It's been a few months since Iris, Cuphead, and Mugman headed or saw the devil. But things haven't been easy for them despite not seeing and dealing with him for months Cuphead and Iris have both been having nightmares for weeks now. And it happened again that night, Iris was in her bed tossing and turning dreaming.
Iris was in a white dress but not just any dress but a wedding dress, not knowing what was going on and where she was but then she heard someone yelling for her.
"Iris!" Cuphead yelled.
"Save us!" Mugman added.
She turned her head to them and saw that her friends were caught in a net trap.
"Guys!?" Iris was shocked to see both brothers trapped in a net.
She tried to get to them but when she tried to move her legs, she was stuck like glue. Then Henchmen came in front of her all dressed up in a tuxedo.
"Henchmen? What's going on!? Why are we here!?" asked Iris.
"It's your wedding day and we are just waiting for the groom" Henchman answered.
"Groom?…oh no" she guessed what he meant by that.
Then, as she realized who he was talking about, fire rose next to her. Iris shielded her eyes and then as the fire vanished, she looked in fear of the person standing next to her, the devil smiling at her in a white tuxedo.
"The groom has arrived," said the Devil with a big smile.
"No, no, no..this is not happening!" Iris said in a panic trying to move away from him but couldn't she felt something holding her in place and looked down to see that she was held by a magical hold by a red aura.
"Do you boss take Iris Spark to be your wife and queen?" asked Henchman looking at the Devil. The Devil snickers and says looking to Iris "I do!"
Henchmen then turns to Iris and says "And do you Iris take the Devil as your husband?"
Iris refuses to say anything, the devil gets annoyed by her stubbornness snaps his fingers, and magically gets her to say the words she would not willingly say "I do" Iris said shocked.
Henchmen smiled "Then I pronounce you husband and wife you may now kiss the bride!" The Devil happily did as he grabbed her and then dipped her before he kissed her lips as tears fell from Iris's eyes.
Then Iris finally woke up from her nightmare catching her breath and realizing it was just another nightmare. Realizing she was safe in her room, she checked the clock on her bedside table to see it was only 11 at night. "It's still only 11 pm..?" she groaned. Sparky jumped up on the bed and rubbed his head against her arm, Iris then petted him on the head "Don't worry Sparky, I'm ok….just another bad dream". Iris decided to try and go back to sleep with Sparky lying down next to her but then they both heard a noise she looked around until she noticed something hitting her window.
Then she saw a pebble hit her window and then another one. "What the?"
She put on a robe and went to the window. She opened it and looked around but didn't see anything or anyone. Suddenly she heard someone soft yelling her name "Iris!" it was her friends Cuphead and Mugman both brothers waved to her from the ground. She grabbed her wand from the night table beside her bed and waved it to poof herself and Sparky outside in front of the two brothers. "Why are you guys here? It's the middle of the night." Iris yawned. "Cuphead was having that bad dream again" Mugman mentions pointing to his brother.
He scratches his head and starts to blush. "Oh, Cuphead." Iris felt sorry for him and hugged him. She knows about his recurring nightmare about the devil taking his soul.
"So I was thinking of taking him to…." he whispered in her ear. Iris couldn't help but smile after hearing the great idea Mugman had in mind to help Cuphead. "Oh that could work, good idea Mugman." she patted his back making him blush a little. "Oh it's nothing and I was wondering if you could…" Before he could finish what he was going to say next Iris nodded, waved her wand, and magically changed her sleep clothes to day clothes.
"Come with you guys? Of course. Now let's get going!" She and Sparky walked into the forest with Mugman following her. Only Cuphead stayed behind them until he asked. "Go where? Come on, Iris? Mugsy?" but none of the two gave him an answer. He then runs after them into the forest.
Meanwhile in the underworld
The Devil and Henchman walked around a part of the Underworld guided by an Imp.
For one of the many duties of being King of the Underworld, the devil has to go over and check all the different department's progress of his underworld's entire operation.
"If you'd step over here, sir. This is the gluttony department." He shows the devil everything around the department. "Our reports have shown an 89% increase in global overeating." The three stopped while the devil smiled at the news. "Oh! How delicious! Oh! What's over there?" The devil then made his way to another department section where many imps were hard at work. "Team famine, sir. Not only is famine on a global upswing, but we've branched out into hunger-induced rage. The projected numbers are through the roof!" another imp informed him.
"Wonderful! Did you know about this?" The Devil said to henchmen then squealed going over to another department of imps working on the computer monitors "So this is where we do war!"
"Three new wars are being waged with catastrophic results on both sides" said one of the imps in the war department. "We're breaking all previous records, sir" added the other imp working on the other computer monitors. "That is amazing! Oh, I'm impressed with how fantastically I'm running this whole operation" said the devil who was thrilled by the successful progress of his entire operation "In fact, I think I deserve a celebration!"
Then the Devil pulled out his pitchfork twirling it before hitting it on the ground then to everyone's surprise sparks and black smoke magic changed the entire room with balloons, party streamers, and tables with party drinks and snacks. Everyone is wearing party hats and a big banner hanging above with "Congrats Devil" on it.
The said Devil who had a proud smile on his face picked up a drink and then lightly tapped the glass to get everyone's attention "Attention, everyone. We're having our most productive year in a millennia. All thanks to my hard work and dedication…"
The Devil goes on about taking all the credit for how it's all thanks to him for their success while two imps whisper to each other in the crowd "What's he talking about?"
The other imp replied, "I don't know, but we haven't had a break in 3,000 years, so just go with it". The Devil was just about to finish his speech "So, let's all raise a glass to me!" He raised his glass smiling as everyone clapped for him.
Things were going great the only thing that would make it more perfect was if Iris was here to enjoy his party with him but for now he was content that is until Stickler the underworld auditor had to say something in his well-known nasal voice "Um… excuse me!" Imp's moved aside to let him through the crowd. "Oh, not this guy" Henchmen said with an annoyed look on his face just like their boss knowing Stickler would somehow ruin everyone's fun.
"Um, according to the ledger, there is one outstanding soul in need of collection" Henchmen tried to get him not to bring up the fact that he still hadn't gotten the cup's soul but that still didn't stop him from bringing it up as Stickler continues to speak as he brought out his ledger book to the Devil's face as he continued "It is a cup. "He played soul ball. He was on roll the dice as of today's date, his soul remains uncollected."
"Also we still have to discuss the young Spark witch you are infatuated with, that you wish to marry and make queen of the underworld" Stickler decides to bring up Iris as well to his boss.
"And what's to discuss about my darling Iris?" the Devil asks wondering why Stickler is bringing up his bride.
"She won Roll the Dice and you have yet to bring back Iris Spark to marry her and make her our queen. And you should also know that…" But Stickler gets interrupted by his boss "You know perfectly well I haven't done that because of her magical necklace that is preventing me from bringing her back here!" as annoyed as he is with Stickler he remembers that everyone was watching him and he just really wanted to enjoy his party so he cooled down. "Thank you, Stickler, our very diligent auditor. (chuckling) But I'm sure it's just a clerical error, everyone. (he laughs)".
Unfotunlly Stickler was not dropping the subject "Doubtful. As you–"
"Hey! Let's get that music going!" The Devil said to change the subject and get back to enjoying the party before Stickler ruins it. He then starts up a conga line as conga music starts playing much to Stickler's joy being both interrupted and forced to take part in the conga line while trying to not drop the subject "Ahem, excuse me!" but sadly no luck for him "Excuse me"
Meanwhile back with Iris and the cups who were walking deeper into the part of the woods that Cuphead was not familiar with so he had to ask them "Mugman, Iris? Where are you guys taking me?"
"You'll see" said Mugman said as he led the group
"Cuphead, Just trust us ok" Iris said turning her head to reassure her friend that they knew what they were doing when they finally reached where Mugman wanted to go to find the mysterious person who could help his brother with the devil problem and maybe help Iris who also has a problem with the devil.
Mugman pulled away some bushes to show a place with rings of standing stone and a small shining pool of water "Whoa!" Cuphead said amazed by the new surroundings. The four of them came close to the pool of water gazing at their reflections as they kneeled around the pool, Mugman then grabbed something out of his pockets a bag of a big jawbreaker.
"Is that my sour fizzy jawbreaker? Hey!" Cuphead said both shocked and wondering why his brother would have his jawbreaker and then drop it into the pool of water in front of them making the water fizz.
"Aw, man! I was working on that for months!" said a now sad Cuphead at the loss of his jawbreaker that took a while to save up with his allowance from Elder Kettle to get. "I'll get you another one" Iris said as she placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Mugman looked to his brother "I'm sorry, Cuphead, but we gotta make the water fizz so he'll appear" He explained to him but that just made him even more confused. "So who will appear?"
Just as Cuphead asked they all heard a loud echoing voice
"When in doubt, young man of mug, give your brother one last hug" Surprising and frightening both Cuphead and Sparky. "What was that?" asked a frightened Cuphead as Iris again placed a comforting hand on his shoulder while petting a shaking Sparky who jumped in her arms after hearing that loud voice. "An immortal sage advisor" Iris said calming both of them down.
"Rumored to know all" Mugman added before all their attention turned to the voice coming from the pool of water. "I am quadratus, the great and wise! Come closer, young ones, so I may advise" Quadratus appeared in the water showing the face of an older man with a white beard.
"We come seeking your wisely wisdom" Mugman said to Quadratus who then continued to speak but the water changed to an image of the devil having Cuphead soul "Protection is your friend and your mugly goal, for the devil seeks your cuply soul. But fear not, for there is one way to save his soul and keep the devil at bay." Then the water image changes again to show a sweater "A sweater, knit with invisible fur from a long-extinct creature, will deter." The water changes back to Quadratus's face " Uh, basically, the sweater is impenetrable to the devil, so…"
Quadratus said dropping his rhyming, surprising the group and causing Cuphead to ask "Uh, you stopped rhyming" to which Quadratus replied "Eh. It gets old. If you're wearing it, he cannot collect your soul."
Quadratus then started looking for something as some of the water splashed out of the pool "Now, where is that…? Ah-ha! Here it is" Then a watery hand forms out of the water holding an invisible ball of yarn "This is the last ball of invisible yarn! Take it, Mugman! And you must knit the sweater". Quadratus said as he then gave the magic ball of yarn to Mugman.
"Wait. Why do I gotta do all the work?" Mugman asks wondering why Quadratus said he has to be the one to knit the sweater for his brother. "The sweater is only effective if it's made with brotherly love" The water image changed to an image of a heart as Quadratus explained to them why."Well, looks like I'm knitting an invisible swear, then" said Mugman as he looked at the invisible yarn ball in his hand.
"Gee! Thanks, Mugsy! You're the best brother a cup could ever have!" Said a real touch Cuphead as he hugged his brother. "Oh, how sweet" Quadratus said then shouted at them "Now get knitting!"
Quadratus then turns his attention to Iris. "Iris Spark a word my dear" Iris looked at him
"Yes, Quadratus?
"Word has it that the Devil has another plan for he is after your lovely hand" Quadratus said as the water image changed to the image of the Devil kissing her hand while Iris looked distressed. Iris sighed tiredly after looking at the image then said "Unfortunately yes it's true, Quadratus Sir what should I do?" she asked hoping that if anyone could help her friend then hopefully Quadratus as wise as he is could help her with her problem with the Devil who is hell-bent on marrying her and making her his queen.
"I don't have your dear grandmother's future gift of sight but the only advice I have on hand is.." Quadratus said looking at Iris regrettably sad that there was nothing else that he knew of currently that could help her with her unwanted king of the underworld admirer problem. Then a watery hand formed out of the water pointing at her necklace around her neck "As long as you wear your necklace with that precious gem it will keep you safe from both the devil and dark magic"
Iris sighed disappointed that even Quadratus didn't have anything else that could help her out with her unwanted love craze Devil problem. Both Cuphead and Mugman place a comforting hand on both sides of her shoulder while Sparky cuddles her while still in her arms. Quadratus thought for a moment then remembered something that might help her.
"Just remember young Spark witch another word of advice for your journey ahead" Iris and her friends listen as Quadratus continues to speak.
"As Heart and Mind work as one, a villain's plan and evil can be undone"
Iris didn't know what to make of the word of wisdom Quadratus shared with them but she took his word of wisdom to heart to remember it. "Thank you Quadratus sir" she thanked. Quadrantus smiled up at her both happy and hoping that was the best help he could give to her for now "You are very welcome my dear"
Iris then brought out her wand then magically two knitting needles appeared then gave them to Mugman "Now then... We got a sweater to knit."
Then Mugman started working on the magical sweater to help save his brother.
Meanwhile back at the underworld party
The Devil was laughing and chatting with other Imps enjoying the party "Oh! Deviled eggs! You know, I invented these." Just as he was about to enjoy eating one of the deviled eggs he got interrupted by a familiar voice that annoyed him so.
"(Clears throat) Excuse me!" it was Stickler once again not letting go of the topic of Cuphead's soul that still had yet to collect and determined to get the Devil's attention.
"(Groans) There goes my appetite" the devil said annoyed putting the deviled egg back on the food tray. Then saw something else to do to both get away from Stickler and get back to enjoying his party "Oh, games! Anyone up for a round of darts?"
Devil asked before picking up one of the darts focusing on the dartboard and trying to get a good aim on the center but just before he could toss the dart Stickler once again tried to get his attention "Excuse me, please"
The Devil groans annoyed then carelessly tossing the dart that was in his hand that hit a random imp which the said imp yells in pain from the dart "Ow!".
The devil was already getting angry and was already annoyed with Stickler constantly bothering him from enjoying his party. He then tries to enjoy some party punch but Stickler doesn't give him a chance and then comes out of the said punch.
"Um…" causing the Devil to spit out his drink before finally losing his cool but giving in to Stickler's demand to get Cuphead soul.
"Fine!" said the Devil who was briefly on fire due to his anger "Attention, everyone. I have a teensy-weensy thing to take care of." the Devil said as he got everyone's attention.
Then grabbed his pitchfork "Don't stop the party. I'll only be a minute." giving Stickler a dirty look then he poofs away in black smoke the Imps gasped surprised.
Henchmen came up to Stickler and said "Uh, nice work, stickler." also giving him a dirty look for not only being a downer at the party but not letting their boss enjoy his party. But Stickler was unbothered by him and said back "I will not apologize for doing my job"
Meanwhile back with Iris, Cuphead, and Mugman
Mugman was finally done knitting the inviable sweater for his brother "There! All Finished" he then turned to Cuphead and gave him the sweater "Okay, Cuphead. Put it on."
Cuphead took the sweater but noticed a smell coming from the sweater "(Sniffs) Urgh! Yuck! It Stinks!" he said in disgust and wasn't sure about wearing the sweater now.
"Cuphead that sweater is for your own good" Iris said reminding him.
"Yeah, You heard Quadratus. It's the only thing that'll stop the devil from taking your soul." said Mugman who also reminded him that's the only thing they have that could actually keep his soul safe.
Cuphead gave in "All right. I'll put it on. (Grunts)" Then finally wearing the sweater "Oh! I guess it is nice and toasty" hugging himself and enjoying how comfy the sweater was on him.
Iris was relieved that Cuphad put on the sweater "Great, now we can go home and get some sleep" but before any of them started walking that's when the devil appeared from the Smoke right in front of them "Oh no you?!" Iris said both surprised and annoyed to see him here. She was also wondering what was with the party hat he was wearing.
The Devil was a bit surprised to see Iris as well but happy to see her. His mind completely forgot about his original mission and the reason he was there in the first place "Iris! Darling what a wonderful surprise. I'm having a little party back in the underworld and I was wondering would you–"
Then the cups yelling snapping him out of his little distraction on Iris and reminding him why he is here again in the first place
Cuphead and Mugmen (Yelling) "The Dev–"
The annoyed Devil slaps the pointing finger away from his face "Yeah, Yeah. I'm here for the Soul. Let's make it snappy." The Devil claw was just about to grab the cup soul but instead got a magical shock "(Spluttering, Grunting) Youwch!" said the Devil then started to suck on his figure from the pain.
"Hey, It worked!" said a happy Cuphead who is relieved along with Mugman and Iris that the sweater works and now the devil can't take his soul.
"You're wearing an impenetrable, invisible sweater! But How?!" Devil said now both angry and wondering how that cup could have possibly have one of the most powerful things that could have stopped him from taking his soul.
"Thanks to Quadratus" Iris said smirking proudly that they got the upper hand. Cuphead and his soul is now safe from getting taken by him. "Yhea and Mugman made it for me. It works on account of our brotherly love" Cuphead added bringing his brother in front of him who waved with a shy expression.
"(Groans) Of course it does" the devil said rolling his eyes annoyed.
"Now, if you'll excuse us, we'll be on our way home." Cuphead said as the four of them walked past him. But the Devil reappears in front of them again "The Devil!" Cuphead screams in fear and points at the Devil
"Cuphead you're wearing the sweater, remember?" Mugmen reminded his brother
"So you're safe" Iris also added to reassure him. "Oh, right" Cuphead said as he remembered that he was wearing the said magic sweater.
"Yeah, about that. Why don't you save us both some time and take it off?" said the Devil who was looking at Cuphead at his level before changing his attention back to Iris at eye level "And while we're at it why don't you take off that necklace?"
"Ha! Are you kidding?!" Iris said at that ridiculous request "Fat Chance!" Cuphead agrees along with Iris.
"Hmm. Oh!" the devil said then got an Idea smirking then in his hand a ten dollar bill magically appeared in his hand "Take it off, and I'll give you ten bucks!" the devil offered to Cuphead with a sure smile he would be giving into the offer.
Iris rolled her eyes "Oh come on you really think that Cuphead would…" she said but got interrupted.
"Oh, boy! Ten Bucks!" Said an excited Cuphead as he was about to take off his sweater but got stopped by Iris and Mugman "Cuphead!? No!" Iris said stopping his arms from taking off his sweater
"Your soul's worth more than ten bucks" said Mugman hoping to knock some sense to his brother from giving the devil his soul for a ten-dollar bill.
"Hey, you're right!"Cuphead said to Mugman then turned to look at the devil but then said to him "Make it twenty" This shocked both Iris and Mugman.
"You are not risking your soul for twenty bucks! Or any amount of money!" Said Iris looking at Cuphead who couldn't believe that her friend would think of giving his soul up for money.
"That's right! So you are keeping that sweater on. Now let's go home." Mugmen said as he grabbed his brother's hand and led him away from the devil followed by Iris and Sparky. "Ok what about this lovely necklace or beautiful sapphire ring for your necklace?" the devil said as he moved in front of Iris and snapped his fingers then a beautiful sapphire necklace and ring appeared floating on both sides of his shoulders. Hoping that one of the jewelry would tempt her into taking off her necklace but Iris was unfazed by what he was trying to tempt her with. "Wow, so you think you can easily bribe me? For my family's necklace that not only my grandmother passed down to me but also the only thing protecting me from you."
Iris got close to him and their noses almost touched "Never going to happen" she said as she pulled away and walked away from him while Sparky nodded in agreement and growled at him before following his owner. "Come on Sparky, guys let's go" Iris said as she pulled out her wand and waved it then they were gone. Then they were far away from the devil but instead of ending up back at her house, they ended up in another part of the woods.
"What?" Iris said as she tried to wave her wand again but no luck her wand refused to work "Oh great" she said out of frustration. "What's wrong Irie?" asked Cuphead wondering what was wrong that made Iris so frustrated "Looks like my wand decided now not to work" Iris explained as she gave up and put her wand away in her left pocket.
"No problem, we just have to walk the rest of the way home" Mugman said and led the way out of the woods but then they saw a mini tent and a carny trying to get their attention.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry! Step right up!" He said to the group "See the teapot tentacle lady!" as he pointed at the posters around him of the many different attractions "Encounter the bearded flamingo!" hoping one of his attractions would catch their interest
"Gawk at the really big squirrel".
Cuphead and Mugman both "(gasp) Big squirrel?!" One of the carny's attractions finally caught their interest "We gotta see how big it is" said Mugman.
"Right this way, folks!" The carny guides the cups to the tent but notices Iris and stops her.
"Well hello beautiful miss lovely night" The carny took her free right hand and kissed it three times before she pulled it away and walked away to join her friends.
Mugman then notices a sign hanging above the tent entrance "A wait, Cuphead. It says "No sweaters allowed."
Cuphead was unbothered by it and said "Oh well off it goes" he was about to take off his sweater but Mugman stopped him "Hold it! Something's fishy about this" Iris agreed "Yeah, no sweater? That is oddly specific"
Mugman then added "And I don't like the look of that carny" They then looked to see the carny snickers behind the tent making him more suspicious and creepy.
"Come on. Let's scram" Mugman said as the group decided to keep on moving to get back home and as far away from that carny. As they were out of sight the devil changed back to himself and snarled that his plan didn't work.
As they walked further away Mugman noticed something "(sniffing ) something smells delicious!" then they all noticed a hot dog cart exciting Cuphead "Oh, boy! Free hot dogs!" who ran up to the cart to help himself to one of the hot dogs while Mugman also notices another table next to the hot dog cart "And a table with free strawberry shortcake?"
Just as Cuphead was about to eat a hot dog Iris stopped him "Cuphead wait! Free hot dogs in the middle of the woods? Don't you think that's odd?" She also added "And a table with one of my favorite desserts happened to be here too?"
Mugman agreed to this weird coincidence then noticed something written on the hot dog "Yeah Irie is right, Look! One bite of this free hot dog may unleash a plague of sweater-eating demon moths." Then he also noticed something written on the napkin on the shortcake table "And on the other table, warning eating any of the strawberry shortcake on this table will attract jewelry stealing pixies"
Mugman surprised by what he just read "(gasps) Something weird is going on!" Iris agreed and kind of had an idea what was going on "And I think I know who's behind all this…And It's Not Going To Work!" Iris said and yelled out loud enough hoping a certain demon heard it wherever he was.
Mugman had enough of this "Come on" then took the hot dog from his brother threw it on the ground then stepped on it a couple of times before walking away while Cuphead, Iris, and Sparky followed him. As they were out of sight the devil changed back to himself and snarled another plan of his failed
As they were walking they almost walked passed another pool of water, then they heard a familiar voice of Quadrates that got their attention. "I know I said wear a sweater, but take it off, and that's much better." said Quadrates smiling at them then he turned his attention to Iris "And Iris dear why run away? Give old scratch a chance, why not today?"
Both Mugman and Iris knew something was not right with all this but Cuphead on the other hand was convinced "You're the boss" he said as he was about to remove his sweater till both Iris and Mugman once again stopped him.
"Cuphead! Hold on! Think why would Quadrates be all the way here?" Iris said trying to point out the obvious to him, something is up. "And tell you to take off your sweater and tell me to give the devil a chance?" Iris added.
"Yeah and… Hey! Quadrates don't have horns." Mugman said as he noticed the horns on the fake Quadrates then started to connect the dots on what was going on
"That's the devil in disguise! He's been trying to get your sweater off this whole time!"
"And trying to get my necklace off and get me to give him a chance. Nice try Jerk" Iris said annoyed while giving an angry look to the pool of water who chuckled nervously at her knowing that the jig was up and his plan once again failed.
"Let's go!" Mugman said pushing his brother away from the pool of water along with Iris and Sparky but not before he blows a raspberry at the Devil. As they walked away The Devil changed back and growled hitting the ground with his fist.
"Dang it! My wand is still not working" Iris said as all four of them started to run far away from the devil and trying as fast as they could to get out of the woods as possible.
"Don't worry (pants) Look! We're almost out of the woods!" Mugman said and pointed out that they were almost out of the woods but suddenly the Devil appred right in front of them blocking their way "No you're not! Now take off that sweater! And that necklace!" he said both angry and demanding that not only the Cup to take off the sweater but Iris to also take off her necklace.
"Not going to happen, Devil" Iris said, crossing her arms and looking annoyed at him.
"Just give up already" Mugman said just as annoyed as everyone.
"yeah! You should try transforming into someone who doesn't fail all the time" Cuphead said and added "And just take a hint that Iris would never love or marry you"
Then Cuphead, Mugman, and Sparky started to laugh at him. The devil got mad at that, especially at the last comment "(growls) then roars" in a fiery rage literally as he lights up.
Then the heat started to get to them, especially Cuphead "Phew! So hot" That did not go unnoticed by the Devil "Oh! (Snickers)" he got an idea and then decided to turn up the heat as he lightened up again but his flames were bigger. Causing everyone to sweat but Cuphead was suffering more from the heat due to the sweater "(pants) I'm cooking in here. I gotta take thing off" Cuphead was about to take off the sweater again but Mugman and Iris tried to stop him once again "No! keep it on!" Mugman protested along with Iris "Without that sweater, you have nothing to protect you from him" Iris said.
Cuphead just pushed them away "I can't. I can't take it!" he said as he was starting to slowly take off his sweater.
The devil was happy that his plan was working, the cup would soon take off the sweater and he would finally get his soul. He also hopes that the heat will cause Iris to pass out so he can get Henchmen here to get her necklace off so he can finally take her back to the underworld.
Iris and Mugman started to panic trying to think of something to save Cuphead. Then Mugman remembers what Quadratus told him earlier "When in doubt, young man of mug…"
Then Mugman realizes what can save his brother "Give your brother one last hug!"
Mugman then hugs his brother and Iris hugs both of them. While Sparky stands close in the group
"Hey! What are you doing?" Cuphead asks confused about what they are doing
The devil saw this and decided to add more of his fire powers coming their way
Cuphead yelled but thanks to both the sweater and Iris necklace made a magic invisible barrier shield around them all from the heat and fire.
Then his powers caused an explosion, and as the smoke slowly cleared everything was burnt or turned to ash. Standing where he is the devil looks proudly so sure that his plan worked. Unfortunately for him when the smoke finally cleared to his surprise the cups, Iris and Sparky were still sanding safe and sound with no scratch on them. Cuphead and Iris are still wearing the sweater and necklace. After being surprised the devil then lost it yelling angrily and started to shapeshift crazily into many different creatures while Iris, the boys, and Sparky watched in shock.
While the devil was still losing it in his rage breakdown Cuphead said "We should go"
Mugman agreed with his brother "Yeah" Iris agreed and had enough of watching the devil break down "Yay, let's get out of here" Iris pulled out her wand and the wand was finally working again, with a wave and poof the group was gone.
After the devil cooled down after yelling and letting out all his anger "(groans) I hate those cups and that necklace" he said then grabbed his trident then he poofed back to his party in the underworld.
As the devil returned to the underworld party he had a smile on his face "Well, I got him! Old scratch did it again" he said as he lied to everyone at the party.
The Devil figured sure he didn't get the Cup's soul or his bride Iris this time but there will be other chances and after everything he just went through he admits defeat for now and gets back to enjoying his party "Where's that cake?"
An Imp came by and placed a big chocolate cake right in front of him. Just as he grabs a knife to cut himself a piece he then hears a well-known nasal voice that annoys him so "Um…where is the soul that has been retrived?…Hmm?" Stickler asked him.
The Devil has already had it with Stickler ruining his party and night, It didn't help with his failed attempts to get Iris and the cup's soul. After everything he went through he was not going to let Stickler ruin the rest of his night and party so even as he clinched his fist he put up a smile and then came up with a convincing lie to buy himself some more time to get the Cup's soul "I put it in the soul vault. With the others"
Stickler was a little unconvinced but decided to ask him "And were you able to bring back Miss Spark?" The Devil gave him a look annoyed that he had to bring up Iris.
"Not yet… but I will one of these days I can promise you that"
Stickler sighed after hearing his response "I guess we could talk about Miss Spark later…" and decided to return to the topic of the Cup's soul "So you didn't register it?
Stickler brought out his ledger book "We have a tracking system in place. Every soul must be officially accounted…." but then a fiery blast went through the book leaving a big hole on the book "For." Stickler finishes his sentence as he looks at his now-damaged book.
"Oops" The Devil said as he acted surprised by what just happened to Stickler's book but then pointed out "I guess the auditor will have to do a full recount."
To which a now distressed Stickler responded "But I'm the auditor" Then a now happy devil replied "Oh, that's right" Then turned Stickler around to go back to work "Well, don't let us keep you, Bye!" he waved at a now sad Stickler who groans at the fact that he now has to recount all the souls from the underworld soul vault.
As he walked away the devil was happy that he wouldn't be bothered by Stickler for the time being and could now get back to enjoying his party "Who still needs cake, huh?" he asked his imps at the party as he now can get back to enjoying the party.
The next morning at the Spark's house
Iris woke up looking really tired as she went to meet her grandma Dora and Andrea downstairs for breakfast. "Morning" Iris said yawning as she sat down at the kitchen table, her grandma walked to her and placed a stack of pancakes with lots of strawberries
"Good morning dear"
Andrea noticed her friend looking more tired than usual and could already guess the reason "You had another bad dream again, didn't you" she asked Iris as she was having her breakfast "Yeah, but you would not believe what else happened last night" and so Iris told her grandma Dora and Andrea about everything that happened last night with Cuphead, Mugman, and devil.
Dora couldn't help but laugh after hearing what Iris just told them "Good for Cuphead, at least you three got the upper hand from that no-good Devil" said Dora to her granddaughter. "Ha, I wish I could have seen the look on his face" said Andrea as she laughed after hearing the Devil's anger breakdown at his failed attempts to trick or get Cuphead or Iris to take off the sweater or necklace.
"Thank goodness Quadrates had that inviable yarn, I'll thank him at our next card night" Dora said as she enjoyed her café. "Now we just have to figure out how to solve your love craze Diablo problem" added Andrea.
Iris sighed annoyed that she still had to deal with her unwanted Devil admirer. Dora placed her coffee cup on the table and then looked at Iris "Don't worry sweetie I have something that could help for extra protection" she said as both Iris and Andera wondered what she had in mind to help protect Iris from the Devil beside from the necklace she gave her.
Then suddenly a pixie came in from the open kitchen window using his magic to hold a medium package bigger than the pixie delivering it. "Moring ladies…Got a delivery for a Miss Dora Spark" he said as he read from his clipboard. "That would be me" said Dora as she took the small clipboard to sign the mini delivery papers "Sign here please" Dora did then took the package from him. "Thank you for choosing Magie delivery service, where we put magical care in each delivery" he said and was about to leave but Dora stopped him.
"Thank you and here's a tip" she said as she gave him a gold coin which he appreciated a lot "Thank you miss!" he said and then took his leave out the window.
"What did you order, Grandma?" Iris asked curious about what was in the package
"Oh it's from your father," Dora said as she handed the package to her "Papá?" Iris said surprised. Iris's Father is Jay Spark, a famous wizard performer who is currently on one of his magic world tours. "I told him and your mother about your devil problem and your father called and told me that he had something from his travels that could help give you extra protection" Iris opened up the package to reveal a big smooth Obsidian sphere that came with a holder made out of bamboo.
"Obsidian is known for its protective properties," Dora said as she took the Obsidian from Iris and placed it on a small table in the living room then suddenly a purple light lit up the whole room to the entire house before everything was back to normal.
Iris and Andrea couldn't help but say "Whoa" amazed at what happened.
"What just happened?" Andrea asked as she looked at Dora "That my dears were the effect of the Obsidian, this gem has an extra enchantment that protective properties is now protecting the whole house" Dora said explaining to the girls. "Now the entire house is safe from any kinds of dark magic, so now no dark magic can enter this house unless someone invites them in"
"So sweetie now you don't have to worry about The Devil brothering you at home"
Dora reassured Iris. "And now safe from other dark magic, especially with Lucius Tale still on the loose" added Andrea.
Dora looked concerned about something that got both Iris and Andrea worried. "Grandma, are you ok?" Iris asked "Hmm…oh nothing dear, the main thing is that you can sleep easily at night now," Dora said to reassure the girls that she was fine.
Then all three of them heard someone yelling in pain "Yow!" coming from their backyard door after hearing that Andrea and Iris both rushed to the back door to see what was going on. Andrea opened the door as Iris peeked behind her and they saw the Devil lying down on the ground, some parts of his fur burnt, some smoke coming off him and pain stars circling above his head.
The girls both couldn't help but laugh at the Devil's current appearance. Then Dora walked past the girls and walked till she was in front of the devil "I see you got to test out our new magic protection to our house Devil" Dora couldn't help but smirk at the outcome and glad to see the Obsidian magic protection is working.
The Devil got up and dusted himself off, his face red not just by anger that his plan to kidnap Iris from her home failed but also embarrassment at his current appearance and it didn't help that Iris was laughing at him.
"You may have won today Dora Spark, but your granddaughter will someday be mine. Hmph!" He yelled out then he brought his pitchfork then hit it on the ground then in a cloud of black smoke he was gone back to the underworld.
"Now then let's go back to enjoying our breakfast, I made some blueberry muffins that should be done in the oven now," said a now cheerful Dora. As Iris and Andrea went back into the kitchen to get go back to their breakfast. Just as Dora was about to close the back door to the house she stopped and looked around seeing nothing. For some reason, she just had a strange feeling that they were being watch. Dora decided to shrug it off for now and closed the door behind her.
Unknown to Dora her suspicion was right far away in an unknown location Lucius Tale was using an all-seeing eye spell and he saw everything "So the Sparks have an extra magic protection security to their home and the only way anyone other than good magic can enter the house needs to be invited in hmm.." Lucius Tale said out loud taking in the information he overheard from spying on them. "Looks like we have to come up with a plan," Lucius Tale said to someone next to him, no one could see the mysterious person lurking in the shadow beside him but whoever they were was working alongside Lucius Tale.
