Haru Okumura (P5) 05/12
Haru is happy to be able to take her friends shopping. They're going to be having a Hanami party together, and she's happy to treat them to their personal groceries on the side. After all, buying in bulk is cheaper. There are some things one has to know as the child of a restaurant owner, and where to shop is one of them.
Her friends have never been to this place before, and it shows.
"Haru, surely we will not need ten whole turkey's?" Makoto asks, voice strained for some reason.
"Oh no. This is my personal shopping."
"For real?" Ryuji asks.
"Yes. This is only the beginning of what I plan to buy on my shopping trip today. It's the reason I bought a car."
"Haru, most people don't have the storage space or budget to buy so much food in stock." Makoto explains, her voice still strained.
Haru should probably add some soothing tea for her throat to the cart.
Still, she makes a good point. Not everyone would have the space.
"My grandmother grew up the daughter of a farmer, and could instinctively tell the best cut of meat at a glance. My father learned from her, and I never got that good at it. But I picked up other things from being the daughter of a restaurant owner, and how to shop to get the best bargain on food was one of them. And the best bargain is done in bulk."
"How long does it take you to eat one of these turkeys Haru? Are you eating turkey all month?" Yusuke asks in amazement.
"Ah no, I cut them up, cook them, and freeze them, to be reheated at dinner."
"That's still… a lot… just a lot of turkey, Haru." Makoto sputters.
"Well… I have always wanted to have friends over for dinner. Would you help me eat these turkeys?"
"Truly? You don't mind? Then it would be my pleasure." Yusuke sounds ecstatic.
"Can I bring some back for my mom?" Ryuji asks.
"Of course. And you bring some home for your sister. I should invite everyone over the chat."
It's soon worked out that everyone can come over for dinner next Friday, but in the meantime the Hanami picnic still needs to be made.
Makoto seems much more at ease as she debates with Ryuji over which fillings to put in the onigiri, and Haru smiles fondly. She's looking forward to this year's Hanami festival, and many more like it.
I like dancing Moonlight better than dancing Starlight, but that doesn't mean Starlight has nothing for me. Primarily, it's their social links. And Haru's social link with Yusuke says she does indeed shop like this. I'm not sure if it was originally turkeys in Japanese version, or something more local, but either way I felt it should happen outside of dreams.
