Zayna shifted her weight from foot to foot. She was more nervous than ever. After having placed that call, she was told to come in for a DNA test. She was the kidnapped baby and her father had been arrested while her mother stayed in the hospital since she was too sick to be moved.
Apparently she was the daughter of a famous wrestler called Undertaker. Of course she knew who he was even though she never had the biggest interest in wrestling. Finding out he was her father was an insane feeling. With WWE traveling through her town, she had been asked to come there to meet him.
"Zayna Thomasin?" A woman asked.
Zayna looked over at the worker and nodded.
"This way," the woman said.
Zayna followed the woman into the arena. She tried to keep her eyes down as they walked down the long halls and passed people along the way. The woman finally stopped in front of a door and knocked on it. A few seconds later it opened and Undertaker stood there. Before Zayna knew what was happening, she was pulled into his arms for a tight hug. When he finally broke the hug, the woman had walked away again, and she was alone with this man who was apparently her father.
"Let me see you," he smiled. "You're so beautiful."
"Thank you," she said.
"I never thought this day would come. It's been 34 long years and I had accepted that you might not be alive anymore," he said.
"I am very much breathing," she said.
He let out a laugh and sat down on an arm chair. He gestured to the arm chair next to him and she sat down.
"Do you want a beer or maybe a shot of whiskey? I already had a headstart with two shots since I was so nervous," he said.
"I don't drink," she said.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow. "No one's gonna believe you're my daughter if you don't drink. Have one shot at least."
He filled whiskey in two glasses and handed one of them to her. She took it but didn't drink any. She just held it in her hand while looking at him.
"I don't know what to say. I suppose we both have a lot of questions," he said.
"Who's my mother? And where is she?" She asked.
"She unfortunately died three years after you were kidnapped. Heroin is a cruel mistress," he said sadly.
"Do you miss her?" She asked.
"Not really," he answered truthfully. "We were never a couple. Times were wild in my youth. I got a random hookup pregnant and she came around to tell me when she was 7 months pregnant. She didn't even know herself until that point because she was so far gone in drugs. She was placed in the hospital to keep her clean the last two months and I visited everyday. She had some fun moments. And her smile. She had one hell of a smile which was what attracted me to her that night. I was so happy when you came into the world, and then two days later you were gone. Vanished on a busy morning. I was only 25 years old and my world shattered that day."
She nodded at that information. There wasn't anything she could add to it.
"Did you have a good life?" He asked.
"I did," she answered.
"I suppose that's good. I would hate knowing you were treated like a slave or something," he said.
Someone knocked on the door and he got up from his chair. He opened the door and a beautiful man stood there with a smile on his face.
"Roman!" Undertaker laughed.
"Hunter told me you were here so I wanted to come say hello," Roman looked over at Zayna. "I didn't know you have company. I'm sorry. I'll run along again."
"No, come inside," Undertaker said. "Meet my daughter Cianna."
"Zayna," Zayna said.
"Right, they gave you another name," Undertaker sighed. "I'm sorry, Zayna. It's all so hard for me."
"How do you think I feel?" Zayna said.
"I feel like I shouldn't be here," Roman said.
Undertaker's phone started ringing and he sighed when he looked at the display.
"I need to take this," Undertaker said.
Undertaker stepped out of the room and closed the door after him. Roman sat down on the arm chair and reached a hand forward to Zayna.
"Roman," he said.
"Zayna," she shook her hand. "I don't know if he's told any of you guys anything about me."
"I've never heard of you before," he said.
"I was kidnapped apparently," she said.
"What?" He asked.
"Long story," she said.
"I'd like to hear it," he said.
"Whiskey?" She asked.
She held her glass of whiskey towards him and he shook his head no while chuckling.
"He wouldn't take no for an answer even though I said I don't drink," she said.
"He's always like that. You should have seen how Seth had to stand his ground in the beginning when we were called up to the main roster," he said.
"I'm sorry but I don't know enough about wrestling to know who Seth is," she said. "Or you."
"Break my heart, will you?" He joked. "That's okay, Zayna. Watch the show tonight and see if you like it."
"I'm planning to," she said.
Undertaker opened the door again and stepped inside.
"Sorry, business," Undertaker apologized. "Would you like to join your old man for lunch in catering?"
"Old man?" Zayna asked.
"I am your father," Undertaker said.
"I don't know you," Zayna said.
"That doesn't take away the fact that I'm your father. You'll start calling me dad soon enough," Undertaker said.
Zayna looked at Roman who tried with a little smile. He felt stuck in a conversation he had no right to be part of.
"I need some air," Zayna stood up.
"There's fans outside. I can't go out," Undertaker said.
"But I can and I am," Zayna said.
"I know a place," Roman stood up too. "Let me handle this, Taker. I'll bring her back soon."
"Thanks," Undertaker said.
Roman gestured for Zayna to follow him. He took her up the stairs and opened the door to the roof.
"We won't be bothered up here," he said.
"Thank you," she said.
She closed her eyes for a few seconds and let the wind hit her face. When she opened her eyes again, he was smiling at her.
"I just met him 15 minutes ago," she said.
"He tends to be a bit pushy," he said.
"It's all too much. I just found out the truth about my life and he wants us to move on as if we haven't been apart for 34 years," she said.
"I'll talk to him," he said.
"Now?" She asked.
"If that's what you want me to," he said. "Do you wanna be alone?"
She nodded and felt her cheeks get red. She was way out of line asking him to leave her up there after he went out of his way to bring her to the roof.
"I'll leave you alone then," he said. "Come down when you're ready. Or call me if you need an escort."
"I don't have your number," she said.
"Give me your phone," he said.
She handed her phone to him and he typed in his number before handing it back.
"There," he said. "You got a friend here, Zayna. If you need anything, call me. I'm in your corner. I know this world can be scary and some people will try to push you around. That shit won't fly with me around. Don't hesitate to call no matter what."
"Thank you," she said.
He smiled at her again and then left her alone on the roof. She closed her eyes again and felt the wind on her face. It felt good knowing someone was trying to look out for her even though Roman didn't really know her. He was just a good man trying to help but it meant the world to her to know she had someone to reach out to if it was ever needed.
