that can be a keeper for Clemont!" Bonnie enthusiastically agreed.
"Bonnie!" Clemont retorted, slightly embarrassed. Pikachu sighed in relief, and Ash shared the sentiment.
"If you're staying for a bit, Bonnie, I could show you around the island. There's tons of cool Pokémon around here." Max offered.
"Sure thing, Max!" Bonnie accepted, excited.
"I'm going to head back to the Space Center." Clemont decided. "What about you, Brock?"
"I'll head to the Pokémon Center for a while, I think." Brock considered. "Nurse Joy probably has her hands full with all the frightened Pokémon."
"It better be just that, Brocko." Max warned, only half joking.
"It will be,"Brock assured him, chuckling.
"He still has Croagunk on him to keep him in line after all." Ash laughed.
"What about you, Serena?" Clemont asked, turning to the honey blonde who had been quiet for a few minutes now.
"Oh, I'll just be looking around the place is all," Serena replied, her gaze lingering on Ash for a few moments.
"Well, everyone try to be back by tonight, okay? I'll be cooking up something special for all our hard work." Brock concluded,
"Awesome!" Ash cheered.
"Can't wait!" Max expressed his anticipation.
"Is he a good cook?" Bonnie wondered, addressing Max with her question.
"One of the best. You'll love it." Max nodded with confidence.
"In that case, thank you, Brock. Definitely looking forward to it." Clemont added.
"My pleasure." Brock acknowledged. Ash, smiling at the group, joined in the positive atmosphere. He was just glad that his near blunder had seemingly been forgotten by everyone now. Well, almost everyone.
