Alastor and Charlie began their journey towards Cannibal Town, as they had once before. Charlie looked around and marveled at all the smiling faces throughout the streets. She couldn't understand how so many sinners avoid this town.
Until she saw a lovely couple sucking bone marrow out of a dead bodies femur.
She felt her mouth water from the nausea that hit her stomach. Alastor noticed and tried to direct her attention away from the public buffet.
"So there is a nice little coffee shop right around here that makes a superb vanilla latte that I think you would enjoy!" Charlie side eyed him and raised an eyebrow.
"How did you know that a vanilla latte is my favorite?" Alastor quickly moved his eyes from Charlie to the sidewalk.
"Lucky guess!" Alastor didn't need her knowing that he had payed more attention to her than she knew. She didn't need to know that he noticed how she only drank vanilla lattes unless there was some acid rain outside, then she would curl up on the couch in the parlor with a blanket and drink a mocha with little marshmallows. Adult hot chocolate, she would call it. Moments like that where Charlie believed Alastor never payed attention, but always did.
Charlie shrugged and smiled. She was actually looking forward to a nice coffee date outside of the hotel. She began to feel like she was suffering from Cabin Fever there for a minute. It was also really nice to be out with Alastor just to spend time with him and not on business. She had flashbacks to their heated moment together the previous night and she fought off the blush that tried to creep up her throat. She had to admit, she was the teensiest bit disappointed that Alastor stopped things before they got more intimate but she also understood. Alastor probably has never done anything like that before, so naturally he would be hesitant even if it was with Charlie. Patience will be worth it, she told herself.
They approached the coffee shop and Charlie had to stop herself from squealing. It was the most precious building she had ever seen! It was a small two window building with a red and white awning. A few tables were outside that were covered with bright red umbrellas. The coffee shop read 'Cannibal Coffee: Coffee So Good You'll Drop Dead!'. Charlie gave Alastor a questionable look to which Alastor shrugged with a smirk on his face.
"Alliteration is a weakness of mine, dear."
"Can we sit outside?" Charlie clasped her hands together as she gave her best puppy dog eyes to Alastor. He chuckled, knowing he didn't have a fighting chance against that.
"But of course, dear. I'll grab the coffees-"
"No! I'll get them. Consider it my treat!" Charlie began to walk towards the coffee shop door when Alastor stopped her by putting his staff in her way.
"I am the one that asked you on this date. Why in Hell would you pay?" Alastor knew that he could be old fashioned but surely he wasn't that out of touch?
"I understand but I insist! Let me do something nice for you for once." Charlie puckered out her bottom lip to really seal her pouty face. Alastor had a pretty strong defense but he was helpless against Charlie's pout. He groaned and waved his hand.
"Fine. If you must but next time I won't budge." Charlie smiled and gave Alastor a quick hug before running side the shop. Alastor brushed off his outfit and took a seat at an empty table.
"Alastor?"
Alastor perked his head up to see Rosie come around the corner. She was lit up like a Christmas tree, as per usual whenever she got to see him. He really should visit her more. He stood up and out stretched his arms.
"Rosie! How delightful to see you again, it's been too long!" Alastor wrapped Rosie in a tight embrace to which she happily returned.
"It certainly has been! Even more so considering the reasoning in which we saw each other last. How...are you by the way?" Rosie whispered. Alastor figured that Rosie would want to talk about his dilemma with his mysterious feelings for Charlie. He had prepared for this, knowing there was a good chance he would run into her today. He wasn't the Radio Demon without always coming up with backup plans.
"I'm well, thank you for asking." Alastor tried to keep it short and make sure the conversation didn't go too deeply. He sincerely didn't want to re hash what he had learned from Lucifer last night. It still sent a shock of pain to his chest every time he remembered.
"So your...situation is solved?"
"Not exactly but I'm working on it. I've got bigger souls to fry currently." Alastor walked her over to the table, both of them taking a seat.
"What could be more important than that?" Rosie placed her head in her hands as she stared at Alastor. She could see that he was slightly uncomfortable with the conversation but that wasn't going to stop her. It just made her want to know even more.
"I will tell you but you mustn't make a big deal of it. I'm getting it taken care of." Alastor said in a lower tone. Rosie nodded.
"I...am the unfortunate recipient of an angelic wound." Alastor felt a kick at his shin under the table to which he stifled a yelp.
"YOU KEPT THAT KIND OF INFORMATION FROM ME? ARE YOU INSANE?" Rosie forgot to keep her voice down, which drew unwanted attention. Alastor casted out his best warning glare which made all eyes on them turn away. He leaned forward and rubbed his shin that was for sure bleeding by now.
"Rosie my dear we've both established that I'm far from sane so I would ask you that you keep your volume at a more inconspicuous level." Alastor said through gritted teeth.
"How did this happen?" Rosie gasped in realization. "During that battle! You seriously let an angel get the better of you?" Alastor loathed the judgmental look on her face and as much as he respected her, wanted nothing more than to wipe it off.
"He was more of a handful than I anticipated, nothing more. Last time I underestimate a rat with wings." Alastor sighed, already feeling a headache come on.
"Well how are you going to heal it? Can it be healed? Oh, Alastor-"
"Volumeeeee Rosie. Last time I'll ask." Alastor's pupils turned to radio dials which let Rosie know he was serious.
"Look I just need to know that you'll be ok. You're my partner in crime!" She said in a hushed tone. Alastor nodded as he saw Charlie make her way out of the shop with two cups of coffee.
"Everything will be fine. Trust me." Alastor whispered before he stood up to greet Charlie.
"Ok so I got you a cup of black coffee! The roast was called 'Rotten Carcass Roast' so I think you'll like it and I got you two packets of creamer in case- Rosie!" Charlie finally noticed the Cannibal Town's Overlord presence and gave her a big smile.
"Nice to see you again, Princess! You're looking particularly lovely today! How're you and your little girlfriend doing?" Rosie saw Charlie's face fall quickly and knew that she asked the wrong thing. Alastor placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Probably not best to ask about that." Alastor mumbled. Rosie saw the sadness in Charlie's eyes and couldn't help but feel bad. She tried to help her with the advice she had gave but clearly it didn't help any.
"Terribly sorry, honey." Rosie looked between Alastor and Charlie. "So wait, what are you two doing here?"
Charlie looked at Alastor with eyes that read 'You didn't tell her?'. Alastor shot her a look back that said 'Clearly not'.
"Charlie and I decided to visit Cannibal Town today and enjoy some coffee. Just enjoying what your town has to offer!" Alastor took the cup of coffee from Charlie's hand that read 'RCR' and gave it a good sip. Extra hot and a lovely roast, indeed. He almost felt giddy that Charlie knew him so well.
"Uh huh. Oooook then! Well don't let me interrupt your fun! I'll catch up with both of you later! Don't be strangers!" Rosie waved at both of them. As Charlie waved back and sat down, Rosie shot Alastor a look that he knew all too well.
This conversation isn't done.
Alastor sighed and knew that him and Rosie would need another pow wow sooner rather than later. He took a seat across from Charlie and crossed his legs comfortingly.
"Well that was nice seeing her! We haven't seen her in a while!" Charlie took a sip of her own latte. It had the tiniest hint of metallic in it but other than that, it was pretty tasty! Alastor noticed a cute foam mustache on her upper lip.
"No sir, we haven't. Lovely mustache by the way!" Alastor pointed to his own top lip. Charlie tried to look down and see what he was talking about but gave up. She let her tongue trace her top lip slowly, making sure she lapped up all of the foam. Alastor felt his stomach flip which made him shift slightly in his seat.
"Ugh, it's so good! They really make good lattes here!" Charlie continued to drink happily. Alastor took another generous sip of his own coffee as well.
"I told you. I wouldn't lie to you about such a thing as coffee."
"I never doubted you!"
For a little while the pair just drank their beverages and enjoyed each other's company. No deep conversations, just blissful relaxation. Their coffees long drank and their mugs all but forgotten, they started to have light chit chat.
"There's absolutely no way that happened!" Charlie put her hands over her mouth. Alastor nodded with a genuine laugh bubbling from his mouth.
"Oh indeed! The man had run off with this woman's purse so naturally I gutted him like swine and had a meal! I must say though that his kidneys were not as tasty as I would've liked. If I hadn't killed him then he surely would've died from organ failure within the year anyway."
Charlie continued to laugh at Alastor's dry sense of humor. She usually couldn't stand someone bragging about taking a life, but knowing that Alastor usually only targeted men who were abusive towards women, it made it more manageable. She always knew Alastor was a gentleman with women and had a natural loathsomeness against men, but after hearing about his childhood she couldn't help but understand.
"So tell me about the first time you...uh..." Charlie made a stabbing motion with her hand which made Alastor bust out in more laughter.
"Oh sweet Charlie. You know better than anyone that my first murder was dear ole dad." Alastor twirled his empty cup with his fingertips.
"Well I mean after that. I-If you're comfortable talking about it!" Charlie rushed, not wanting to make Alastor re-live another terrible memory. From the way his eyes sparkled, she realized that it was probably more of a cherished memory.
"I certainly can, my dear."
A/N: Thank you to everyone who is keeping up with this story! I really didn't imagine it doing this well, so I'm very pleased with it :) I'm considering putting out some Charlastor one shots like some cute fluff if anyone's interested! Let me know! Until next time! xx
