Daisuke Todoroki (P2) 15/11
Being a Detective is neither a safe nor sane job. But particularly not in Sumaru City, which was pretty crazy even before Demons and rumors became a prominent feature.
The city has always had weird rules. Part historical, part Mafia, with the rest being filled in by the rampant political corruption that makes the legal system a wild beast, and those who work within it some flavor of lunatic.
Of course, Daisuke is probably in no position to judge them, given he himself is only alive because he made a pact with a ghost while dying. The ghost even rudely refers to him as the former inhabitant of this body.
Said ghost is a better detective than he was any day of his life, Daisuke is not ashamed to admit it. Daisuke is a lot more personable than the ghost, while the ghost is better at fighting and negotiating with Demons. It makes for an interesting balance when they train the ghost's student Tamaki, and to a lesser extent Tadashi. The ghost doesn't think Tadashi is going to hack it on the field. Daisuke is holding out hope for him.
After all, he wasn't the best of detectives, but he still had successfully made it as a detective after he lost his old job and decided self employment was the only thing he could live with even if money was tight afterwards. It's hard and involves both putting up with long hours and Sumaru insanity, but he was happier with himself. And it's not like he had really wanted a wife and kids, and as a struggling detective he's not expected as much to have them.
As for legacy, he sort of has Tamaki and Tadashi, even with all the ways he also really doesn't.
It's fine. Not everyone has to be memorable. Its enough to be living, a perspective helped by the brush with the kiss from death.
Being alive. It's not something Daisuke will take for granted again. Even if it comes with an extra passenger now, every breath is worth it.
His musings are interrupted as Eriko Kirishima walks into his agency.
Eriko Kirishima has made herself legendary through the rumors.
They both stare at each other for a moment. Then she asks him to spread a rumor for her.
"What rumor do you need spreading?"
She puts down a lot of money before she tells him.
"I need you to spread the rumor that My friends are going to come flying to aid our city when the hour of attack is upon us."
That makes the ghost jolt into attention.
"And our city will be needing this aid soon?" He asks.
A grave look crosses her face.
"From the rumors I have heard, yes. We will need all the aid we can get."
She walks out into the city, presumably to spread the rumors further.
He sends out Tamaki and Tadashi to go spread the latest rumor (probably through arguing), while the ghost thinks through things too fast for Daisuke to follow. The In Lak'ech- which everyone is talking about- features prominently.
Daisuke isn't really sure why the ghost is thinking about that. That was full of bullshit. But bullshit or not, they have a copy, and the ghost is speedreading through it.
"Enough people believe it" he whispers.
Then control of his body is forcibly taken from him, as the ghost pilots him to the phone.
He calls a number.
"Marie" He demands when somebody picks up. "Get me Rei."
He waits a moment.
"Get every Kuzunoha, summoner or not, to come down to Sumaru's Kuzunoha detective agency. Bring my successor, and even that Kumiko girl if she's easily available. And tell any other summoner you can think of to come here too. It looks like an all hands on deck situation."
"Kyouji! What the hell is going on!" the voice on the other end, presumably Rei, demands. "I'm your partner, not your secretary."
"Get here fast too. The faster the better. I don't care if you have to drive through the night. You can yell at me when you get here. Tell everyone else to come fast too. Goodbye."
And then he slams the phone.
"So you are Kyouji?" Daisuke asks the ghost.
"Yes and no. It's an inherited title, and I'm dead.
They walk outside and see Eriko Kirishima telling a group of children about her latest rumor.
Interesting strategy. It will probably produce some strange results.
He doesn't have much time to think about it, as the Kuzunoha's start dropping by the detective agency.
Most of them are content to go into the city and fight devils after dropping in.
Rei Reiho gives them a verbal dressing down and storms off.
The successor and Kumiko follow after her. A Hitomi Tono also shows up with some of her friends before going off to check out an archaeological dig site.
"Let Rei calm down. She still wants her explanation."
Sure enough, she comes back.
"Kyouji what is going on?"
"The Last Nazi Battalion from Antarctica are going to invade."
"The WHAT!"
"Also, this city was built on top of a giant spaceship."
"KYOUJI! Say something that makes sense please!"
Daisuke decides to not let him anger her further.
"This is Sumaru City, where rumors come true. Go spread some rumors with someone else, and test them as much as you need."
Her eyes narrow. But the sound of bombs drowns out everything coming from her mouth next.
They go outside to see old airplanes with Nazi symbols flying into town in droves. The soldier's are flying too.
The air is full of screaming, and bombs going off.
Demons join the fray, as COMPS are activated. Gunshots ring out from the guns of summoners. Everyone is scrambling for weapons.
In this chaos a car comes flying through the air alongside the screaming of the passengers.
It lands, and the passengers roll out, some start shooting.
These must be Eriko's friends.
