Over the next month Graham kept trying to get a hold of Ryan; he left the country the day following Ace and Graham's engagement on a special assignment for Kate and UNIT. "Ryan, it's me again. I need to ask you something. It's important." Graham sighs after hanging up the phone and getting his freshly dry cleaned suit out of the car. Once he looks up he sees Ryan. "Ryan."
"Is the wedding soon or something," Ryan points to the bag.
"No, tonight I am Ace's date for a Gala."
"The suit?"
"It's a suit and tie type Gala. We are going to announce to the public that we are getting married."
"Ok?"
"Do you want to come inside Ryan, I do have a question to ask you."
"Sure," Graham heads up to the door to unlock the door, once inside Graham goes to hang up the suit before coming back down.
"Can I ask you an important question?" Graham sits down next to Ryan.
"Yeah."
"Ace and I have decided who we want to stand up with us when we get married. We still have to ask them. I am asking you to stand up for me as my best man."
"I will."
"Thank you."
"You don't need to thank me. Who is Ace asking?"
"Tegan. Speaking about them, Tegan is swinging by in an hour and we are meeting Nyssa and Ace at the Gala."
"I just wanted to come by. Kate is keeping me here for the foreseeable future."
"I'm glad, I want you to get to know Ace more."
"I feel like I already know her. We have met a number of times and how you gushed about her until you finally took the plunge."
"I wanted to make sure you were ok with it."
"With what?"
"The fact I was falling for someone."
"I know when I met you; I wasn't accepting, but I have grown up."
"I know."
"I am going to head out to let you get ready."
"Thank you Ryan for dropping by." After Ryan leaves Graham goes up to take a shower. 'I think I need a shave,' he says to himself.
Meanwhile at A Charitable Earth, "Ace we should get ready," Nyssa comes into Ace's office, "I have your dress that matches your ring and his eyes, how you did that; I will never know."
"Thank you." Ace closes her laptop and follows Nyssa out. "Did you have anything like this on Tremunis?"
"No, but on Traken I did. The last one was when I met the Doctor and Adric; before the Master killed everyone and stole my father's face."
"I know it's not the same, but you have a family."
"I know, Neeka, Adric, Tegan and John Nathan."
"Graham, Ryan and I too. Tegan is like my sister. You are becoming one too."
"Really?"
"Yes, really. I don't just trust no one with my baby."
"Have any news," Nyssa teases.
"This place is the only baby I will ever have. I am happy being an aunt. The other ship has sailed."
"If my two weren't fully grown, you would be godmother."
"Thank you. Now let's finish getting ready." Hours later they arrive together to find two people waiting for them, one of them is wearing a skirt. "In the years I have known Tegan, I have never seen her wear a skirt."
"Really, she wore dresses and skirts when we traveled together, granted minus first getting out of the shower; she hasn't seen my hair styles like this." Nyssa plays with her ringlets.
"Well, Graham has never seen me in a dress, I don't even have one in my closet." Once they get out Ace watches Graham's eyes light up and they move toward them. "How do I look?"
"Beautiful as always," he kisses her cheek as Tegan runs her fingers through Nyssa's hair.
"You haven't styled it like this since you left the TARDIS."
"I know, I wanted to surprise you, is it ok," Nyssa asks Tegan, searching her eyes.
"I love everything you do Nyssa." They share a small kiss and a smile, the two couples walk in together, Ace has her arm in Graham's making sure her ring is showing.
"Nyssa and I have to go talk to some people, want to come," Ace asks Graham.
"I will get us something to drink," he kisses her cheek making her smile. Tegan goes off with him.
"So when is the wedding?"
"We are trying to get a few things taken care of before we set a date."
"Like?"
"Has she asked you anything lately?"
"No," Tegan gets two glasses of white wine while Graham gets two whisky sours. They make their way back to their partners, stopping to watch them for a second. "They are great at this, aren't they?"
"She's great at everything," Graham says, watching Ace try and win over a donor. He walks up to her, handing her her drink.
"Thank you," she takes her drink in one hand and the other she wraps around Graham. The man with sleek black hair that Ace was talking to notices this.
"I see something has changed Ms. McShane, you know this man?"
"Andrew, this is my fiancé Graham O'Brien."
"I see, and how did you meet, and where have you been hiding him?"
"A friend set us up."
"Have we met this friend?"
"They're illusive to most people, I met this friend a few years ago when my wife died." Andrew looks between the two.
"It's good that McShane here has someone willing to be her plus one."
"For this and every event in the future, what do you say, a forever date?"
"I already said yes to that Graham." She smiles at him, trying to hide the fact she likes having a date now for these functions, someone to make sure she gets something to drink while she talks to others and tries to get them to donate money. Hours later Ace and Graham arrive home.
"You were wonderful tonight Graham. Absolutely wonderful. How did you know that one guy?"
"We were both bus drivers, I guess he won the lottery and didn't want anyone to find out, so he quit and left Sheffield."
"Now he wants to donate to A Charitable Earth?"
"I talked you up," she looks at him, "it's very easy talking you up Ace. You are more than wonderful." He picks up both of her hands and kisses them.
"Graham, you are amazing."
"Only because you make me want to be better."
"You were already great, can you please unzip me?" She turns around and feels his hot fingers on her as he does what was asked of him.
"Did I tell you how amazing you looked in that dress," he tells her as she steps out of the dress moving to where she has her sleep shirt, one of his old tee-shirts laying on the bed.
"You have, do you know how debonair you looked tonight?"
"No," she slips on the shirt; she walks back up to him sliding her arms around him.
"Well you did and still do," she leans up to kiss him; her hands sliding underneath his suit jacket.
"Hun," he says, breaking the kiss, "have you asked Tegan yet?"
"No, I'll ask her soon."
"Ace, I want to marry you soon. I have a feeling something is going to happen. What I don't know. What I do know is I want you as my wife when it happens."
"I'll call her up tomorrow." Ace also wants to marry him soon as it will help them in court as a spouse.
