The rest of November was chilled, and all they could do was wait.
"All of a sudden It seems to be snowing every day. At least a little," Ball had said over a call on her computer.
"Don't expect school to be out anytime too. The government knows how to deal with snow," David said. He coughed a little, "You talking about winter for the first time makes me feel weird,"
"Why?" Ball asked.
"You're still not even one year old. And I'm 17!" Eavid shouted.
"Considering a human at this age would not even be able to talk, I suppose you could find it strange," Ball said.
"I forget, Rocky can talk right?"
"Yep. Although he does cease to, most of the time," Ball said.
"You think that Rocky might be like, a kid version of you?"
"Eh.. I talked much more often than Rocky ever did, even right after I came to life. Maybe that is just how he is," Ball said.
"Yeah Maybe… You ever wonder about bringing other objects to life?" David paused.
"I have not recently. And, I probably will not bring another to life until I know I can find them a proper home. You won't always know if an object and their person would get along. Especially if I bring them to life without the person's consent. It might have to live here! Of course that does not make it out of the picture for an idea,"
"... Ok," David sighed like he was getting into something he wasn't ready for.
For the next few weeks they waited for news to strike. The 2 had shaken dreams of waking up to the return of the prisms. The plan had already been laid out.
Ball would ask to return the keycard and observe experiments. It was simple, but could easily fail. Most of the plan was improvising, and Ball wouldn't have anyone to help her. It was just going to be her, Craeggs, and the aliens, hopefully...
During lunch Ball and Oscar sat across from each other, while David sat next to Ball. Since Ball didn't eat during this time, she had a book open and ready to read if there was an awkward pause. Rocky sat on the table's surface next to Oscar.
"So, are you guys going to do something about the aliens?" Oscar asked.
"What aliens?" David's eyes widened.
"..I donno," Oscar looked behind him to a window, and then looked back in an awkward double take.
"What do you know Oscar?" Ball asked bluntly.
"Something, bad…" Oscar said, "Ohhh!" He looked at a smudged message he wrote on his hand in frustration. It was impossible to read now.
"You are acting really strange Oscar," Ball said.
"I'm sorry guys. I was gonna say somethin but It's finally slipped my mind," Oscar said.
"You said something about the aliens Oscar. Was it something about that?" Ball asked.
"Probably," Oscar said.
"What do you mean, probably?" David started, "You straight out just asked us about the aliens!"
Oscar tapped his pointer fingers together.
"Well, Johnson told me all about his alien stuff. He kinda ranted it to me," Oscar said.
David sighed and held the bridge of his nose.
Ball looked outside the window that Oscar had briefly glanced at. She almost stopped when she saw it: the snow was being spotted by someone's many invisible feet.
"David," she said stiff, "I think we might have a problem."
"..What, like.. what type of problem?" David stopped again.
"David!" She leaned in to whisper, "The aliens are HERE!"
"Oh why. Ok, I'll text Johnson to see if he knows what's going on," David took out his phone.
"What? What's happening?" Oscar asked them.
"I'm not saying anything unless you're ok with it Ball," David said while looking at his phone.
"Ok, I will tell you-" Ball saw Josie in the corner of her eye, "Later. Now is not a good time,"
"Oh Ball I can take it. I won't tell, honest!" Oscar said.
"It's not you. Something else. I trust you," Ball said bluntly. This made Oscar smile anyway.
"I'll wait for later then.." Oscar sighed.
David looked away from his phone.
"Johnson says that they didn't tell him anything about this. He's coming over," He took a quick breath, and put his phone down.
"Hmm! We should skip class today to try and find them," Ball closed her eyes for a moment.
Josie swaggered over.
"Find who?" She asked.
"The limit to your idiocracy," David snapped.
"Maybe you haven't found it yet because I'm not an idiot," Josie snapped back.
"Even if you had real evidence it doesn't give you the right to bug us- Now if you would exscUSE ME I AM TRYING TO HAVE A NORMAL CONVERSATION WITH MY FRIENDS," David attempted to be loud to keep Josie from talking. She bothered them so often.
Ball noticed that Oscar wouldn't look at Josie. He did so almost as if he was holding his breath.
Is he.. sweating?
"You guys all have something to hide," Josie kept talking anyway.
"Oh my, G O S H!" David groaned.
"Rumours... David fainting on the stairwell with Ball,"
"Shut, U P!" David wiped his head around.
"Ball coming back from the dead, my sister not remembering a single thing at your party Oscar. Well I wouldn't put it past you to do drugs!" She chuckled with her right hand over her mouth.
"Oscar doesn't do drugs," David said.
"Then tell me a better reason for everybody not remembering anything at Oscar's party," She raised a brow.
David hesitated.
"It really isn't any of your business so please get out of here!" David said.
"Well actually it is my business because everyone in this school is threatened by your shenanigans," Josie pointed to them, "If you were innocent than you wouldn't be so secretive but you know that I'm right and it frustrates me to all ends!"
Ball went over to Oscar.
"You ok?" She whispered.
"Oh, uh. I'm just a little anxious," He tried to reassure her.
"What is the matter," Ball asked lightly.
"Is it about your party Oscar? Is it?" Joise butted in.
David stood up facing Josie.
"GET THE !$% OUT!" He screeched while pointing away. His face was red. Others in the cafeteria stopped, but not all.
"W-what did you say?!" Josie was intimidated, but her curiosity kicked in more than her flight.
"GO, away!" David said between his teeth. His hands were starting to conduct.
From behind him Oscar gently held him back.
"Let's not get brash," He whispered.
David took a deep breath, and sat back down. He put both his fists on the table and hung his head low. Josie walked off into the hall. Her eyes on David the whole time. She laughed when she was out of sight.
"David, calm yourself. You might create more of a drama," Ball said.
"I know. I'm, I'm sorry," David lifted his head and relaxed. He sighed, "I'm done with lunch. You wanna go find, the aliens?" He whispered just loud enough for Oscar to hear.
Oscar sat up straight. He looked over to Rocky.
"We're going to find the aliens Rocky," Oscar told the sleeping stone.
"I thought you were an alien Oscar," Rocky squeaked.
"Why would you think that?" Oscar chuckled.
"Halloween makes you strange. Doesn't alien mean strange?" Rocky asked.
"It does mean strange! But I'm just a normal human. I'm not from outer-space, I'm from my parents!" Oscar pointed to himself.
"Most of the time.." Rocky closed his eyes.
"Uh, ok let's find those!" Oscar went to a whisper, "aliens,"
The 3 got up, but Ball was already standing.
"Should we leave our stuff?" She asked.
"Yeah, well actually let's just place it around the wall so next period doesn't have to move them," David said. He stretched before picking up his bag, and then Ball's bag.
"I can carry my own bag to the wall," Ball said assertively.
"Oh, I know. I just did it so you don't have to," David shrugged.
"Hmm. Very kind," She said like it was more of an analysis than a compliment. She jumped off the table.
"Stay here Rocky. Aliens are dangerous," Oscar said to the stone. He put Rocky next to a window for him to look out of.
"Ok," Rocky said. A bird landed outside the window.
The 3 began to move from the cafeteria to the hallway.
Oscar bumped David with his elbow.
"She said you were 'very kind'!" He whispered while making a silly smile.
"What?" David glanced at him.
"She said you were-"
"Where would you assume the AL could be heading for?" Ball cut them off without even knowing.
"The al?" David didn't understand.
"It's short for what we are looking for.. in this mission. Whispering will waste more time at this point, so we will call them, the Al," Ball explained.
"Ok. Um, I would ask Nelly where the AL might be hiding but she's not here today," David took a tennis ball out and began to bounce it. Bop.
"She hasn't been in school for 3 days already!" Oscar said. Bop.
"You think she might be sick?" David wondered. Bop.
"Personally.. yes," Oscar said. Bop.
"I've been feeling a little under the weather too," David said. Bop.
"Under.. weather…?" Ball didn't under- Bop.
"He means he's getting sick," Oscar explained. Bop.
"Does not sick sometimes mean die!?" Ball reca- Bop.
"I'll be fine," Bop. Bop. Bop. BBB-op. Bop. David.
"As long as," Bop. "you say it to be," Bop. "true.." Ball said.
Bop.
"Nice drib" Bop, "bling David." Bop " I can't do it for that long," Oscar said. Bop.
"Uh, thanks," David took the complement, and caught his tennis ball. He put it away.
Oscar noticed something.
"Oscar do you have Nelly's number?" David asked him.
Oscar shook his head.
"Looks like we are at a loss in terms of extra access and severance," Ball said, "Unless we can get in contact with one of her club members,"
Johnson came walking from the entrance.
"What's going on?" He asked. He was walking as quick as he could without running.
"I saw the prisms outside the school. They are invisible," Ball said, "I saw their footprints appearing in the snow outside," Ball said.
"If the prisms came here themselves than we have to assume they are after a student or the student body," Johnson said to the group.
"Should not we assume that the prisms are after anything else in the school?" Ball suggested.
"We have to assume to worst and act accordingly," Johnson walked over to a fire alarm.
"What are you doing?" David asked him.
"The best way to get everyone out of the building is to pull this alarm," Johnson said.
Josie had been watching them. With a hall pass in hand, she stopped.
"Oh wo-ooow. Why are you pulling the fire alarm Drake Johnson?" she asked with a smirk.
"Because there is a fire. No more questions. I'm busy," Johnson said.
"You said something is in the school!" Josie pointed, but she stood stiff.
"The only thing that's in the school is fire!" Johnson pulled the alarm. It blared, and students popped up to escape.
Josie stood a little taller.
"I'm not leaving. I AM right! You are up to something terrible! Each and every one of you!" She screeched.
The crowd started to fill the hall around her.
"Drake Johnson!?" A head from the crowd popped up. It was Beta coming from another intersectioning hall.
"Who?" Mila Archer popped her head up too.
"Shut up Mila you don't even know," Somebody else joked.
Josie popped her head up to spot her twin.
"I'll be right out Beta! I'm staying here!" Joise shouted.
"OK!" Beta was being pushed out by the crowd anyway.
Josie watched Beta exit the building. She then began to shout.
"EVERYONE! STOP EVACUATING, listen!" She pointed to Johnson, David, Ball, and Oscar, "Ball and her friends are RESPONSIBLE! FOR PULLING THE FIRE ALARM!" People began to turn and listen.
"They are trying to hide something that is in the school, and t-t-they want us out so they can have the school to themselves! They can do whatever they want just because they can make us forget it!
I was tricked by them into coming here at night once and I came back home with my shoulder nearly broken! I didn't even know what happened! And Tiffany has an implant in her skin that very same night!" Josie pointed to her own arm remembering the tattoo.
Ball began to walk up to her, with a stern expression.
"Do you have something to say!? Are you going to deny it!? Drown out my evidence with your 'none of my business' act!" Josie roared.
Ball continued towards her.
"I DARE YOU! TO DENY A SINGLE GRAIN! OF WHAT I'M SAYING. YOU ARE GUILTY, YOU KNOW YOU ARE!"
"I am STRANGE!" Ball started.
"Tell me something I don't know!" Josie rolled her eyes.
"I am am a student, an earthling, and a person JUST LIKE YOU! Like you all... JOSIE YOU HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. I. AM. STRANGE. AND STRANGE THINGS, THAT YOU FEAR, HAPPEN TO ME!" Ball roared.
"THEN TELL ME WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON! IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DENY YOUR TERRIBLE TRUTH AT LEAST GIVE US SOME, AH, THan- oww!" Josie suddenly lost her tense nature. Behind her students started to jump over each other in panic. They screamed trying to just break through to the nearby exit. Some though, stayed right by the door to stare.
Ball was right in the moment, and now she was at a loss. She wasn't running, she wasn't speaking. The whole world felt so sluggish.
Ball looked behind Josie. A stack of prisms stood visible, with the top prism holding a smoking red laser rifle.
Josie held her chest in shock, and turned around. She screeched and jumped back.
Ball could see it.
On Josie's back was a burn, and it was spreading. It went from glowing red to ash like a volcanic ooze. Josie turned back to look at Ball.
"No! Nononono!" Josie sobbed suddenly. "I- You can't Ah, They know noW wwwwhat, who you think you are! What you can Do!" She tried to find something to say," YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THE END OF THIS DO YOU HEAR AH! ME! I'll I'll I, I! AHHHHHH OW! NONONONO!" All she could say now were screams.
Ball stood stiff, shocked beyond words.
Josie pushed the remaining people out of the way as she tried to get past the door.
"BETA!" She screamed out of the doorway, but her strength had failed her. She fell on her back. Other people tried to pick her up, but her arms turned to dust.
"Josie?" Beta could be heard faintly outside.
Josie on her back completely petrified into a reddish burn of dust. Her face went last, with a horrific visage of dread.
"JOSIE?!" Beta couldn't even reach the door. There was too many people moving out.
"No! No!" Beta cried at the sudden news that Josie was dead. Students told her on their way out. She was too late.
Instead of standing in an 'easy to shoot at' line, the entire student body ran for the suburbs. All except for Johnson, David, Ball, and Oscar. Oscar couldn't look at anyone. David stood still. Ball laid on her side where she was standing and just thought to herself. The aliens had vanished yet again, and somehow she didn't even notice.
Johnson walked up to her.
"We should really get out of here," He said while crouching to her level.
Ball rolled over slightly so her face was facing Johnson.
"I do not want to go to this school anymore," Ball said.
"And you won't. We are in an entire planet of trouble now," Johnson made a circle shape with his fingers.
"Why did they do that?.. Right in front of everyone?" Ball moped.
"That's, what I'm going to yell at them about," He combed his hand through his hair in stress. Johnson stood back up.
"Come on, let's go,"
Ball flipped herself up on her feet.
