Episode 8- Cerulean City: Part Three- Practice Makes Perfect

On a broadcast show, Lilian Meridian is hosting a television show about the upcoming Pokemon Contest.

"We are 24 hours away from the Cerulean City Pokemon Contest. Multiple big name coordinators are expected to participate in this contest. One of those big names is joining me right now is Serena from Vaniville Town in Kalos. How are doing, Serena?"

"I'm doing fine. I must admit, I'm a little nervous about participating in my first Kanto Pokemon Contest, but I'm hopeful that I will come out on top as the winner."

"That's great to hear. Why did you decide to go to Kanto?"

"I want to become Top Coordinator here in Kanto. I came so close to becoming Kalos Queen when I was a Pokemon Performer. I also came so close to becoming Hoenn Top Coordinator. I think now, though, I have what it takes to become Kanto Top Coordinator."

"That's awesome. So one of the big names that is also going to be participating in this Contest is Drew. Big name in Hoenn and Kanto his first time around. Going up against a veteran, do you think that shakes you in any way?"

"Not at all. To be honest, I like a little bit of a challenge in Pokemon Contests. If I'm going up against veterans, I'll enjoy it even more. I know Drew's work in Pokemon Contests very well, and I hope I get to go up against him."

"I hope you have fun in the Pokemon Contest tomorrow. Well ladies and gentleman, we'll be back with experts about strategy to win this Contest."

The broadcast goes to commercial.

"Thank you guys. Lilian, I'll see you tomorrow at the Contest."

"See you later, Serena."

Serena walks down a hallway, where Ash and Brock are waiting.

"So, how nervous were you at the TV interview, Serena?"

"Not really. I'm used to the media attention at this point, Ash. Only thing I'm focused now is getting out of these super formal clothes. It's a bit ridiculous."

"They wanted you to look your best, but I don't blame you."

"Finally, I can actually put the finishing touches on my performance."

A few minutes later, Serena returns with her normal clothes on, and gets ready to finish her preparations. Ash, overhearing that Drew will be in this contest, goes to search for him for a little chat.

"Serena, I'll be back."

"Where are you going?"

"Going to find an old friend, Drew."

"Oh, okay, see you in a bit. Love you."

"Love you, too."

"Brock, can you help me out?"

"What do you need?"

"Remember when Goodra used Ice Beam on the Rain Dance in the battle Ash had yesterday?"

"Yeah, I do. What about it?"

"Well, I want to do a variation of that. Use a move onto itself."

"That will look very nice, and if you can make it work with more moves, I think you're set."

"Great. Thanks, Brock!"

Meanwhile, with Ash.

"Oh, where is he? Oh, I see him, let's sneak up on him."

"Pika!"

With Drew and Roserade practicing their Contest moves.

"Okay, Roserade, you should probably do something like this."

"Rose! Rose?"

"What's wrong?"

"Rose, Rose."

"Saying something is in the bushes."

"Rose!"

"Alright. Be right back."

In the bushes.

"Oh perfect, he's coming over here. Pikachu, Thunderbolt, but very lightly."

"Pika…chuuu."

"Ah, what the hell."

"DId you enjoy your little shocking surprise?"

"Nice to see you again, Ash."

"How's it been?"

"Besides that, it's been fine. Been doing Contests throughout regions, so can't complain. Why are you here?"

"Cheering on a friend."

"Who is it, Serena?"

"How do you know?"

"Rumor has been going around about the world champion and a former Pokemon Performer aretogether. Considering two plus two equals four…"

"Fair enough, but don't tell anyone, okay? The media if they confirm it."

"I won't. Don't worry. Anyway, let's go find Serena."

Back to Serena with Brock watching on.

"Delphox, use Hidden Power!"

Delphox uses Hidden Power up to the sky.

"Use Psychic to hold the Hidden Power, then smash them!"

Delphox uses Psychic to hold the Hidden Power in the air, then smashes them, creating a shower of purple and pink sparkles.

"Use Mystical Fire!"

Delphox uses Mystical Fire, which make the purple and pink sparkles to swirl around the fiery vortex, almost like a warm tornado.

"Use Flamethrower through the vortex."

When Flamethrower is used through the vortex, it disperse all the swirling fire, with the sparkles now falling down on Delphox and Serena.

"Awesome job, Serena."

"Thanks, Brock!"

"Yeah, that looked really pretty."

"Huh? Oh, hi Drew."

"Hello, Serena. Been a bit."

"It has. Last time we ran into each other was the Sinnoh Grand Festival, wasn't it?"

"Sure was. Trying the Kanto ones to see if you can win the Grand Festival this time around?"

"That's the goal."

"Nice. Oh, no, the hell do you want?" (pointing to Brock).

"Same to you."

They get in each others face like they're pissed at each other, but they're not.

"How's it been, dude?"

"I'm breathing. 28 years old, so I'm getting old."

"28 is not old."

"Just wait."

Serena and Ash look at each other, then look back at Brock and Drew, still talking nonsense.

"Should we leave those two for a few, so they can catch up."

"Eh, why not. Brock, we'll be back."

"Okay, have fun!"

"Ash, have you participated in Contests before?"

"A couple, but it's not really my forte."

"Fair enough. Gym battles are obviously your thing."

"True. Ran into Palermo lately?"

"Haven't seen her in a while. I think she's not involved in Showcases or Contests anymore, just relaxing at home."

"Alright."

Ash watches Serena practice her Contests moves for a little bit, and after a while, Drew and Brock join them.

Later that night.

"The opening ceremony for all of the Kanto Contests starts now! My name is Lilian Meridian, and I welcome you to the Cerulean City Pokemon Contests. Let me introduce to you to your judges for tomorrow's contest. First, Mr. Contesta, chief of the Pokemon Activities Committee!"

"Welcome, one and all. I hope you enjoy the Contests."

"Next, Mr. Sukizo, President of the Pokemon Fan Club!"

"Absolutely remarkable!"

"Last but not least, Cerulean City's own Nurse Joy."

"Thanks, Lilian!"

"Hey guys!"

"Ah, Misty and Tracey, where were you, today?"

"Had a lot of gym battles to do. Life of a gym leader."

"Watching the Contest today and tomorrow?"

"Hell yeah. Gym's closed for today and tomorrow, Serena. Are you ready?"

"I sure am!"

"You'll do great!"

"I know, Ash. Thanks!"

"The Contest starts at noon tomorrow! Be there and enjoy the fun!"
