Prologue: A Hunt within the Apocalypse
When I was a child, I was told by the neighborhood priest that the apocalypse would be announced by the sound of bells, then four horsemen would bring misery to this world and the savior and his enemy would engage in one final struggle in the skies for the survival of all mankind. Instead, the Apocalypse was announced by the sound of an cruel electric ringing followed by a deafening heaviness that crushed everything in its wake. Instead of four horsemen, the misery was brought by a metallic ship protected by liquid tentacles and passengers of power unending. Yet, there was a savior engaging in a struggle against his enemy in the skies for the survival of mankind.
Unfortunately, there would be nothing final about that struggle. Instead, the apocalypse proved to be the first chapter of a new book of horror and wonder in the unending history of mankind. But that wasn't the notion one would achieve by looking at the streets of Metropolis that fateful day in the spring of 2015. As I ran away far from the shrieking sound of metallic doom, I blended with the overwhelming crowd. It was formed by people from all races, creeds and walks of life, united by fear of inevitable demise.
Except me.
I was here searching for someone. As my eyes scanned the mass of flesh, bones and screams, my eyes focused on a single long haired head. I struggled to have a closer look, but the crowd moved with the pace and weight of a hundred elephants. And then it happened. The buzzing stopped. And like a crowd of sheep upon reaching the slaughterhouse, they all stopped dead in their tracks. The horror giving way to another type of confusion. Heads started turning. Faces froze as they faced the sky, only to see the image of an airplane hitting the three legged demon of flying metal.
But I had no time to contemplate the postponement of extinction. This was my chance to catch my prey. As the crowd continued to stare at the alien foe, the earthly evil I chased turned to flee. As an equally alien wave of sound circled above us, I snuck amongst the herd of skin, drawing closer to the skinny mass long haired target. He ran out of steam on a dead end alley. Collapsing to the ground with barely controlled breathing and a hand in the air.
"Please Lieutenant Bullock, have mercy!" He begs to me with panic in his voice, a far cry from the arrogance of months before.
For a few seconds I struggled.
It's been a decade since I last murdered a man.
But her name goes through my head once again, this time reaching the lips.
"Sarah Otello, age 12."
His response is terrified silence.
He knew he was done, for he didn't have mercy upon that little girl so neither I would have upon him.
I draw my revolver and aim towards him.
The rest was easy.
Hiya all. Sky_walker here. I just wanna say before anyone says anything, no, this is not my story, nor is this a joint operation I'm working on. This story is instead written by a good friend of mine, Denis Mendina who, like myself is a massive fan of Zack Snyder's DC Universe. This story, which will also be published under the Gold Rush Editions: Novels and Audiobooks banner like The Last Knight of Krypton, is based off stories written by Mike Hammer from what Denis has told me. It will follow Detective Harvey Bullock as he engages in a strand of mysteries leading up to a fateful confrontation during the Black Zero Event. The day Mankind was introduced to the Superman. This chapter has also been published on Wattpad under my Optimusanakin2468 account. I can't wait to see what Denis has in store when he does drop Chapter One, and I'm sure you guys will probably feel the same.
