The sun blazed in the azure sky, signaling the start of summer. For most students, it was a time of freedom and fun, but for Cid Kagenou, it was a time to slip into the shadows and further his quest to become the ultimate power in the background. Unfortunately, his plans were disrupted by none other than his older sister, Claire Kagenou.
"Cid, we're spending the summer together," Claire declared, her tone brooking no argument.
Cid looked up from his book, his usual indifferent expression barely masking his irritation. "I have plans, Claire. Important ones."
"Plans? What plans could be more important than spending time with your dear sister?" Claire's eyes narrowed, and a dangerous edge crept into her voice.
Cid suppressed a sigh. His plans, of course, involved training and managing Shadow Garden, the secret organization he led as Shadow. But he couldn't exactly tell Claire that.
"Just... things I need to do," he replied evasively.
Claire's demeanor shifted in an instant. She grabbed Cid by the collar, her face inches from his. "You're not getting out of this, little brother. We're going to have fun, whether you like it or not."
The rest of the day was a blur of forced activities. Claire dragged him to the park, made him help her bake cookies, and insisted they watch cheesy romantic comedies. Cid tried to protest, but each time, Claire's grip on him tightened, and her smile grew more menacing.
"Isn't this fun, Cid?" Claire asked sweetly as they sat in the living room, a rom-com playing on the TV.
"Yeah, loads," Cid muttered, slumping deeper into the couch.
As the days went on, Claire's punishments for his reluctance grew more creative. One morning, she barged into his room with a bag of costumes.
"We're going to play dress-up," she announced cheerfully.
"What? No way," Cid protested, backing away.
But Claire was relentless. After a brief struggle, Cid found himself in a ridiculous prince costume, complete with a frilly shirt and tights. Claire, dressed as a princess, beamed at him.
"You look adorable," she cooed.
Cid groaned. "This is humiliating."
"Then stop complaining and enjoy yourself," Claire retorted, smacking him lightly on the head with a toy scepter.
Despite his misery, Cid had to admit that Claire was having the time of her life. Her laughter rang through the house, and her eyes sparkled with genuine happiness. It was a rare sight, and Cid couldn't bring himself to spoil it.
However, his patience had limits. One afternoon, after a particularly exhausting day of forced fun, Cid retreated to his room and muttered under his breath, "She's so stubborn and annoying."
Unbeknownst to him, Claire was just outside the door. Her innocent façade barely concealed the fury in her eyes as she stormed into his room.
"What did you just say?" she demanded, her voice low and dangerous.
Cid froze, his eyes widening in horror. "Nothing! I didn't say anything!"
"Liar!" Claire lunged at him, tackling him onto the bed. "Repeat what you said about me!"
Cid yelped as Claire's hands found their mark, tickling him mercilessly. "Stop! Stop! I didn't mean it!"
"Say it!" Claire insisted, her fingers relentless.
"I-I said you're stubborn and annoying!" Cid gasped between bouts of laughter and struggling.
Claire paused, her eyes boring into his. Then, to Cid's surprise, she smiled. "Good. At least you're honest."
Cid lay there, panting and bewildered. "You're... not mad?"
"Oh, I'm furious," Claire replied, her smile turning wicked. "But I appreciate your honesty. Now, let's go. We have more fun to have."
Cid sighed, resigned to his fate. His summer as a backup character in his sister's world of forced fun was far from over. Yet, as he followed Claire out of the room, he couldn't help but feel a strange sense of relief. Claire's determination and spirit were exhausting, but they were also a reminder of the bond they shared.
As the summer days stretched on, Cid found himself begrudgingly enjoying the moments with Claire. Her stubbornness was a force to be reckoned with, but so was her unwavering love for her little brother. And in the end, that was something even the mighty Shadow couldn't resist.
The weeks passed, each day filled with new activities and adventures. Cid gradually stopped resisting and began to find small joys in the forced outings. Whether it was playing board games, going on picnics, or even participating in Claire's elaborate roleplaying scenarios, he realized that these moments were precious in their own way.
One evening, as they sat on the porch watching the sunset, Claire turned to him with a soft smile. "Thanks for spending the summer with me, Cid."
Cid shrugged, trying to hide his own smile. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't make it a habit."
Claire laughed, a sound that warmed Cid's heart. "We'll see about that."
Cid Kagenou, known as Shadow to his loyal followers in Shadow Garden, entered the hidden hideout with a mix of relief and exhaustion. The summer with his sister, Claire, had been a whirlwind of forced fun and relentless affection. Now, back in his true element, he hoped to regain some semblance of control and focus.
"Lord Shadow," Alpha greeted him, her voice respectful and calm. "How was y-"
Before Alpha could finish, a blur of motion darted towards Shadow. Delta, the beastly canine girl, lunged at him with boundless energy, her tail wagging furiously. She wrapped her arms around him, her chest pressing against his face.
"Boss man, you're finally back! Delta was so bored without you!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy.
Shadow's voice was muffled by Delta's enthusiastic embrace. "Delta..." he managed to mumble, trying to free himself.
Alpha's tone grew serious, her eyes narrowing. "Delta, release Lord Shadow."
Delta's ears drooped, and she immediately let go, stepping back and cowering under Alpha's sharp gaze. "Ekk! Don't be mad, Lady Alpha! Delta will be good."
Zeta, the neko beastly girl, sighed and shook her head at her rival's behavior. "Typical mutt, always causing trouble," she mocked, her tone laced with amusement.
Delta's eyes flared with anger, and she growled at Zeta. "Shut up, She-cat!"
"See what you did, you dumb mutt. You made Lord Shadow annoyed," Zeta mocked with a sigh.
"Quit calling Delta a dumb mutt, you stupid She-cat!" Delta growled, baring her fangs.
Alpha sighed, shaking her head. These two will never change, she thought.
"That's enough, both of you," Shadow said, finally free from Delta's grasp. He straightened his cloak, his authoritative presence restoring order. "We have important matters to discuss."
The two beastly girls glared at each other but fell silent, their loyalty to Shadow overriding their rivalry. Alpha stepped forward, her composure unshaken.
"Lord Shadow, we have gathered all the necessary information for our next mission," Alpha reported. "Our operatives have been successful in infiltrating the enemy's stronghold."
"Excellent," Shadow replied, his mind already shifting into strategy mode. "We'll discuss the details in the briefing room. Everyone, follow me."
Delta and Zeta exchanged one final glare with each other before following their master.
Alpha sighed. "Those two are something else..."
