Chapter 6: Nice to meet you, Kagamine Len

It was another day, Rin was more excited than usual today, Kiyoteru could only imagine what did this little orange lover's plans today to get her all riled up. "Rin, Slow down, you're gonna choke on your food if you keep eating at that pace," Their Mother said. Rin didn't seem to pay mind to it, she just kept munching. "At least chew properly and don't make a sound while chewing, it sounds disgusting," Kiyoteru said, taking a slow but mannered bite of his own food. Rin pouted but complied, eating slower and quieter, but It was clear she was still in a hurry to finish eating and do whatever she planned to do.

Their parents look at Kiyoteru, Kiyoteru looks at them, they look at Kiyoteru before their parents look back at him. "Fine," Kiyoteru said with a sigh, he then looks at Rin who was now finished eating her breakfast. "Rin, what's gotten you so extra today?" Kiyoteru asked. Rin looks at him with wide and excited blue eyes before speaking. "Yesterday I saw a boy my age! I wasn't able to talk to him yesterday, but today, I will! And we will have so much fun playing!" She said with an excited and hopeful smile.

Kiyoteru and his parents could see why she is excited. Rin was always alone, not because kids avoided her, but because there was barely anyone in the neighborhood who was Rin's age. And the boy she's talking about, Kiyoteru could assume is probably the kid who lives in the nearby house. His parents moved here, and Kiyoteru saw this kid during the time they were moving their belongings into the new house that they would be living in. He didn't get a good enough view, but he did notice that the boy had blonde hair like Rin and seemed to be her age.

Kiyoteru smiled, before patting her on the head, "Well, go on. Just don't overwhelm the poor kid with your energy," Kiyoteru said. Rin nodded, "Ok, I promise!" She soon ran off. Kiyoteru had a feeling that the kid will have a very active day if Rin does find him.

She retraced her steps yesterday, hoping to find the boy she found yesterday in the same spot. Needless to say, she was very excited to meet someone who was the same age as her. She imagined how much fun it would be to see someone her age and play with them. Eventually, she arrived at the place where she spotted him, and fortunately, he was there, on the swing. He looked a bit lonely, just swinging on the swing without anyone to swing with.

Rin excitedly approached him, "HEY! What's your name!?" She shouted. The boy jumped from the sudden sound of an excited girl. He looked at the girl who approached him with excited eyes. He waved back and made a small, polite, awkward smile. "Hello?" He said awkwardly, not knowing what to do, whether to say his name or say hello first. "Hey, I'm Rin Himaya! Are you new here?" She said with a bright smile that Len could swear almost blinded him, or was it simply the sunlight hitting his eyes?

"Hello, Rin," The boy hesitently said, raising his hand a little, a gesture if greetings. "My name is Kagamine Len, but you can call me Len," He said, idle swinging back snd fourth using his legs. "Great! You can call me Rin then," She said as whe goes behind him, Len turns to look at her. "Want me to help you swing?" She said excitedly, her small hands on the rope of the swing. "Um, sure?" Len said, it was more if a question than a answer, but Rin thought it was good enough, and without warning she pulls the swing back until the swing was abover her head. "W-wait- on second thought -!!," To late, it was to late, before he could finish his protest, he was pushed full force, it was fast as he reached the underside, and as quickly he arrived, the swing falled back to Rin in which she grabs, holds firmly and gives the swing more boost. Rin was clearly enjoying helping her new friend swing, but Len wasn't as enthusiastic as Rin.

"Ahhh!!,", Len said as he hung to the rope for dear life.

After what felt like an eternity (but it was actually just 3 minutes) Len was able to get off and collapse on the ground, missing the feeling of stillness and not being in constant motion on the swing. "Um- are you okay? Did I do it too much?" Rin said as she looked down at him, crouching down to look at his closed eyes, blissfully content in staying on the ground. "Yeah- just don't push me too much, Ok?" Len said, catching his breath until finally relaxing in the soft grass.

"Can I join you?" Rin asked with wide eyes. "In what?" Len asked. Rin pointed at the spot beside him. Len chuckled before nodding, closing his eyes, making a tired yet contented yawn. "Yes, yes, you can," he replied.

Rin's expression brightened before lying down next to him, yawning as well. "Thank you, for letting me be your friend," Rin said softly, her smile smaller but it felt like the happiest smile she ever made, Len turned his head to look at her, chuckling before looking back at the vast expanse of the blue sky, "Welcome,"

It was like yesterday, it felt like yesterday. I remembered how much Len screamed while I gave him the swinging of his life back then, the excitement I felt when Len became my friend. Now, I'm even more grateful for him staying my friend back then, even after giving him an unwanted, thrilling swinging session. I looked at my notes, "When will he arrive?" I muttered to myself as I slumped on my chair, looking at the entrance door of the classroom. I sighed, I shouldn't be in a hurry, I didn't yet know what to say. I sighed again, this time with a smile.

Despite the current situation between us, I had this feeling that I found ironic but also not at the same time, I was and still glad that I met Len, even if it ended up this way, it was great that I met Kagamine Len.
