You know, most people in life have normal aspirations. Dreams of the perfect job, a wife and kids… Then there are people with fantasy like dreams. Wanting the chance to go into another world and live out a real fantasy.
…
This dream came true for the wrong kind of people.
"Uh… Guys? Where the hell are we?"
"Well Kevin, it looks like we're on a ship."
"Yeah, no shit, jackass!" Kevin replied.
"This ship does kind of look familiar… doesn't it, Levi?"
"Sam, it's obvious where we are." Levi answers. "What I don't get is why we were picked for this." He says, reaching into his shirt and pulling out a gold key.
Levi, Kevin, and Sam were all in their mid 20's. Emphasis on were because at the moment, they all stood at around the age of teenagers. The day before seemed to be about as normal as any other. The three friends were hanging out on a Saturday like they've done almost every week since they got out of high school; Not wanting to drift apart after graduating. Most of the time, they would play Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or Smash Bros… Actually, mostly Kevin and Levi played Smash Bros. since Sam thought the two of them got way too competitive.
The day prior…
"I swear to God, you are such a pain in the ass with Sora!" Kevin shouted in frustration as he was using Dry-Bowser in Smash Bros, repeatedly trying to grab Roxas with his Side-B special… both characters having been modded in through custom firmware.
"First of all, this is Roxas. Second, you're Bowser is annoying as hell too! Quit trying to grab me!" Levi exclaimed, before freezing Dry-Bowser with Roxas' Special attack.
"Oh Bullshit–" Kevin said, before getting cut off as Dry-Bowser was hit by a lighting attack just after unfreezing. "Really?" Kevin exasperated before accidentally pressing Up-B to arial recovery. "I didn't mean to do that!" He exclaimed. But Levi didn't hesitate to knock Kevin's Dry-Bowser off the stage with Roxas' three hit Side-B, getting rid of his last stock. "You're a jackass."
Meanwhile, Sam who was reading fanfiction on his phone, looked up at the two. "Do you guys think you can take a break from Smash now? I wouldn't mind playing Master Duel." Sam says.
"You know, you could join us in Smash." Levi said, looking back at Sam. "I always bring an extra gamecube controller for you to use."
"I already told you a thousand times I don't like facing you both in Smash." Sam huffed.
"You've got us out a few times with Kirby though." Kevin said.
"Yeah with luck!" Sam exclaimed. "Only when you two are so focused on each other and don't even notice me!"
Kevin just sighed a bit. "Alright, we can take a break from Smash."
"Alright, cool." Sam said, getting on his PC and starting up Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel on Steam. "I've been meaning to test out my new Meklord deck on you guys. I think it's been doing pretty good online."
"Alright, then I guess I'm using Dragonmaids." Levi smirked.
"Screw your Dragonmaids!" Sam shouted.
"Branded Despia?" Levi asked.
"No!" Sam shouted again.
"Branded Dragonmaid?" Levi asked, starting to laugh a bit.
"Why? Why do you have to build some of the most annoying decks?" Sam asked.
"How about Branded Blue-Eyes?" Kevin Chuckles.
"I hate both of you." Sam groaned, pinching the temples of his nose. "Seriously, I wish we could just go back to the point where all these effect monsters didn't exist… Could you imagine if Yugi had to face cards like this?"
"He'd probably still find some BS way to win the duel. After all, it's Atem's power that gets him the right card at the right time. That's really all Heart of the Cards was." Levi answered.
"Yeah but come on. That can only get him so far." Kevin says. "It's not like it'll give him a card from the future. There's no way he'd win with a deck like his in today's format."
"That much is obvious." Levi chuckled. "I kinda wish we could go to that world and see Yugi's face facing cards like Dragonmaid."
"Or hell, even the updated Toon cards that we both have." Kevin adds. "...Speaking of Toons~" Kevin smirked, setting up his Toon Deck in Master Duel. "You ready, Sam?"
"Yeah, yeah. Let's just get this over with." Sam huffed.
The three would spend the rest of the day dueling on Master Duel, testing out different decks against each other. Before any of them realized it, the time was already 10PM. "Oh shit, I gotta get going." Kevin says, after seeing the time on his phone. "I told Brittany I'd be home by 9:30."
"Oh jeez." Sam said, turning off the game on his PC. "Yeah you better get going then."
"Maybe next week we can eat at Hibachi Grill? It's been a while since we've gone." Levi asked as he was packing away his Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, cards, and various controllers.
"Yeah, that should be fine. What do you think, Kev?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, I don't mind." Kevin nodded.
Levi looked in his bag, making sure he had everything. "Honestly, I don't know why I even keep bringing my cards when all we do is just duel on Master Duel."
"Honestly, I prefer dueling with real cards too. I brought mine too." Kevin added.
"Yes but let's be honest. There have been so many times when we made mistakes on the effects of what some cards do." Sam answered. "At least on Master Duel, it's easier to understand."
"You mean like when you and Kevin thought Mystical Space Typhoon negated effects?" Levi asked. "Or when you thought the Egyptian God cards couldn't be destroyed by cards like Black Hole or Mirror Force?"
"Yeah, let's not talk about that please." Sam huffed.
As the three were talking, they suddenly heard a crack of thunder outside. "What the hell?" Levi asked, before looking out the window. "Jesus, speaking of typhoons… it's a literal storm out there right now."
"Really?" Sam asked as he looked out the window. "I didn't even notice... Must've just come out of nowhere. I mean, if you guys want, you can just spend the night."
Kevin looked out the window and just sighed. "Yeah, that's probably for the best. I already don't like driving at night. This just makes this even worse for me. I'll just text Brittany and let her know."
"You don't think she'll get upset, do you?" Levi asked.
"I mean, yes and no?" Kevin shrugged. "She'd probably be a bit upset that I'm not going home tonight, but at the same time, she'd probably get it. With this weather and how late it is, it's probably safer for me to just stay here."
"Alright then, guess we'll be taking the couch." Levi says, going to head to the living room. "Coming, Kevin?"
"I think I'll sleep on the couch in the basement." Kevin answered.
"What about the cats that go down there?" Levi asked.
"That'll be anywhere we sleep." Kevin deadpanned. "I don't know, I just think the couch downstairs is more comfortable."
"Well if you say so." Levi shrugged, heading to the living room. "Night guys!"
"Night!" Both Kevin and Sam responded.
With that, Levi, Kevin, and Sam all retired for the night. With Sam sleeping in his bedroom, Kevin sleeping on the couch in the basement, and Levi sleeping on the couch in the living room.
…
…
"Ugh… huh?" Levi groaned, sitting up from his sleep, immediately going wide-eyed as he was no longer sleeping on the couch, but was now laying in a dark unfamiliar location, far from anything he had seen back home; Seeing Anubis statues, and pillars covered in hieroglyphs. ". . . This is not my bedroom!" Levi shouted quickly getting to his feet with panic on his face. "What the heck kind of dream is this!?"
"How peculiar…" Levi heard a voice. Snapping his attention to who spoke, his eyes could only widen further as he saw a familiar figure had appeared before him. A Dark skinned man wearing white desert robes staring at him. What was most notable however was the golden Ank hanging around his neck as he wore an impassive expression. "The entrance to these chambers have not been disturbed, yet you are here…"
(Okay, this is a pretty interesting dream so far… I think we played way too much Yu-Gi-Oh last night…) "Look, I'm not really sure how I got here. Honestly, I literally just woke up here."
The man looks at Levi; his expression not changing as he holds up a golden pair of scales for a moment. One side seems to tip as he does. "...You speak the truth, but you have been brought here for a reason."
"What? What reason could I have possibly been sent here?" Levi asked with a sweat drop.
"We shall see." The man answered cryptically before stepping up to Levi. As he does, he holds out the Golden Ank to his forehead, and twists it like a key… Causing Levi's vision to go white.
As the light from his vision fades, Levi was left regaining his composure, the man that stood before him was now gone from sight. "Huh? What?" Levi let out in confusion.
"How peculiar; a being from a completely different time has entered these chambers… You have been chosen." His voice seemed to echo from nowhere as his gaze drifted towards a large stone slab in the ground, with 6 missing gaps in its form… The only item seemingly in place is the very same Golden Ank he saw the man carrying.
"Wait what? But this Ank belongs to…" Levi said, going to pick up the Millennium Ank the man was carrying from the stone slab. As he picked up the Ank however, he felt something strange going through his body… a dark magic. Something he never even fathomed was real… real… real… "This feels way too real to be a dream!" He finally exclaimed. As he did, a dark aura enshrouded him, his vision going hazy again…
…
…
A loud horn was suddenly heard… That was enough to wake Levi from his slumber and strange dream. "Huh…?" Levi let out groaning as he sat up. "I don't remember setting any kind of alarm." As he stood up and started to get a look at his surroundings however, once again he saw that he wasn't in his bedroom or even on the couch at his friend's house… He was laying on a metal surface. "What?... First Egypt, now this?" He blinked a moment and quickly looked at his own chest, seeing the Millennium Ank hanging around his neck. "Wait, why do I actually have this!?"
"Jeez dude, what time is it?" Levi suddenly heard a familiar voice.
Levi quickly turned around and immediately went wide eyed again. Only this time when he saw his friends were here as well. And not only that, but de-aged back down to teenagers. "K-Kevin? Sam!?"
"Levi?" Sam asked first as he sat up next. "Wait huh? When did–!?" Sam exclaimed, looking around. "Wasn't I just in my bedroom!? Where are we?"
"Wha?" Kevin quickly sat up as well before getting to his feet. As he looked around, his gaze first paused on Sam. "...Why are you smaller?"
"Kev, you got smaller too. So did Levi and–... Wait, what the heck is that hanging around his neck!?" Sam exclaimed, looking at the Ank dangling on Levi's neck.
"Is that–... Is that a gold key!?" Kevin exclaimed.
"It's the millennium key, actually…" Levi answered.
"What!?" Sam exclaimed.
"How!?" Kevin added.
"E-Easy, this is all a surprise to me too! All I know is that after we all went to sleep, I had a weird dream… or at least what I thought was a dream…" Levi said before taking a deep breath. The three of them all sat back down so Levi could explain what happened to him. He explained that he basically woke up in the tomb where all the other millennium items were supposedly kept and how Shadi said that Levi was chosen to wield the millennium key. As he went on to explain, the two friends both held expressions of shock and confusion.
Soon though, Kevin was the one to speak up first. "What the hell. Why do you get to have a millennium item?"
"Well let's be honest, Kev. Do you think Shadi would trust either of us with one?" Sam asked. "I think out of the three of us, Levi's probably the most sane one."
"Well even that's kind of a stretch, but thanks Sam." Levi chuckled a bit before the three of them stood up and looked around, seeing that their bags with their belongings had made it too. "Guess we have some of our stuff too at least…" Levi said, picking up his bag of belongings. Kevin and Sam did the same. "Come on, let's get a better look at where we ended up." he says, hiding the key in his shirt before leading the group. As they walked, they saw that they were actually on a ship… one that had docked most recently judging from the horn that sounded earlier.
"Uh… Guys? Where the hell are we?" Kevin asked.
"Well Kevin, it looks like we're on a ship." Levi answered.
"Yeah, no shit, jackass!" Kevin replied.
"This ship does kind of look familiar… doesn't it, Levi?" Sam asked, taking a look around.
"Sam, it's obvious where we are." Levi answers. "What I don't get is why we were picked for this." He says, reaching into his shirt and pulling out a gold key. As he did, the three of them stopped at one of the guard rails on the ship, seeing more kids, mostly teenagers walking onto the ship. However, one kid stood out the most. A boy in a blue school uniform, with red, black, and blonde spikey hair. And around his neck was what looked like an upside down pyramid. "That's… That's Yugi." Levi let out, wide-eyed.
Hey guys, I know this is out of the blue, but this was just another story I decided to make for fun. Just a silly idea me and a friend had while we were hanging out. Hope you enjoy this one too!
