They spent the rest of the day in the room. They watched French and Canadian short films posted online, which seemed to be never-ending in supply. When they ran out of interest, and interesting stories to tell, the night had come right on time. It was time for sleep.

It's a need.
I know.

After a while Ball was comfortable, and her thoughts began to scramble, but something was keeping her from fully going to sleep.
David was cold, and deeply uncomfortable. He was the one keeping her awake. Ball's body was void of a heartbeat, or body temperature. Because of this David felt like he was sick, and that it wasn't safe to sleep.

It's so quiet, too still. I can't sleep. I'm too cold. David cried.
W h at wi ll
What will what?
What… will satisfy your…

Ball was so tried her thoughts were trailing off.

My? My what
Zzz… ! Oh… your sleeping… needs?
I'm cold, I, I feel cold.
Hmmt!

Ball popped up out of her sleeping position. She then rolled out of bed and approached her backpack. Right next the the pack was her heating blanket.

A fitting solution.
Yayyy.

Ball kicked the blanket on top of her, and hopped back to the bed. She flopped of her back and pressed the on button with her foot. In the back of her mind she could already feel David's soul start to relax. She too, got back to being sleepy.

A few minutes later they both started to dream the same dream. Up high in the mountains they became a lonely monster who did not think in words.

The mountain was hollowed out by yoyle High. There, the monster was protected from the outside world. Outside the mountain it was cold, and blasting with winds hard and sharp. It howled like death, so the monster rarely went outside. It stalked the halls huffing for a scent of its prey. Every once in a while it heard a step, or a clatter of a fallen thing off a desk. It would freeze and delicately stare. Think without words

Is anybody there?

Years of the winds and being followed... by someone, but where would they come from? They knew never of what they heard.

It's just paranoia nobody has entered.

The monster's claws were crafted for the kill, but they could do many other things as well. They built nests of cloth where no others dared roam. Clawed familiar shapes into the marble. Events to relive.

Did someone other than me carve this??? Who's there??

Day in and day out it paced empty classrooms with things that now had no use. All paper and pens were, was things of the environment. They were curious, but didn't know or care what, or who.

The wind one day opened up and blasted the inside of the school. They went over to investigate.

The front door was open.

Just the wind. As always.

They picked up their arms and stood up on 2 legs. They gripped the door with their claws and pulled it shut.

The door on the other claw, didn't close. It instead swung back open and barked its big slamming sound. Still standing on its hind legs the creature stood stiff. They silently looked behind them and across, but nobody had come rushing over to investigate the sound. It couldn't be helped. Today the monster was just going to have to leave it alone.
They did not dare get too close to the door for the rest of the day. It's constant unpredictable sound drew too much attention. The closer it was to the door, the closer it felt to danger.

The next day the monster continued on with its daily activity. When it came time to rush past the door, they saw something. Something red.

Worried that they were just seeing things, they looked back but the red was still there. Suddenly, it started to chase them. It jumped from one place to the next without moving a muscle. The monster scampered away, but the school was starting to flood. They tripped on a corpse of some girl just laying in the hall, and then the red caught them by the neck and pushed them into the wall. They were choking, and flailing their claws all over the place just to try and fight back. They were too frightened, and foaming at the mouth. They swore they were turning purple.

*!*

"AH!" Ball kicked awake. And began to heave breaths in and out. She stared at the ceiling along with David.

"It was… a dream," David said aloud. He was painting too.

"That was horrible!" Ball huffed.

"Just try and calm down," David said, "What time is it?"

Ball stood up and went over to the computer. She moved the mouse and looked at the screen.

"It is 5:34 am," she wheezed. The light burned her eyes in the dark, "I get up at 6,"

"Do you want to go back to sleep or just stay up till then?" David asked.

"Heh heh!" Ball genuinely chuckled.

"..What?" David asked. This seemed random.

"It sounds like I am talking to myself!" Ball said, "Uh -psh! how about we just relax until Johnson tells us to get up,"

"Do whatever. I'm not that tired anymore," David said. Ball smiled again almost letting out another laugh.

"Whaat? Is it really that funny with me talking in your voice?" David asked playfully. Ball started to chuckle again, "I can make you say anything y'know. I can make you say Asparagus! I can make you say Tortellini! I can hahahahahahah!" It was a little difficult for both of them to chuckle and talk at the same time.

Ball just kept on laughing, and David joined in, but you couldn't hear a difference. The door to the room was pushed open.

"AH!" David screamed. It was Johnson, he was brushing his teeth.

"Why are you awake Ball? And, laughing? I've never heard you laugh before," Johnson asked drowsily. David started fearfully.

I'll take care of it, relax.

"I had a nightmare. I was just laughing about how silly it was," Ball said. Johnson put his toothbrush in his mouth and took out his notepad.

"Wat wus et about?" He asked with his mouth full.

"It was just about some terrifying dancing pasta," David said.

"... Okay," Johnson wrote it down, "It's almost time to get up, so get ready," He said leaving the door open.

You ok?
Yeah, he just totally caught me by surprise. Still sweating off that nightmare.
It still unsettles me too. It felt like was like that for years.
Dreams can do that to you. Make you feel like you've lived in another life.
I do not think I like dreams.

Ball went over to the lamp in her room and turned it on with her foot.

Well dreams are really strange. You aren't going to like all of them, but some are fantastic.
You have had fantastic dreams?
Yeah. Like one time I had a dream that I could read minds, and I solved a mystery. I forget what the mystery was about though. I did have another dream where I figured out the secret to flying without an airplane, but nobody believed me so I flew around Yoyleland alone.
You seem into super powers.
Nah. I mean it's cool, but it's just a coincidence that I dreamed about those things. If you had a super power what would it be?
Oh...hmm. Flight is cool, but it is not me. What do you mean exactly by a super power?
Something you wish you could do that can't really happen but, would be cool if you could do it.

Ball walked on the floor, past the painting, and over to her book bag. She looked inside it to see if she had everything.

Hmm. I wish I could disappear if I needed to. Then if I was in trouble I would not be confronted as easily.
Good choice. I can totally see you using that effectively. Too bad school has to be the way it is.

Ball walked away from her backpack and out of her room.

Uh, Where are we going?
I'm going to brush my teeth and rinse my feet.
Why?
Cleanliness.
I know, but why brush your teeth if you never eat?
...Schedule.

Ball pushed open a public bathroom's door. David tried closing her eyes.

Stop! What are you doing?
Sorry. This is the women's room so I'm not supposed to look, or be in here.
The only thing you will be looking at is me. There's nobody in here this early. Just let me see.
Ok.

Ball opened her eyes and approached a step ladder that led to a sink. She climbed it, and then stood on the edge of the sink. Already placed there for her was a toothbrush and a little hand towel. She turned on the facet and one at a time put a foot under the water. After that she started to put toothpaste on her toothbrush.

Do you think that the other David will take you back?
Hmmm yeah.
Hehe.
Hehe. If he doesn't I won't be mad, but I also want to be myself again.
Hopefully today we can put this whole situation behind us.
Yeah, it was nice spending time with you though. I'll miss you during school.
Me too. Do you think I should get myself a cell phone?
Mmm if ya want one. They're really cool, but mostly for people with... hands. There is another way to talk to me away from home though.
What is it?
Email. If you have an email address I can send you emails using the computer.
Sounds like a plan.

Ball spit into the sink. She was done brushing her teeth.

Now what do we do?
Wait for Johnson to finish getting ready. We can go back to the room and just put my backpack on.
Ok.

And they did just that. At around 7am they were waiting outside for the other David.

Let us talk to ourselves the entire walk.

Yeees. But what about?
Umm, we will think of something.

The other David arrived as he always did.
"Heya Ball. Ready?" He asked wearing his sweater.
"No," David joked using Ball's voice.
"W-what do you need?" The joke caught the other David off guard.

"Nothing, it is just a joke," Ball said. She tapped him on the leg and walked forward into the sidewalk. The other David was confused, but followed along.
"What have you been up to? We want to know," Ball said.
"I've just been trying to sleep last the night without my soul. I believe you, and I'm sorry I did that to you… my soul?" The other David said.
"It's ok. Just as long as you take me back today," David said.

"You're not mad?" the other David asked.
"I'm, actually in euphoria," David said.
"It was sort of like a sleepover," Ball explained.

The other David looked at her, before turning his gaze over to the road.

"I've never had one of those before…" He breathed.
"I know right! Oh! When do you think you can take me back?" David asked.
"When we get to school. I think it'll be quick, if not then we can just ask Diggs about what to do later," David said.

"Sounds reasonable," Ball said.
